From my first call to Willis Builders to the completion of the job every interaction was professional, competent and of high quality. I had a week of downtime during a job change and decided to address some very overdue home maintenance. A call to Willis led to a followup and estimate from Luis the onsite manager. Luis was very easy to communicate with right from the start. He quickly understood that I was looking for a quality job that would address issues we could see and any additional items found when the rotten wood was removed. I also had a broken back gate that would have been an issue for accessing the back of my home. Luis suggested that he could fix the gate as the first item on the list. It seems like a small item - but the gate had been a sore point with other handymen. It was not an issue for this team at all. Luis and his team were punctual, professional and respectful. There were no surprises or disappointments with the job or the bill. Several of my neighbors have commented on the quality of the job and the quality of the team. I will call Willis again and recommend them highly.

My experience was fine. They initially lost my paper work so they were not going to come. I had to talk to the head of the company to get something scheduled and to have them honor the coupon. Once something was scheduled, they came on time and the work was fine.

Willis Builders was very prompt when I purchased in October. I told them this would be for work to be done in April. They were courteous and asked me to call back when the work was closer. When I did there was no answer. I emailed and did not get an answer. I called a few times then contacted Angies list. They offered to contact them or find another provider and I agreed. Willis Builders emailed me about a week later. When I called, there was still an issue with the phone. I figured it was best to call it a day with this one and get a refund. I have no animosity, just feel sometimes things happen for a reason and its best to cut your losses. Thanks....

Thanks for your review . We have our website at [hyperlink removed] which has the phone number to our office. We work 9-5 and get back all the calls. We also have an email that we respond to 16 hours a day. My office did contact you twice and responded to your emails. We do not have any phone call records. Im wondering if you got a phone number from a different source or if you had called my cell phone. On my cell phonem I ask clients to send an email so I can serve them better. Im very sorry we didn't connect.

We had hired Willis Builders for a bathroom remodeling project recently. We were so impressed with the work of Aloisio and Alencar, that we hired Aloisio for this small project of flipping the closet from the guest bedroom into the master bedroom. The master bedroom already had a closet, but that was not enough for two people. The guest bedroom closet was on the same wall, just on the other side. Aloisio took care to keep the dust to a minimum, by installing dust barriers. It worked very well. He took care in removing the closet door, shelving and old trim carefully so that he could reuse as much as possible. We are very pleased with this home improvement project as we no longer have to keep our clothes in two separate rooms.

We contacted with Willis Builders Inc. for a bathroom remodel project. Matthew Willis came to the give us an estimate and went over the details of the work that would be needed to be done. He was thorough with the details about the project and went through an itemized list of major materials. Upon comparing their quote with several others, we contracted with Willis Builders for a "Labor only" project. Matthew introduced us to Alencar and Aloisio who were assigned to carry out the project. Matthew estimated the project to be completed in about 4 weeks. On the first day Aloisio showed up, bright and early. He took out about a third of the bathroom in one day. He tried to keep the dust to a minimum, but when we came home later that evening, it was everywhere. Matthew had warned us of "some dust", but some is a major understatement. Although Aloisio tried to cover up the relevant areas with plastic to avoid dust from settling everywhere, it was insufficient. So that evening, we took charge of covering things up and covered up every thing we could. Days two and three saw more demolition action. The 300 lb pink cast iron tub met the dump site alongside the matching pink toilet and blue vanity. The floor was gutted, revealing the pipes and joists and cinder-block wall. Alencar then showed on day four to start the rebuilding. He was meticulous in doing the framing of the exterior wall and the floor. Following few days things started to fall in place. Along with snow, which forced a vacation day. While the project was ongoing, we decided that it would probably be a good time to replace the 60 year old cast iron/galvanized steel plumbing pipes that go in and out of the bathroom. So that was an unforeseen additional mini-project. Every passing day we saw things progress and three weeks later (still a week earlier than schedule) the bathroom was open for business. The project went smoothly and we are very happy with the project. The new bathroom looks beautiful. Now for a few negatives: We would have liked to have had more time in selecting the different parts such as the faucets, hardware, vanity etc, but since the project started immediately after signing the contract (part of the deal to ensure the low price) we felt rushed. In the end we found everything, but if we had more time, we could have researched more. The contractors took some measures to control the dust and take care of the other parts of the house, but we wish more had been done to control the dust, which spread throughout the house. We contracted on labor only, but we relied on the contractors to bill us for many of the materials they used for the project. Unfortunately, we underestimated how much the materials such as plywood, pipes, wiring, mold resistant drywall, nails, etc etc would add up to. Overall, though, we were pleased with the quality and value of the work.
Description of Work: Completely gut the original 1951 guest bathroom down to the floor joists and put in new sub-floor, tub, toilet, vanity, fan, shower light, vanity light, floor tiles, tiles around the the tub to the ceiling, paint the walls. They also replaced the original plumbing with new.

