Ace Handyman Services of Central Maryland

This is the 4th time we have used this service provider. As in the past, they were punctual and professional. Work was competed timely with no mess. Work quality was excellent.

I think Josh did a decent job overall. He was very personable and took time to explain the issues he encountered while working. It was a relief knowing that the wood structure downstairs was sound and we did not have any termite issues. He taped, spackled, and sanded the walls and did a very nice job closing up the downstairs. He asked to borrow a portable electric heater and fan to expedite the drying of the spackle (mud). One complaint is his disregard for protecting the area from the dust and debris from the drywall sanding. I placed a drop cloth to cover the exercise equipment and the television mounted on the wall from the drywall dust. He also requested to borrow a chair to prop up the electric heater that I gave him to dry the "mud" higher on the wall. After he left, I went downstairs and discovered that he apparently left the carpet and the remainder of the room uncovered, and kept the heater and fan that I supplied running. The interiors of both items are covered with drywall dust. The electric heater was brand new and the tower fan was (1) year old. The chair that he borrowed was part of a $5000 Amish made dining room set. It was also uncovered and layered in drywall dust. I accept blame for the chair, as I should have went to the shed and retrieved a lawn chair instead of giving him permission to use the more expensive chair. I assumed that he would have covered the chair. I spoke briefly with Josh while he was applying the joint compound and he twice dropped big globs of compound on the carpet and scooped it up with the drywall knife. Josh arrived on time the first day, the second day he said that he would return by 8:30 am, but left a voicemail advising that Handyman Matters had mistakenly scheduled him for an earlier appointment and that he would not be there until 1:30 pm. I was surprised when he showed up around 11:30 and told me that the first job went quicker than expected. On day (3) he said he would be at the home at 8:00 am. He called around 9:00 to say he was running late and arrived around 10:00am. As I mentioned, Josh was very personable and took the time to explain each step. Although the leak was not repaired, or the wall upstairs finished, the work was stopped at my request. I would encourage Josh to focus on protecting his customer's property (as the only items covered by drop cloths were done by me), arriving in a timely manner, and cleaning up the area thoroughly when done. My wife and I will be downstairs hoping to clean the fan, heater, dining room chair, and the rest of the room today. Since Josh cut back the drywall and placed the studs inside the wall upstairs I will ask him to return and finish the job after the roof leak is addressed. However, this time I will insist that he protect the work area. With my materials, and their labor cost, I have paid about $932.00 to date. I suspect that the final visit will put me somewhere in the $1200.00 range. Like most Handymen, Josh seems to be a good generalist, for complicated jobs or larger projects I would use professionals who were trained in that specific area of expertise. Besides the cleaning issues the experience with Handyman Matters was a positive one and I would use them again for straightforward, less involved projects. UPDATE Josh returned today (11/1/12) and placed the final stud, sealed and finished the drywall, and replaced a small section of damaged baseboard. He acknowledged that some of the replacement studs were not installed flush with the existing ones, so he had to use a bit more mud to feather in the uneven drywall. Once again he did a nice job finishing the drywall. The baseboard is slightly bowed outward and a bit higher than the existing base due to the misaligned studs. The issues are strictly cosmetic and I may plane down and recaulk the baseboard to minimize the mismatch. He made a special trip late in the day to address the issue which is greatly appreciated. Handyman Matters is a franchised business and they charge a flat rate of $88.00 per hour (you supply the materials). There are other "A" rated Handyman companies on Angie's List that charge $77.00 per hour. If you do not have an emergency, or can delay service, I would recommend waiting for a Deal on Angie's List. The final cost was $1321.43 ($1221.43 for labor) and about $100 in materials I either purchased or had at home. Once again, if you are looking for basic repairs they seem to be fine. I would not hire the company for larger projects such as a kitchen or bathroom install as the attention to detail and quality of work is lacking for projects of that size. Carpet Installer had to reinforce flooring area that was not properly done by Josh. Price much to high for poor quality of work. UPDATE (5-26-13) Had someone come out for an estimate yesterday to install a new downspout and address some other gutter issues. He said the backer foam rods and caulk was not "even close" to a correct way of addressing the leak issue. He also indicated that the reason the studs Josh installed were bowing out is because the damaged particle board was never removed and he placed the studs directly over the old area that had moisture damage rather than removing the particle board. AVOID this company! I wasted over $1300.00 for inferior work that will have to be fixed properly.

Hired 10/25/11 - 2 hours of handyman word for $120. Had shed that was built poorly and needed roof repairs. Initially came out in November I think. Handyman came out took pictures, inspected shed said he would need to contact his company to get some suggestions on repairs and that he'd be back later that day w/ supplies. He never came back. Company said he would call us - he never did. They were going to send another guy out but I cancelled the appt. Very frustrated. Was not confident at that point that they could even help me. Rec'd a call last December from Sharon to contact them but I did not. My roof is still leaking. Coupon has now expired and I've lost my $120

My big deal expired, which I let lapse due to some circumstances that I had to address first, and I called them to see if they would honor it and they declined. I feel that the company did not have the interest of the member in mind. I don't feel it was good customer service.

