He explained to me that because of the condition of the (single) garage door's springs, pulleys and cables, I was taking my life in my hands by being inside the garage with the garage door in the down position (the door is under spring pressure in the down position). Based on that I agreed to a complete garage door rebuild -- $500 total -- not including the motor. Listen, don't be a sucker like I was. Yes I agreed to the price and yes he did exactly what he said he would and now my 23 year-old garage door is in excellent fit, finish and function. But $500 for a handful of parts and a half hour's worth of labor?! A word to the wise: Everything is negotiable.

 + -1 moreI don't have time. Basically I called because they had installed the original, very old door and done a good job with repairs. Their track reconrd contributed to credibility when they told me nothing more could be done. They were prompt, efficient, courteous, and the repair worked.

They gave me a quote for the prices for service and for the part, so I could have that information ahead of time. I have used them before, and would use them again, but our schedules just didn't match up this time.

Description of Work: I bought a $129 coupon for garage door tune up plus free new rollers. The technicians were very polite and professional. They inspected the garage door and changed the roller in a very short time. They told me about the condition of the garage door. However, I was disappointed for the "tune up". Because if it were not for changing the new rollers, which was included in the coupon, the so called "tune up" would just include inspection but nothing else. They informed me that the springs need to be rebalanced, which was not included and would cost extra. To me, these are the things to be exactly included in the real tune up.

To show how committed this company was, it was pouring, I mean POURING rain that day; but the serviceman came out anyway and performed the maintenance, since he was inside of the garage for most of the time that it took to perform the check. He was also able to help my husband with some questions that he had. We also learned about the correct garage door that we should have installed, and plan to use this company to perform the work.
Description of Work: Garage-door tune up: rewiring, greasing wires; checking the mechanism. Sorry I can't provide more detail but service was almost a year ago.

Description of Work: We had to have the torsion springs for our garage door replaced because one broke. The technician came to our home, was sharp as a tack, replaced the springs, fixed a few dents, replaced the rollers and lubricated all of the moving parts.

 + -1 moreThe job went well. Barry is always the technician that gets "stuck" with me. He's professional, friendly and clearly explains what he is going to do and, afterwards, what he did do.. The quality of the work was excellent. The garage door moves smoothly and quietly now. My only criticism might be the price. I thought the charge for the additional parts were expensive. The invoice stated no charge for the labor but it was clearly built into the cost of materials. However, it certainly wasn't enough to make me call another service company or try to do it myself. And there's something to be said for getting it done right then and there. If and when the need arises, I will call them again.
Description of Work: I purchased the recent garage door tune up and replacement roller special offered through Angie's List. I've dealt with the company before, once on another Angie's List promotion and twice on other service calls. I was having problems with the door so I knew I was going to need more work than just the Angie's List services.

 + -1 moreI was most impressed with their punctuality, speed, and professionalism. Two garage door technicians arrived at my home within 3 hours of my initial call to the company. They were very professional, and came prepared with all the equipment to fix the garage door on the spot. Within 1.5 hours, they straightened out the completely bent (almost to a 90 degree angle) track, installed 2 new cables, 2 new springs, 2 new drums, 10 new rollers, and added a new center bearing. Regarding the quality of the work, only time will tell; I am optimistic. I gave the price a "B" rating only because the cost of the parts and labor was not broken down for me ahead of time. The quote was solely a lump sum that included all the parts and labor. Also, the price intially included replacing the bent track with a new one, but the technicians decided against replacing the track when they were able to straighten the old one.
Description of Work: Our garage door was completely off the track, the track was bent, and the cable snapped. Barry, the garage door technician, repaired all this and replaced two springs and a center bearing on the door. He also added two new drums and 10 new rollers.

He replaced the equipment and hardware without any issues, although he was rushing towards the end of the job he still did a good job. Precision door is a little on the high price side but they do good work.

 + -1 moreMy fiancee called Precision because her garage door wouldn't stay closed. They said they would come between 7-9 a.m., but at 8:30 a.m., someone called her to say that one technician was out, and the one assigned to her wouldn't get there until10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Thank goodness she was working from home that day, and she didn't have to get to the office! When the tech did show, he repaired the problem quickly (he simply mended a broken wire; he left the scrap wire on the garage floor, BTW). But then he told her that her system needed serious maintenance, and was dangerous as it was. He gave her an estimate to replace the springs, add safety cables, and change the rollers, and said it would normally cost $600 but there was a special this month (of course) for only $450. After they left, my fiancee called Door Doctor for a price comparison. They were very helpful and estimated the work would cost $300, and maybe less if the parts looked sound to them. (They were surprised to hear that Precision didn't even try to adjust the springs before suggesting they be replaced.) They also said that others have complained that Precision frequently suggests more work when coming out on a service call, and that they quote high prices. Moral of the story: My fiancee has her next garage door opener appointment with Door Doctor.

Description of Work: I called the office and asked if I had used their services before they told me no. I asked what they charged for estimates and was told 49.50 I agreed and said please send someone. While waiting for the tech I checked my records and found I had used this company several times. 3 for which i had receipts and 2 for which I did not. When the tech showed up he was the same tech that had replaced the gears that needed replaced this time and he remembered doing the job from before. He quoted $325 plus tax. to repair the gears and I would have to wait a week for parts or I could have him replace the whole unit today for $525 plus tax. I told him that sounded good please write up the estimates. He asked if I was going to have the work done today. I said no I'm getting several estimates. He became upset and angry and said I should have told the office that instead of wasting his time coming out here if I wasn't going to have the work done. I informed him I asked the office what it would cost for estimates and was willing to pay the 49.50 just for the estimate. He told me by the time I pay for estimates I might just as well have him do the work and what would it take to get the work done today. I told him I only wanted estimates because for $300-$600 worth of work I getting other estimates and I also wanted to find the paperwork to see if the warranty was up on the previous gear work he had done. I told him I found it odd that when I called the office they told me I had never use them before even though I had spent almost a $1000 with this company and had them out at least 4 times before and that maybe they could have look and checked if the previous work was under warranty. The tech responded by saying that I was a grown man and it wasn't their (Precision's) job to babysit it's customers. I think the reason the tech was so upset and angry was because I was getting estimates and he knew that if I got them there was no way I would use them. Fred C. Johnson Co.(Angie's List) came out 3 days later to give me aestimate for free. They don't charge for estimates. They quoted $188 vs $325 for the gear work and $341 vs $525 to replace the whole unit. Needless to say I had Fred C Johnson do the work.
