I contacted Western Pest Services about 3 business days before they were able to come out. Within 24 hours of my contacting them, they faxed me the expected job cost as well as the cost for an annual *contract, which was inclusive of my first visit. The technician arrived promptly and listened to our objectives relevant to the treatment. The house was vacant with some large holes in the drywall, we had also removed all kitchen cabinets and appliances (except the fridge) and all roach harboring items from the property prior to his arrival. We gave him the run of the house while we went back to our jobs. When I returned to the house after work, I found the house secured as I'd requested and my receipt for payment with a detailed description of the work he performed and the chemical names or traps that were utilized. I was very impressed at his willingness to take advantage of the opened walls and areas where access is usually limited and his thoroughness in treatment of all inside and outside areas of the home. The 2-3 days following his visit kept us busy sweeping up the "fruits of his labor". After the clean-up, I have not found any evidence of roaches or any other pests. I feel very confident to have my contract with Western Pest Services.
Description of Work: Extermination treatment services in my townhouse for roaches, spiders, ants, mice....pretty much everything except carpenter ants and termites. I'd bought the house a couple weeks earlier and found an ongoing problem with roaches and also found evidence of a serious roach and mouse infestation that may have been treated for in the past. *The price I listed is the amount of the annual contract.

They were punctual, the cost they quoted was competitive, they were professional, cleanly, and explained what they were doing.
Description of Work: Drilled around the house and treated for termites. They put wood steaks so you can pull those up and check for termite activity. So far I haven’t seen any.

Description of Work: We called Western based on a recommendation from neighbors. They were very professional about setting up the appointment. Unfortunately they never showed up. When we called to find out what had happened, they said we'd been rescheduled for the 15th. Unfortunately, no one from Western ever called us to tell us this, so we wasted a morning waiting for them to show up. We are going to find a different company to work with as I find this kind of lack of communications from contractors to be totally unacceptable.

The price point for their annual service is competitive and if that were the only consideration, we'd still be a customer. Unfortunately, we were compelled to cancel our annual contract after numerous no-shows by their tech. After each no-show (which typically included either my wife or I taking the day off of work to wait for their representative), we complained and were typically able to re-schedule for a different day. The no-shows (or late-shows) persisted. Eventually, we tired of the lack of consideration for our time and cancelled the contract and signed with Connor's Pest. We recently moved out of DC into MD and decided to give them another chance particularly because (1) their price point was competitive and (2) the salesperson who came to our house to give an estimate was timely, professional, and generally seemed knowledgeable. We signed an annual agreement in early 2011 and scheduled an appointment for our first treatment. We informed them that we would provide payment for the full year once the tech showed up for the first treatment (this primarily due to our negative experience with Western previously) and the sales person was understanding and agreed. The tech didn't show during the window provided. When we called the dispatch number to inquire as to the location of the tech, we received an combative tone and an excuse about someone sleeping in rather than an apology for the inconvenience and willingness to rectify the situation. Against my better judgement, I rescheduled and again, no show. We are now contracted with a competitor and paying more than we would have with Western for an equivalent service. p.s. Despite my experience, I rated them a "B" for quality - specifically because their chemicals DO work. In fairness, we saw a significant drop in bugs when they applied the treatment. But, the quality of chemicals and somewhat competitive cost is neither a differentiator from their closest competitor (Connor's) nor adequate compensation for the lost vacation days and hours of frustration waiting for a tech who would never come.
Description of Work: We contracted with Western for a period of about 3 years from roughly 2006 to 2008 for annual pest service for our house in NW DC. They provided (somewhat) quarterly treatments for crickets, spiders, rodents, etc. This included in-home spraying of baseboards and likely hiding spots for critters. Additionally, they treated the exterior of the house to control for rodents (mainly, mice).

We pay an annual fee to have Western come to our house and spray to prevent bugs and pests getting in. They come three times a year (only once a year requires access inside the house). Part of the package is free additional house calls to come deal with pests if we see any in our house. We found several bugs in our house and called for them to come out. It is difficult to find a date when they can come out since they assign technicians to areas by day of the week and they don't seem to ever be in our area on Wednesdays when my wife has off. I was able to get a Friday morning pretty early. Turns out we have Japanese stink bugs, which the technician said you can't really spray for. Although they couldn't help on this particular problem (and we've only seen a few), there have been very rarely crickets in the house since we started using Western, which makes the annual fee well worth it.
Description of Work: Western provides preventative home protection from pests.

