The movers were supposed to show up at 1 pm. There was a problem with the original crew, they never showed. I understand that things do happen (they never told me the exact problem). However, they should have provided many many more phone calls to keep me informed. I was calling them more often than they were calling me. They should have told me what was going on at 12:30. I didn't know anything until 2:15, after I called them twice. A second crew was dispatched and finally arrived at 4 pm. Unfortunately our condo's loading dock closes at 5 pm. We were lucky in that they let us use it to 5:30. This crew looked a little tired from assumingly from the work earlier in the day. However, they worked their butts off due to the time constraints. All glass was packed up professionally. Nothing was damaged. The final deal. The front office needs much more improvement in communications when something goes wrong with the schedule. The crew did an A+ job - once they got there.

The three movers who arrived to pack my apartment were prompt, professional and handled my property carefully & were excellent packers. If I had moved within Washington DC - I would have given this moving company an "A". However my experience with the mover who unloaded my belongings in Austin was totally different - he was unprofessional and rude. He mishandled my property - there was only 1 mover to unload the belongings of a 1 bedroom apartment. Items that were marked fragile were delivered haphazardly & while I packed most of the boxes myself - this is the first time in of 6 moves in which items were broken. He tried to charge me for fees not outlined in the contract. I had to call the company several times while he was there to clarify the terms of the contract. I had items that were also going to a storage unit - the original packers had marked these items with a different color tag. When we arrived at the storage unit - there were multiple boxes that had been marked for my house. Again - he tried to charge me additional fees not outlined in the contract. Movers USA is responsible for their subcontractors - based on my experience with this long haul sub-contractor - I have to give Movers USA a D and would not use them again.

These guys were friendly, professional, and quick as heck. They had my Baltimore row-house cleared out in less than an hour and were clearly well-experienced - they could eyeball angles to figure out the best approach and figure things out way better than I could (I'm a lowly IT guy). They were friendly and fast. Enough so that I made a point of providing refreshments out of gratitude (in addition to tipping).

Our furniture then needed to be moved into an apartment and two storage lockers. Movers were very polite, very neat, and very conscientious about handling our items. They are the first movers I've had in 30 years who actually placed furniture exactly where it should be, and took the time to center pieces. At the storage locker, it was clear that they knew how to carefully but efficiently stack and store even fragile items. We will be moving again in 6 months, and definitely plan to use them.

Awful Can't trust a company that could break your furniture and be so open about wanting to leave a customer hanging!
Description of Work: Wanted to book this company based on 'good reviews', but when you dig a bit deeper, there's a lot to be concerned about: 1) Buyer beware This company has a damage waiver that only covers 60cents / pound in damage. (Ex.) If the mover breaks something or damages something, they would only take the weight of the item and multiply by 60 cents to compensate you. The rep was VERY open about how anything more was the customer's responsibility and that they will make NO effort to help repair any furniture they break. He also stated that it doesn't make any business sense to repair expensive items, they would 'lose to much money'. He made it very clear the customer would be left holding the bag for any furniture repairs. They force you to sign this waiver accepting these terms before your job (see other reviews) Advice: ask about this waiver upfront and see if you feel comfortable paying out of pocket to repair anything they damage -- you're absolutely on your own! 2) Arrogant/condescending Throughout my conversation, I was repeatedly told how my move would only make them $50-$100 in profit, so they are really not interested in accommodating my moving needs. This came up with respect to #1 above, where if there was any furniture damage, such a 'low profit' job is the main reason it's not worth their while to try to repair any breakage that occurs.

