Champion Windows and Home Exteriors of Baltimore

From start to finish, we were treated the way we hoped to be treated. We used Angie's List to narrow our job down to the four highest-rated providers in our area and got in-home bids from each. For the record, all four were great to deal with and I'm sure any would have provided top-notch service. In-home estimate took a while but no longer than the others and the product has some small advantages in our mind (more glass vs. molding, better "ratings" than some, etc.). We had some decisions to make on types of windows and the sales rep (OK...factory rep!) was very helpful in taking us through the pros and cons of these decisions. Champion was not the lowest bid but they were in the ball park and we worked it a little bit further so we felt we were getting the best product we saw AND the best price we saw. Even that final negotiation was quick and painless. Windows were given a final measure (another nice Champion rep) and sent to the factory. A very quick turnaround, especially for summer, had us set-up for installation a few weeks later. Of the entire experience, the installation crew was tops. Two guys replaced 16 windows in a day and left the place mostly spotless. The doors had to wait another week as one was still being delivered but the same two came back to finish the job. It's a little more than a month later and we absolutely couldn't be happier with the new windows and doors. Amazing what a difference it makes. Sure, ANY new stuff would have been an obvious improvement on what we had but getting the work done so smoothly, from first call to installation, makes it all the most satisfying. I recommend Champion without reservation for window and door replacement.

At our request, Champion sales representative, Greg Schwartz, visited us on May 19 to give us the cost and benefits of their window products. (We also requested similar information on their siding and doors.) His visit was very informative and positive. We liked the fact that Champion has total ownership of their product (i.e., sales, manufacturing, and installation). On May 27, Champion's installation manager made all of the final measurements. The windows were installed by Champion's crew (Mr. Chun) on July 11 and 12. Both the product and installation were excellent and exceeded all expectations. (Note: Champion was a firm recommended in Washington Checkbook. Mr. Schwartz quickly informed us that the recommendation was for a different firm in Rockville, MD. He told us of Angie's List which we joined soon after.)

The door project went through the same sales and measurement process for windows and siding (i.e., sales on May 19 and measurement on May 27). All doors were installed on August 18. Both the doors and the installation (Mr. Chun) are excellent.

At our request, Champion's sales representative, Greg Schwartz, visited us on May 19 to give us the cost and benefits of their siding product. (We also requested similar information for windows and doors which will be covered in additional reports.) His visit lasted over 5 hours but did not seem that long. We signed the contract that afternoon. On May 27, Champion's installation manager took the final measurements. The siding and exterior wood surfaces were installed by Champion's own crew (led by Mark) on July 14 and 15. Both the product and the installation were excellent. During the installation process, and damaged wood below the old exterior was replaced with new wood.

It went very well. The scheduling was great. The workmanship and cost was great as well. They arrived promptly. Also they cleaned up after they were finished. They were also very friendly.

When the representative came out to take measurements, he acted confused about the number of windows that were in the house. He claimed that he had quoted me for just 10 windows. Since there were 16 windows (as I told him and he CONFIRMED over the phone!) the price jumped significantly. My husband told him about another company we are considering and that their price was more in line with what he originally quoted. The rep then told him that he could come down another 5% for no financing and 10% if we provided him with a lower price quote for a comparable window. He was still unable to get anywhere close to his original quote. When my husband told him the quote we got from the other company, the rep commented, "oh, that must be for a metal-reinforced window." Which is isn't, and it actually has a better U-rating than Champion offers. So, due to the rep's lack of listening (or due to lying; not sure which), we will not be considering Champion for our window replacement job. My only other thought is that he couldn't read his own handwriting since some people write the number 6 and it looks like a zero. However, when speaking on the phone about 16 windows repetitively, I would think he would quote me for 16 windows. It felt as if he quoted me an excellent price just so I would invite him out to measure so he could put on his hard-sell when he came out.

They came when they promised. They did a good job. We are very satisfied. They cleaned up and were very prompt. I would use them again and I recommend them.

The windows were all done in one day with precision, very professional workers (sub-contractors). On another day the doors were all done and on a 3rd day the siding was all done (I didn't have to be here for that). Everyone was professional, on time from the beginning with the salesperson calling to confirm, arriving on time and explaining everything completely. Any mess was cleaned up at the end of the day and they carted all the old parts away. The windows and doors are beautiful and have a nice tight seal.

Poor communication with home owner. Poor coordination and scheduling. No field foreman or on site supervision of worker crews. Neighbors complained about workers, noise, parking of trucks, and trash. Nails remain scattered on lawn & planting beds. Left behind trash, nails, and scrap materials. Multiple returns to fix problems and still not complete. Crews took homeowner materials & lumber to perform work without permission. Use of unskilled workers. Crews inadequately equipped w/tools and materials.

Sales representative arrived on time and gave very thorough presentation. He did not push aggressively for the sale. Scheduler worked with us to find a mutually acceptable installation date. Crew arrived and finished on time and was very polite. Quality of products and installation appear very good. It is great to have windows that you can actually open.When I expressed a minor dissatisfaction in the company's customer service survey, the president called me personally and worked diligently to resolve the situation to our satisfaction. We are happy overall, and would recommend this company.

