On May 16th Mr. Zavala responded by both telephone and eMail within hours of my request for an estimate of the cost to install a hardwood floor in my living room. On May 18th He arrived at my home precisely at the agreed time. William (Mr. Zavala) was both professional and personable in explaining the alternatives available for accomplishing my objectives. We agreed that the existing hall and dinning room hardwood floors should be integrated with the new flooring and refinished to produce a uniform appearance. William's estimate for the project was extremely reasonable and we agreed that the work was to be done during the first week of June, beginning at 8 AM. On Monday, June 3rd at 7:30 AM William's workmen were sitting in my drive waiting for 8:00 AM. At precisely 8:00 AM they knocked at my front door. They immediately began to remove the living room rug. William arrived shortly after 8:00 AM and called my attention to a problem. For reasons known only to the original builder of my home, the under flooring of the hall and dinning room are one half inch lower than the under flooring of the living room. It was therefore not possible to integrate existing and new hardwood floors without replacing the living room under flooring with thinner plywood. William and I agreed that this was too difficult and costly. Instead he would install a transition between the two floor levels and refinish all floors alike. To contain the sawdust created by sanding the floors, passageways to other areas of the house were closed off by plastic sheeting. All light fictures and window shades were also covered with plastic. The installation of the new flooring, sanding and staining of all floors was accomplished in the first day. On the second day William and his team arrived promptly at 8:00 AM and completed the first coat of polyurathane finish by 11:00 AM. William asked if they could return about 5:00 PM to apply the second coat of polyurathane. I agreed and the second coat was completed by 7:00 PM. The third and final coat of polyurathane was completed the following morning. The entire job was accomplished one day faster than estimated and with a minimum of disturbance considering the nature of the work.

I do home improvements for a living and also buy old homes, fix them up, then sell them for a profit. When ever I need work done to hardwood floors I always call William at Zavala's Floors. William is always available for my calls to help me out. His response is immediate, usually in a few minutes or less. In this situation I was trying to rent a property with a very tight deadline and I needed the hardwoods refinished in less than a weeks time. William and Zavala's Floors were at the house the next day sanding and refinishing all 650 square feet. The floors looked Great! as usual when Zavala's Floors is hired by me. The price was unbeatable at $1200 and William also hauled away some unwanted furniture for no charge. The house rented after one day thanks to the beautiful hardwoods which the renter gushed about when inspecting the property. I have known and used William and Zavala's floors for 5 years and he has always guaranteed his work and left me a very happy repeat customer. William is a pleasant, honest hardworking craftsman that will do his best every time to make sure the customer is completely satisfied. I have one friend that had his entire houses converted to site-sanded Brazilian Cherry hardwoods by Zavala's Floors because the quality and price was cheaper than carpet. His house is the envy of the neighborhood in Ellicott City, MD.

The repair included sanding the flooring back down to bare wood and re-staining and sealing the wood flooring. Zavala Flooring completely sealed the kitchen area from the rest of the house to prevent dust. Within the kitchen, without being asked, they completely sealed the new kitchen cabinets and and appliances with plastic so the the dust and dirt from the job would not affect the new kitchen. As a part of the project, Mr. Zavala recommended an additional coat of finish on the adjacent dining room flooring so the kitchen and dining room would match perfectly. This he did at no additional cost . He had done the dining room flooring a year or so earlier and wanted to be sure the job was done to his level of quality.

The project required the complete demolition and haul away of all of the flooring on the first and second floors of the home. We wanted the work done after our close on the purchase but prior to move in so schedule was critical. In addition, there were some areas that required repair to the sub-flooring due to termite damage that was not visible. Mr. Zavala and his team made sure we were aware of the different options to repair the areas, gave us a very reasonable change order to make the repairs and did so without affecting the overall schedule. We have had numerous compliments on the floors and the quality of the workmanship.