In reliance on Angie's list's positive reports, I called Western to get rid of a swarm of ground bees along my entrance walk and by the public sidewalk. Neighbors had expressed concerns about the safety of their children with bee swarms so close to where the children ride tricycles, etc., and I wanted the problem addressed as quickly as possible. I spoke with Kevin Skillman (it may be Stillman, not sure about my handwriting), who (after offering to sell me hundreds of dollars worth of services that I didn't need) assured me that someone would be there the next day, by late morning, to take care of the problem. He gave me a new number to call in case I had any questions or wanted to buy some of those services he tried to sell me at the outset of the call. I thought the $200 fee quoted was on the high side, but I decided to go ahead based on the fact he said the job would be done the next day. But it wasn't done the next day, and when I called the number he gave me, I got ORKIN, not Western. When I finally reached someone at Western, I was informed that the job would be done the following day, and it was, and done effectively. But the story doesn't end there. Not only was I charged the agreed $200 by Western, but a charge by ORKIN for $164.30 also appeared on my credit card statement! When I called Western, they said that Western and Orkin are affiliated, but the Western staff was unable to account for the charge by ORKIN or to assist me in getting it removed. (They did appear to be trying, at least.) I also called Orkin, and was told they had no record of any work done for me (which is true, so why charge me??) and could not account for the charge. But they were not able to figure out which of their 500 regional offices charged my account nor why I was charged when no services were performed. They, thus, were unable to credit my account. They told me that my credit card company will have to sort out the problem.
Description of Work: Nests/swarms of ground bees right by the public sidewalk were treated.

It was uneventful. They are due for a follow up within 1-2 days.
Description of Work: My wife saw mouse in our basement and again in the kitchen. We called Western Pest Control. The phone rep was very professional. We arranged for time the next day. The technician arrived, on time. The technician inspected our house for possible entry points for pests and made recommendations. After we agreed to plan, he set out old-fashioned mouse traps and closed several potential entry points.

Western sent out a technician within a couple days of our call, and they were able to complete the service when we were not home. They successfully killed the yellow jackets, and there's still no sign of them coming back. We were very happy with the services provided.
Description of Work: An active yellow jacket nest on the outside of my home was treated ("dusted") with one treatment. A 30-day guarantee was applied so if the yellow jackets had come back within that time, they would have come out for free to treat it again.

Called Western and Mike Raley, sales rep, came to my home. He was professional and courteous. I was given a one year contract for consideration, I ultimately agreed to and called the office to schedule a visit. Technician was supposed to be at my house between 12-4 on a Wednesday, I have yet to see that technician. Got a call about 3 that day, indicating he was running late but would be there at approximately 4, at 4:45 the technician still hadnt arrived or called. I called the office and told them thanks but I would take my business elsewhere.

Description of Work: I noticed that we had a few winged ant-like bugs and contacted Western. The people in the office were very polite and set up an appointment for that very day. Their representative, Carl, arrived right on time and was very helpful and professional. He examined our home and determined that we did not have termites. He explained how a termite prevention works. We may do this but have not made that decision yet. I would use them in a heartbeat though. I was very impressed with the 2 company members I spoke to.

The representative, Ryan Thomas, was friendly and very helpful. He came to the house the day after I called Western. He arrived on time. He walked around the house and checked inside for any other signs of pests. We signed up for the annual contract which is a bit more expensive than some other companies, but Western will come out above and beyond the 3 annual visits if we see any signs of pests. This seemed like a great convenience. Hopefully we wont have to use it but its nice to know that they will come out as many times as we call them. The technician, Donnell Jones, came to the house a couple of days later. He was very polite and courteous. He took off his shoes when entering the house and explained the types of chemicals that he was using. Although not completely nontoxic, the pesticide used has a lower concentration than many others. So far the ants seem to be under control. But Donnell assured me that if we see any signs of ants after a few days to call them and they would return promptly.
Description of Work: We had an infestation of ants/flying ants. They sprayed around the outside of the house and along the baseboards in the kitchen and bathrooms only so there would be less chemicals in the house.

So far, so good. No crickets have gotten in. The technician was friendly, on time and explained everything to my wife, who was the one at home when he came. They also offer a discount for following years (significant savings) plus about 10% discount if you pay for the full years service up front.
Description of Work: We called because we have a really bad cricket problem in our house every summer into fall. We end up killing 5-7 a day despite all the traps we put out that catch more. Western offers a year-long service that includes three trips to spray the whole house, lay traps and offer advice on keeping pests out. They also guarantee unlimited additional trips if we ever spy any of the pests in our house. So far we havent had to call them. The company sent a follow-up card reminding us to take advantage of this service if we need it. We also had a separate guy come out to inspect for termites, for which there was no charge.

They came out and provided an estimate for a yearly plan to eliminate pests in the house. They were punctual, friendly, helpful and competitively priced. The technician (Glen) that came to perform the service was knowledgeable and professional. I feel confident that if I continue to have problems, they will come address them.

I received two bids and theirs was the better. The applicator Mike, (the other Mike) showed up on the appointed day 15 minutes early. He did a great job. He explained everything and was very, very thorough. He even didnt complain going into my crawl space. He called his rep. to assist him when he needed another pair of hands. I will take them up on their yearly inspections. They promised to send me a reminder card, just like the dentist.
Description of Work: I had termites. They killed the termites. They also killed the crickets as collateral damage.
