Champion Windows and Home Exteriors of Baltimore

The siding installation was install expeditiously without problems. The window install was a nightmare!!! Two guys show up to install the windows, we had single windows switched to a 2 part slide. While cutting out the frame they cut into the molding around the windows and left big obvious half moon cuts in the molding in which they tried to cover up with a big glob of caulking, this was done to all 4 front windows. They did not use Champions weather proofing foam between the frame and windows and used old pieces from the existing windows. When the contractors were made to come out and fix their work, they made it WORSE!!! The contractors got caulking on the outside on the new siding and then tried to wipe it off only to make it worse. The siding installers had to come out and replace what the window installers had damaged. I had made several calls to management at the Baltimore regional location and sent pictures. 3 more contractors came out to correct what these guys had done, they had to remove all the caulk, replace the molding, and it was at this point when they noticed the weather foam was not installed. Champion hires contractors who do not have the same pride and quality that Champion has with it's product. I hope I never have to call back to have a window fixed or replaced, I anticipate that service to be just as awful as the install. Champion was our 3rd estimate... wish we would have read reviews first.

They introduced their products which I was in to the conversations. I really had a good conversation with the office manager when we were looking for replacement storm windows. They were clear about explaining what the options were for both storm windows and doors and were very conscientious in the work. One of the glass panels that they brought came damaged. They made the arrangements right away to have it replaced and they did that in a very timely way so they had that commitment. The office people and the field people were great to work with. There was minimal of intrusion in the house and we’ve been very pleased with the outcome. We have both storm windows and storm doors added and it has really made a difference in the ability to control the temperature in the house. We were very pleased because we were a little uncertain on what to do. We had cats that were pushing the window screens out so we needed something that was more secure but they also gave us something that was more environmental friendly.

The salesman came to the house and quoted me an incredible price for the work needed to be done. I was sold, so I signed and then cancelled my other quote appointments. The work was to include the porch roof, a small mudd room roof, siding 11x13x10 and recoping a window. $3800. I though it sounded to good to be true. Contract was signed 10/23/2013. The work was supposed to start by 11/23/2013. I received an email on 11/15 stating they were looking at their schedule. (I missed this email.) I called to cancel my contract early December because I had not heard anything. I did not receive a phone call. The install manager got snippy and said he did email me which I discovered was the case. I thought ok, maybe this is normal, so did not cancel. Instead the install manager wanted to meet me at the house to discuss some 'other' options. I felt like I was being 'upsold' so I said no I just want what is on the contract. THEY SUBCONTRACT ALL ROOFING AND SIDING JOBS so I had to meet 3 differently roofers at the house and discuss the job. None of them could do the job for what it was quoted for. I finally got them to agree to cancel the contract in February after having to explain my situation to the regional manager. The company did give me full refund of my deposit. I did not appreciate all the time I wasted waiting for the work to begin.

The first two representatives (first one to provide estimate and second to take measurements) were very courteous and punctual. The installers who came about four weeks after the initial order (the windows are custom made so it takes a little while) were so nice and courteous. They were a couple of hours late due to traffic, but they were a pleasure to work with. They did an excellent job and left everything clean and in great shape. Prices are high, but so is the quality. Plus the windows are made in the U.S.A. and guaranteed for life. I would use Champion again, especially in a home I plan to live in a long time. They give a discount if you are willing to put a Champion sign in your yard for a few weeks.

Champion seems to use subcontractors to do the installation. They came in two stages, ours was a large job. Both subcontractors were fine. We would have appreciated knowing that the folks who were coming to put the windows in wouldn't be in a Champion truck. Subcontractors came as scheduled, no problems with window installation, they left no mess. A glitch in the order, though--for some reason the factor didn't put the right style mullions in our windows. However, they replaced them correctly a couple of weeks later, and there was no problem with Champion doing that. We are pleased with the quality of the windows.

They didn't give me a precise quote for the job. They kept changing it. I would not use them again.