After interviewing several contractors, we loved Willis Builders because Matt was kind, honest, responsive and knowledgeable. He is the only contractor I've interacted with that has responded me via email within a day, sometimes within the hour. With others I am always waiting for days before someone contacts me back. His availability and making us feel like our project was special to them was a major reason why we wanted to work with them. Originally, we had quoted the basement (minus materials and extra labor) originally at 18K, but there was a lot of things that came up that added to our overall cost. Please be aware that when you are considering a major project like a kitchen or basement reno, to really come up with a full list of everything you want. If you make changes along the way, you could be adding on hourly labor costs that can add up very, very quickly. Our work team was under Leo, who was also great to work with -- and he would keep us updated daily on any discoveries or decisions. One major discovery was that there was a crack in our foundation. Had they not demo'd and open up the walls, we would have risked a major problem with our house down the line. They repaired it hourly on top of our regular project scope. We also decided later we wanted our walls insulated, so that also added on costs. With that in mind, for things like that, plan ahead so you can get it into the original contract. After those fixes and materials, our total came to 40K. Things we appreciated... -They arrive on time daily and hardly disrupt your regular routines. -Like a type of material or paint? Give them the info and they'll get it for you. -Want something specially done like granite or backsplashing? They have plenty of contacts to refer you to -- we've went with several, such as carpeting and granite, and they were also wonderful to work with. -Matt stopping by occasionally to check in on projects -Cleanliness -- they will plastic the workspace and clean up tools DAILY -Attention to detail. Don't do daily walkthroughs and wonder why xyz isn't done. We didn't have to open our mouthes and things were fixed on their own. They catch those things. While the other contractors gave us bottom line final prices, I don't think I would have gotten the same service and confidence in our basement being a dream one. So, we were willing to pay more with Willis, but the only downside is that you need to really plan a range and talk to Matt ahead of time to gauge how much "extra" it will cost in addition to your contract. If you have that planned out, then you will walk into it with less of a sticker shock. PS: Our secret room rocks.

Willis was very prompt in responding to my request for an estimate and very punctual in coming to the site, even during a snowstorm. Matt Willis did a professional job of estimating, based on comparison to insurance estimates, and he was a great representative of the company - very courteous and engaging. He communicated thoroughly about what they would do and what it would cost. The policy is for the customer to pay them back for materials costs incurred, based on a Home Depot invoice. The estimate did not include one aspect of the work that the insurance estimate had included: repair of ceiling damage. Matt noted that the ceiling didn't appear damaged from the outside, but if water damage was found when the roof came off, the cost would be hourly, plus materials. We signed a contract on the spot, based on good reviews on Angie's list, a decent price, and the comparison with other contractors and estimators (all negative experiences: no-shows, poor estimating, concerns about reliability). Our project was scheduled promptly, and while it started a day late, the pace of the work was excellent. Giovanni, the project leader, kept up excellent communication with us throughout, and he was pleasant, professional, and made sensible cost-control suggestions, such as painting minor dents in the gutters rather than replacing them. Carpenter/roofer Umberto worked very hard and quickly, and we were very pleased with the results. However, the ceiling did turn out to be damaged, and the hourly costs were higher proportionately than the other parts of the project. This was the only aspect of the project in which two workers were assigned for the whole day (why I rated B for cost). Based on our experience I would gladly recommend this company to friends, and we will certainly contact them with future needs.
Description of Work: Repaired a porch and loveseat damaged by a lightening strike. Porch repair included roof, siding, gutters, screens, ceilings, related carpentry and painting. Loveseat repair was replacing damaged parts of the wooden structure.
Overall, we were extremely pleased with this company. Rob Morris came out initially and spent a lot of time going over the planned work that we needed done. It is clear that he knows how to run a business. We needed to have our main stairway rebuilt, as well as some other jobs (e.g., kitchen cabinets painted, deck stained, sliding door installed, etc...) in order to list our home for sale. He offered very thoughtful suggestions and made efforts to keep the cost down given our situation. The work began on time. At one point we had a question about the initial progress, and Rob and his team could not have been more responsive. Leo was our on-site project manager and was also very easy to work with and kept us abreast of how things were progressing. The work was finished right on schedule, the cost was exactly where we had expected it to be, and we were incredibly pleased with the quality of the finished product. We would absolutely recommend Willis Builders to anyone!

