The guys that did the services worked very, very hard at the task at hand and the task was tremendous. My uncle had allowed his property to deteriorate, weeds as high as his home! Also there was ivy semi-covering the windows that had to be removed and that is not an easy task for the 5 hours the guys spent there. I was a bit taken aback that they didn't bring a lawnmower and thankfully my uncle had one available. Also they did alot of work by hand tools and thought an edger might have made their job easier. But after my husband and I spent several days cutting and bagging the weeds the guys had left for us (we opted not to have them taken away), we realized how much the guys had really done and how much we appreciated their hard work!
Description of Work: My uncle had allowed his property to deteriorate, weeds as high as his home! Also there was ivy semi-covering the windows that had to be removed along with weeds along the fence line (on both sides). Ivy that was on the link fence had to be removed. There were rose bushes that had gotten out of control and had to be removed.

This was a very pleasent experiece. Steve was incredibly responsive. After I bought the deal, he called immediately to find a time when his crew could perform the work. There were a few scheduling hicups, but Steve was in touch with me to give me an update and let me know exactly when the crew would be over to perform the work. I would use them again!
Description of Work: I had been overseas for work for 6 months and came home to a yard overgrown by ivy. Steve and his team had a mess to deal with and they did an excellent job.

I discussed work to be done with the owner and he scheduled me for a week or two away Monday morning at 9am. He then came over on Sunday afternoon (he called first) to go over the work to be done. I had written out a list of what I would like done and the prioritized the list and we went over the work and walked around my small property for about 20 min. He then confirmed they would be back the next morning as agreed. He then called on Monday at 10 am to tell me they would not be there until 4 pm because he wanted to do the pruning himself. He suggested that I did not have to be there to "supervise", but I wanted to be there when they were here and make sure what I wanted was done. He just seemed unorganized to me. He offered that to get a refund and I accepted. What a waste of time.

Horrible!! When you do the specials, your credit card is charged immediately, and then the company, has leverage over you and can jerk you around. In my opinion, they are using your site to get business and they have not been vetted.
Description of Work: I took advantage of your quick deals with the company to do some general yard clean up as well as planting. It first took them several weeks after I sign up to respond to my home. When the owner did come out I did not get an estimate but was promised one the following day are two. I had to contact them again by phone, I was told that because of the special they were backed up and could not get to me, even though I signed early on. I was just about at the point of cancelling, if fact I contacted your offices, when they showed up to my house. Almost immediately, I was told that it would cost me extra, I asked for price quotes, and was told that it would cost me $1000.00 to $3000.00 do my job. I asked them to clean the back planter box in the back yard since the front did not require much cleaning. They stared in the front yard, while doing the work, they snapped my electrical fence line, which was clearly marked with flags. By this point, I was just ready for them to leave my house. I later had the entire job done for $800.00 with some one else.

Satisfactory. Although had told representative when making appt what needed to be done. Received a appt verification phone call and had to explain again what we wanted to have done to yard. They didn't have any information frm when appt was originally made. Late arrival to our house to start work and then didn't know what we wanted to have done.

The company came out when scheduled but were very rushed due to the amount of work generated by their Angie's list coupon. The coupon specifically included lawn aeration, which was the main reason I bought it. He didn't want to do it but we agreed he could cut the cleanup work short to give him time and money to come back and do the aeration. He never did it.

Part of the Big Deal was a free estimate on landscaping work. The owner and his partner did come out for the consult, and I described my thoughts on what could be done to transform the yard, but they never got back to me with a final proposal or estimate. The owner even called a month or two later to see if I'd be interested in doing more work - and I said I MIT be, but I'd never received the estimate. He apologized...but I still haven't seen an estimate, or heard any additional follow-up.
Description of Work: Purchased a Big Deal for a couple hours of yard work...it was a little complicated to schedule, it the guys who showed up did a super job - weeded a large area that was COVERED with weeds and even did edging for the whole back yard. Looked great!

The crew arrived and got immediately to work. The crew chief left to get mulch while the other two weeded. In all, it took three hours for them to complete the job.
Description of Work: Weeding and mulching. The crew cut in a sharp edge to three large flower beds, removed all weeds, leaves and debris, spread fertilizer and a weed inhibitor, then mulched. All the debris was taken to a compost pile I have on the property.

