1-800 Got Junk

I was shocked to see their web site offered blocks of time on a Sunday! I schedule the window of 1030-1230. They actually called and said they were ahead of schedule and asked if they could come early. Well, absolutely! They showed up as they said. Very professional and courteous. They looked at the TV and gave me a price of $30. How could I refuse? This monster was sitting in my living room for 6 months. I expect the price to be more, so I was shockingly surprised. They put it on the truck, handed me my bill, and they were off. It was all done in less than 20 minutes. I wished I had called them six months ago! Highly recommended.

They come to your house and pick everything up. They are a little pricey but they come and do a good job. They come when they are supposed to come and do a good job.

They were great. I thought they were reasonable. The two gentlemen that came to pick up what I had were very nice and got it done quickly. They were in and out. They come in, they take a look at what you have and they give you a price, and the price was fine with me. They were very friendly and very affable. They gauge by size and weight. They took a look, moved it a bit and said it would a certain price. I had never used them before and I was hesitant because I did not know too much about the company even though you see the adds everywhere. They scheduled a day that they were going to be in the area. I have wood flooring. They took precautions, they did not scrape it or anything like that.

They did a great job. They did not show up on time but they were in constant contact, and when they did come, they brought two trucks because we had talked to them about how much we had. They cleaned everything out real fast and it was pretty trouble-free. I don’t know how much we spent because my husband paid for it. We would use them again in the future.

They arrived on time, and when they came inside told me that the couch and loveseat were in good shape and would probably be able to be donated. One of the movers briefly explained the pricing scheme and quoted me what seemed like a pretty high rate - given how little we had to move. Since I had other furniture coming later in the day, I had little choice and agreed to go ahead. They started with the love seat. We have a narrow flight of stairs to the front door and they had no idea how to move the furniture out. They banged the heck out of the walls and ceiling in the stairway and then left the love seat sitting out on the sidewalk in the rain. They came back in for the second piece, and proceeded to get it stuck in the hallway. They chipped large pieces of plaster off the walls and ultimately ended up having to break the legs off the sofa with a sledgehammer in my stairway - so much for donation. I wrote my check and they left. The same furniture was moved into my apartment earlier this year and no damage was done. I did not say anything but the job done by 1800 GOT JUNK was far from professional.

They sent one small guy to do the job. Even after telling him not to he used a crow bar to leverage the hot tub up on it's side. He and the tub fell partially through the deck after the crow bar ripped a hole in the deck. He couldn't get the job done. He left saying he was getting help and never came back. He left the hot tub turned on it's side stuck in the deck and no one ever called or returned.

They come on time, and they did a great job. The prices are a little high, however, and I was unclear on what a half load or a full load consisted of. However, their service is excellent.

We had a company chop down a large, dead tree in our front yard but they wanted to charge additional big bucks to remove the debris. Rather than pay for removal (they left the tree debris in our back yard) I've been contacting other companies to get price quotes. We've used 1-800-Got-Junk before for junk removal but I noticed now they remove yard waste. I'm not sure if they were doing that when we used them previously. I saw their ad in the Angie's List July 2008 magazine and they offered $10 off for Angie's List members. I checked their website and called 7/22 to confirm and they do remove yard waste. I was able to book an appointment (got the $10 discount) for the next morning, 7/23 and the guys arrived within the 2 hour appointment window after calling to let us know they were on their way to our house. There were heavy logs and lots of branches to remove. They gave us an estimate which was very close to the final price and they offered to pick up additional debris (we are clearing up overgrowth from neighbor's trees) but we declined since it's a work in progress for us. It was nice that they offered. The guys swept up the cleared area and were on their way within one hour of arrival. I was charged half what the company that chopped down the tree wanted to charge for removing it, so I was very pleased. I will call them again for my hauling needs.