The company responded promptly. The serviceman was efficient and accommodated our request for an additional problem with an entry door that Champion had installed at an earlier date. We have been very pleased with Champion's installation and service.

The salesman was punctual, professional and knowledgeable. The work was completed within the time quoted and was done in a professional manner. The workers arrived on time each day and cleaned up before they left. I was extremely satisfied with the job.

The site crew was very professional. They ran into a few issues with our old basement windows and had to figure out a way to make the new ones work. They came up with solutions on the spot and install was a breeze. We couldn't be happier with the way things turned out. Greg Schwartz, the salesman, did the original site visit and went over all of our options and choices. He too was very professional and did not push us into anything we didn't ask for. He was very knowledgeable and to the point. We appreciated his time as well.

I had a good experience with them. I like their price. They were okay. They completed the work.

I was impressed by the professionalism of everyone I met: the sales reps, the staff that delivered the materials, the installers, and the personnel in the office. All work was completed as promised and on time and I was kept informed of any changes due to rain dates. After they finished, I was also impressed by the cleanup. There was no debris, anywhere .

05/14/2014-A lot more is happening. The current hold up is due to the permits office in Jefferson County, WV. It is over a flood plain issue, and the county not allowing a repair. Since my last post, manager Doug Brenner has jumped through many hoops with the county, making many calls and visits to the county permit office and completing their additional requirements. Champion, at their own expense, hired a surveyor to shoot an elevation to prove the property was not in the floodplain which cost them $1,000.00. Mr. Brenner has kept us up to date with everything that is going on and we HOPE to bring this to a quick resolution so that we can get our room replaced! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3/3/2014 We have yet to see how it will go. We signed our contract on 09/28/2013. (corrected from 12/28/2013) Jim the salesman was very nice and accomodating. The manager, Doug, has not followed up regarding when the permit will be ready and they can start. When we called, several weeks ago, we were told that the permit was still with their engineers. It is now 3/31/14 and nothing yet. I am hoping that things happen soon and we can change this review to one that says "Well satisfied, great job on the finished project, Champion."

Very well - on time on budget very well done

Not well, they never called or showed up to quote the job.

It was fine. I think that the cost of the service was $13,000 or $14,000. They did a very good job and they were on time.

We had them replace a wooden door with four lights with a metal door with one full length double pane light and a separate sliding exterior screen.. The door was exactly what we wanted and worked perfectly. The screen door did not and the installer had to replace some parts and make adjustments. He did that in a timely manner and now everything is in order.

The windows are custom made to fit which is great. We have definitely noticed a difference this winter. These replaced 23 year old Anderson windows. When minor difficulties arose, they were very responsive to our concerns and needs.

This review is for the Champion in Baltimore, Maryland (Essex area). I don't know if all Champions would offer the same quality and customer service. First of all, I would like to say that we love our sunroom. It faces the woods behind our property and we have enjoyed watching the wildlife....birds, groundhogs, squirrels and even deer. The 4-season Champion sunroom is solidly built and has the feel of a true addition rather than just a porch. We had their vinyl beadboard installed on the ceiling and the house wall. Instead of the carpeting they offered, we installed our own Pergo wood laminate floor which turned out great. An electrician installed a ceiling fan, electrical outlets and a wall light for an additional cost. We did not get the heat pump that they offered--we are trying a space heater and fan since we have some heating/air conditioning coming into the sunroom with the French doors open. All the staff was helpful, polite and professional. Did everything go perfectly? Does it ever on a big project? The French door installers started to install the door backward from what we wanted--luckily we caught them in time and it was possible to correct. One window was defective in that it had handprints inside the 2 glass panes, but Champion quickly replaced it. Overall, the project took 5 weeks (it could have been shorter) and went well. We truly enjoy the extra space and relaxing/scenic view. Our three cats are thrilled also.

Besides taking a lot of time to initially hear from them, after I was given an estimate and demonstration, I learned that I can get a much better deal for less through other Big Deal window offers.

