Perfectly from all areas.
Description of Work: I needed to have a repair made where a crew had to remove hardwood floor to get to a frozen pipe. The opening was repaired by placing new board and weaving into existing boards and then it had to be stained and blended to match the existing family room floor. Excellent job. Cannot remotely see where patch was made. Will rehire without hesitation.

Great, CL and his group installed the floors on time and according to the estimate. I also had a few minor problems, which they quickly fixed free of charge. They also were incredibly responsive to providing a quote in a very short window. Great company and would recommend them to friends.

Description of Work: We had just bought a house and wanted to redo our wooden floors. Our real estate agent recommended this company highly. |They said it would take a week to do the work, and by mid week hardly any work had been done in the floors. They finished the work on time but did a lousy job. They splattered polyurethane all over the place and in less than a year's time the coating had started to come off. I do not recommend their services.

For the carpet in the rental house, we went to the showroom and described our requirement. They quickly showed us just the sort of look and price that we wanted and a decision was made within 15 minutes of arriving. They ordered the carpet, it came in quickly and they set-up a schedule for the house work. Communication was excellent and the team showed up on time and did the work without my supervision. Work quality was excellent! Involved carpeting a staircase with a tight 90 degree twist and cutting between wood bannisters on the upper floor - tricky stuff. It has been about a year and everything is as tight and trim as the day they did the work. Based on that experience, we had them put in laminate wood in our house. Again, they had what we wanted in the showroom and the communication and punctuality was excellent. This was a simple job and they took care of all the details. Well run company with good technicians!

However, the sheen on the bedroom floors (and the less than fine sanding of the new floors in prep for the urethane) is definitely noticeable to me. Those seem like flaws to me that nobody else would notice. My husband is satisfied.
Description of Work: He installed hardwood floors (red oak, sanded on site) in my very large master bedroom. The installation is quite good, but I had preferred oil-based urethane as used on the rest of my wood floors. Although the drying time between coats was only marginally ;longer than that for water-based urethane, the vendor said there would be an extra charge, so I stayed with the less expensive option. I also asked the vendor for estimates on screening and re-applying urethane on the 1st floor of my house and installing wood floors in the family room. The vendor promised an estimate for both jobs, but never provided one.

Very well. They were on time every day they worked. The owner was hands on managing the job. His staff were very professional and did excellent work. The owner and his job foreman gave us a choice of 4 brown stains and we selected an espresso that turned out beautifully. They applied great attention to detail and their finishing work was excellent. They completed the project ahead of schedule. We were looking for a new house look as we are selling our house, and Randolph Flooring and CL Long did a remarkable job. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone for similar work. Found CL Long to be very honest and stand behind his work.
Description of Work: Provided a full estimate with options to pull, replace and dispose of existing entire 2nd level carpeting (in 4 bedrooms and full hallway), pull up all tacking and nails and dispose, sweep clean, sand, stain and refinish all floors there including the cutting and installation of new matching shoe molding throughout.

They did excellent work. Best contractor we've worked with so far. The floors are beautiful now. They were also the most easy to schedule contractor and were very flexible with me moving things around to accommodate other contractors. I was impressed with how little dust was left. I was expecting a lot, but they did a great job.

They were able to schedule both the estimate and the work itself very promptly and the work was completed on time. The floor looks good and they did a particularly nice job with the shoe molding and one of the thresholds. BUT... They performed the work while we were on vacation, knowing we would not be back for a week+. Even though I left a note to this effect, they left 2 lights on, left our storm door propped open (we came home and thought at first glance maybe we had been broken into!), left a pile of sawdust on our back porch, and a small pile of screws on our front porch. I know refinishing can be dusty business, and they did do a good job of leaving the inside of our house clean. However, I was highly annoyed that they left a visible sign outside for anyone to know that we weren't home for an extended period of time, and while I might not have been too bothered by the several other items I mentioned above, the combination of all of these does upset me. My bigger issue with the work, though, has to do with a threshold they made to go on our top step as a transition from a slate floor to the wood steps. It is slanted downwards in a way that I feel is unsafe. I can tell they put effort into making it and it does not look bad; however, it is dangerous. The only reason I would go so far as to criticize this company on Angie's List, though, is that I have called several times, *very* pleasantly (honestly!) to discuss the situation and I am not happy with the response I got. When the woman called to tell me they had my key and what my balance was, I mentioned the screen door, lights, sawdust, and nails, but instead of saying any kind of sorry (which is all I would have expected), she just said she didn't know why they did that (not as satisfying as an apology). When I asked about my stair threshold concern, she was very nice and said she would talk to her husband (CL), who did/oversaw the work and get his feedback. She did do that, but when she called me back, she basically suggested that I should just "get used to it." Now, I do think that I personally would be able to get used to the sloping step, but what I told her was that guests, like my own mom or anyone coming over for the first time would not have that chance and could be injured. I repeatedly complimented the look of it and said that I understood that a different option might not look as good, but that safety was my priority. She told me she would ask CL to call me himself to discuss it. That is the last I heard about it. In the meantime, I had sent a check for the balance, which they cashed instantly-- that's fine, I do owe them that money. However, I do think that they owe me the courtesy of calling me back when they have said they would and also of not being so dismissive of my concerns, especially when I went to great pains to compliment them and be friendly, etc. I didn't show my annoyance in a rude way and maybe that's why they failed to take my concerns seriously? One other annoying thing-- CL had said repairs would be extra (above the estimate) since he had not yet seen the whole floor as I was still working on taking up the carpet when he came to do the estimate. This is totally reasonable, and I told him we would be happy to pay for whatever unexpected repairs arose. So, there are a few places where, instead of repairing damaged wood, they filled in a LOT of space with some unattractive putty or something. He did not charge me any extra, so perhaps he thought he was doing me some kind of favor, but I would have strongly preferred to pay more and have all the squares be in good shape when it was all done.

