The movers arrived on time, but it was downhill from there: I moved from a 1BR/1BA 700 square foot apartment into a house approximately 20 minutes across town. The movers had a dedicated freight elevator that took them directly to the truck. The move took eight and a half hours, which I found ridiculous considering how few things I have. Originally, the movers were supposed to make a second stop at a relative's house to pick up an additional set of table and chairs for my house, but because the movers did not know how to pack the truck properly (that part took approximately 2 hours and resulted in many broken items), we could not fit the belongings from the additional stop into the truck. The men refused to use dollys to make the work go faster. They would come up with an excuse to go down to the truck (without any of my belongings) and would disappear for 40 minutes at a time. It would take about 5 minutes to get to the truck on the freight elevator (dedicated). The men forgot to get packing materials out of the truck before they put my boxes in, so they spent 45 minutes digging the packing materials out (which they presumably expected me to pay for). When wrapping my funiture, the men would stop about halfway down the furniture and fail to wrap the remaining bottom upholstery. The men did not wrap my [very expensive Tempurpedic] mattress. When I told them that they would have to do so, they pulled my mattress out of the truck, into the trash room of my apartment building, and wrapped it. The men managed to put my boxes labeled "downstairs" upstairs and vice versa. I did not notice until after they had left. I had back surgery last year, and still spent the day after my move hauling boxes up and down stairs, which I have been told not to do. The men put boxes into my house upside down (picture attached). The packing was completely careless. My great grandmother's platter (with upturned edges) was packed flat in the bottom of a box with a corningware casserole dish right on top of it. There were two pieces of tissue paper separating the two items. Of course, the platter was in pieces when I unpacked it (picture attached). There were three boxes that were completely soaked because the movers did not pack liquids upright (picture attached). The movers broke two of the wheels off of the drawers in my platform bed. They do not close now (picture attached). The men wanted to listen to music and complained when the music was not to their taste. Knowing what I know now that I have unpacked, I would not have paid a cent for this move. To try to be balanced, I will offer the following two bright spots in what was otherwise the most stressful move I have had in my life: I found Gabriel very responsive to my concerns. Now that I know the extent of the damage that the movers did (to my back and otherwise), I realize that I probably should not have paid anything for this horrific experience; however, Gabriel did reduce the price, and I understand that these movers were fired. Also, the second crew that Gabriel sent to get my table and chairs two days later (at no additional cost) was very professional and very good.

They came in at the last minute and moved me to New York for almost half the price of what the other company had quoted me! Great service! Great price! I will certainly recommend them to all my friends.

Movers on duty, the sleeper hit of the moving business. Seriously. I didn't know they were around, I've never seen their black trucks (like other big MD-DC movers), and I probably would have never used them if it weren't for my pods company. I hired a pod company to ship my furniture items since I'm now leaving town and I selected packing services as well to make this all a bit less stressful and easier on my poor dad's back because he was tired of being my go-to mover. (Hi Dad!) Since the pod company is nationwide, they contract out with local movers to do the packing. That's how Gino and Robert got sent my way. While my situation was a bit different and I can't speak to the hourly estimate factor, I can say that Gino and Robert were two of the greatest movers I've dealt with...and I've dealt with a lot of them coming from the furniture industry in my past life.My guys showed up, told me it just wasn't possible to fit all my items in one cube (after it was delivered I knew...but they politely confirmed) but that they would pack them ceiling to floor and get as much in it as possible. I called the pod company, and they agreed to send another one that day. The movers got straight to work, carefully wrapped my upholstery and casegoods, and played a game I'll call "storage cube Tetris" by loading my goods in an efficient manner to get maximum storage out of that cube.They patiently waited while another cube was behind schedule for delivery and gave me no attitude or grief about doing so. We were worried some of my things might not even make it in a second cube due to height, but Gino assured me he would find a way to make it work. And you know what? He did. I actually enjoyed this experience, which is more than I can say from any other experience I've had with delivery guys or movers. I would highly recommend contacting them as the service was professional, personal, and top notch.

