I received estimates from 3 different insulation companies, but decided to use I & S because 3 separate sources said that they were very nice people. I am having a large renovation done to my home and the interior is gutted. My contractor coordinated the timing of his work to be ready for our scheduled insulation date. Mike did a very good job coordinating with us to have 2 crews ready for that day to complete the job. The 2 crews and 2 trucks arrived on the scheduled day, but they got a late start and did not even finish the walls that day. Mike was very attentive and arranged for 2 more men to come back, 2 days later, on a Sunday. I met with them in the morning and they assured me that they would be able to complete the job that day. The plumber was supposed to arrive on Monday and begin running the pipes through the floor for the new kitchen layout and new bathroom location, in addition to the new heating layout. I came home a few hours later to find the crew gone and very little work done. Mike was very attentive and arranged for a crew to come back on Tuesday. He said they had had trouble with the truck. This threw off the plumber, as well as the contractor who now could do no work on Monday, or Tuesday (no one is allowed in the building when spray foam is being applied). The crew came on Tuesday and "finished". I understand that the foam is not expected to be perfectly flat, but there was a significant deficit of thickness. There was supposed to be 6 inches in the rafters, and in some places we could still see the plywood. I called Mike and he sent a man over with cans of spray foam. All of the men were very polite and pleasant. When Mike heard back from the spray can worker, he called me and said that it seems they were a little light and he offered to go into the attic space and give me an inch and a half on top of the vaulted flat ceiling. I purchased some wooden shish kabob skewers at Target and marked them at 6 inches. I then climbed up on a ladder and stabbed them in to the foam. There were many bays lacking as much as 2 inches of spray foam. I called Mike to let him know that I would prefer to have the bays filled properly, and he sent another crew out. This crew was cleaning up when I went to inspect some new work on an outside wall and was flabbergasted to find that there wasn't even enough spray foam in some bays to cover an electrical box attached to the drywall. There was supposed to be 3 inches. I marked a dozen skewers at the 3 inch mark and stabbed them into the bays. Then I asked the sprayer to top them off. He finished and drove off before I could inspect his work. The very obvious bay that didn't even have the electrical outlet box covered was untouched. AND spray had gone through the small openings around a wall sconce electrical box and completely covered my computer and keyboard on the other side of the wall. I called Mike to let him know the bay was missed, and he said he would send a guy out with cans of foam in the morning. My contractor had to close up the wall, though, due to impending rain and so bought a number of cans at home depot and filled it himself. Overall, this was a very unsatisfying situation. If I had not inspected the work, drywall might have been hung over it and I never would have known that I was not getting what I was being charged for. I understand that this is a busy time of year and that perhaps experienced help is difficult to find. I do feel that Mike attempted to rectify the situations. But, really, it should have been completed on the first day, and done right the first time.
Description of Work: Application of closed cell spray foam to the exterior second floor walls from the inside, and half of the attic space rafters in a vaulted ceiling.
