They rescheduled me the day of the appointment because their called out. I got upset and they could only have someone come out on Monday. Monday morning someone came said they couldn't do the work. The situation got escalated and they had to send out another person, but he said that would take more than six hours to do the work, and that would cost more money (around $3000). I decided to having him do some painting, caulking and install handles on a storm door. He painted the wrong wall with the wrong color, caulking, and he said that he would unable to install the handles that I'd purchased onto the storm door. To even start the work, I had to make $50 dollar deposit that was supposed to be refunded to me if I didn't go over the six hours, which I didn't do, and it took a repeated effort to get the deposit back.

Janaka hung a couple of sets of curtains, fixed my sink stopper, and hung a floor length mirror for me. Both the curtains and mirror required drilling into masonry - not your average home improvement task but he made it look easy. Before Janaka arrived, Josh came out to review the work I needed done and provided me great advice for the rest of my list. I plan to keep JW Home Improvement as my first call should I need handyman services again. Per other reviewers, JW might be pricey, but I've been burned before by going with lower-priced services. Worth every penny - and the three hour coupon special on Angie's List made them a real bargain this time!

Excellent. The serviceman (Oscar) was very professional and expert in his skills.

The job was poorly done.I procured a handyman service for 3 hours and had a door repaired (repair was good) and a small bedroom ceiling painted (which was extremely poor). The estimator was pushy and said the work would take 3-5 hours. I asked for the ceiling to be painted and the estimator said, we will do the ceiling and the trim. I didn't ask for the trim! The price for the two extra hours was more than the 3 hours in the special. I had to ask how he did the breakdown of the estimate by time and task, which he seemed surprised that I would ask (felt like i was being taken for a ride)....and I had to purchase all the items - sand paper, roller, dry wall mix, paint etc. They push for the full 5 hours and communicated it as such to the handyman, who was kind but did not work efficiently. It took him 30 minutes to clean up a very small amount of things. The ceiling needed much wall repair with new dry wall/joint compound to even out the lines on one wall which was not done. I could have completed the same work that they did in 1 hour but I purchased the service to fix the wall evenly and do a simple ceiling paint job. I would have not mind paying extra for the total 5 hours but no repairs were made to make the lines even. I had a gallon of paint for the side walls which I had painted recently and purchased a new quart for extra. The handyman had to paint approx. 3 inches or so of the wall in addition to the requested ceiling. The quart paint which the handyman used was not a perfect match from the gallon and the handyman said nothing about the mismatch. He could have used the paint from the gallon which matched perfectly. I had to return to the paint store, have them fix the color and repaint the side walls all over. The company offers the low deal and then pushes for more time beyond the 3 hours, which is unprofessional. I would not use them again nor recommend their service.

He was extremely efficient and helpful and respectful of my time and budget.

Job was bigger than expected. I asked for improved service and I received it.

They sent out a jack of all trades. We needed caulking, a shelf installed, drywall repair, and batteries installed in our smoke detectors. He installed 6 new smoke detectors. He fixed a large hole in a closet that was left by the previous owner. The hole wasn't safe for the kids to be around. He brought all the materials needed and did a really good job. That took up most of the time. We are planning on having them back out. They were very processional and did a really good job.

The work was performed to my satisfaction. The employees seems to take their time and did not seem interested in the fact that the longer they took, the more it cost me. They took way to long to purchase materials. They had an estimator come out and prepare and estimate with quantities and then the actually handymen had to verify his measurements and inform me on changes. Why did they even waste my time with an estimator? To me, it seemed like the estimator was to give me a lower price just to secure the work. Again, the work was done well, my feeling is that it was over priced.

The worker was business like and did a good job, cleaned up properly. Used my supplies.

This was my first deal purchase after joining. After explaining my work scope over the phone, JW Home Improvements came onsite and performed an estimate. It was unexpectedly high so I had to reduce the scope of work. On the day of the work, the assigned handyman, Justin, call me as requested at 30 minutes out. He arrived just a tad outside the window, but that's to be expected given the morning traffic in this area. I had already laid out the materials the night before so Justin went to work right away. He was very efficient, thorough, and quick but not rushed. He answered all my questions as I was curious about the toilet replacement procedure. I had planned for the replacement of 2 toilets using the purchased deal but Justin was able to complete well within the time window so I asked for the replacement of another one plus the kitchen faucet (yay!). Afterwards, he cleaned up and moved all of the old materials to my garage for JW to pick up for an additional fee. We are really happy with the results. Finally, no more clogs!

I haven't had my gutters cleaned yet because, first they said they needed to assess the job (?) and I had to pay $50 to have the assessment done. Then they informed me that I had to pay for the job up front. I will have the job done because I don't want to lose my $50 (which they will apply toward the job) but, I will never use this company again. I have had my gutters cleaned in the past by other companies and I didn't have to pay for an assessment and then pay for the services before they were provided. I have had other jobs done by this company without the up front payment, etc. The workmen that they sent out did an excellent job on these other jobs. I don't have an issue with the work or the workers. It's their administrative end that is difficult to deal with.

JW did a great job. The tile work looks great, as does the new grout. The work was also done quicker than expected, in less than one full day.

Sorry! Don't remember anymore. But two year later impression was he did excellent work.

We’ve hired JW for two projects in our home. The first was in 2014, to install two pocket doors and do a bunch of drywall work, and our experience was fantastic. We brought them back in 2016 to do some plumbing and light construction in our bathroom. There were some significant issues with that project that seem to have stemmed from one particular staffmember, who is apparently no longer with the company, and once we were able to reach the right person to communicate how serious the issues were, JW bent over backwards to resolve them. In particular Sam, the new office manager, went above and beyond to make sure our experience ended well and that we were fully satisfied. JW actually turned a bad experience into a great one, and in spite of the issues we had with that project, we were so impressed by their response that JW’s definitely on our short list for any future projects in our home.

