Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements

I doubt if this outfit even owns a paint brush. They sub -contracted everything at my house. Their communication with their subs is horrible. I don't think that Somerset even set out a company representative to inspect the work. While I dealt very little with the subs, my wife said one of them was very rude.. They never did complete the wood restoration nor did they replace the light fixtures they removed for painting. Don't let them fool you about payment. They started sending invoices long before the work was complete. In fact it is still not complete since the light fixtures and wood repair are unfinished. But I got tired of them bugging me for payment and their poor coomunication.. Part of the job cost was materials. They ordered a lot excess materials for which I had to pay. I have used many contractors in the past and I would advise you look elsewhere since these guys are no better than anyone else out there but are more costly. I am sorry I relied on Angies List for this selection of a contractor.

When we called Somerset we needed to repaint the interior of our house - it required a great deal of repair work to the walls, moulding, and trim in almost every room combined with a very tight timeline. Rick was right on time for our first appointment, he wasn’t phased by any part of the challenges, and calmly explained the level of repairs, prep, and craftsmanship I expected was their standard. After we reviewed the pricing, he promptly sent over a proposal in writing with all the details of their standards itemized and guaranteed. On day one I met the team foremen Nick and Milos - they’ll attest that I was very apprehensive - it seemed too good to be true. All my tension had faded by mid-day from the amount of work they had already put forth, and things they had noticed on their own vs what I had pointed out during the first meeting. The amount of care, professionalism, and attention to detail made it clear they were true experts treating this as if it were their own home. Further, the extra effort they put in to communicate with me while I was at work, and keep the project on track to completion in time despite the inevitable surprises was above and beyond. Everyone was on time every day, they showed exceptional courtesy to our home and neighborhood, and they delivered a truly perfect job. This is a group of consummate professionals. I would recommend them to anyone, and will definitely hire them again. The level of integrity and professionalism they bring is exceedingly rare.

Great! Tim arrived on time and immediately began assessing our needs and expectations. He worked painstakingly, long hours repairing our ceilings, walls and window sills before painting our guest room, office, living room, dining room and kitchen. After restoring our home to its “like-new” condition, Tim cleaned up all surfaces and reviewed the entire job with us looking for any “flaws” that might be found. It was obvious that Tim’s goal was to assure that we were completely satisfied with his work, and he put in extra time and effort to make sure we were happy with the end product. We are thrilled with the results and have already recommended Somerset Painters to our friends! Would definitely use them again.

I had high hopes for Somerset painting. Their contract implies a detail oriented company who believes that preparation is key, and to that end, promise preparation and "hand sanding all woodwork being painted...all glossy surfaces must be scuffed to insure a bond...," "removing hardware including striker plates, door handles, and electrical covers," "drop ceiling fixtures," "repair severe dings in painted doors, trim and base using Bondo," "caulk all your seams as necessary." The quotes are directly from the contract we agreed to. This was a job that had two different crews assigned; and both crews made the same mistakes. Somerset painting relies on the use of subcontractors. There was no QA person actually overseeing the job, and that is were things went very wrong. My sense was that both sets of subcontractors were more interested in getting the job done quickly rather than thoroughly. The lack of "eyes on the job" means the painters do want they want, how they want, without oversight. Somerset painting relies on return visits for "touch ups" rather than getting it right the first time. I appreciate the owner inspecting and apologizing for the work. But, there is a disconnect between the "management" and the actual painters to the point that the front office offered to send back out the team of painters responsible for most of my grief to fix errors. So, what actually happened...If you walked into my house you would say it looked great; nice neutral color palate, freshly painted trim. But, the devil is in the details. It took their QA guy, three or four visits, and additional days of work to re-sand, repaint, and re-caulk. My previously painted white alkyl trim was covered with white latex, without any prep despite the fact that I asked for oil based trim paint. There are areas I can scrape the latex off with my finger nail. I basically got a white wash job. I am, two months after the completion of the job, finding door and window casings not completely painted, drips on walls and six panel doors. I have spent that last two months removing, cleaning, and replacing painted hinges, door knobs and striker plates. I haven't even started my floors yet. During the job, either my husband or I were present. I did, in real time, ask for remedial action from the painters if something was not done right. But, I was put in the uncomfortable position of trying to manage their work; around my going to and coming from my own work. Lastly, the most obvious faux pas: Paint and energy drink spills that required carpet replacement. Paint cans left on carpeting, open, without so much as a drop cloth underneath at the end of the day. A toilet plugged up. Bathroom sinks used for paint brush rinse out. Paint spots on the decking going into and out of my house; paint spilled in the garage where empty cans of paint were placed.