Not a good fit for us so we requested a refund. I am pretty organic and they seemed to lean more toward chemical applications. The owner offered many suggestions but they involved a huge expansion of the scope of work (and more $$ investment). We don't live in a very affluent neighborhood so I think we seemed like a poor investment for their time.
Description of Work: We met with the owner and his designer to discuss some simple work in our yard that we hoped to accomplish using one of the Angie's List Deals. I needed some flower beds expanded and cleaned up.

Not enough to report since the work was never begun. I only met the owner and discussed the work, but we never got to the business stage.
Description of Work: The company seems quite nice, and they were doing work on my street that looks beautiful. However, they were overwhelmed with responses to the Big Deal they offered in March (I bought one), and they just weren't able to handle my small job. They were very kind and prompt about refunding my money, though. I think Mulberry Bush is a good company when business isn't crazy. Personally, however, I will never buy a Big Deal for any company again... I'd rather choose a well-rated company that isn't in the middle of offering a special. It's the Groupon syndrome... they get swamped with orders. Everyone was polite, however, and gracious. The system makes me put in a grade, so I'll go with A because they did not hassle me one bit on the refund.

Joe Gibbs was supposed to arrive with the team (as was confirmed during the appointment set up) to go over landscaping options, since the deal included a 30 minute consult. The owner did not show up with the team, nor was I ever called and told he wouldn't show up. When I asked the men that showed up where the owner was, they didn't know. Joe never phoned back to reschedule. I left a msg to re-set up the appointment and my call was never returned. Since Joe never showed up, I reviewed the work to be done with who I thought was the replacement supervisor. It turns out that he in fact was supposed to be one of the guys working. There was no of urgency from this guy to start work. After about 30 minutes I asked when the 4th worker was going to show up and that is when I found out it was him. By then we were idly chatting about things in general. The rest of the team work effort made up for this guy, but it did bother me a bit since I was paying for man hours of labor. My sense was that Mulberry was overwhelmed by the Angie's List deal. Scheduling seemed problematic and the breakdowns in communications put a negative spin on the interaction. Plus I never got the consult which was part of the deal. If Joe had showed up, we would have likely used them for our landscape improvements. If I was just rating the work done by the team that showed up Mulberry would have gotten an A or B.

As noted above, start to finish, this was one of my best home improvement experiences.
Description of Work: Mulberry Bush completely re-did my landscaping: rebuilt fences, paved my walkways, and redesigned my gardens -- I had several problem areas, in addition to needing a low maintenance plan. I've worked with them over the years and now have a garden that I enjoy working in, a back yard that is the envy of my friends (they call it the "California escape", and a front stair and pathway that welcomes visitors. Everyone compliments me on the continuing march of blooms that decorate my yard all growing season. Sylvia took the time to listen to what I wanted, worked with my examples, made great suggestions and overall transformed my yard. All of their team were polite, respectful, and did an extremely professional job. I couldn't be happier. They may be a little pricier, but they are definitely worth it. (Note: I did not disclose what I spent, because we've worked together over the years and I am not willing to share my expenses on a public site). Many of my neighbors have enlisted their services as well. I haven't seen hardscaping that looked better in the Washington area. Their fences have stood up to some very rough abuse my the neighbors. And their softscape design is just charming. If you are interested in a big project, I recommend thinking about it the winter before -- they get very busy during the spring.