I was very impressed with Renee's work. He went out of his way to make sure the outcome was flawless. He is very conscientious. I plan to ask for him to do another job in our house.

They didn't find a leak in the roof even though the home inspector said there was one. They chalked the problem up to moisture build up from the bathroom exhaust fan venting to the attic and not outside, which I think was correct. Either way the home inspector didn't complain with that result. Fixed the bathroom door very quickly, just tightened some screws. Installed the vapor barrier but did not do a great job as the mold contractor that came after said it needed to be completely re-done. I have the paper work from the mold contractor to prove it. Overall not very unsatisfied because of the price. All they did was re-caulk/paint a section of a bedroom ceiling to fix the moisture issue, tightened a screw or two to fix the door, then do a poor job installing a vapor barrier. All for the outrageous price of $1,800. Basically highway robbery. I won't recommend JW to anyone unless you like to get ripped off. Shop around, I make the mistake of not shopping around because I needed the work done quickly before settlement.

Anyone checking either Angies or Washington Consumer Checkbook will see that this firm gets to do more "handyman" jobs than anyone else. Everything about them is professional. Someone is in the office to take calls. They come on time as promised whether for an estimate or for the job. There is no mess and no surprises. The work is done right. There are folks who might do the job for less--if you can even contact them While JW is not the cheapest handiman service, you get what you pay for.

Josh came out to do the estimate and used good judgement to assign Justin to complete this project, which would involve some tricky maneuvering and keen observation skills. Justin arrived on time and did a fantastic job with my basement insulation project. He was courteous, meticulous and made efficient use of the time while completing the work. There was a good flow of two-way communication, he was very patient, provided honest and useful feedback for the scope of the project.

Good job, but astonishingly took more than six hours.

I wasn’t thrilled with the way it worked out because I’d estimated the need time based upon me hanging the blinds myself and I thought they didn’t use the time efficiently, so I had to pay extra. They showed up with two people and one knew what he was doing and the other was a helper. They could have done it more efficiently than they did. They didn’t bring other trained personnel. It was kind of a tricky to hang the thing because you have to do a configuration to the ladder to be able to get up to it and they didn’t follow my suggestion on how to do it because I had done it and they didn’t listen so it took longer. It was about 50% more.

I was totally happy with them actually. J W they had like three layers of sales people when I bought the deal, I bought six hours labor handyman and labor and they tried immediately to up sell me to a full eight hours day at the full rate and I just say do what you can in six hours and then they sent another guy to do the pricing that was on the phone and then they sent a second guy to do the pricing, he did the same thing to my wife tried to up sell her so she said no just do the six hours and then the time comes to do the work they just drop the guy off and I'm pretty sure they pick up at seven eleven he had no tools no anything, nice guy but clearly wasn't a day laborer didn't have tools didn't have his own tools, he used my tools and the stuff got done it was fine it was okay, it wasn't great workmanship, basically it wasn't any better I could have done it myself.

The initial project inspector was fine. Responsive to exactly what I needed after clarification. He was very punctual, took pictures of what needed to be done, gave me an estimate for additional work, sent a reminder email about what we'd talked about, and was altogether very professional. I can tell the company has their stuff together. Charles, my actual handyman, however, was AMAZING! COULD NOT have asked for a better, more accommodating person to help me out. He's exceptionally personable, very very easy to work with, responsive to all needs/concerns/adjustments (no matter how high maintenance), and went out of his way to ensure I was satisfied. THANK YOU, Charles. To be honest, it's a bit pricey for my blood, but I felt comfortable with them, and needed several things accomplished that i didn't have the time for prior to family visiting, and that would have taken me MUCH longer. That said, I'd certainly use JW and ask for Charles again if I was to hire someone in the future.

We haven't been happy with it so far because we had them come out to give us an estimate on work that we wanted done with the Big Deal and anything else extra as a possibility and they were ridiculously priced for the extra work. And I've been trying to call them back to see what work we can get done just for what we've already purchased and I've emailed several times and called a couple of times and I don't get a response. Then I just got tired of it and had to worry about the holidays. I think it's one of these things where they sort of lure you in to get some work done and all they really want to do is tell you the rest of the work. In their description it says that in their handy man thing, small electrical is something they can do and I even called ahead of time before I called it and they said that was absolutely something that they could do. Then they came out and said that they don't buy any of the equipment and that I just had to wait till they got here to tell me where to go, like Home Depot to buy it myself. The whole thing hasn't been a good experience. They could respond to us and be honest with us as far as what work they will do for our money.

I purchased a 3 hour package deal through Angie's List for this company. I waited more than a week for them to call and arrange service but they never did call or e-mail. I sought and received a refund through Angie's List.

The work was done well and fully. The team of two men were there on time and communicated what they were doing. The finished the job on time and in a satisfactory manner. However, when I received the bill, I found out that it was over the estimate that has been initially provided by Josh, the estimator. My understanding had been that the charge was $110 per hour; however, the invoice noted that the charge was $110 PER PERSON. I had no recollection of this. I contacted the office and spoke to Sam, explained that I would not have agreed to that amount if I had known. He promised that he would find out the discrepancy. However, I did not hear from them for over eight weeks, despite multiple calls. I posted my review on Angie’s List, at which time, Sam contacted me. He informed me that he had reviewed both the invoice and the recording of the call that confirmed the initial estimate. Both noted the charge of $110 per person. He did agree that the company needs to do a much better job informing customers of the per person hourly charge. With that clarification made, I was satisfied and attempted to update my initial review, which was not possible on Angie’s List. I posted a new review that included the updated information but Angie’s List would not accept that review. Hence this letter.