I had a great experience. Rosemarie was very helpful and accommodating with my schedule and my tenants' schedules. Josh called when he got to the house and gave an honest assessment of the cost and damages. He was quick, affordable and my tenants are happy. I have not yet had the opportunity to see it yet but I trust that it looks fine! Overall a great experience and I will be using them again.

Work was accomplished in several visits due to the grout and tile work. Serviceman was very helpful and did a great job. He was on time and I would definitely use him again.

i took advantage of the 1/2 day flat rate coupon. i was pleasantly surprised and amazed at the skills the worker had. He was very knowledgeable, fast, professional and a good conversationalist. He called the night before, and on the following day, when he knew he was going to be late, he called well ahead of the expected time and gave me an estimated time of arrival. He had all of the correct tools and finished about 1/2 hour early, so he helped me plant a tree i had purchased. After having a bad experience with another company, Handy Matters outshone them 110%.

The young man was very prompt, professional, and did a great job. No problems at all. Will definitely hire n the future.

I found Handyman Matters on Angie's List and called to set up an estimate. They were able to give a description over the phone based on a photo of the work that would need to be done as well as detailed instructions on what supplies I would need to purchase from Home Depot. I purchased the materials, and the handyman showed up precisely on time on the scheduled day. The work was done very quickly and very well, and Josh (the handyman) was very friendly and professional. I would definitely use Handyman Matters again for future jobs.

I called and scheduled a handyman visit through their receptionist. The handyman called me the day prior to the scheduled start date and I asked him if I could reschedule for the following day. He was very nice and said it was no problem and he would be out Friday instead of Thursday. Friday towards the end of the day there was still no handyman and no one had called so I called the main number. They had no record of the appointment being changed and apparently the handyman was not suppose to do his own scheduling so I had no recourse and would have to reschedule. Unfortunatly I had taken the day off of work and could not reschedule within the coming weeks. Not only did I miss a day of work but my projects around the house are still not done. Next time I will try a different company.

When I called the company, the man who answered explained the pricing system and set up an appointment for me within a few days of my call. Rich was at my house promptly and performed the work. He reattached a handrail beside the steps leading to my basement. It was tight and secure when he finished. He also checked the rail leading to the upstairs and found a couple of missing screws; so he replaced those and tightened all the other screws. He explained how he fixed the railing, and didn't leave any dirt or mess. Rich was very professional and courteous. I definitely will use this company again and ask for Rich. I am very pleased with the work.

Called Handyman Matters at 0930 this morning and spoke to Rose who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She explained everything in detail and answered all my questions, which was a very refreshing experience. I asked her to set me up an appointment and she asked if she could call me right back. I agreed and within 15 minutes she called me and said she could have someone here this afternoon which was perfect as it was my day off. Outstanding customer service! An hour later Chuck called to say he finished his morning job early and was ready to come over. He arrived within 45 minutes. Chuck looked at the work needed to be done and I gave him the go ahead. He was extremely efficient, didn't waste any time and was done in two hours. I was thrilled. It cost me $202.00 total, and as a comparason I was given another estimate for the same work by another contractor at $880.00. A savings of $678.00 Would I use them again? Without hesitation!Would I recommend them to someone else? Without question!Am I happy? Unbelieveably!

They told me to purchase two gallons of primer and two gallons of paint. The first person came out, put the primer on but didn't use that much paint. After the work was done, I signed a paper letting them know I was satisfied with the work when the paint was still wet. After it dried, I called them and let them know I was dissatisfied, and another handyman came out and finish the work. He did a better job and actually used the rest of the paint. He told me that there was a full and a quarter gallon of paint left and was able to finish the job. He told me by the amount of paint that was left, that the previous painter did not put two coats on (as he said he would) There was a little work that needed to be done above the garage door, but he said that his two hours were up so I let him know not to worry about finishing the job.

