I recently moved into an apartment building with a renters insurance requirement. The move happened suddenly and I found I needed to obtain coverage in a hurry. I initially looked at a major company using their online calculator. I quickly found I had no idea what a fair price was for insurance. On a whim I decided to check Angie's List, and it was obvious that Capitol Benefits was well regarded in this area. I used their online form to submit a request for a quote, fully intending to go ahead with a national company by the end of the day. Josh got back to me in a few hours, letting me know that the company I was considering sold an identical product, but that he had a clearly better option for me. I had my quote from him first thing the next day, and it was less than half what I was quoted by the national company. We finalized the agreement a few hours later, and I couldn't be happier. I will be going back to Capitol next time I need insurance.

Alan at Capitol Benefits was fantastic. My husband and I were buying our first home, and the program we used required us to have home owner's insurance prior to settlement. Our original settlement date was scheduled for 12.28.12, and Alan was able put together a policy that met our needs in the allotted time, even with the Holidays intervening. When the mortgage company pushed back our settlement date, lost paperwork, and wanted everything redone, Alan bore with us through the ordeal and got everything turned around in no time at all. Buying a house was stressful in almost every particular. But buying the insurance policy through Capitol Benefits was simple and gave us one less thing to worry about. UPDATE: Nearly two years in, we remain very happy with Capitol Benefits LLC. They've responded immediately any time we've had a question, and do a great job of keeping us informed of anything that could affect our policy. They continue to earn our loyalty and trust, and it's honestly a relief to know that they're handling our home insurance - it's one thing we never have to worry about.

The company has not been able to provide me with another insurance policy yet, but they have been trying their best. They have been very helpful and responsive.

New I've been in my home for 4 years, and was covered by Traveler's homeowner's insurance from the outset. I called them to ask how my policy worked, and would I need to make any alterations to my policy if I rented my home for only two months (while housesitting for my parents)? The Travellers rep I spoke to was inarticulate and not very informed, but after consulting with someone behind the scenes, she told me that Travellers might cancel my insurance simply becasuse I asked that question. Mind you, it was still a hypothetical question at that point. I found Capitol Insurance on Angie's List and learned from the very competent and professional Josh Lavine that all such questions should always be asked of an insurance agent, not your insurance provider. Living and learning... By the time I called Capitol, I was clear I wanted to switch insurance companies whether or not I rented my house. Josh did some digging, and found a company who was willing to insure me with temporary tenants. So I am renting my house. (Josh recommends that I switching back to an owner-occupied policy when I return in two months, and I'm following that recommendation.) He sent me an easy intake form and evaluated my coverage levels without prompting on my part. He made himself available after hours and was always clear about what I could expect in terms of next steps and his response timeline. He made the process easy and has won my business from here on out. It's clear to me that he has the resources and knowledge to shop for insurance in a way that I never could. Do yourself a favor: do NOT deal direct when it comes to insurance.

As a first time homebuyer, I have found that the process of getting homeowners insurance is not something that is cut and dry. I asked several people what I needed to have on my policy and everyone came back with the same answer- with multiple variables involved, it's hard to reference a "template" of what a decent policy looks like and theoretically what it should cost. I also travel frequently for work and am generally short on time like the rest of us. So I went with easy- the same insurance carrier that I have been with the past 10 years (auto policy) trusting them to provide me with a decent quote/policy. Once I had the new quote in hand, I mentioned the price to my realtor and her reaction was that it was a little on the pricey side. So, to compare with one other carrier I was recommended Josh Levine at Capital Benefits. Josh took my current policy/quotes and not only pointed out how poor my auto insurance coverage was (I was led to believe I had excellent coverage) but he got me a new quote, home and auto SEVERAL hundred dollars less than I currently had set up, increased my coverage so that my assets and I are protected in case of an event, made sure I understood the verbiage and policy bells and whistles such as the value of replacing a TV for what it is worth today vs. the depreciated amount. Everything was turned around with lightening speed, there was no pressure to commit, and once I did decide to switch it was done literally with 3 clicks on my laptop. I dealt with the same person through the entire process (a new experience) and he has been reachable and responsive through the Sandy aftermath and the Thanksgiving holiday. The entire process was excellent- incredibly fast, efficient, convenient, and straight to the point.

