Solid State Systems

I have a Nutone Central Vacuum System that was built into my house when it was constructed in 1960. The system has worked very well for the past 15 years that I have owned and lived in the house. Recently, the system lost suction and did not pick up even dust very well. After discussing the problem with a couple of people at Nutone tech support for a do-it-yourself remedy, I decided it was beyond my capabilities and would be better to get a professional to take a look at the problem. On a Friday, I contacted the only two service providers in the area. I completed a service request form on the Solid State Systems (SSS) website and called the other provider who was able to schedule an appointment about 10 days later.  On the following Monday, I received an email from Maria at SSS in which she apologized for the delay in responding due to her being out of town and the only one who handles emails and scheduling. She said that SSS would be happy to help with my central vacuum system problem and told me that service calls are $150 for the first hour plus parts then $25/quarter hour following the first hour. She also said that they were fully scheduled that week but might be able to squeeze me in somewhere. I called Maria after getting her email. She was terrific to talk with and she agreed to try to fit me in to the schedule within the next few days. The next day Maria called and said she had a technician in the area who could come over to my house within an hour. The SSS technician arrived less than an hour later and was immediately joined by his "boss"  Steve. They quickly assessed the problem and worked expertly and expeditiously to fix it. It was a "clogged" hose. They put a plumber's "snake" through the hose to find and dislodge the clog. It turned out to be a nail that got stuck in the hose that was the culprit. After pulling it out, they glued the hole it left in the hose and my "old reliable" central vacuum system was back to normal. The whole job took an hour and while I had two technicians, including Steve (the boss), I was charged for only one of them. Both of them were delightful to work with, as was Maria at the office, and I would highly recommend Solid State Systems for any kind of work that they do.

My experience with Solid State was excellent.  I spoke with both Maria and Steve and asked a TON of questions - both of them were extremely polite, understanding, and explained the answers thoroughly; amazingly neither of them seemed tired of my nagging, at least they didn't show it if they were :).  The technicians who came out to install the new system were also great, quick and a lot of fun.  I just wish the prices had been better.  Understanding that their work includes a warranty, the prices were a LOT higher than if I bought the hardware and installed it myself (the only reason we didn't do this is because we are having a lot done to a new house all at once and didn't want to hold up the sequence of jobs that came after this one).

I had contacted this company in 2010 to replace existant system but never had it done. I called them again this may to replace the system. we scheduled 1 week out. Flavio who is one of their electricians came and installed the system. it took about 7 hours from start to finish. he did a fine job. Over the memorial day weekend we were having a small problem with the system. we phoned the company and steve the owner told has how to handle the problem temporarily. he sent Flavio back to us and he fixed a minor wiring problem. The owner, Flavio and office manager Maria were great. this company is a well run company and I would not hesitate to use them again.

We needed to have our NuTone intercom system replaced and recognized Solid State as the only certified dealer/service provider in the area.  From the very start Maria was supremely helpful.  Not knowing the model number, and after sharing pictures of the old intercom Maria, she was able to determine that our intercom was obsolete (not a shock!) and recommended a newer AiPhone system.  I had many questions about the dimensions of the system, among other things, and she was friendly and able to answer everything.  In my opinion her customer service went above and beyond.  When it came time to schedule installation they were able to fit me in during the same week.  

The technician came on time, was very professional, and was able to swap out the old system for the new with no issue.  I would definitely use them again!

They were very knowledgeable and they were local. They were down to earth and customer oriented. The initial work that I needed was having some fire alarms installed, which were low voltage ones. They came out and did it relatively inexpensively. In the process, they identified some other electrical issues. Then I hired them to do those repairs. I was trying to install light fixture and he helped me with that. He was very nice and helpful. You feel that they are a member of your family.
