It went okay.

We first hired Joe and Sylvia several years ago after some construction left our yard a giant wasteland of mud and dirt. We specifically hired them to deal with some drainage issues and build a patio at the front door. For drainage, Joe and crew built some timber retaining walls, regraded around the new garage and the side yard, installed drains around the new foundation, took all downspouts to underground pipes and took those downslope to daylight. The roughly 20x20 patio is made with paving stones and required significant cutting and fitting at the edges and borders. A new "column" was built at the front door to hide a downspout which connected to underground pipe; the patio was built on top of this. Essentially, Joe and crew redid everything that has to do with handling rainwater runoff, and we really needed it. That's the stuff I can't really see, but am really glad I have. The stuff I can see is simply gorgeous. The patio is simply beautiful and we use it a lot more than I thought we would. Initially, we thought we were getting the patio and some planting beds around it, but were amazed to see the scope of the beds that ultimately were established. They also put down 2 inches of topsoil and reseeded the ruined front yard, and installed some low-voltage lighting. Joe and Sylvia are creative and have a good eye for combining plants in the beds. They also put in a little patio/walkway between the existing back deck and the new garage. Joe didn't like the way the deck was built at the junction of deck and patio, explained to me what the problem was, and it made a lot of sense to me. So, he wound up putting some longer steps in, and consequently it is now safer and much better looking. All in all, this was a lot of landscaping. I now have peace of mind that the house won't flood--we did have some issues with a damp crawl space due to the fact that the lot slopes into the front of the house and not away from it. This is no longer the case, and in my view the drainage work was just not optional. The patio and plantings are the icing on the cake. Over the years we've had to spend some money bringing our 70+ year old house up to date. I can honestly say that none of our expenditures bring me more joy than the landscaping. It is an absolute joy to sit on the front patio when the weather permits and watch the world go by. There are lots of businesses out there that hold themselves out as landscapers. Most of them are gardeners. Mowing, mulching, and cleaning is gardening and nearly anyone can do it. Landscaping is a bit more involved than that and includes regrading, devising and installing drainage devices, construction of decks and hardscaping, etc. Joe, Sylvia, and crew can do it all and have a very good eye for structures, plants, colors, and layouts. Whether you need a yard cleanup or a significant backyard makeover, I don't think you'll be disappointed with Mulberry Bush.

When I called, Joe answered the phone and he was available to come in for an estimate right away. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and offered additional work that was needed anyway at really reasonable price, so I took the offer. The crew came on time, and did an excellent pruning job (though I will see the true verdict later...), the yard looks so much better now! They even put our fertilizer (though I had to remind) and mulch that were just sitting on the yard to a good use. The only little annoyance was that the crew apparently just throw away our old trellis and solar path lights (which were basically broken). Although they were basically "junk", they still should have asked us first. But overall, they did a good job.

I was initially pleased, because the company was very responsive and was able to fit me into the schedule right away. The owner met me at my house and spent at least an hour walking around the yard discussing both my immediate needs and long-term plans. He seemed to be very knowledgeable about plants and trees. I was very clear with priorities -- some things needed to be done right away and some things could wait until the fall. He came back with his staff the next day and the work seemed satisfactory and professional. However, after the second day I arrived home from work to find that he had severely cut back one of my trees that I had never asked him to prune. When I asked him why he did that he told me that my husband had asked him to do it when he got home before I did. When I asked him why, after I had spent so much time discussing the details of the job with him, that he did not call me first, he replied "Because he's your husband -- you're married to him." This is the reason why I will never use this company again. I am surprised that this degree of chauvinism still exists today.

Came on the day promised, though just a slight bit late, excellent work; was more than could be finished in one day and they came back another to finish. Very polite and professional workers, took pride in doing a good job and did one.

They were very responsive. They got me the quote quickly. I just felt that the quote was too high for the work I was having done. I will not use this company again in the future.

Joe and his crew always do a great job and are extremely professional and courteous. Design concepts are clean, natural, and lovely...and they always add a few nice unexpected touches! This time the tree work made an unexpected but enormous difference!! They have also done a lot of (apparently freebie) work to improve our neighborhood - e.g. cleaning up unattended overgrown property along railroad tracks nearby. I highly recommend them!!

I found the service through Angies list yesterday and gave them a call. I was delighted that the owner actually answered the phone right away. He came over today when he said he would with a truck and two hard working men. They did an excellent, efficient job. I am extremely pleased. The price was very reasonable given the work done.

Overall it was a good experience and I look forward to having our leaves and gutters taken care of every year by Mulberry Bush. The workers were sure to ask me if the placement of leaves for county pick up was OK and not hampering access to our vehicles. When our budget permits Mulberry Bush will be first on our list to contact regarding the renovation of our backyard.

Mulberry Bush is located within my neighborhood. I have hired their services on several occasions. For the leaf removal job, the crew arrived on time and got the job done fast and efficiently. The crew was courteous even though my dog was not being polite. I recommend their services not only because they do a good job at a fair price, they give so much back to the community in which they live. Supporting local businesses is important to my family and Mulberry Bush is deserving of our continued business.
