David Scurto and Diana Peters-Scurto started Dave's Mechanical Services, LLC in 2006. Dave brings 35+ years of industry experience to Dave's Mechanical, and Diana brings years of administrative and construction experience. Dave and Diana work together, as a team, to ensure your complete satisfaction through technical competence and quality service. Dave has always had a knack for solving problems and is known for his mechanical abilities and resourcefulness. Before this business began, Dave's friends, family and neighbors kept him quite busy with small and large jobs, as well as favors. Dave began providing service to the Frederick, MD area over 35 years ago. During this time, he also provided quality service for local and out-of-state HVAC/R corporations as a highly trained technician and field supervisor. As Dave's own business grew, so did his knowledge in this diverse field of HVAC/R technology that has exploded over the past several years. Word spread about Dave's quality services and great rates. Dave became very busy, and teamed with Diana to better serve his growing client list. What had started as a part-time business has grown and matured into a streamlined, prompt customer-service-oriented company that has always, and will always, maintain the basic principles for which it was founded. We are fully licensed, trained and insured. Many of our customers have become friends over the years and recommend us to their friends. Call us today and see for yourself!

Dave came over to my house to look at my outside heat pump. It was squealing very loudly. He came into the house & looked at the inside unit. My husband got to the house about 5-10 minutes after he arrived. He looked around a few minutes and told my husband that my outside fan motor was bad and needed replaced. He also said the inside unit needed new heat strips. My husband asked him if we replaced the outside fan motor, would we get heat within the house. Dave told him yes. Then he left and told my husband he would get me a quote for the heat pump and for the whole furnace system if it needed replaced. In the meantime, Davie's wife, Diane, called me and said the fan motor replacement would cost $395. She said if replacing it, it would not heat the inside because of the bad heat strips. She said that we could not order the heat strips for this 30 year old GE model heat pump and that we had to replace the whole system (inside and outside) and she quoted me $4200. I told her I would not do anything right now, and would get back with her after I would get a second opinion. Then, Dave called me to tell me that the heat strips were bad and that he could not order parts for a 30 year old GE unit and that we had to replace the inside and outside units. I asked him how he knew the heat strips were bad and he said, "He just knew." I asked if he used a meter to test the heat strips, and he said, he did use a meter to test them. I said, "My husband said he came to the house and you had not taken the cover off the unit to test them." He said, "No I didn't take the cover off before your husband came to the house." I said, "Then, how did you know the heat strips were bad?" He started getting loud and he said, "Well you called me! And they didn't work did they? So that's how I know." I said, "So you didn't take the cover off the unit and use the meter to test the heat strips." He said, "No - so are you questioning my integrity?" I said, "I know that you have to hook up a meter to them to test them, and you did not do that. Also, how do you know the GE parts can not be ordered." He said, "Because they don't sell GE products anymore, so you can't get parts for them." I called another HVAC company and found out that YES, you can order parts for this GE product, if you get the make, model, and serial number - you can cross-reference them to find other parts that are compatible.

We gave a free courtesy diagnosis on her system, which was not producing any heat. 's system is 30+ years old. The indoor unit heater strips are bad. The outdoor unit condensing fan motor is bad. The indoor unit is made by GE. GE went out of business for HVAC in the 1980s and thus the heater strips are not available and cannot be cross-referenced. Replacing the motor in the outdoor unit would enable heat however the indoor unit heater strips were needed in this past winter's frigid temperatures. We gave g a fair quote for the motor and for replacing the entire system. We are sorry is upset that her heater strips are not available. We stand behind our diagnosis and recommendation.

I moved into this house in July 2012. Beginning in February 2013, the heater started only working on and quot;emergency auxiliary heatand quot;. In March the air conditioner was not blowing cold air. I requested an inspection (by another service provider) and the refrigerant line was completely empty; a leak in the system had resulted in complete depletion of the refrigerant. A new system was recommended by the inspector because the refrigerant the old system utilized is being (gradually) phased-out of the market and this was the original heat pump (17 years old). so it was beyond the and quot;averageand quot; lifetime. I obtained two separate quotes to repair the old unit, which was (almost unquestionably) cost-prohibitive. Therefore, I began getting estimates on various new heat pump systems. I obtained quotes from five different vendors for 13 different system configurations. The prices on those estimates/quotes ranged from just above $5,000.00 to a little under $9,000.00. The disparity in the quoted prices from the different vendors, sometimes for the exact same products, was amazing and completely startling! I ended up choosing Dave's Mechanical because Dave Scurto (President of the company) personally came to my house to provide the estimate. He arrived on-time as scheduled. He dispelled some of the other and quot;mythsand quot; I had been given by the other vendors who had previously come to my house. I really felt he was trustworthy throughout our discussion, something I can say about some (but not all) of the other folks who provided me with quotes. He was straightforward and very knowledgeable. He also personally stood behind the products he sells, as evidenced by the fact that the same unit(s) are on his own property (which I personally verified when I subsequently visited the office). Jody was the primary technician who first arrived the morning of the installation. Jody was GREAT! He was very personable, friendly (but professional), and knowledgeable; he explained things to me as they were moving along throughout the day. He and a team of about four other individuals worked throughout the day to remove the old system and install the new system. Dave was on-site for about half the day overseeing things, as he promised he would be when I agreed to sign a contract with his company. Dave then returned upon completion of the installation to inspect/review things with me. Diana Peters-Scurto, Vice President of the company, is also an absolute pleasure to work with. She was always responsive to my inquiries, very knowledgeable, and extremely helpful in countless ways. She facilitated the process with the registration of the product for the manufacturer's warranty, completed all the paperwork for the local energy company's rebate, and also did everything behind the scenes for the manufacturer's rebate. She made the entire process very painless for us! The warranty/guarantee Dave's Mechanical offered us was great compared with those of the other vendors. I highly recommend Dave's Mechanical Services, without any reservation, to anyone needing quality, reliable, professional HVAC service. After all the time and energy UI spent learning about heat pump systems and getting quotes from various companies, I am very thankful I decided to go with Dave's! And, as I write this review more than a year after the system was installed, I can say I have had not a single problem! We made it through the heat of last summer and the harsh winter of 2013-2014 without a single problem. I can honestly report that Dave's Mechanical Services provides exceptional service and fantastic products!
Description of Work: Dave's Mechanical Services installed a new 3-ton, 16-SEER heat pump condensing unit (R410A refrigerant) on the outside of my detached single-family home; the outdoor unit was placed on a new condenser pad on the ground. They also installed a new 3-ton multi-position 16 SEER variable-speed air handler in the basement of my home. They also installed a new (larger diameter, 7/8") refrigerant line between the new outdoor and indoor units, a new programmable thermostat, and an additional supply register in the ceiling of my basement, per my request.
