Description of Work: Chuck showed up on time (early actually) to perform a repair to my bathroom ceiling from a neighbor's leaky shower. While he was waiting for the job to dry, he was able to take care of some other little projects around the house. Fantastic job! I'll definitely use them again.

Description of Work: Fix siding on side of house that had started to lift away from bldg. Needed to be snapped back in place and in some places afixed with a screw/nail. This was on the second story of the house, on an incline and required a 20-30ft ladder, Also had gutters cleaned.

Description of Work: Installed a water shield over exterior door under deck and replaced wood trim on shed.

Description of Work: I had them do some drywall repair in a few rooms, as well as some cabinet hinges.

Description of Work: The contractor performed work, but I was expecting somewhat more work to be done in the 2 hours spent. Had a kitchen light changed and partial sheet rock repaired around another light fixture. Wanted to have the other fixture completed but was unable to afford in the amount of time it took with the one fixture. Only one was completed. It's pretty hard to determine what they'll run into when making changes. So far, it has cost me more in changing out fixtures than I anticipated. Prior to them showing up, the one fixture that needed sheet rock repair around it had already been preped to change out when the prior electrician saw that it needed sheet rock repair, in order, for the new fixture to fit correctly. In addition, I had two fans replaced and installed and a light fixture repaired in the laundry room by the electric company. The cost was $175. But he had a second person to assist him, so that made a differnce with efficiency.

Description of Work: Measured and removed damaged gable vent, purchased new vent, installed and caulked vent.

Description of Work: Found Handyman Matters of Columbia on-line via Angie's List. Service was to install crown molding on top of kitchen cabinets. Job was completed in a resonable time, much to my satisfaction. It was excellent.

Description of Work: We live in an old house and had a few problems with weatherproofing porch doors, repairing both a bathroom door and double doors to a porch that were no longer closing snugly, and our shelf under the kitchen sink was rotting and needed to be replaced.

Description of Work: I used Handyman Matters Of Columbia to put together a television stand and fix a toilet that was not working. He changed an electrical plug and hung something up for me.

Description of Work: Handyman Matters performed caulking around our home windows and some flashing around a bay window. The overall cost was approximately $1,000 for 12 hours of work. We supplied the caulk materials. Dealing with the company to schedule a time to perform the work went smoothely. The office manager Sharon was pleasant with which to deal. Sad to say that someone being pleasant and professional nowadays seems an exception rather than a rule. I note this aspect because it seems to be rare and she was nice to deal with compared to other Handyman services I called. I first asked for a person to come and provide an estimate for the work. The gentleman who came provided an estimate of 10 hours to do the work. Unfortunately in the week between when he provided an estimate, I got other estimates to compare and then called back, he was no longer with the company. I was told that the reason was that he left was mutually agreed - apparently he was soliciting the company's customers. Certainly I understand why the company would not want that. I subsequently was told that Handyman Matters would honor the quote and send someone else to perform the work. It was challenging getting the work scheduled due to the weather. A pair of individuals came out one day but could only perform about 75% of the work due to high winds and lack of a long enough ladder. I scheduled a follow up visit for the following week. The other gentlemen arrived a bit late after a call to the office. They completed the work. All of the people with whom I dealt were nice and professional. I would summarize the experience as a B+ with the following overall pros/cons Pros: -------- 1. Pleasant people with which to deal, including the office and on site workers, 2. Workers were courteous and professional. 3. It appears the work done was of reasonable quality but it is hard to tell in some areas that are up high - the assumption being that the work done is reasonable - too soon to tell if there are really any issues. 4. Price per hour seemed competitive with other companies with perhaps a slight discount based upon hourly rate and an Angie's List coupon. Cons: -------- 1. The original person who performed the estimate was let go in a short time and was not the one who performed the work. It turned out to not impact the work but I was a bit tentative in the beginning with this background setting the tone. 2. The work had to be scheduled over multiple days. Part of this was due to the weather but part was due because the original set of handymen were not prepared with a long enough ladder. This should have been known based upon the initial inspection. 3. The second set of people were a bit late (approximately 1 hour) and required a call to the main office. 4. The overall estimate of time was 10 hours and the actual time took about 12. This was a variance of about 20% and negated the coupon discount I had. Being a project manager this variance seems at the upper boundary of acceptable variance. I understand the reasons behind the variance but I feel a slight ding is warranted. I would rank the overall experience as a B+ with the slight aforementioned dings. There were enough items to note to not quite give the company an A rating. However, the experience was pleasant enough that I would both recommend the company and consider using them again for other projects. The opportunity might come soon. I am currently comparison shopping some follow up drywall work we wish to have performed.

Description of Work: Installed a new microwave in place of a previously installed one. The job required the removal of a row of mosaic back-splash due to the size of the new microwave.

Description of Work: Install under deck water drainage and water seal a sliding glass door.

Description of Work: After the major storms/hurricane/etc. I noticed water stains in the ceiling on the third floor of my townhouse. I contacted Handyman Matters and asked them to send someone to check things out. Since this happened right after the storms, the person was not able to make on the first day we had scheduled (I'm sure they were swamped) so we re-scheduled. They showed up on time the second time and did a very good job. The person that came went up to my attic to check things out and also went up to the roof. They discovered that the previous owner of my house had a satellite dish and they removed it without patching things up. They also also discovered some broken seals around the exhaust pipes up on the roof. They put a temporary seal on the exhaust pipes and they put up a tarp in the damaged area.

Description of Work: We needed our flat screen TV mounted on the wall with cables behind the wall. Chuck did a wonderful job! He even cleaned up after the work was completed. Very good company, will definitely be calling them again for the next project.

Description of Work: Lots of odds and ends. Laying laminate flooring, caulking bathrooms, repairing dishwasher panel and then re-caulking the countertop. Repairing stair railing and replacing shoe molding.

Description of Work: Replaced a ceiling fan in my dining room with a chandelier and a medallion, and replaced a light fixture in my kitchen ceiling with a new one. My goal was to have dimmers installed at both locations as well, using CFL dimmable bulbs and dimmers that specifically were made for CFLs. Energy saving is very important to me.