Mr. Chong and his two man crew took great care to protect the inside of our home with plastic sheeting covering their work areas. On the outside they did the same to capture all the debris. It took them six hours to complete the installation and clean up. I am highly pleased with the results. The only complaint would be the price, which I thought was a little high. I have seen ads for lower priced windows, but they might be of less quality. I think these windows from Champion are of the higher grade. I guess my energy bills will show the savings. Overall, I paid for the company name and it's warranty service and backing.

It went well since I never had any work done by this provider.

A few months ago (after having an excellent experience with Champion?s custom made bow window, I hired Champion to design and install a 20 x 11foot deck. Aside of both products? superiority (365 glass, ease of use, and the composite material advantages) my sales rep Jim Mueller deserves a good word. I didn?t just go with Champion and Jim without checking other companies and installers. I had ten sales reps come to my house and ?soap my brain? about their products and services. The only one who had extensive construction experience was Jim. This gave him an edge. He knew to discuss the nitty-gritty of each aspect of each product including the failsafe footing system used on all patio rooms and decks. Jim knows Champion?s products in-side-out. He introduced me to material choices, installation standards, and Champion?s warranty! Which is by the way unmatched by anyone. He even made style recommendations which enhanced the overall look of my house. I could trust that Jim would tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth when it came to the installation schedule, attention to detail during construction, the price and the warrantee. There was no fine print to deal with. Oh what a relief that was! Working with Jim and Champion was a smooth sale as far as I am concerned, an experience which I whole heartedly recommend.

I gave Champion a B instead of an A because there was a problem that came down to communication - but I will say that at all times they were completely professional about it, they handled my complaint appropriately, and in the end, I was satisfied, and that's the goal. It just took longer than it needed to because of the miscommunication issues, but I think these have been addressed, not just in my case, but for the company. I'm very happy with the work. I had two broken basement windows. Now, these windows, as it happens, were split panes. That is, there is one window opening, but there were two panes of glass divided by a metal bar. So to me, I viewed each window as two different windows. One of the broken windows was where my dryer vent is. That is, the one pane was broken (to me, that was one window) and the other pane had a hole cut in it for the dryer vent. When the salesman came to view the windows and ask what I wanted, I pointed to the broken pane and said, "this window," and the broken pane in another window, and said the same thing. At no time did he tell me that the window consisted of both panes. Champion does replacements, but not repairs. Then the man came to measure the windows. Again, I showed him the windows, and was very specific. He also did not tell me that the window consisted of both panes. He did not mention that it would cost extra to cut a hole for the dryer vent. He just took measurements. A week or two later, I got a call from Champion, asking if I really wanted the dryer vent hole cut, because that would cost extra (it wasn't written into my contract, but it should have been). I said no, because to me, that wasn't the broken window. When the men came to install the windows, they took the dryer vent out, and when I saw that they were putting in a window with no vent, I went a little ballistic. The crew supervisor told me to call a supervisor at Champion, and I did, and she was great. She got all the information from me, spoke to the crew chief, and assured me that the crew would install something temporary so that I wouldn't have an empty window hole and my dryer would still work, and that they'd get on the right window right away. It took several extra weeks, but the window came in, and the installation manager came himself to install it today. Champion didn't charge me any extra for the window with the dryer vent hole. The window looks great. There's no hole where there shouldn't be. There's a dryer vent hole where there should be. Everyone at Champion was very polite and understanding. The installation manager told me that they've talked about this and the need to communicate clearly, so this sort of thing shouldn't happen again. Sometimes things go wrong, but I can work with a company that works to make things right. Champion definitely did that. I'd use them again.

Not impressed with the fact that it is so simple to hang a sign on the door telling customers they are moving the office. Furthermore, they should take the Frederick location off the website so when one enters their zip code for store location it pulls up the store front which is actually OPEN.

Great job, looks great! You get what you pay for!