I purchased the $199 for 4 hours coupon. A couple of weeks later I called to set up an appointment. I explained that my mother (who dearly loved her garden) had died earlier in the year and we were readying the house in DC for sale. Joe Gibbs, owner, told me that he had stopped the coupon a few weeks prior but because I bought it before I called, he would honor it. He asked how much I could spend, I said no more than $1000. He said he would come out and look at the place to give me an estimate. Being a novice at home repairs and landscaping (never owned a house) I was hoping that an Angie's List supplier would be reliable. Joe came the next day and looked around the yard. When I said that had reviewed my budget and didn't want to spend more than $800 he said that he needed to have $1000 in addition to the coupon to do the job. Stuck, I wanted the beds cleaned up and mulched and the hedges trimmed. The flower beds were outlined with bricks and the vegetable beds outlined with wine bottles. He agreed to clean up the beds and mulch them, remove shrubs as needed and trim hedges, remove a dead stump (and would kill the bees in it), trim the fig tree and cut the grass and plant some flowers by the steps leading to the sidewalk. He asked me to make the $500 deposit check out to him, not the business (why?). The low maintenance drought resistant flowers would be planted on the last day so they would look good for the listing. I wanted them because no one is living at the house. Work did begin immediately but was not completed as promised. The 3-man crew came out that day and started trimming hedges and removing shrubs and removing bricks. Joe asked me for bags in which to put the yard waste. The mulch was delivered later in the process but looked as if it had been left over with banana peel, work gloves and old leaves that did not come from the yard. The crew left one of the full bags out front which is not allowed in DC, yard waste is picked up with the regular trash. The bricks were placed in a huge pile in a corner of the yard instead of being removed as asked, I had to move them. The beds were not properly weeded before they were mulched and then only partially mulched. The stump was dead - Joe just pushed it over, however, he was supposed to bring bee killer so that the stump could be removed. The work was to scheduled continue over a couple of days with the last day scheduled for the Tuesday before the house was listed. The appointed Tuesday came, I had taken the day off so that I could be at the house. No one showed during the morning and when early afternoon arrived, after being unable to reach Joe, I called the office frantic to find out where the crew was because the house was supposed to be listed the next day and the realtor would be coming Wednesday to take pictures. Joe’s partner, Sylvia answered the phone and mentioned that she had been to the house to determine what type of flowers to plant and said that she thought the crew had done a good job for 4 hours work. When I complained that it was supposed to be a (additional) $1000 she seemed surprised. Apparently she thought it was a coupon job. Sylvia indicated that she would contact Joe. The crew finally showed up around 2 PM and said that Joe told them to cut the grass and seed the three bald spots and put hay over them. They didn’t know that they were supposed to finish the beds and mulch them, however there was no mulch. I called Joe a few times as did the crew with no answer. The bees in the stump weren’t dead (nothing had been applied), fortunately the guys had something to kill them so they could haul it away. They did what they could but with no mulch and no flowers, they could not finish the job. Joe never did show. Finally caught up with Joe that night, he was unfazed that the job was not completed as promised saying “You only need a little mulch and some flowers” with no apology for my wasted day. Joe and Sylvia showed up with crew on Wednesday; fortunately my sister was available. During her time at the house, Sylvia insulted my family home to my sister "I wouldn't buy a house like this" (which is a lovely Colonial house in NW DC) and "How did the yard get like this!" (perhaps because my mom was sick for 4 months prior to her death 4 months ago); information she should have known because I told Joe. Joe summarily dismissed my concerns. Instead of planting flowers in the beds by the steps as promised, Sylvia provided two what looked to be left over planters (“They cost $43 each but I could have them at no charge!!”), with flowers that appeared to be from the clearance shelf. The planters were placed on top of the two mulched beds by the steps. Awkward! They look as if someone forgot them there. The leftover flowers in plastic baskets were left to decorate the stoop by the top steps. Containers have to be watered more often. When I was asked by phone about the planters, I was given the impression that they would be in addition to flowers planted in the beds. Worse, the arrangements do not complement the tone of the house. Other than being asked about the planters on Wednesday, I was never consulted about the flowers. And somehow, the house numbers post on the corner of the yard disappeared. Disappointed and unhappy, I asked for Joe to plant flowers in the beds, he told me to purchase them and he would have them planted. I have to buy flowers? Disgusted with the whole process, I have tried to pay the balance with a credit card. Joe informed me that he is not set up to take credit cards, which is contrary to their business site on Angie's List. Visa and checks are listed as accepted payments. Then, I learned that Joe contacted the realtor asking him to recommend Mulberry Bush Landscapes. Of course the realtor refused. So now I am waiting to see the outcome of my complaint to Angie’s List. The yard is cleaner than it was but worth $1200?? I doubt it and I am still waiting to pay the balance with a Visa card. After reading more of Mulberry Bush Landscapes’ other reviews, I consider myself fortunate to have gotten done as I have. This is no way to conduct a business.

I wasn't pleased with them. There were a lot of calls before hand. It became apparent to me that the owner was dealing with a lot of calls and jobs. Scheduling an appointment was difficult. He never came himself. He sent out four men to do a quick clean up job. They rushed and were not terribly interested in the job. I wouldn't use their services again in the future. They didn't meet my standards.