They did a great job, Now only was the job good but our two painters, Stephanie and Mike were professional, helpful, and and polite, They cleaned so the rooom actually was cleaner than when they came.

We are very pleased with the entire painting process. Rachel did a great job ensuring everything was set up to start and complete the project. Austin and George did fantastic work. They were punctual, professional and very courteous. They worked quickly yet neatly and quickly took care of any small issues we found. I would use them again without hesitation.

We've used Somerset Painting for several jobs on our house. We've been pleased with the quality of their work, as well as how quickly they're able to complete the work and completing it on time. Rachel is always very quick to ensure that we're satisfied with the work. We will continue to use Somerset in the future.

Job went well. There was a little concern about starting when they said they would, but they were there the day we agreed to start on. Price was higher than we expected, but that was because we didn't notice "cost of materials" on the quote. That's on us. But therefore, the cost was higher than what we were expecting. We'll definitely have them out to quote other jobs we're planning on doing.

Somerset Painting was very professional from the beginning, explaining the process. They were backedup, but let us know where we were on their schedule, and kept us informed as to when they would get to our house. The crew was professional, explaining all the options and processes. I would hire again

Completed flooring looks great. Did a nice job, even around tight spots around the furnace and laundry sink. Matt worked hard and was polite and punctual. Recommended "heavy flake", which, just as he said, did help to cover up spots in the concrete floor that were in poor shape. In addition to epoxy flooring, also had a couple small painting jobs, all which turned out really nice.

Extremely well. Everyone was very professional, work was performed in a timely method. The building looks great. We would use them again and they come highly recommended.

Rick, the owner, was great to work with. Gave me a bid and stuck with it. He worked with my schedule, and the man who did the vinyl siding did a GREAT job! The crew that did the gutters was quick and friendly. I definitely would hire again. Quality work.

Took awhile to get scheduled, but the weather this spring was wet. Once started, their crew worked hard and were very considerate. Very professional and good painters. They made very good suggestions. Some minor rework issues, but they rectified them when pointed out. On the expensive side, but worth it if you are looking for a high quality workmanship.

I was very pleased with the results. The guys paid attention to detail and did a phenomenal job at replacing the wood in making sure all the gaps were chaulk appropriately. They also did a great job at painting. They worked into the night to get the job done. I would highly recommend Somerset and use them again.

Rick and his team are THE BEST in the business. I've hired Somerset twice and each time has exceeded my expectations. Rick cares about his customers and works hard to meet their needs whether it's timing, budget - or in my case, both! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Somerset for anyone needing interior or exterior paint. They are fast, friendly and the quality is unbeatable.

We are very pleased with the end result. Rick worked with us in the beginning to chose our materials and made some very good suggestions in terms of what would work with the style and age of our house. Both the siding half of the project and the painting half of the project were done with meticulous care and precision. The siding is beautiful, and was expertly installed. The painting crew was careful and went out of their way to do everything we asked. Rick and crew worked with us to meet a time deadline that we had, and as with all outdoor construction projects there were delays due to weather. But they met our deadline and we are very pleased with the final look of the house.

Great. The painting crew were meticulous in what they did. We love the outcome; as well, the neighbors love it too. They took care of any and all issues which arose, promptly and fully. They cleaned up before leaving each day. We would hire this crew again!!

I just want to say how fun it was working with Rick, Naomi and Courtney. Everyone was awesome! Our house looks so nice. A neighbor comment on how nice our house looks and that he never noticed the crew. The crew of James Matthews and James, were the right choice for our project and were so professional and attentive to my requests. They already knew what I wanted and worked great together. All our requests were happily fulfilled. All plants were covered and the yard was cleaned up every night when we came home. The detailed contract was well written. We also appreciated the review of paint colors on a picture of our house before we chose a color. This is an additional feature at Somerset that you don't find at a lot of painting companies. It really helps to see how the paint goes with the roof and brick work on your house. It's the only way to choose a house color! Thank you Naomi and Courtney for your hard work in this area. The people were good, but they’re still having to come back. I would say the quality was questionable. I think they ruined my air conditioner too, but I’m going to talk to them about that. Overall Rating of “C” - I hate to do this, but I liked the people. They’re coming back out, they’ve been responsive. It’s just that it’s been a real process, I would say. I would not recommend them.

Overall they did a good job, which is what you should expect at this price point. They were prompt and responsive to my concerns, and worked quickly in a well-coordinated way. There were communication problems, mainly with the sales staff in the course of clarifying expectations re: what was included in the price; but these were ultimately resolved to my satisfaction.

Really, really happy with the work done! Very responsive, courteous, and professional every step of the way. Work completed faster than I expected. Exceeded my expectations.
