Very easy to schedule and showed up on time. Purchased the four hour deal though Angie's List and an hour of the time was spent going to Home Depot to pick up some parts. The vanity is now leaking - the pipes don't align properly. I'm waiting to hear back from someone to fix the leak.

The technician arrived at 9:15 am and then proceeded to unload his power washer, put on overalls and take the furniture off the deck. That took 45 minutes. At 10:00 am he said he needed to go to Home Depot to get more detergent, so was gone until 10:45. He immediately started work at 10:45 and stopped at 12:45 pm. He came to the door and said the four hours were almost up and it was going to take him another "hour or two" to finish, at $106 per hour! Asked him if that included the 45 minutes he was gone and he said he would count that as his lunch hour?? So at 1:00 pm he comes back and says I need to talk to Chris at the office. I called Chris and he said the tech had been there four hours and needed more time to finish the job. Asked him about the late start time, the 45 minutes being gone, and the time after 12:45 that no work had been done. He said techs don't normally bring materials with them, so I asked why since they had prior pictures showing the stains. I added that between the late start, the 45 minutes gone and the lack of work since 12:45, that was a loss of over an hour and a half. He called the tech and told him to finish then told me it would be done in less than an hour since I had to leave the house at 2:30. The tech came back to the door and said he would finish but he needed to go get something to eat. That was at 1:20 pm. I ended up leaving for my appointment while the tech was still here. When I returned home at 4:15 the job was done but the patio chairs and side table were still in the middle of the yard. I really have to wonder what would have happened had I not been at the house during this job, and if other of their customers have had this happen and just paid the additional fee. Paying the additional $106 per hour would have gotten the price back to their original price before the Angie's discount.

Gave a poor review initially then was contacted by a representative who told me I would get a discount on future work and some Caps tickets. I said I would take it down and leave a favorable review once the new work was performed. The owner of the company met me at my house to give me a quote on the work I needed done (basically prepping walls & ceilings for paint and also to paint). I am still waiting for the quote and that was almost 8 months ago... ...And I never got the Caps tickets! If you did not see my initial review for JW Home Improvement: 10/17/2016 Description of work: Replacing trim on (2) DORMER WINDOWS. IT TOOK 2 master carpenters 12 hours to do this which is ridiculous! My entire kitchen was installed in less time. GOING 8 HOURS OVER THE INITIAL QUOTE AND WORK SCOPE, KEEPING BUILDING MATERIALS I WAS CHARGED FOR & CHARGING MY CREDIT CARD WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION. DO NOT USE JW UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF... VERY SHADY RUN BUSINESS.

The technician was friendly & did a good job. He bagged the refuse neatly for me. I requested that because JW would have added a $150 removal fee to my bill. My major gripe are their prices. They billed me at $106 per hour. They do good work, but they're very expensive.

The estimator was a few minutes late, but called ahead to let us know. He had an estimate ready for us in a few days. The service coordinator was very accommodating with scheduling the crew he thought was best for the job with our schedule. The technicians were a little early to the job and kept us informed as to what was going to need to be done. They had the job finished faster than expected and it looks great!

Excellent service from start to finish. Josh, our estimator, was fantastic. He was prompt, responsive, polite, efficient -- all around great work on his part. He walked through the job, what it might cost, and how long it would take to get a long list of handyman services done. The job itself was done really well and in half the expected time, which was a nice surprise for me. Really loved working with this team of professionals. Will definitely use them again in the future for large and small jobs. Thanks, guys!

Raymond from JW Home Improvement is an extraordinary craftsman, working with an ease and efficiency that makes difficult tasks look easy. In six hours, Raymond framed an entire attic, built a bed frame, and diagnosed several additional problems that needed to be remedied. He also had many creative ideas how to tackle future projects I had in mind. He also left the workplace in clean condition. We were impressed with his professionalism and enjoyed his friendly presence. I would hire JW Home Improvement again in a heartbeat.

The estimate charges $106 per hour per man. That includes driving time to buy materials, etc. That means the actual cost for labor performed on the house works out to what a lawyer charges, but without the lawyer's overhead... My uncle was a master carpenter and charged $45/hour, and I work my butt off for $60/hour for contract work, with a PhD and 10 years specialized training... Respectfully, JW has priced themselves out of the market. And there are many other providers in DC who are both cheaper and just as good. I bought the Angie's List deal but didn't realize that JW would price in that deal and then some... but should have figured. Was hoping Angie's List would have done the legwork already for me!

Be prepared to pay them rates comparable to what you'd pay a lawyer, accountant, or hourly professional. They charge $106 per hour, for any worker. This includes $106 per hour standing in line at Home Depot to buy your materials. For comparison, other master carpenters in the DC area charge between $45-85. A few of the masters I've heard charge $100/hour... However, these guys typically hire cheaper labor for the grunt work to save on costs... JW Improvement has no such policy, from what I can tell -- it's $106 no matter how much training or experience the worker has. On Yelp, their reviews are much worse than on Angie's List, something's not right.

They did a good job. I would definitely use them again.

The scheduler forgot about putting our appointment on the schedule to do an estimate even though she gave ys a date/time for an appointment. The technician called and had me take a photo if the broken faucet and the replacement we bought, to give back the same price as the deal I purchased. When the guy came to do the repair, he took a look, went outside to talk on the phone, then came back in the house to inform us that he couldn't do the job. A couple weeks later we got a bill with a $0 balance. They did call to see if I wanted to reschedule. I said no.

They did a great job, and kept everything clean. I would highly recommend them.

It went really well once the professional handyman got on the site! Absolute rockstar, he flew through the house and did great quality work. I bought the 3-hour coupon and to maximize efficiency I had all the paints out, walls and stairs blue tapped and pointed so he knew what to fix, etc. Do a little up front work to maximize your time and it is so worth it. Very happy with results. Now the kinda bad part - They will send out a professional to quote the time it will take to complete the work you'd like to have them do. I have done house work before so I know a little bit about a little bit... I went with this service to just get it done in a timely manner. They said they could do probably 3 - 5 things (of about 10) on the list in about 3 hours (it was really all minor patchwork, interior painting, securing a stair, you get the picture.). This part I was not happy about as I had to call a little BS on the time frame quoted (about 6-8 man hours for what the handyman ended up doing in 3)... Just like anything in this industry, the more you know the less you can be leashed around on agreeing with certain quotes. Stick with your 3 hours first and then see what needs to be done after. You can always be quoted for more work...

Alexi, the handyman who did the work, was very efficient in getting the work done in the allotted time. He even saved me the price of an entire new fan when he said only one part of it wasn't of it needed to be replaced. I was very pleased with his work.

Estimator oversold--recommended (and estimated for) using pre-hung doors which would have cost more and required more labor (and disruption; recommended (and estimated for) removing and replacing all grout from shower which actually required caulking only. When I realized that less was needed I called him; he told me to call scheduler. Left message for scheduler outlining desired changes; call never returned. Work actually done was good, and workers were polite and punctual. Completed in two days, not the three originally estimated. However I was billed for three days. When called the company they first insisted that employees had worked the third day (a Saturday when I was home and knew that the work was already completed and employees were not at my house) but eventually agreed not to charge for third day.
