The total is about $1,200. They do the job and do it well. I have not had any issues with them or getting in contact with folks there. They did not give me proper instructions for service I got so after they did the work on my lawn they did not tell me, like, I was supposed to water it in a certain way or other things. They did not give me those types of instructions so I did not know what to do afterwards. I am never here when they are here for the treatment.
I was approached by a Scott?s employee soliciting in the neighborhood. I signed up for a plan for 5 applications of product through the Season (2013). They came out and started the applications. The weeds died off, and the lawn looked great, green and thick. I talked to them about seeding because I had some large bare spots, one in the front yard. They said they could not seed in the Spring due to the pre-emergent they put down. I then scheduled seeding; that they said would be done in early September. I called in August, to make sure, and they came about September 7th. When I got home from work, I looked at the seeding and was not happy. There were areas where the seed was so thick that you could not see dirt. I am talking about 6-8 sq. ft. There were other areas where there was no seed, and other areas that were sparse. I called and was told I had to wait at least two weeks to see how the seed sprouted. I was taking to the Manager. I told him that there were spots, some rather large, that had no seed and too much in other areas. He still said I had to wait, because I could not see the seed. It turned into an argument, with him defending the lousy seeding and me trying to get him to realize that grass is not going to grow where there is no seed. So, I waited the two weeks, and no one showed up. I called again and they sent out someone again. I had to be the same person, because they again dumped piles of seed in some areas, and none in others. This was after I specifically told them there was no seed near my A/C unit, and area about 6x15 feet. Again, no seed in that big bare area. Also, along my sidewalk and driveway there were spots where the grass came up and others where it was bare. I told him I wanted total coverage and he made excuses why it wasn?t done. I told him I wanted this fixed and he said he would come out himself. This was the Manager, Mike. I said to call so I could be there and go over the lawn with him. He did not call, and came out at 8 AM, dumped seed and took off. AGAIN, not total coverage, and bare spots along the driveway and sidewalk. The large bare spot near my A/C had seed, but by now, mid to late October, the seed was not going to take on bare dirt. I called again and complained that he came and left without talking to me. I got a ?I knocked? but no apology for not calling. I said I still wasn?t happy, and we argued again. I said I wanted to cancel my account, and he made no attempt to make thing right, except I had a balance and they just zeroed it out. It was about $180. He acted like I was supposed to be satisfied with this. I told him I should not have to pay for seeding when it wasn?t done right, so I didn?t consider that refund anything except not paying for seeding, nothing more. In January 2014 I got a call from a manager above Mike. He wanted to get me to sign up for 2014, and that they would fix things. I said for them to come out, seed and get the lawn right, and I would consider it. He said no, I had to sign up, and pay and they would start the service for 2014. I said that was not acceptable. He gave me an Oh well, and that was it.
If you think this is just me, look up Scotts on the BBB and complaintboard.com sites and see. I wish I had gone there first.
I want to point out that I went to a Home Improvement store, bought over 20 bags of humus/manure and spread it on my front and side lawns in anticipation of the seeding. I watered like they asked. I ended up spending about $600 between service, water, and manure, and ended up with a lawn I would rate at about a 6-7. My backyard, that wasn?t in the contract, was so green and thick that the one service guy commented on it. I said to the managers that I expected my front and sides to look better than the back, considering they were experts. I got no comment on that. Also, I have used Scott?s products when I did my own lawn service, and I think their products are excellent. Just don?t use the service.