We appreciate the time and the opinion (Member name removed) invest in the review, however, we feel that it is imperative to clarify some of the misinformation contained therein. To provide some background information to assist those reading this review in understanding our industry, we would like to explain that household goods carriers/moving companies have a standard level of liability coverage for customer's lost and/or damaged items. Most movers standard coverage pays a minimal amount based on the weight of the missing/damaged item at $.30/lb/article, not its value. For example, if the mover damages a 100 pound sofa, it would only be required to pay the consumer $.30/lb/article, or $30.00 if the Consumer had chosen the free coverage level. This coverage is so minimal that every customer should consider purchasing better coverage. A mover may offer you the option of buying a higher level of valuation coverage that would pay for the actual value of your items. Even better, you may obtain actual insurance from your own insurance company or have your mover purchase a policy for true insurance for you from an insurance company, for which you would have to pay the premium. The levels of liability and charges associated with each option vary and may even vary from company to company. If you have homeowner's/renter's insurance, check to see if your policy covers loss or damage during moves. Many consumers mistakenly assume that moving companies are insured to cover the full value of their goods at no extra charge. Unless the consumer makes specific arrangements, the mover generally assumes liability for the shipment at an amount equal to $.60/lb/article. Therefore, it is important for consumers to assess the various options, check to see what might already be covered under their own homeowner's/renter's policy, and then purchase/choose the coverage that best meets their needs. Always make sure that if you do in fact purchase coverage from a moving company that the coverage amount appears on the Bill of Lading/Contract, and consumer should obtain a copy of the insurance policy that the moving company receives. With regard to this specific consumer review, Movers USA does not ask consumers to sign any "waivers" of any kind. The $.60/lb/article is the free valuation coverage that Movers USA includes in every local Maryland move for each customer. As stated previously, the actual mandated free coverage in the state of Maryland is $.30/lb/article, yet Movers USA opts to give their customers DOUBLE that coverage at $.60/lb/article at no extra charge. We are unaware of almost any other company who does this. As indicated above, we also offer the Consumer the option of purchasing an actual insurance policy for their move from a private insurance company. That policy, if purchased, would provide for repair or replacement of damaged items. Unlike many other moving companies, Movers USA clearly and thoroughly goes over these coverage options with each and every customer prior to booking their move, to provide transparent and complete information so as to ensure that they may select the coverage that best suits them and make sure that the Consumer has no surprises on moving day. With regard to the other issue raised by the Consumer, we regret that (Member name removed) felt that he was not treated as courteously and professionally as we strive to treat every customer we work with. The issue with (Member name removed)move was certainly not the "low profit" margin, but the fact that Consumer's move included hoisting of a bed through a window - a service that Movers USA does not provide. They clearly explained to the Consumer that they would not be able to hoist any items through windows, but that if she moved the item down to the ground level himself the movers would be happy to move them thereafter. The Consumer insisted not only that Movers USA hoist the bed, but also that they fully insure this item & the rest of the items without him purchasing the offered additional coverage. Ultimately, Movers USA had to decline to move this Consumer as they could not hoist the furniture as he required. They advised him of this in a timely manner. This had nothing to do with this Consumer personally nor the cost of his move, but strictly due to industry standards which require the coverage options specified above. We would suggest that Consumer hire a licensed hoisting/rigging company to provide the service needed, which are not moving services but a specialty service. We greatly regret that the Consumer is unhappy, but must stress that Movers USA offered him DOUBLE the coverage he was legally entitled to under industry standards at no charge, as well as advising him of the other coverage options which were available to him. At no time was he offered or asked to sign a waiver. Finally, this Consumer did not move with Movers USA, we did not perform any services for him, and he did not pay our company any monies. While James was at our house for an estimate for a full move, we spontaneously asked if it would be possible to have a crew at the house the next day to move items to an off-site storage facility. He said that he would check and advise us that afternoon whether it could be done. He called later in the day to say that they could have a truck at the house at 8;00 the next morning. At 7:15, we spotted the truck outside. There were three men in the crew, and the operation included packing items ranging from books to framed pictures. They worked efficiently and carefully. We were in the process of painting the walls, and the crew was very careful when moving the items, including tall bookcases and other large pieces of furniture. When we arrived at the storage facility, they efficiently unloaded the items from the truck and placed them in the room. We were pleased with the job. They were prompt, efficient and careful throughout the entire operation.

