It went terribly. The owner promised his company was better than the others in the area because he uses 4-5 inches of topsoil, where his competitors use 2 inches. He talked up the seed that he uses, and that after installation in June of 2020, he would be back in the fall to weed and feed (which they did), and after all the trouble we had, said he would return in the spring of 2021 to fix it. That did not happen. What we got was 2 inches of topsoil,barely enough to cover some stumps we had ground, weeds, lots of weeds, more weeds than grass, then came the crabgrass which choked out any seed he put down. He did not come back this spring, so now our front yard is weeds, clover, some grass, crabgrass, and no grass growing where the three stumps were. And he tried to charge us for extra topsoil! I would never recommend Black Bear Landscaping.

I have used their services for a few years and feel their services are priced very high and quality of work is poor compared to other lawn services I have used in Portland area. I find Jack is not very customer centric. He is hard to get in touch with. His voicemail is often full and you mutually agree on a meeting date and time and he no shows. He does not even call to cancel. I would avoid this company based on my experience.

The project consisted of new landscaping and beds on both front and side yards. We worked directly with the owner Jack Oswald for the design and he was innovative, highly professional, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. The landscape staff were very competent, professional, and kind. The quality of all the work that had to be done, including the sprinkler system was exceptional. The completed project is stunning and just like I wanted. My husband and I highly recommend Black Bear Landscaping for your projects. You will enjoy working with them.

There was a lot of leaves in my yard and when I got home from work, they were all gone. My yard looks GREAT!!!!

This company did a great job at matching the pre-existing fence, clearing out the bushes etc. took a while to have the job completed but there was no rush for completion.

I called Black Bear for a quote for a whole list of major landscape projects at our camp. After talking on the phone and setting up a time to meet on a Saturday (which he said he doesn't often do), we were to meet at the property at 10:30 AM on August 15th...this was more than a week away from the initial contact I had with him. I didn't receive a confirmation call the days before Saturday, and I also didn't receive a call that he was on his way on Saturday...something that contractors often, but not always, do. He didn't show at 10:30. I had made a point to be at our summer property that weekend just to meet with him (our permanent residence is in RI). I waited for over an hour after 10:30, and he still didn't show up. I then called him. He answered the phone somewhat groggily, and I explained that we had an appointment and asked if he was still interested in the job. He said he would call me back in half an hour....he never called back. At that point, I was no longer interested in dealign with him, as he didn't seem capable of communicating or sticking with his schedule. Annoying to say the least!

Jack did not show up on agreed upon date and time. Very rude and unprofessional.

Jack, Steve, Dickie and John did a wonderful job. They had to remove the old, buckled asphalt walkway, prep the area and lay the new walk, approximately 7' x 11'. They were extremely professional, agreeable and easy to deal with and came up with ideas we hadn't thought of that makes the finished product all the better. We are extremely happy with the results.

Provided lawn mowing very good and as agreed with reasonable pricing. Once asked to perform snow plowing at short notice but price was very high that was my last conversation.

This is a wonderful company. They are always kind and courteous. I would highly recommend them to anyone and I will continue to use them whenever I need to. They are a very personable company, not the kind that take your money and run.

It took the crew (of 2) less than a week to install a beautiful patio. Very professional - understands the product and how to do the job! Very patient and accomodating. Cared very much about my satisfaction. Good advise. Looks absolutely beautiful! They were a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend their services!

We interviewed 3 hardscape companies for pricing on a 12 X 18 patio we wanted installed. While pricing was fairly comparable, Black Bear was the only one who worked with us to create a design that was both attractive and maximized the space. All the other companies just assumed a rectangular shape. The person (Steve) who was in charge of the site and his co-worker (Dickie) were perfectionists in what they did - creating a perfectly level, beautiful patio out of a sloped portion of the yard. When a better solution to a problem was suggested by Steve, Jack Oswald (the owner) worked with us to be sure we were both happy with the and quot;fixand quot; and felt satisfied we got our moneys worth. All in all a very good experience and I would recommend them to you!

Jack and his team were very professional and did a great job. We were pleased with their work and found them enjoyable and agreeable to work with.

Jack, Steve and Scott never missed a beat. Jack was right on time for our first appt. and everyone after that. He checked in with us on a regular basis to be sure things were going well throughout the project. Steve really knows stonework and designed a patio that fits perfectly with our space and environment.

He called me last night and warned me about the storm. They came out early this morning and made sure the it was taken care of. He also took care of my mom's driveway and cleaned it up well. Anytime I need him, he is always there.

We had a heavy rainstorm last night with over an inch of water, and my sump pump isn't even running anymore. The water is just flowing through perfectly and all the debris is gone. It's fantastic. I'm very pleased with what he did. The quality is fantastic.

He has been doing some fantastic work, and his estimates came in much lower than other quotes I did get! John has been great, and I really appreciate all the work that he has been doing for me. He also works on my neighbors property, and the work is just as nice for them. He has been in business for 30 years, and it shows!

I booked an appointment for Black Bear to give me a quote for sod installation and a flagstone walkway. I found them online and the man who called me seemed very professional and said it's always important to him to call customers back. I left work on the afternoon of my appointment to meet them at my home for 2pm. I arrived at 1:30 but by 2:15pm no one had arrived. I called them and the man who answered the phone, I'm assuming the owner said they should be down there. I told him I hadn't seen anyone yet. He said "okay, thanks" and hung up. I waited until 2:30pm and called back. He did not answer. I tried several more times but he never picked up the phone. I wasted my afternoon and time from work for this rude, unprofessional incident.