After arranging the appointment through their website (which was quite easy and time saving), I believed it was Sharon from their office who called to confirm the appointment. Chuck, the handyman, came out and was very polite, and treated our home with respect. We walked through the projects before he got started on the range hood. The previous contractor who installed the hood did not properly install the ventilation and I was afraid that we need to remove the vent cap and re-cut the vinyl siding. Chuck was able to resolve the issue without any addition damage to the house. I was happy with the quality of work. We also requested them to seal our L-shape gutter that leak every time it rains. They work with another gutter company who came out to do the repair. The gutter company did tell us that they can not guarantee that the new caulking would hold since the gutter is old, but they went ahead and re-caulk the section anyway. When it rains the next day and the gutter continue to leak, I pointed out to Chuck (who came back to completed the bathroom fan replacement job). Chuck recommended that I give Sharon in the office a call and let her know. This is where things went south. I tried to explain to Sharon that the gutter leak wasn’t resolved and if they could send someone to re-caulk or do something to fix the problem. She was EXTREMELY rude over the phone, very unsympathetic. All she kept repeating was that they already told us that they can’t guarantee the job so there is nothing she can do. Granted that they charged us $100 for 5 minutes of gutter caulking, on top of $325 for 4 hours of handyman work (which is a discounted price). We would have referred this company to our friends if not for this unfortunate interaction with the office staff. I have attached pictures of the gutter AFTER re-caulking was done.

There was one person who did all of the work, and he was courteous and professional. There was a small amount of clean up that I had to do, but it was very minor. Mostly vacuming, a couple of stray pieces of wood that he must not of noticed when he cleaned up. The work quality was very good. The price was reasonable, but certainly not a "good deal" even though I used a coupon. He tried to work with me so that I didn't have to pay extra for work that I could do myself - which was nice. Only other complaint was that I had to provide a ladder for the attic work (which I didn't own) and had to go track one down because he didn't bring the right one with him. But in general, a positive experience.

I had some flashing come off my house during a windstorm on a Firday nght. The following Tuesday I called Handyman Matters and they came out the same day. They needed some extra tools to complete the work so had to come out the following morning, but they were there bright and early and had the flashing reinstalled very quickly. Moreover, they claim to have installed it in such a way that it should never come off again - the same piece has come off previously and been repaired by other companies. Hopefully they're correct! I would definitely use Handyman Matters again.

We had some damage on our siding and facia from the recent storm. I called HMoC and the lady I talked to was very nice and informative.. even gave me suggestions on where to buy the materials myself to save money. Rich was the guy who came 3 days later to do the work and he was very professional and curteous. Did the work pretty quickly and on a very hot day! Excellent service. I'll definitely be using them again for other work we have in mind in the future.

I have used Handyman Matters 3 time in the last 60 days. I LOVE THEM! From the moment that I call their office and speak to SHARON who coordinates the work, I know things will be done right and there will be no surprises. She scheduled my appointment for 4 days after I called and assured me the painter would be here by 8 am. He actually arrived a few minutes early. When I opened the door I met a WONDERFUL guy named JOSH. He shook my hand and introduced himself and asked how he could help. Although I know Sharon told him my horror story, he listened to every detail. He then asked what was most important to have completed and if I was okay with extending the project by a few hours if needed. Assuring me he would let me know an hour before hand what he would recommend. That was GREAT! I kept trying to get him to take short cut with correcting the problems with my botched painting job. He was insistent that we do it right and that it could be done on budget. He got right to work, removing paint, mixing mud, taping the required areas and making steady progress. It was so refreshing to see someone taking pride in their work and always asking me to check to make sure I was happy before he moved on. He was not even bother's by my daughter's Silky Terrier who insisted on supervising his work. The work was amazing, it was finished on time and on budget. Josh was warm, professional and thorough. I have several other projects that I will need to have done in the next 12 months, some of which will be painting. I hope they send Josh back. I loved working with him. But I am confident that anyone Handyman Matters sends will be just as awesome! Thanks again for an amazing job.

I contacted the company and was able to arrange a date for the handyman to come to our house without any problems. He called the night before to confirm the appointment. He showed up on time and started on the ceiling fan which is in a cathedral ceiling in the kitchen. Even though we were both a little confused about the installation he was able to figure out the problem and complete the installation. I was also having a problem with the exhaust fan/light in the bathroom. I had brought a replacement fan and he was able to configure the two fans to replace the old fan without tearing up the ceiling, etc. That was much appreciated. I had also brought two baby gates for the top and bottom of my steps which he installed without to many problems. The price was fair as he was at my house for over 5 hours.

I used him about a year ago and he did a good job. I thought the price was a bit high but I give them a B rating. I an not sure if I will use them again.

My experience was great. They had to do the job over two days. There was a little confusion when a different worker showed up the second day and he thought he was starting the job. They both did great work. The price was fair. The office people and the workers were very professional.

The entire experience was exceptional. I had a list of handyman services I needed completed and each was done very well and in a reasonable amount of time. Glen was extremely professional. I would definitely use this company again.

The contact with the office for an appointment and estimate was easy and helpful. The handyman making the call was professional. He repaired the outdoor light, adjusted the cabinet door and checked the leaky faucet. Unfortunately, it was decided that the faucet may have to be replaced. I will be happy to use this company in the future.

They have fixed things in my bathroom. He changed from doors. He always fixed part of the kitchen ceiling. They were very honest and on time. There were honest about the things that I needed. I will continue to use them in the future, if needed.
