Fred and Son Plumbing

Quick and professional. We have lived in the Washington, DC area for over 40 years and at last we have found a great plumber! Fred is highly skilled, explains everything before starting work, and quotes the price, so no surprises. He is very responsive and and comes quickly, even on a Saturday. A few months ago, we had a sudden leak in one of our toilets. It was afternoon when I called Fred, but he was able to fix it the same day. I highly recommend Fred and am happy to have found a great plumber.

They never returned my call, but I left a detailed message of what I needed done and I guess it was not enough to make it worth their time. Found someone else. Their loss.

This company was very professional and very thorough.

Fred was punctual, professional and knowledgeable. He provided an estimate prior to starting work. The cost of the service was mainly due to the commode that was leaking which needed a complete rebuild which was a little time consuming. Mid-way through fixing the leaking faucet, Fred realized he needed another part and had to make a trip to the plumbing supply stores. He did not charge extra for his time. I would definitely call Fred for future plumbing work.

The plumber was able to come earlier than scheduled - always a good thing. The job was completed quickly. He took the time to explain the problem and offer a suggestion on how to save money in the future. We were very happy with the service.

Fred came the same day we called, on a Saturday, and did a nice efficient job. He was happy to talk through things and gave tips to prevent recurrence. It was hard finding someone to come out the same day on a weekend and I appreciated his professionalism and patience.

Fred was responsive (same day), courteous and professional, got to work immediately and was quick and efficient. He gave me thoughtful advice as well regarding getting maximum life out of my appliances-I solicited him on replacing my water heater vs the other way around. Pricing was very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Fred came right after a snowstorm, made it before the plow did! He promptly fixed the pinhole leak and was very polite and reasonable. After dealing with the larger chains of plumbers, I am thrilled to find someone who values customer service and was very prompt.

We contacted Fred on Sunday, after our kitchen drain pipe totally clogged. He arranged to come to our home the very next day. The clogged line was original to the house and needed to be replaced entirely. Fred figured out how to reroute the new pipe to avoid having to tear up flooring, saving us added expense. What impressed us most is that he stayed with this project until it was finished, even though it meant a few hours of unscheduled labor. We had anticipated only a consultation,, since it was the busy holiday season; but we were relieved and grateful that he was committed to solving the problem right then. Fred is knowledgable, professional, creative, and incredibly nice. Not only did he solve the problem, but he and his assistant made sure that the very messy work space was completely clean when they left. We couldn't be happier with the service and will definitely use this company again.

The day after Christmas, I called Fred because our kitchen sinks (connected to our dishwasher) was completely backed up and it was impossible for us to clean up from the festivities! An hour after I called, he was here! He quickly took care of snaking the sinks, went 50 feet down the line to make sure all blockages were clear, then walked us through how the plumbing was set up and gave us tips on avoiding future blockages. Definitely someone we'll come back to if we have future plumbing needs.

Fred was very professional. I called at 7 am and he came at 10 am the same day. Detected problem fast, fixed it and gave different advices how to avoid this problem in a future. I would use him again in a future if any needs.

We had an excellent experience with this plumber. I intend to call him for all of our plumbing needs in the future. Besides the fact that he is really nice, he does quality work efficiently. He explained everything to me for each of our plumbing issues and showed me what was wrong in each case. Then after he completed the work, he made sure that I had the opportunity to test it and see that everything was now okay. What I also really like about this plumber was that he was willing to give advice. We were contemplating getting a back-up pump installed and he advised us against it (even though he would have been the one who could have benefited financially from us installing one). He also gave us some "do-it-yourself" advise about the drainage system in our backyard. I can't say enough good things about both of our experiences with this plumber. We will be calling him for our plumbing issues!

We had a variety of plumbing issues in our home, the most significant of which was that the faucet in our master bath was dripping. The problems were worsening, and we needed them taken care of. We contacted Fred, who was able to come the very next morning. He assessed the issues that we were having, and sat down with me to discuss options and pricing. He provided me with his recommendations, and answered all questions I had. He performed the work efficiently and within the budget he had quoted. He also identified potential problems we might face in the future with respect to pinhole leaks, and recommended that we get that issue taken care of before it becomes a big problem. Fred was courteous and professional, and I will not hesitate to use him again.

