Shawn Ellis of Home Property Services has been our ‘go to’ contractor for most of our home projects. We’ve worked with him for the last 7-8 years. He’s done large outdoor projects like: building a gravel path of several hundred feet down the side of our field, building a 20 ft. bridge over a small stream running through our property, bringing in stone to control erosion along the banks of the stream and building an attractive stone berm where the stream occasionally overflowed. Shawn’s also done indoor projects like dry wall repair & skim coating in our kitchen and dining room (we had removed wall paper that had been glued directly to the dry wall which caused damage to the wall). He’s done 3 beautiful tiling projects for us - an upstairs bathroom shower, a downstairs bathroom floor and a tile back splash in our kitchen. He’s installed lights and fans including a ceiling fan in our cathedral ceiling and done some indoor painting I was not able to do. He will be installing an on demand generator for us this fall. We trust Shawn. He is honest and does high quality professional work. He always presents us with options and quotes so we can make an informed decision. He has a great work ethic and is determined to complete projects to our satisfaction. He is also our property manager when we are out of town. I highly recommend him for your projects.

My wife and I have worked with Shawn Ellis and Home Property Services for many years. He has done numerous projects for us. This summer we hired him to replace the deck boards on our deck. The deck is quite large, covering 2½ sides of our house, over 800 sq. ft. What began as changing the deck boards from cedar decking to composite decking expanded into replacement of the entire deck. When Shawn began the project, we knew that the understructure of the deck was not ideal, but he thought he could work with what was there. After he removed the old deck boards it became clear that nothing about the understructure was up to code and that it could present ongoing problems if we didn’t do something about it. Eventually we asked Shawn if it wouldn’t be simpler and faster to just remove the entire understructure and start over. He agreed. Once the old deck was gone Shawn began the process of building the new deck. His work, as usual, was exceptional. What we didn’t realize was the number of problems he would encounter along the way: difficulty drilling holes for the tubes to pour the cement for the posts due to rocks, shortage of pressure-treated lumber due to COVID19, discovering trim boards on the house that were rotten and had to be replaced, discovering that the house itself is not square. Through it all Shawn kept his cool and his sense of humor and found workable solutions for us. He also came up with some unique and inspired solutions to problems: for water that runs from certain parts of our roof and makes the deck and ground underneath quite wet – Shawn had the idea of putting metal roofing under the deck boards and slanting it away from the house to draw the water out onto the lawn. It works like a charm! In addition to working with all the issues he has encountered Shawn’s workmanship is professional! He graded the area under the deck and installed stone, to eliminate with grass and weeds and to improve the appearance. For the part of the deck area holding our spa he created major supports. The understructure of the deck is completed and looks fabulous! He has sanded and predrilled each post for the cable rail system and they look beautiful! He has begun installing the composite decking and has had to figure out how best to deal with the fact that the house is not square and what that means for laying the decking. We can’t wait to see the completed deck. We are so impressed with his work and all the time and effort he put into the project. We expect we will spend many happy hours on our beautiful new deck! I can’t say enough positive things about Shawn’s work ethic and workmanship. It is very easy to work with him and he strives to complete any project to our liking. He does great work, takes care to work within our budget, and offers unique and good solutions to unexpected situations. He also keeps his work site quite clean. There is no debris lying about, and when he completes a job, he always makes sure everything is cleaned up before he leaves. I can’t recommend him highly enough!