We were satisfied with their services to the extent that we are going to use them again. We were satisfied with the work that they did, and the manner in which they performed it. We were quite pleased with them.
Description of Work: We used Willis Builders Inc. They did a trim replacement on the house.
Matt Willis provided a written estimate of the job, approximately 50% of the final cost, based on our minimal plan to renovate the existing space. Matt responded promptly to emails during the entire process, and consulted with us on issues as they arose. As soon as the old paneling and ceilings were removed, we wanted the job expanded to correct and remmediate the cinderblock walls (evidence of water damage); remove old framing and construct new 2x4 framing for the walls; install Roxul insulation to exterior walls; remove old and install new vinyl flooring; wrap all heating ducts throughout the basement; change the plumbing in our laundry room including a new sink; and add insulation to a crawl space. The reason that we expanded the task was our confidence in the two men working daily at our home - Alencar and Aloisio. We valued their professional knowledge and attitude ('from your vision to our hands"), so we felt the added cost was money well spent. Each day that either Alencar and/or Aloisio worked on tasks outside the original contract, they showed us what they had done, and we initialed a worksheet acknowledging and accounting for those hours. Both men showed up regularly, or contacted us when they were unable to come (lots of snow this winter). They worked from late January to March, approximately 6 weeks. They had a lockbox for admission to the work area, and they used adequate plastic to seal off and confine the dust to their work area. They cleaned up at the end of each day, leaving the site ready for work the next day. Because we kept a refrigerator and freezer in the basement during the renovation process, we needed to access the area regularly, and observed what had been done each day. While this describes the essential bare bones of the process, there is a lot of detail that does not convey in this description. The final product is a stunningly beautiful and highly functional bathroom with a glass door, porcelain ceramic shower and floor where there had been a non-working, 1960-vintage bathroom. The playroom and hall are now very bright and comfortable spaces, very different in character from the previous areas. We have experienced major renovations of our home before, but never with the plan that we will re-hire the same men to tackle another job. We will re-hire Alencar and Aloisio for future projects in our home due to their competence, professional attitude, and willingness to discuss options and details with us.
Description of Work: Renovate a basement bathroom, hallway and 20x13 playroom.
All aspects of the job were well planned and executed. The lead mechanic in the job, Rodrigo Fleitas, was remarkable in his care, concern, remarkable craftsmanship and cooperation. Matt Willis is a consummate individual with great attention to detail. He has the ability to plan the job to bypass and resolve problem areas before they are incurred. He goes out of his way to ensure the customer is satisfied and the job is completed to the customer?s 100% satisfaction.
Description of Work: Willis Builders refurbished our laundry room. They installed drywall, a dropped ceiling, lighting, built two walled in enclosures as large walk-in closets. Installed wall and base cabinets, a utility sink, the granite top for sink area, enclosed all plumbing, installed special vent doors in wall in front of the furnace and the hot water heater, installed new ceramic tile flooring and installed a new exterior door.

Giovanny did a great job coordinating all the work. He gave us a list of materials so that they didn't spend time buying them and it helped us keep the cost down. I wanted to do the finish work for the kitchen myself and have the builder do the door and window install. I also handled the permits and inspections. They were flexible with working with me while I handled the other parts of the renovation. It was great to have them do the more difficult parts of the renovation and the deal turned out to be about the right amount of hours. The builders worked very hard and quickly; they were able to do most of the wall rebuild in one day.
Description of Work: We got the deal for 40 hours. We were renovating our kitchen and rebuilt an exterior wall to change the location of a door and window. They also removed an interior wall and finished the siding.