After I called numerous places for someone to assist me with a plumbing issue (which no one could come out until three days later), I called Fred & Son. The office scheduled me for the evening and Fred arrived right on time. He addressed the problem and also found another issue that the home inspector did not see. My husband and I were very pleased with Fred's work. On Saturday morning, I found my basement partially flooded and called Fred & Son. I left a voicemail and he got back to me within the next hour. He promptly came over to my house and located the source of the problem. He delivered same day service and for that I am truly grateful. Of all the service people I have met over the years, I can say that Fred is a class act. He is friendly, honest, and extremely knowledgeable about his trade. Hopefully, I will not have another plumbing issue in the near future, but even if I do, I know that I can have the problem resolved promptly.

On a Friday night I did a wash and when the washing machine drained the downstairs toilet started overflowing. I stopped the wash and shut down the water to the toilet...and immediately went to Angie's to make a list for the next morning. I made calls to many available plumbers the next morning....most went to voice-mail. Fred answered his phone, and even though on a job told me he could come by around 3PM.....at 3pm he arrived with his helper. He explained to us exactly what he needed to do.....we were not surprised as we had this done before....he had to remove the toilet, rather than put the heavy snaking machine on our steep roof. We agreed. He did the work...checked to make sure everything was working and flowing..and replaced the toilet perfectly. He gave us advice as to how to prevent this from happening again. He was kind and sympathetic, knowledgable, thorough, and FAIR. Thank you FRED and Son!

It went well. He was prompt in arriving, and did the job well and fast. We appreciated that he cleaned up the tub before finishing. He answered all our questions about the drain and some more general plumbing questions.

Less than an hour after I called and left a voice mail message, Fred called back to schedule an appointment. He arrived here about 25 minutes later, and the stopped up sink drain was cleared within about 30 minutes. Fred was very friendly, courteous and professional. I would gladly call on him again.

When I called on Fred and Son Plumbing Monday morning, Fred answered the phone himself. Fortunately, he working at a job close by, and arrived in less than an hour. Promptness was much appreciated, as the kitchen sink, dishwasher, and washing machine could not be used since the previous Friday. He was very professional and carefully explained to me what he was doing. Apparently, older galvanized pipes are prone to clogs, because solid material clings and then builds up on the inside of them (sounded sort of like plaque being deposited in human arteries-- my analogy not his). Anyway, newer plastic pipes don't have this problem. After removing the clog, he recommended that we regularly use a small amount of drain cleansing chemical (didn't recommend any particular brand) for preventive maintenance on the galvanized pipes. I've lived in this house for over 35 years, but learned a lot from Fred about maintaining galvanized pipes. As mentioned above, the blockage was close to thirty feet away from the drain, and several extensions of tubing had to be added to the snaking device to reach it. Also, there had been a tiny leak below the laundry sink, which Fred noticed when running a lot of water to make sure that the drain pipe was cleaned out. He said that the piping under the sink was of poor quality and would need to be replaced eventually (estimated cost of $250), but he suggested a minor fix for now, and we could simply continue to keep a bucket under the pipe (in the laundry room) to catch the intermittent drips. He said he could install the new piping if/when we call him again to deal with some other more urgent plumbing problem. In summary, Fred was polite, tidy, and competent, and I am happy to recommend his company.

This was my first time using Fred's, but I'll certainly call them again. They were friendly, responsive and professional. The price was very reasonable and the job was well done. (I had to ask for the Angies LIst discount, but when I did Fred was quick to give it to me.) I couldn't be happier.

I called the plumber because I had a leak in my house I thought was attributable to a leaky dishwasher. When that turned out not to be the case, I called the plumbing company for an emergency appointment, as water was pooling in my basement. The company had a plumber call me promptly to arrange an appointment, and conveniently the plumber finished the job and arrived at my location within 45 minutes. The plumber promptly identified the problem and explained why he believed that was the problem. The plumber then just checked potential alternative causes nonetheless. This turned up the improper toilet installation. From here the plumber discussed the fixes and costs related to the various options with explanations. I then explain the options I would like to pursue, and the plumber began working offering to show me the issues as they could be readily observed as he was completing the repairs. I plan on using this company for all my future plumbing needs.

Called and scheduled a visit. Plumber arrived on time and did a good job finding the leak and replacing a segment of pipe. Also replaced faucet with new one which should prevent similar problem in future. Everything went well.

As described above. Fred came out on a Saturday after a morning call. Very satisfactory experience. I plan to call him for future work as needed.
