After speaking with them and garnering a quote, they were wanting me to pay for more than double the deal, more than I believe should be necessary. They would not give me an item list to purchase the materials, saying they required purchasing it themselves, but that was taken out of my labor time! I felt the whole experience was a scam and happily got my money back.

I just wanted the deck sanded and they kept insisting it needed to power washed it. They said if they sanded it then they would need to replace some boards. I just was not satisfied with the service and requested a refund for the deal I purchase.

I did not hear from them so I contacted them. They said they needed to schedule an estimate first. The earliest they could get out was about 4 weeks. It was not a large shower stall but they said it would be a 4 to 6 hour job. I had this done a couple of years ago and another company only took an hour to do this. I had to provide my own materials. They told me I would need to give them my credit card before they started work and I said no. They told me I had to call the office to schedule work but I ended up not using them. I will go with someone else.

Angie's list was great! They refunded our payment and helped us find another contractor who did a great job, contacted us right away, and was much closer to the price on the offer.

A representative came out and gave me a vebal quote. I did not like the fact I would pay $106.00 per hour for them to drive to Home Depot or another store from my house, buy materials and then drive to the house to start the job. I returned my purchase from Angie's list before the work was started.

After a misstep regarding an appointment for the JW rep to assess the job (my fault entirely), the JW rep arrived right on time for the second appointment. I started to explain the job. After I told him about needing to have the boards on top of the railing replaced, he said he thought that JW could just about get that done in 4 hours but that any work done beyond the 4 hours the charge would be over $100/hr. I said that if screwing down five boards would eat up 4 hours, that means that JW's worker would be spending nearly an hour screwing down each board! I went on to say that I would also need the floor of the deck power washed. Not the railings, just the 10' x 20' flat floor. He said that he rather doubted that they could complete both tasks within the three hours and that -- again he said -- any work beyond 3 hours would be billed at over $100/hour. I said that the job was not that complicated and surely could be completed within 4 hours. I made a mental note to check in on the worker's progress regularly . . . .and scheduled the work for after Labor Day. But the more I thought of it, the more ticked I became - and suspicious that the job no matter how uncomplicated would not be done within 4 hours and I would stuck paying the oft-quoted $100-plus per hour. Wouldn't YOU be put off if an estimator told you that MAYBE the company could complete the job (which at that point he appeared to think amounted to attaching 5 boards to railing) within 4 hours? I wish to cancel the appointment with this company.

Office staff inflexible on a block rate.

The replacement of the wood molding with composite molding went well the repainting also was perfect.

I felt like they added on extra charges to get back to the same amount before the deal. They were also several hours late.

The job that he did was so good I didn't even want to paint them. He did an excellent excellent job.

It was a great experience to have such professional people work with us. The price was fair and the work perfect. Oscar was our carpenter and he is the most competent and efficient I have ever experienced. The job site was cleaned exceeding my expectations.

Company could not locate my house on day of scheduled repair . Called late with excuse . Asked for refund from Angie's List.

A JW Improvement man rang us to arrange a time to look at the jobs that needed doing. He arrived on time, took photos of the jobs and gave us a quote of the time it would need with cost, we mentioned the Angies List coupon at this time. He took that into account. It was going to take two men 8 hours (worst case/longest time scenario) which was better than one man 2 days. We agreed. About one week or 10 days later the two men arrived, on time, explained what they would do first and why. They both did the Railway post first, then one did the gate, and the other the window box. They were very neat and tidy, cleaned up after themselves. We had a young child who needed to nap, but they were as quiet as they could be. They took photos of the finished work and told us we would be invoiced and left after about 6 and a half hours/7 hours. We were invoiced by the end of the month and paid by Visa.

I am very pleased. The two workmen arrived on time. We walked through what needed to be done. I added a few tasks that had not been discussed prior to the appointment They were taken care of. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome on each of the assigned tasks. I would definitely use this service again.

I hired JW to install a new front door and transom window. As always, JW was timely and professional and got the job done right. Justin Sellers and Chris Brown were a great team and I appreciated all of their assistance.

The estimator and scheduler were fine. Day of work, the works that came did not speak nor understand much English, which made communication extremely difficult. I had to completely re-explain the job, which was supposed to be done by the estimator. The workers seemed to have no idea what needed to be done. One got to work while the other went shopping. The shopper took an hour to go 10 minutes down the road and purchase 2 items. When he returned I was informed he purchased the wrong item and he needed to go back, return that item and purchase something else. I questioned if it would take him another full hour to do this and didn't understand his response. He left, returned the item, purchased something else and returned within 30 minutes (which is as expected). He returned and they got to work. So that they could plug in their power tools, I could not close and lock my door. One of the workers barged into my house three times without knocking before I finally had to stop working to basically guard the door as I was home alone and felt extremely uncomfortable. When it was done, I saw that plywood was used. The estimator and I agreed that PVC would be used as using plywood on the exterior would result in the same problem recurring. I would not have agreed to more plywood under any circumstances. They arrived at 12:45pm and finished at 3pm. I was charged a deposit, so along with my coupon purchase I thought I was due a refund. To my surprise, I received an email saying I OWED them. To sum up - they sent an "estimate" that I never received. The estimator told me the hourly rate was $50, when it was actually over $100 AND they charged an 8% fee. I would NEVER have agreed to this as my current contractor is less than that and does not charge a fee. When I pushed back, they claimed that I agreed to everything but they cannot produce the signed estimate - as I never signed one. It seems like classic bate and switch and my word against theirs and they have my credit card information. Also, I now have to hire someone else to do the job correctly as my attempts to resolve this with them have only escalated the situation. That combined my experience with the workers makes my now prefer to keep them as far away from me as possible.

I signed up for the 4 hour special on Angie's List. JW came to our home, looked about five minutes on the trim repair on our front stoop, came in the house, introduced themselves and then said they wanted to walk around the house to see what else might need to be done. 90 minutes later they presented us with an estimate for four to six days work, 2 technicians at a time. I said whoa, all I want right now Is the front stoop repaired then I might consider more in the future if I am pleased with your work. They estimate was then for 1 ½ to 2 days to do the job- repair wood trim, painting and re roofing the small front door area. We agreed, but said it seemed to be a 1 man job, why now 2 men. They assured us 2 men were needed, totaling now $216 an hour! Two men arrived on April 18, a day I was home and one man, Raymond, did most of the work. He was very good and we are pleased with what he did. The other, went and got supplies and did not do much actual work the rest of the day. Oh well. Day 2 arrived and Raymond did not come back, just the other, and not much seemed to be accomplished that whole day. We were now at two days and the job was not nearly done! Raymond came back alone for day 3 and worked hard but didn't quite finish. Then no one came for more than a week. In the meantime, I got the bill, no itemized details, said this is due- pay now, and the job was not even done. The job was finally finished by Raymond on May 15, almost one month from the start date. We are very pleased with Raymond’s work but the beginning visit and the fact they said two men for what was really a one-man job added money to the cost, and then the .delay to finish (yes there was rain some days) the job led to stress. When I received the final invoice it was 20% higher than the original estimate. I replied to them and they immediately reduced it to the estimate. Thank you Bottom line, Raymond did excellent work but the other hassles we encountered will make us think twice before using them again.

Awesome. The man was very professional and friendly as well.

I will get someone else to do the job. Less expensive, less complicated and more timely. JW Improvement might be better for bigger jobs and not handyman work.

Working with JW's was easy, affordable and just a great experience all around. Josh and Justin were wonderful. Justin did a great job - I would highly recommend JW's.