They were excellent, they did the work in advance and it was a very reasonable bid. The workers were done in day and they put the kind of polyon that I could my furniture back on that night, so it didn't disturb much of anything. They are quick to finish and they do a quality job. I've used them before and I would continue to use them again in the future.

This was a 2-day, dusty, disruptive job (not their fault) but they made it as easy on us as they could. They were careful to cover and close off with heavy plastic the areas in which they were not working, careful about moving things around (including appliances) and kept us informed about the process.

The whole project started some eight months ago; we ripped up the ancient carpet in our newly-purchased home and decided that we'd refinish the floors and the woodwork. Randolph's name was given to us by some friends; their estimate was quick and thorough. We put the floors on hold while we refinished the doors and wood trim ourselves. Six months after receiving the estimate, we called Randolph again. Not only did they agree to the original estimate, but they were able to schedule the work with only a week's lead time, which allowed us to complete the remodelling project before guests arrived at Easter. Although we only had some 500-600 square feet of floors to refinish, the job took about two and a half days to complete, due to the appalling state of the floors. (We ripped up the carpet ourselves to find paint all over the old hardwood, as well as two or three damaged boards in the living room floor.) The end result is an AMAZING transformation. Overall, the quality of the work done, the professional service, and the reasonable cost made the entire project a pleasant experience. There are only a few very minor concerns that led me to downgrade by rating of "quality" and "responsiveness" to a B. First, Randolph Floors were not very responsive to our special circumstances. I am severely hearing impaired. My husband had to work, so I had to be the one meeting with the workmen each day. When the work was scheduled, my husband requested that C.L. make sure that whoever came out to the house at the beginning - to discuss things like stain color, installing three thresholds, etc. - spoke good English. C.L. assured us that the foreman for the project would meet this criterion. This request was born solely from a desire on our part to make sure that I could communicate effectively despite my hearing loss. While the two men who completed our job were professional and courteous and did great work, they did not exactly meet our request that a native English speaker come to the house. As a result, I wasn't always sure what was going on, and my husband ended up having to call the main office several times to double-check on the progress of the work. As a hearing impaired individual, I find this lack of compliance to our request to be incredibly frustrating. Second, the thresholds that they installed in certain doorways - between the hardwood floor in the dining room and the linoleum in the kitchen, for example - don't match the quality of the work in the rest of the house The one in the kitchen doorway isn't wide enough to cover the edge of the kitchen flooring (leaving a small gap), while the one in the bathroom doorway is set out too far in the door jamb so that when the door is closed, the ceramic tiles show beneath it, instead of the bottom of the door resting just above the top of the threshold. This is a fairly minor complaint, but if we had done the work ourselves, we would have been much more careful to line up the thresholds properly. The third and final minor concern relates to some of the gaps between the floorboards. In one spot, the boards were slightly warped from some old water damage, so that sanding them flat left a substantial gap between some of the boards. Although the workers filled in the gaps in a few places, they left some gaping spaces in others. We were well aware of the potential drawbacks to filling the gaps, but we had expected - and requested - that some of the larger spaces be filled in. It's a minor issue given the overall quality of the rest of the refinishing work, but it speaks to an ever-so-slightly less-than-stellar attention to the requests of the customer. (In fairness, however, this issue could quite well have resulted from my inability to answer questions and communicate effectively with Randolph's workers.) Overall, Randolph still rates a A rating, and I'd enthusiastically recommend them to anyone looking for floor refinishing on a modest budget.
Description of Work: Randolph repaired and refinished our hardwood floors, from sanding to staining to sealing. The result is stunning! And the entire work was done in less than three days, for under $1500, an extremely competitive price.

After we moved into our new house we realized the hardwood floors were pretty rough looking so we decided to get them refinished before we brought in our furniture. We called Randolph Floor Service because we used them before and they did a good job at a great price. Araon Castro, an estimator with Randolph, came the next day after I gave him call. He was able to give us an estimate that was fair, as well as schedule the work within in our very tight schedule (started the following week), which was the main reason we choose them. The day they started the crew showed up with three stain samples that we picked with Araon so we could see how they would look on our floors. They sanded a strip of our floor in sunlight and then applied all three stains for our review. After we picked the stain we liked best, they starting working. It took four days. The finished project was amazing. The floors look brand new. My only issues were that I wished they had used a filler in the gaps between some of the planks, but then again I did not make that request. In addition, in a couple of spots they got stain on our white baseboards. These were minor in comparison to the quality of the floors and their ability to get the work done within our VERY tight schedule.
Description of Work: Refinished (sanded, stained, and sealed) all of the hardwood floors in our house, as well as replaced all of the shoe molding, which were stained to match the floors.

They are great. I should have called them sooner for the bad spots. I though it was going to be more costly to fix the problems.
Description of Work: I recently had them wash and re-coat with a water based urethane in about 4 rooms and it looks great. They sanded in two or three worn high traffic areas and it came out great. A few years ago (1999) they had done an extensive refinishing for us and installed floors as well in two rooms.