These guys were super! They came when they said they would, worked efficiently and neatly, and left us with great windows. When I noted that they had failed to cap one of the windows they had not replaced, as they had said they would, they called the next morning and someone came out that day to remedy the situation. I call that great customer service. I highly recommend them.

Everything is OK, but we find a little bit better price.

Champion Window Company of Baltimore came on time, were very careful of my property and were very professional. I had checked with Lowes, Home Depot and Andersen Windows and Champion beat them all of price. The quality of the windows is very high. I was also very happy to receive a great discount because I bought so many windows. They also were having a 5% off sale, so I think I did pretty well.

They were very prompt. They were in and out and there was no mess. They knew the area and gave me the bid over the phone. They were excellent!

They were great to work with. We needed the homeowners association approval which took over a month to get since out association lost our application. Champion was very patient while we were waiting for approval. When the windows finally came I discovered I needed immediate surgery. We had to change the date for the window installation 3 times. They were very accommodating and did not push us to install the windows until we were ready. The installation team worked diligently from 9:30 am until 7 pm. They had to travel to and from Maryland to northern Virginia where we live. They cleaned cleaned up everything including the windows. Today is our first day with the windows. Our upstairs bedrooms were always too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. I thought our furnace and air conditioner needed replacement because it was not sending enough air upstairs. But today the upstairs is nice and cool. Looks like it was the windows not the air conditioner.

Bob Wade was our representative. He came right on time, suggested a number of cost-saving measures (Angie's List coupon, also replacing the 5-window wall with 1 window with sliding panels, not 5 windows), and walked us through the various ratings. We had done our own research and were very impressed with the high ratings, good prices, and full warranty (including damage we might cause ourselves). Technicians came to do precise measurements (which increases the window's energy efficiency). They came on time for installation, removed the old windows very cleanly, installed the new ones perfectly, and left almost no mess behind. And now we don't feel ANY heat through the windows, when the old ones would feel like a blast furnace. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the market for new windows.

I tried to use their detailed online request form, and after spending 10 or so minutes filling it out, it did not work, and I did not receive a call or email response.

Champion was great to work with. I had been doing a lot of research on replacement windows and had gone to several showrooms and had a number of window representatives come to my home. Champion was by far the best. I started by going to their showroom in Gaithersburg where I could see the demo products. A very friendly woman provided additional information and scheduled a home visit. The following week I met with Bob Wade, who gave a very thorough and informative demonstration and provided a free no obligation estimate. One thing that really impressed me about Champion was that on the day of Bob's visit, I was not able and ready to sign a contract and they were willing to be flexible and applied no pressure at all. Less than two weeks later I had Bob come to sign the contract. Throughout the whole process the entire Champion staff was accommodating, friendly, and helpful.

The workers were reliable, prompt, courteous, diligent, and worked late to complete the job. The windows are top quality and everything they said they would be. I am very very pleased with their work. After I checked on five window companies they seemed to be the best bet.

Excellent company to work with. Quality products & salesperson/estimator knew his business, and reminded me that I could take the EnergyStar glass door off my taxes. There was no hard sell. All work done on time; all representatives very professional and friendly, including those in the showroom in Gaithersburg. The sliding glass door works beautifully, and the installers really worked hard to make it perfect. I would use this company again in a heartbeat.

Competitive price on good grade of vinyl windows. Neat installation with good clean up. Very pleasant employees. Slight factory blemishes discovered on 2 windows. Frank came out as scheduled and ordered replacement sashes.

They started four months ago and have not yet finished. They burst an interior pipe going exterior. They insisted on fixing themselves, it took them 8 hours of work. In the process they destroyed my lawn. They did not fix it properly, it still leaked after they repaired it. They said they will pay for the plumber to come out and repair the work they tried to repair. The tracked mud thru my house and had to get my carpets cleaned. We gave them a punch list, they sent someone out but has not finished. They have been harassing us about paying for the work that has not yet been completed. They've left nails in my driveway. They are just the worst. Customer service is the last on their list and only return calls when they feel like it. The final project looks great but when we shut the door it would not shut.

Windows arrived at Champion store from the factory one month later than estimated date of installment with no calls from Champion. On day of installment, two windows were wrong style and consequently had to be ordered again. New windows again arrived 2 weeks later than promised with no calls indicating time of arrival from Champion. Although the windows look very nice, unfortunately for us we notice no difference in insulation. While contractors are professional and prompt on installment day, the owner of company seemed uninterested in our disappointment and shirked responsibility for poor customer service.

THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND I WAS SHOCKED AT THE TIME IT TOOK THEM TO DO THE JOB. THEY WORKED AT A GREAT SPEED AND DID A GREAT JOB. I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THEM AND WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYBODY. THEY'RE A NO NONSENSE COMPANY. GREAT JOB.

I FELT THIS WAS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE WITH THE COMPANY. I LEARNED A LOT BY OBSERVING WHAT WAS TAKEN PLACE. THEY INSTALLED THE WINDOW IN ONE DAY. BOY! IT LOOKED BEAUTIFUL.
