They are top of the line. I love them. I hired them a couple of times and I'll hire them again. They are great. I actually did not pay more than the big deal. They did a fantastic job. It was well worth it. The guy's work was great. He was patient and he completed the job. I think he actually even left maybe 20 minutes after his time was up. He just wasn't going anywhere until he did every last detail. They were great. Their scheduling was fantastic. They were just very professional. The work was just great. My interaction with them was fantastic.
Description of Work: It was a big deal purchase. They did some carpentry work for me on a window and a door that I have that needed some wood replacement.

Ken of JW was fantastic - explained what he was doing. Worked very hard and for many hours. Was very pleased with the work. Start to finish (including cleanup) was first rate.
Description of Work: Outdoor window frame had rotted and needed to be substantially replaced. Checked and repaired other outdoor window frames, and primed, painted, and sealed those requiring repair. Made a new window screen to replace one that was broken.

Great, arrived on time, completed all the work as agreed and did a really nice job. And a nice touch that they cleaned up after them selves too. Will look to hire them again. Really like that you are paying them for a time block and they really work hard to complete it during that time frame. The work performed was a little cheaper than just a single quote on one type of job, so also a great value.

Long Version: My husband and I bought our first home this year. We needed to have a few things done before we could move in. I researched contractors and handymen extensively, trying to find someone we could trust. JW has so many great reviews and awards; they’re licensed, bonded, and insured; they seemed trustworthy. Scheduling the estimate was easy and the estimator was the most professional of the two companies we had come out. I felt very confident that hiring them would be a good decision. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The two people who actually came out to do the work barely spoke English. I think one of them didn’t speak any English at all! They obviously did not know what they were doing, as all the work was done incorrectly. We hired them to remove a small knee wall from the living room and replace two boards on the deck, plus all the top railing boards of the deck because they were peeling up from having been installed bark side up. The baseboard in the living room was installed crooked and the boards on the deck weren’t flush; they were also installed bark side up again, which was going to cause the exact same cupping and tripping hazard for why we had the boards replaced in the first place. It was a hefty bill and they refused to honor the advertised price for their services on Angie’s List. It had rained, so they claimed the other boards were soaked with water and once it dried out, it should be flush. I didn’t even know about the bark side up thing at that point because I didn’t know squat about wood. Let me start by saying I wanted to hire professionals who knew what they were doing so that I didn’t have to become an expert and do the work myself. These people do NOT know what they’re doing! When it dried out and it wasn’t any different, I called the company to ask that they fix it. Every time I called, they would say they’d call me back and they never would. A couple weeks would go by with me hounding them and them never returning my calls. FINALLY, someone called me back from the quality department after I e-mailed them pictures of the shoddy work. She said that the estimator was wrong in telling us we only needed to replace two boards on the deck. Again, I didn’t know anything about decks. I hired who I thought were professionals to come out and assess the deck and tell me what needed to be fixed/replaced. The estimator said we only needed to replace two boards: one that was slightly rotted and one that was a tripping hazard. This quality manager said that the estimator was incorrect, and they could either put in shims under the new boards to make them flush or we’d have to replace all the boards on the deck. And we’d have to pay for all that work, whichever option we chose. I was outraged! If the estimator didn’t assess the deck right in the first place, why was I being punished for it and basically told I’m SOL? They quoted a ridiculous number to come out and fix it, something like $1700. I was so disappointed. I got another professional to come out and assess the deck and give me a second opinion. This person told me that they had used the wrong thickness deck board, and that it was installed upside down. I played telephone tag with JW for a few more weeks before someone finally got in touch with me at 4:30pm (30 minutes before closing). I am normally a very calm, rational, logical person. I don’t call customer service lines and yell and fight. I don’t ask for unreasonable things. I paid for a service. They performed the service incorrectly. I wanted them to make it right. That’s it. I wasn’t asking for a full refund. I wasn’t asking for a cruise. I just wanted what I had already paid for. The man in the customer service department was belligerent! I have never in my life been treated so rudely. He couldn’t care less that I was unsatisfied with the work and argued with me for over 30 minutes about how I was wrong and how they wouldn’t fix anything for free. I asked to speak to his manager, but of course his manager had already left for the day, seeing as he had called me when the business was practically closed. He said his