Disaster! First, they arrived an hour LATER than the end of their two-hour promised arrival time. Their website talks about a 1/4 truckload, 1/2 truckload, etc., which sounds like it ought to hold a LOT of your junk. Their trucks are VERY small, and therefore their service is EXTREMELY expensive (their website has a diagram of their truck size, but you might not realize just how little trash fits in, say, a 1/2 truck load. This was made worse by the crew, who did not bother to crush boxes or try to organize what they loaded; they just threw it on and if it fit, okay. If it didn't, that's okay too. Their truck left my home with at least 30% of the cubic space inside unfilled. They pulled a bait-and-switch in the sense that I told them in their on-line scheduling form that I needed them to remove an old jacuzzi. When they arrived they gave me a quote (very expensive, but I needed this stuff removed) that included the Jacuzzi. Unfortunately for me, when it came time to move the jacuzzi, they decided it would cost me an EXTRA ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for them to take it away. (I declined; I'll find somebody else to take it away!). It was very hot the day of pickup, so I offered the workmen cool drinks from my fridge. They accepted. After they left, I discovered they'd thrown the plastic bottles under my wooden deck! Their website promises their crews clean up after themselves; however, they didn't even finish picking up all the trash, let alone clean up after themselves. In general, their website promises that you won't have to lift a finger when they come to pick up your junk. Actually, your fingers will probably get tired just from writing ever larger checks to them, because I was told that all work they might do other than pick something up and take it straight to their truck costs extra. As the result, I worked very hard myself in the hot sun (I'm 55 and didn't expect to have to do that) to avoid the very high additional charges they told me would be necessary to finish my junk pickup. As far as I'm concerned, this is yet another example of 1-800-Got-Junk's bait-and-switch policies. Oh, and when they drove away, they managed to drive across my neighbor's front lawn grass. (Yes, they had plenty of room to avoid doing this, but it's consistent with the rest of their performance.) There are a ton of junk pickup services; I sadly cannot recommend 1-800-Got-Junk and regret having called them in the first place.

They were courteous, prompt and pleasant to deal with. They took away all of my items for a reasonable price. I also liked that they took cash, as when I'm dealing with a strange company, I prefer to pay cash. I'm keeping their invoice and if I ever need this service again, I will definitely turn to them.

The men were very cordial and promptly went to work and got the job done, going up and down the basement stairwell, for approximately one-hour and fifteen minutes.

I was impressed with the marketing but it is not what they delivered to me at all. The trucks look a lot bigger in the ad than what they really are and there was a whole bunch of hidden cost added on to my price because what they don't tell you is that they price goes by weight, not by the truck size so you pay for the truck and the weight.

I have used this company many times in the past to haul away several different things. Normally I go on line to there web site and schedule the appointment for a day when I'm off work. If you reserve an appointment on line, you receive a discount. They always arrive on time. This time was an emergency as our basement had flooded and ruined everything. They came right out when I called them. They have always given me good estimates and have never charged over what they quote. I like the fact that they are very personable people.

My overall experience with this company is a C for the overpricing. You do not get the service for the price paid.

I called them to see if they hauled away riding mowers. They gave me a quote of $123 which they told me was based on volume. They had an opening the same day so I scheduled a pickup. They arrived on time. However, the cost to haul it away jumped from $123 to $218 (less $10 for the Angie's List coupon) which I was told was based on the weight of the item. Since I had to make room in my garage, I paid the $208 and they hauled it away. The work performed was fine though I was disappointed that the price difference between the quote and the actual price was so high.

As mentioned previously, we had a lot of junk that needed to be removed from the house prior to closing. The 2-man crew showed up on time and completed a phenomenal amount of work in just about an hour. Well worth it.

Booked on-line, showed up SAME DAY on time, polite. I just pointed out what I wanted removed and they took it away. Price is based on how big the load is, which is sort of a guessing game. Haggling at the end helps.

They tried to estimate over the phone, but it was difficult to quantify how much volume huge piles of construction debris occupy. They arrived on time and updated their phone estimate after taking a look at the job, giving their reasoning and asking if I concurred. I agreed and they were very efficient in hand-carrying all of the debris to their truck. In the end, all of our trash did not fit in the truck, so they offered a fair discount on our agreed price or would arrange another trip to pick up the remainder. Nice. They did not volunteer to sweep the walk when done as implied in ads containing a picture of a man with broom in hand, which would have been a nice touch.

I was very disappointed with the whole experience as it seemed as if the people that I talked to on the phone were from an entirely different company than the two guys who came to do the job. I come to find out that the person at the other end of the phone was in Canada, and according to the one of the movers "they don't know anything about local customs concerning size limitations at our dump, and they don't tell us anything". I called to complain and the rep on the phone assured me someone would call me back. They never did. The company gets a "B" for responsiveness only because the two guys who showed up called to let me know when they would arrive and they did do what work they could, but the headquarters would get a "D" for not calling me back. I learned my lesson: if you're hiring haulers, go with a local company.

Excellent service, very responsive to emails or phone calls, came when they said they would, estimated the cost of the job, and did it the same day I called.

Extremely fast service. I made the appointment one afternoon and they were able to come the next morning. Outstanding service. The drivers were prompt, even a bit early, polite and professional. They reviewed the amount of material, explained the pricing system and estimated the cost, so I had some idea from the start how much the completed job would be. I highly recommend this company and plan to use them again myself.

I contacted this company on June 29 and they arrived on June 30. Brandon and Joel, two young men, called and arrived just about the time they said they would. They were very polite, professional, and worked diligently to remove all the junk from the crawl space. I feel I paid a very fair price for such a nasty job. I will not hesitate to call upon them again to help clean out my attic. I tipped them $20 for lunch, they were that hardworking!!!