MOD were very courteous and professional. I've moved several times and this was the best move by far. I recommend them in every way - they are on top of the job and are really lovely people, which does make a difference. All my stuff arrived in good condition and it was a pleasure working with them. They go above and beyond in service and their prices are better than others - look at what other companies charge and you'll see that I'm right. I certainly love their no extra fees guarantee! Last time I moved I went for a company that was charging almost half (per hour) than MOD, although I had been talking to them and they did tell me that these other cheaper companies would come up with a lot of hidden fees on the moving day... Well, blame me for trying to save a few bucks, I ended up hiring this other company which to make a long story short didn't want to unload my belongings until I paid almost 4 times the quoted amount! That's why this time I hired Movers on Duty and could not be any happier with how everything went! PS: By all means if you're planning on moving, get written quotes from a few companies before you hire them, compare the contracts don't just look at their hourly rates, see what other charges they might have. It is your home they're going to be handling at the end of the day so you might as well take some time to analyze your options. -No more homework for me I am sure I got the best guys around, anyways back to unpacking ;-) Erika.

One truck did not show up, so the move took as long, which we were charged for. Guys were great, but we still have to move one truck a full as we stopped at 2 a.m.

I contacted MOD at the last minute after a horrible experience with another company. They were able to accomodate me for the next day, a Sunday, which was great! The gentlemen that performed the move were exceptionally professional and took great care of my furniture (some damage noticed). I was actually surprised to see any damage given how well they wrapped and padded the furniture. These guys were fast and strong! As stated by another customer, the truck was too small for a 4 bedroom townhouse and we had to make multiple trips. This drove up the price. I will be forever grateful to MOD for assisting me with a very stressful move.

Overall, this company was okay. The moving techs were great despite the fact that there should have been additional techs and a larger truck.

Well, I received an email with a 2 hours for $50 promotion from this company, I automatically called them and scheduled for pick up on my anniversary, I had a few items in my office that I wanted to take home to surprise my wife. The day of the move the guys showed up a bit late, but I have to accept that they did call me beforehand to let me know that they caught some traffic. Once they arrived these guys were running (literally) as a matter of fact, what I thought would take an hour and a half to be loaded onto the truck they did in 35 mins. And on top of that they protected every single item and didn't even want to charge me for the supplies. Since I had already paid for the 2 hours I asked them to help me fixing some things in my warehouse (for at least 1 hour I figured), but the guys had such a nice system that I ended up using them for another 3 1/2 hours and had them taking care of some things I wish I had done before. Delivery went as easy as pick-up, the guys never complained and made sure everything was in place before leaving my property. The total cost of the move was about $500.00. Well spent? For sure! and I am planning on using them to pick up my kid's stuff from New York in a couple of months.

Scheduled time window was from 1-4pm. Movers actually arrived at 6pm. First contact was at 3:45 saying they were still at the previous job and would be late. After movers arrived it took 3.5 hours to wrap the furniture and move it to the truck. For the majority of that time only 1 person was doing the majority of the work (he moved all of the boxes and all but 2 of the furniture items). They switched trucks in the middle of the move but I don't know how much, if any of the items were transferred between the trucks taking more time. Items were wrapped well and protected for the move it just took forever to get the job done. No problems at the unloading end. Movers were careful with the items and unloaded in less than 1 hour. Overall the job took 4.75 hours which is way too long for the scale of the job. Mentioned this when I paid but was given explanation that there were a lot of stairs. This is inadequate since that doesn't explain why it took so long to wrap each item as well as the lack of two workers doing equal work, which is what I paid for. Overall it was a bad move.

Over the service was good and they were professional. I didnt like the hidden charges. I had not expected to pay so much.

It would have been easy for them to just throw some covers over the furniture but they carefully wrapped it instead at no extra cost to us. As mentioned above, they were professional and efficient in every way. We have absolutely nothing negative to report and feel that they deserve to be on Angie's list of recommended vendors.