manager would call me the very next day. I didn’t hear from them for a few more weeks. On and on it went. Every time I talked to them it was a different story: the boards were wet; the boards were the wrong thickness; the boards only come in one thickness; they may have used railing boards instead of deck boards; no the height difference is because they’re old vs new boards; on and on. But the end result was always the same: they absolutely REFUSED to fix it free of charge. They wanted me to pay them at least another $212 to come out and fix it after I had already paid over $1657. When you do the work incorrectly in the first place, I shouldn’t have to pay for any subsequent work done to make it right. I shouldn’t have to research deck boards and available thicknesses and bark side up vs bark side down. I don’t want to become a wood expert to tell the supposed experts how to do their job correctly! I was so frustrated and mad. I felt like I had been scammed. Despite all their good reviews and talk about warranties and dedication to customer service, they were really just in it for the money. They didn’t care about me. They didn’t care about doing the work right. It has now been 2.5 months since they first performed the work. To add insult to injury, I received a discount card in the mail for up to 1 hour of service free. It was obviously a standard, generic offer that they must send to all customers to try and get repeat business. I had fought with them for months to get them to do the work for free and here they’re sending out discount coupons to probably hundreds of people! It was insulting. I knew I had to let the rest of the world know that these people are scammers and can’t be trusted. Well, they must have felt the ESP because I got a call that afternoon out of the blue, saying they wanted to send someone out to look at the deck at 8am on Monday. It was about time! A man named Chris called at 8:30am to say he would arrive in 30 minutes. I informed him that the appointment was for 8am, not 9am, and that I needed to leave at 9am to make it to work on time. He said he could evaluate the deck anyway while I was gone. He said that they could have used railing boards instead of deck boards, and that that would account for the non-flush-ness of the boards. He said it shouldn’t be noticeable so if it is, they probably used the wrong board and they could quickly and easily swap it out today while I’m at work. He said he would call and let me know once he saw the deck and before he did anything. I stayed at home until 9:05am but he hadn’t arrived yet, so I left. As of 4pm, I still had not heard from him so I called him. Yet again, it was a new story! He said they used a type 1 board. Type 2 is what we had on the deck. He said he called a couple local lumber houses but no one had the type 2 board in stock in the length we needed. He said he spent $10 and put 1/4-inch shims under each joist. That fixed the flushness, but he went on to say that type 1 and 2 boards have a different thickness AND width because they sand the board all the way around. So the deck boards would be flush but not close together. He told me to go home and look at it myself and decide if I was happy with the shims. He said he had authority to make this right, so he could order the special length board if I wanted him to. My husband and I checked it out and thought the small gap between the boards didn’t really matter. It was the height difference that was the problem because it caused a tripping hazard and we have two young children. We didn’t want them running across the deck, tripping, and smashing their little faces into the deck. I called Chris back and told him we were happy with the fix. He also confirmed there’d be no charge because it was a warranty issue. I wasn’t going to pay him anyway since he had done the work without prior authorization. But finally, I had found someone who understood the problem and fixed it. ETA: Within 1 hour of posting this ad, I got a call from Sam at JW. He apologized profusely and offered me a partial refund of $212 plus some hockey tickets. In the end, the effective method to get their attention seems to be writing a review, as opposed to calling them. I’m relieved it’s finally over and that they finally admitted fault. But I cannot fully recommend this company because of the immense stress and grief they put me through for months. I will not hire them again. They did not send qualified handymen to do the work. They took months to make it right. I cannot and will not go through that again.
Description of Work: TLDR: Worst customer service I’ve ever received in my life. Work was subpar & I had to fight with them for months over it before they finally made it right. They make you a priority if you write a review. Otherwise, they’re terrible at returning calls.

I had the owner of the company come out and do an estimate for many little things. I had to call and email several times because the estimate did not include a dollar amount. When they did give me a dollar amount, it was about $8,000 to remove trifold closet doors on three closet doors and install regular doors. The other items together was about $1,000. I gasped at the $8,000 and his assistant agreed that this seemed way too high and he would look into it and get back with me. No return call despite numerous calls and emails to them to inquire about a more realistic estimate. They just simply refuse to respond and took my $50 estimate fee with them.
Description of Work: I had several little projects such as caulking a window frame and then wanted three tri fold closet doors removed and regular doors installed in the same frame.

