We just had our cabinets and granite countertops installed. It was not a positive experience from the start. The experience from the beginning had yellow flags, which we ignored because of their low advertised prices. We made an appointment to go the company "showroom floor" to speak to someone about purchasing cabinets and countertops after the company had measured our kitchen. Keep in mind we had an appointment to see someone at the company who was supposed to be a ?designer?. We walked in and a woman was in the showroom. She looked at us like we were invading the office space or that we should not be there. We told her that we had an appointment, she told us that the person we had the appointment with, was not there. She did not make any further suggestions to help us or said anything else. I then said ?well can you or someone else help us??, it was apparent to us that she was seemingly bothered by our suggestion. She then left the showroom to make a call and said if we waited, someone else would be in to assist us. After a long wait, someone came in to the store to assist us to develop a plan from the measurements they had taken and for us to get quotes on purchasing the cabinets and countertops. Despite of the company?s advertisement on Angie?s List of promotions and in their company internet website, the designer did not mention a discount or special during our sales process. Despite our request, we had to pay the quoted retail price. This is very important if you similarly have a sales contract with them; read it carefully as we did not realize nor did they inform us of everything (probably for a reason). Although we were paying for the installation, delivery of the new kitchen and paying for the disposal of the old kitchen cabinets and countertops, the installation of the appliances, any related electrical and or installation of plumbing was not included.
When the two installers arrived to install the cabinets that is when we noticed that the cabinets came in ?Ikea style cabinets?, in flat cardboard boxes delivered from China. All of the cabinets and hardware all had to be put together in their "box" cabinet form. After about an hour of their arrival and during the installation process, the installers had a verbal fight and one of them left the job. The installer that stayed at the house was visibly angry. I did try to speak up and said it was not acceptable behavior. Unfortunately, to make matters more difficult, the installer had very limited English skills and was very difficult to understand. During my questioning on what had happened, the installer said that it was a personal issue that the other guy left. I then helped with the installation, as I wanted the job to be completed and to be done as soon as well as possible. The installer that stayed said he was calling a friend, he arrived only towards the end of the installation and basically just did some minimal work. I should note that we went even further beyond what would be expected; besides helping with the installation, we kindly purchased the installer and his assistant lunch (before they had gotten into the fight and one of them left). We had done this in efforts to ensure that we would have a good job done.
During the installation, the installer said that he; 1., would not reinstall the microwave unless we paid him for it, 2., we had to buy plumbing at home depot and pay additional for the plumbing installation, 3., we had to pay extra for additional services like moving an electrical outlet box two inches. As I mentioned earlier, it is important to fully read the contract agreement because this was not disclosed to us at the time of purchase. We learned that the additional charges is a way for the installer to make more money and to pay for his assistant for the day?s labor. I called the main company to complain and the manager that I spoke to said he would speak to the installers and ask that they at least install the microwave for free, it was otherwise another $150, and he said to get the contract and to read it. It was then our fault for not having fully read the extensive contract (with very small writing).
The installer charged us what we perceive a high and unjust charge for plumbing, installation of appliances and minor electrical work. In addition, of having to pay additional for the installation, the installer said we had to go to Home Depot to purchase the plumbing pieces that he needed. I had to go to Home Depot 4 times because I kept getting the wrong parts (he was very difficult to understand, his English was very limited, he is Chinese). After finally getting the right parts had purchasing extra pieces (just in case), I also had to purchase a new refrigerator plumbing line as the old one was severed. I mentioned that I also had purchased other plumbing pieces which the installer did not use, unfortunately he kept those extra pieces. I had intended to return them to Home Depot. I only figured out that they were missing after he left.
We had hoped that at least they had done a good job with the cabinet installation. When we placed our dishes on the shelves, a few minutes later they collapsed. The installers did not put enough shelf holders when installing them (the installer that came in later to help tried to put the shelves but he clearly did not know what he was doing). We sent a note to the company but never heard a response. In addition, we had to spend hours cleaning up after everything they left our home. Therefore, despite their prices being perhaps lower than the competition, from our experience, you truly get what you pay for.
Joe was a delight to deal with, approachable and professional. Panda's showroom in Tyson's Corner is a more modest size than many other cabinet retailers: I found it much easier to make up my mind without having too many options to choose from.
So far, the quality of the cabinets seems good: three-quarter inch plywood all around for the box, and solid wood for the drawers. Their cabinets are frameless (a more European look), requiring the use of interior-mounted hinges. I doubt that Panda's hinges are as good as Blum, but they seem good so far. The drawers are on a metal undermount rail--soft-closing is an available option.
The countertop is granite, and I cannot tell the difference between varying granites: they all look like rocks to me.
I cannot say anything precise about Panda's pricing: it was subsumed into a contract with my prime for the entire kitchen job, including electric work, some carpentry, repainting, and installing a new floor.
That said, I'm incredibly happy with the price, quality, value, and approach to business that my prime has displayed--and he has yet to provide me with any bad advice or recommendations in the entire remodeling process.
Will definitely use them again and have recommended them to several friends.
These guys were great!!! I worked with Jay from the Mclean store (they own 3 stores, Rockville, Mclean, and Laurel which is the main store) but Joe the owner was involved the whole way. He came out and did all the prework measurements and stopped by at least once a day. They showed up exactly when they said they would and the whole job only took about 4 days. They tore out walls of a pantry closet, the old flooring, and a soffet. This allowed them to lay a whole new floor (under all the cabinets and appliances), install much larger cabinets on the wall, and add cabintes on the floor as well as installing a large floor to ceiling pantry cabinet. This also gave us much more counter space. They moved outlets, did all the plumbing and electrical work as needed. When they were finished, they left the place immaculate. Everything was perfect!! The cabinets are good quality, and the granite is beautiful, We went with an 8" granite back splash all around. It looks great!
They addressed all of our requests, and made some good suggestions along the way. And the price? for everything they did it was like half of all the other quotes we got.At the end, I went through and inspected everything. All the joints and cabinet doors are even, care was taken in all of the installation.
During my inspection, I found a tiny leak at the compression fitting for the icemaker filter...I mentioned this to Joe, and before I new it, his guys were back fixing it.
I highly reccomend these guys
