A week later, I went in to select a basic remote starter and set up an appointment. After yet another hard sell for the remote starter with the alarm system, I selected the basic remote starter for my car. Only now, the price was $350. Since this price was equal to the next lowest estimate that I received while shopping around (and the customer service was friendly), I opted to save time and schedule an appointment.
A few days later, I dropped my car off to have the remote starter installed. While I was at work I received a call from Streamline Auto letting me know that they NEED to upgrade my remote starter to a starter with an alarm system because that system would be most compatible with my car...and that they would do this for "only $130" more. I told them that if they could not do the job for $362 (including tax) to pull my car out of the bay, and I would pick it up later that day. Amazingly, (with the threat of losing the sale) they found a way to do what I wanted for the price that I initially agreed to.
Finally it was time to pick up the car. When I went to the window to pay the balance, I was told that they "upgraded" my system at no additional charge but they were unable to roll the charge for the remote trunk release into the free upgrade, "so that would be an additional $30." I said, "I hope you didn't do anything that would cost more than the price that I agreed to because I am not paying any more." Exacerbated, she "cancelled" the charge. What made this situation more incredible is that shortly after the charge was cancelled, a technician came out to inform me that due to the type of car that I have, the trunk release was NOT able to be installed. (The cashier was trying to charge me for something that I DID NOT and COULD NOT receive!!!)
The overall experience was exhausting at best. I was left with the impression that the employees of streamline auto are used to up-selling their customers and are willing to charge for services/products that you don't receive.