I had been researching homeowners insurance for a couple of weeks before I contacted Capitol Benefits. I was disturbed by the high quotes I had been getting (sticker shock after having lived overseas for 7+ years). They said they only had one insurance company that they worked with that could insure up to the value of our home AND considering the fact that we have a German Shepherd. We ended up getting about 20% more coverage for about 50% less than what other quotes had been coming in at. That being said, we are insured through a company that is not well known but it still has an A rating. Capitol Benefits was able to provide lots of information about the insurer. So, the true test of any insurance company is how they react when you have a claim. Fortunately we don't know the answer to that one. But, on the surface, it looks like we got a great deal through Capitol.

I contacted Josh with an odd request that our normal homeowners' insurance company was unable to help us with: finding an appropriate insurance policy for a Japanese sword that my husband uses for martial arts practice, including taking it on trips out of the country. Josh was able to locate an insurer of collectibles (also in Maryland) offering a policy that was appropriate not only for this situation, but more broadly applicable to other collections as well-- something of which we will take advantage. This past August a tree in our yard fell on our house during a storm. Josh helped us with the claim, and continued to monitor the situation until the extensive repairs were completed. He interfaced directly with the insurance adjustor to ensure we were receiving the coverage needed. Because of a life changing event (my wife and I are expecting), I found myself in the market for life insurance. I emailed Capitol Benefits to get a life insurance quote and received a response from Alan a couple of hours later. Since our current homeowners and auto insurance was close to renewal, I asked Alan for a quote on those policies and a new umbrella policy as well. I scheduled some time with Alan in his office because I wanted to understand all of my options. I had many questions and Alan patiently answered them all. While I did not think that we would get a better deal on our auto and homeowners insurance package because of a claim on my wife's car, Alan found us a great deal with a well-rated insurance company. Basically, we have better insurance protection for less money. Alan also handled all of the cancellations for our old auto and homeowners policies Because of underwriting requirements and medical tests, life insurance takes longer to issue. These were both new policies for me and my wife. Alan kept us informed throughout the process and, once the policies were issued, drove out to our house with the documents to sign. We could not be happier with the service we received from Alan and Capitol Benefits.

I called Josh for the first time ever while driving to a meeting on a business trip. He was efficient with his questions and followed through numerous times - both over email and via phone. Given that I was on planes, trains and automobiles for a few days during our initial conversations, he always kept in contact with me and got back to me promptly. Based on the reviews this insurance brokerage received on Angie's List, I followed the link to their website, where there was an option to ask them to contact you regarding a quote for insurance. I gave them basic information on our needs and requested someone contact me. To date, I have had no response.

What I appreciated about working with Capitol Benefits was the ability to get answers to specific questions about insurance products and the industry/providers while avoiding pushy sales pitches for other products I did not need or want. I dealt with some other brokers that tried to upsell me to more complex insurance products or financial services which was frustrating. With Capitol Benefits, I felt like I got genuine information and good service from a knowledgable broker rather than some salesman trying to steer me one way or another based on their commission economics. I contacted Capitol Benefits (CB) with 4 other agencies in the list. Alan was the only one to respond to my inquiry and he did it fast.My service request was complicated as it involved 4 different policies (auto, two home, one umbrella, incl. canceling two previous policies and getting coverage for my condo in another state). Despite the complicated nature of interstate agencies at play, their relationship, different policies and requirements, Alan staid on top of the entire process until I got all policies endorsed and the documents in my hand. The products represented by CB are very competitive and the services provided by Alan were timely and right on target to help me solve a somewhat complicated insurance situation. Quotations were shared via email and follow-up questions by email or phone were always handled in an efficient manner.