Very well. Sam got us scheduled quickly, Josh visited to scope out the project and gave an accurate accounting of the work needed with an estimate. The project was completed by Glenn who was outstanding. He was meticulous in his work - lining up the tiles which is no easy trick, as well as advising on better "glue" to retain the tiles in the kitchen environment. Beautiful job, easy peasy to schedule, get the assessment and fine workmanship.

The initial consultation happened very quickly within two days of the request. Our house is on the market, so things needed to be spruced up a bit. When the serviceman arrived to perform the services, he was not sure of what the work projects where, even though an estimator had previously been to our house. However, he worked very quickly and professionally. Unfortunately, he was not prepared to add hardware to the wood pallet/piece of art; that project remained unfinished. However, I e-mailed the company and let them know that the estimated time for service was supposed to take 4 hours, but it only took 2.5 (good, but it affects the pricing) and that one work project remained. Within minutes of receiving my e-mail, a company rep contacted me and referred me to Sam. However, before I even had the chance to call Sam, he called me and he apologized for the unfinished project and promised to make it right. He also noted the lesser amount of time. He was incredibly apologetic and said that this would be taken care of; they are going to come back at no cost and fix the project. He also offered a coupon for future service. Because he strived to go above and beyond to fix the problem, I would use this company again. It's clear that the issues will be addressed with the staff and he takes pride in his company's work. As for the service man who came to the house to perform the work, he was professional and worked very quickly.
Description of Work: There were several projects that needed completed: taking down 7 window blinds, hanging a plaque on an exterior post, replacing a doorknob for a french door (hole needed to be re-drilled; original handle an odd size); a new face plate on an outlet, and drilling into a wood pallet/piece of art to add hardware so that it could be hung.

The Hispanic gentleman, Pedro, who did the work did a fantastic job. I don't think it could be done any better. Companies are very lucky to have such hard working people. In fact, his work is why I gave this company a B instead of a C. The deal was for grout/caulk, but once they came, grout was not part of the offer, just caulking, but I really wanted it done. I had to furnish the materials, and Josh did not tell me that I needed Acetone, so Pedro had to delay until a second day, which was the 2nd delay, since my first appoint was cancelled due to an automobile issue. It seems to me that most Angie deals are to get the company into your house in order to sell you something else, at least this was the case, and this company is shockingly expensive. They wanted to know what other work I might want and I let them price the installation of a new bathroom sink and cabinet if I furnished everything. I was quoted $900.00. This was my third quote and the others were $275 and $350. Knowing how expensive they are, I don't think I would hire them again unless if was just for another Angies List deal.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angieslist deal for regrout/caulk of my shower. It is a very small shower, only about 5 years old but the mold around the bottom was finally getting to be more than I could keep clean

Cesar and Sung were incredible. Efficient and professional from day 1. Carefully explained what needed to be done and showed me what they had done. The siding that needed to be replaced is a custom size and Cesar was able to find the right size which is not available at local stores. I appreciated that he took the initiative to locate store that carried it. Best of all they came in under estimate.

The appointment for JW to come out to assess the project went well - the person arrived on time, was knowledgeable and polite. When I didn't receive the estimate from JW as promised - and after calling twice - I wrote a review on Angie's List. Sam from JW called me almost immediately and worked to get me the estimate. He provided great customer service - he got me the estimate the same day we spoke and has been extremely responsive and helpful in all our subsequent conversations. Sam really worked to turn the situation around - JW is clearly focused on good customer experiences. JW is scheduled to come out tomorrow morning to do the work so I am counting on having the same great outcome so many others on this site have had.

From my initial phone inquiry (I didn't get that nice man's name), to meeting with the estimator, Josh Metz, and then the work being done by Chris Brown, it was an easy and very satisfying experience. Josh worked with me to find the right day and was knowledgeable, professional and very friendly! Chris showed up on time and performed all of the very different jobs I needed done with great efficiency and expert skill. He was so polite and friendly. I will definitely ask for Chris again (I've already started my new list of jobs!) Jennifer Hamilton
Description of Work: Various handyman jobs including deck repair, removal of fence posts and hanging a mantle over my fireplace.