The working crew was supervisor Leo Pereira, plus Juan Lumbi, Jesus Rozales, and Jesus Rozales Junior. They all showed great craftsmanship and knowledge of what needed to be done. The work required tearing out wallboard to identify wood damaged by the termites, installing temporary support for the ceiling while tearing out three damaged walls and restoring them, removing seven floor joists and replacing them, rebuilding the floors, reinstalling furnace vents, reinstalling electrical plugs, and painting the new walls. I was particularly impressed by the fine job they did dismantling our beautiful dining room wall cabinets, replacing the damaged wall behind them, and restoring the cabinets. This required some additional wood because the new wall was not exactly like the old wall. They brought in new wood which they used to fill gaps between cabinets and wall, staining the new wood to match. This company understands the need for good communication with the customers. I always got quick responses to my telephone calls and emailed questions. Leo was very helpful in answering questions and suggesting ways to fix things, and the rest of the crew was always friendly and cooperative. They installed a drainage system to solve the problem of water leaks in the wall that attracted the termites. This required digging a trench and installing drainage pipe away from the house. They put in stone steps over the dirt, leaving an attractive path from the carport to the rear of the house. I was also impressed by the fact that at the end of each day, the crew put away their tools and cleaned the work area before leaving. It is a small thing, but it symbolizes their dedication to doing their work well. We liked their initial work so well that we had them do additional work fixing up the driveway area, and strengthening some rusty pillars supporting the rear of the house. That required digging down to the foundations, bringing in a welder to install new pipe over the existing pillars, and filling the holes and restoring the flagstone patio around the pillars. They also did some outdoor painting for us. We received excellent service from Willis Builders, Inc., and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We had substantial termite damage to our house. Matthew Willis talked us through the process of discovering where the termites had spread, giving us an initial exploration bid followed by a satisfactory hourly rate for making repairs. In the end, they demolished and rebuilt the north wall of the house, an inner wall separating two rooms, the flooring of two rooms, and they strengthened the roof joists and trestles.

The quality of their work was excellent. The responsiveness was not satisfactory. In once case the guy did not show up for one of our appointments and he told me we had agreed on a different day, but I could not prove anything. Several times that particular guy did not get back to me and I would leave messages on his cell phone voice mail. After I finally reached him he gave me a lot of excuses so the only thing I did not like about this project was the communication.

We purchased 40 hours of work from the company through Angie's List. The company called immediately and set up a date to review the work. Luis from the company called immediately and set up a date to review the work. Luis from the company came over on time, reviewed the list of work, and set up a time to do the work. Luis returned on the last day to correct a few issues we had found with the initial work by his crew.

Giovanni Gomez' crew from WillisBuilders showed up on time and performed the work according to agreement. Giovanni went with me to Home Depot to select shower door and ceiling tiles. He rented a truck to transport the materials as our cars were not big enough to transport everything in one trip. I liked his initiative in suggesting this especially since it saved me a couple of extra trips and the cost was under $35. The reason I did not rate everything "A" was because in the beginning my calls to Willis Builders were not returned promptly .

Admittedly we had 4-5 contractors come through our almost-purchased home at the same time, on a weekend, over the holidays so it wasn't an ideal setting. Understandably, Vern was running late for the appointment but did text me and let me know. I was bummed to not get a quote from Willis Builders after spending a good 45 minutes walking through the property and taking measurements. I suspect our budget didn't meet our wish list but I'd still have liked a response. It would be unfair of me to say that I wouldn't use them in future but Angie's List requires a yes or no. In this instance, I'd say no but I'd certainly ask them for a quote again as the guy they sent, Vern, seemed nice and knowledgeable.

Had to replace the front door to my townhouse due to damage it incurred during a fire in the neighbor's townhouse. Called several places for an estimate, all were in the $1500-2000 range. Had someone from Willis Builders come out - they said they could do it for less than $1000. Due to the damage, the whole frame had to be replaced. They were able to do it in one day, including painting, and installing locks and doorknobs. They even came back a few days later at no charge to adjust the fit of the door. The workers were friendly, professional, and didn't mind me watching and explained the whole process detail, which I appreciated. As for the cost, I used an Angie's List special for $319 for one day of handyman service, that added to the cost of buying the new frame, door, paint, locks, etc came to around $900. Overall I was very happy and would recommend Willis Builders.