It was outstanding from beginning to end. They arrived before time. They did a great job wrapping the furniture. It was raining that day and nothing got wet. They did a thorough job. I moved from a one level condo to a 4th level apartment in a multi level elevator building. Luis' team was courteous, polite and businesslike and yet friendly enough. Very professional. I was given a 2-hr arrival window starting at 8:00 AM. They arrived at about 9:00 AM and got to work. I walked the supervisor through the house, pointing out items for special handling and things I forgot to mention for the original estimate. Since my estimate was based on the weight of my previous move and an off-the-top-of-my-head tally of items in my house, I was prepared for an upward revision of their estimate. The supervisor refigured the numbers and gave me a new estimate of $2000.00 for the move. Still, most of the cost was labor and that would be charged based on the actual number of hours worked. I signed off and they got to work. The team consisted of three smallish Mexican guys and a big black guy. The Mexicans were clearly veterans; they moved quickly and efficiently. The black guy was quite a bit younger, quite a bit bigger, and clearly the junior member on the team. They didn't look like much but they were all strong as mules. They never put boxes on a dolly-- they simply carried them by hand, regardless of weight or size, up and down stairs. The only thing that gave me pause during the loading of the truck was the way they handled my (rather expensive and fragile) guitars. They put them on the top layer in the back of the truck. They probably would have been okay but I asked that they take them out so I could move them in myself. They did so without complaint and didn't take offense. I had a lot of heavy woodworking equipment: table saw, band saw, jointer, planer, belt sander, work bench, router table, etc. Their most challenging piece was a 700 lb gun safe. Instead of using an appliance dolly, as previous movers had done, they levered it on to a set of rollers, which allowed them to negotiate a narrow passageway and 90-degree turn much more easily than the crew with the dolly. By mid-afternoon, the truck was full but there still a number of items left in the house and garden shed. They offered to either get another (smaller) truck to take the rest that day or they could come back the next day. As hard as those guys worked on my house, they still had another job scheduled that day that they needed to attend to. Since I was already planning to get a U-Haul trailer to move stuff they couldn't put in the truck (spray paints, insecticides, ammunition, etc) or that I wanted to move personally (guitars, computers), I decided to deal with the remaining items myself the following day. They set off for Frederick in the moving van; I followed. I caught up with them just as they were turning into a 7-Eleven near my new house. They took a short lunch break then got to work unloading the truck. Here is where more planning ahead could have saved me trouble in the following weeks: Do: Label boxes clearly with the room *in the new house* where you would like them to go. Do: Label the rooms in the new house so the movers know what you mean. My mistake was using the word "office" for two different things. I had labeled all my books as "office", but I also used "office" for my real working office, where the computers, monitors, printers and filing cabinets go. I wanted the books upstairs and my office downstairs. The only way I could make this happen was to intercept the mover with box in hand, read the detailed contents written on the box, then make a split-second decision on where to send him. Trust me, you really feel like an idiot when you got a guy holding a 40 lb box for you as you try to read your handwriting listing the contents. As a result, I frequently defaulted to the downstairs option. Now I am having to move those boxes up the stairs (and I've never been in as good a shape as those guys and, pushing 50, I certainly am not now. They finished up at about 5:00 PM-- an amazing accomplishment considering just how much stuff I have collected over the years. When we settled the account, I was surprised at the final bill: $1400.00, the original estimate. The supervisor said that since they couldn't fit everything on the truck, they could justify the extra cost. I was happy about that. Maybe I should have pushed back a little since it was partially my fault that they underestimated the size of the job. I ended up tipping the movers $40 each ($120.00 total). I don't know what is appropriate for this kind of job but I was really impressed by their professionalism, strength and stamina. Some people might have taken exception to the increase in estimate on the day of the move and their failure to bring an adequately sized truck. To avoid this, do your home work and give your movers the most accurate estimate possible. Also, don't get yourself into a position where you absolutely must get the job done in one day. Build some flexibility into your schedule to allow for unexpected contingencies. Doing so will save you a lot of unnecessary stress and aggravation.
Description of Work: Movers USA moved me from a small 4-bedroom rental house in Rockville, MD, to similar but larger house in Frederick, MD. Based on my verbal description of the contents of my house, they gave me an estimate of $1400 for the job. This included 8 hrs of labor for 4 men and the use of a 27' moving truck for a distance of 32 miles (one way). I had already packed everything in boxes so all they had to do was wrap up the furniture, load that and the boxes into the truck, drive to Frederick and reverse the process.
