S & J Painting & Remodeling

I would not hesitate to call them for an estimate and hire them for painting jobs. I was a bit disappointed when I asked for the coupon discount after we had accepted the estimate and Jerry said he had already given us his best price as we were repeat customers. But in all fairness, he made some adjustments and we are happy.

Both the owner (Jerry) and the painter who performed the work (Nahum) responded to my phone calls and questions timely and courteously. Nahum kept me well informed of the work that would be done each day. I was at home much of the time and he was very good about working around me and respectful of my space. He readily helped me move some items I had not gotten to before he arrived, and he removed all blinds for me. For everything, his attitude was 'don't worry I'll take care of it' and he did. The paint job looks great. The main level is an open floor plan and several sharply contrasting colors were used. All lines where the color changes are very straight. There were several problems that needed extra attention; a couple of examples: (1) Prior to painting, I had some railings replaced with 1/2 walls which resulted in two new walls coming into the existing wall, all in the same plane. This work was done at two separate times, and there was unevenness where the walls came together. This was in a small space without much room to fan out any repair work. Nahum smoothed this out and it now looks like all walls were installed as one; (2) A builder installed bay window seat was made from wood with fairly sever imperfections. I was going to have it replaced. However with aggressive sanding (and probably other work too), it looks like new. Overall, the work was high quality for a great price. I will use them again.

The estimator came promptly within 2 days of our first call to the S&J office. He game us his business card and told us that he would get back to us with an estimate. Much to our surprise we did not receive any follow-up information. I called back in early February to both the main office and the estimator directly. The estimator replied that he didn't remember the details of the job but would check on his records and get back to us right away. Ten days later, we still have not heard back from him. This has been very disappointing based on the great things we read about the company on Angie's list.

Jerry was prompt and professional in returning our initial call for an estimate, making an appointment and providing an estimate. We were very pleased with the quality of the workmanship and were especially pleased with Nahum, the painter Jerry sent to work on our home. Nahum was prompt, professional, and scrupulous in his attention to detail. I sometimes feel very concerned about people being in our home when we're not there, but that was not the case with Nahum. Some of the walls had not been painted in a long time and two of the walls were bare sheet rock. Nahum did an outstanding job.We have some more painting/remodeling projects and we will use S&J again and specifically request Nahum.

Jerry responded to my voicemail message within 48 hours and scheduled an appointment to view the home. He arrived on time and viewed the areas requiring repair. After viewing the work, Jerry said he does not serve Baltimore City. Now, one of the reasons I called him is because his posted response to "Serving Area" is "Entire Area". This left me a week behind schedule since we scheduled his visit for the week after our conversation. I think he should update the serving area to state "Baltimore County" which reflects what he told me after the site visit. Or, alternatively, he should get a better feel for the job before the site visit.

They did a number of jobs on a house I inherited that I intended to turn into a rental building. They did very good work. It was a hard project, because I didn't live in the home. The man had to be very independent. I asked him for advice on paint and things. He did a really good job keeping in touch with me.

Jerry provided a fair estimate and was flexible with start date. Carlos the painter did excellent work - sharp lines, great patching and very clean and neat. With only one painter, the job took longer than I expected but the results were well worth it. I would use S&J again.

Jerry, the owner, provided a bid very quickly, and it was very reasonable. He told us exactly when the painter would be available, and the painter, Carlos, showed up right on time. He worked quickly and well, and the rooms look great. He cleaned up each day, and minimized the impact of his work on our family. Jerry estimated four days of work, and he was right. He was easy to contact and returned our calls quickly. We would not hesitate to call S & J for further projects.

They did an excellent job. They helped me choose paint colors and it turned out beautiful. They went ahead and did some decorative touches for me that I love. The owner, Jerry, was very personable and honest. They were very accomidating. Everyone showed up on time. They were consistant workers and very contientious of details.

Jerry was very flexible in meeting with me and scheduling the work. The estmiate was very reasonable, the quality of work was exceptional, and the two painters (Nestor and Carlos) very professional. I would definitely use them again.

Overall quality of workmanship was very good, although finished a few hundred dollars over budget and a week over time estimated for completion.

Fantastic. Alex was on time, professional, personable, and an expert painter. The only painter I will ever use in the future.

We hired S&J based on Angie?s list reviews, the fact that they?re a local company, and the price. Steve Brownley was very prompt and responsive in coming out to give us an estimate. Their bid was substantially lower than another we?d received (which we had felt was way overpriced). We were on a tight time schedule due to wanting to get the drywall work done before some other work we had scheduled for a different part of the house. They were able to schedule the job to meet our needs. We made a number of minor changes to our project, both before the work started and during construction, and they were very flexible in working with us. They located a pull-down that fit our attic entrance, which is fairly small. They also gave us some good advice regarding a part of the project that we wound up deleting from the contract (switching the direction of a door). I did have to point out a couple of places where some things needed to be corrected (a stud that wasn?t straight, a crosspiece that wasn?t quite level, and a door rub at the closet). Steve had the workers correct every problem I spotted, but I was kind of disappointed that I had to be the one to spot it. After the work was done, we discovered a small plastic piece was missing off of the closet door (it still works). Overall we were happy with the final result. The finished drywall looks nice. We were especially pleased with the care that was taken in painting the front entrance, because there are several plants there that my wife was concerned might be damaged (they weren?t). The job did run a day longer than expected. Considering the price we paid, we are quite satisfied.

They were the best price; however I would not rate them excellent in regards to the quality of the work. I was expecting a team of painters to come out and do the work and instead they sent out one person who spoke broken English. We had a hard time communicating with each other and I had to constantly keep on him about doing things. I was like his supervisor and I felt that was not my role. I would not use them again if they were to send out the same man to do the work. I was looking for a team of professional painters who would come out and knock the job off and instead I got one painter who came out every day for seven days during which I was constantly supervising him and being uptight about doing so.

Jerry came and provided an estimate on the spot. He was easy to work with and quickly understood what I wanted done and the paint I preferred. A start date was established. On day one his crew (of 2) was a little late getting started but once they did they were there everyday and put in a full day. There was a problem with the paint color after the crew had painted some of the doors. Apparently the paint store gave them the wrong color paint. But Jerry dealt with it right away and the problem was rectified with no hassles. The job took a little more time than was anticipated. But when it was done it was fabulous! The crew was neat, always cleaned up and kept the paint and supplies contained. I would highly recommend Jerry.

Extremely well - they followed up with our initial phone call that day, and were out 2 days later for the estimate. 3 days later they did the repairs, and even worked on the weekend knowing we had a timeline for the repair. You wouldn't know we'd had any damage to any of the ceilings. They did an expert and very professional job. We are making a list of 'handyman" things around the house that need to be done - we'll definitely have S&J do the job. Highly recommend.

The experience was wonderful. They did the big sunroom first and it was absolutely the best paint job I?ve seen; my father was a house painter so I notice good work. They were efficient, the price was better than any other that I got, and they were very accommodating.

The workers were prompt, professional, and did a great job. Would definitely recommend this company, I have used them twice now, and both times, they did excellent work!

It went well. They performed the job right and on time and they worked very well with me. They came when they said they would.

Jerry, the owner, came out right away for the estimate. I decided to buy the paint myself so the price was for labor only. On the day the men were supposed to start, they arrived 45 minutes late because they apparently got lost (our house is right off Connecticut Ave.). Not sure what time they arrived on the following days because I was not there to greet them. The work took a little longer than expected due to the detailed trim work in the family room. However, this was not a problem for us as we were not living in the house at the time. I gave them a 'B' for quality because there were some areas that should've been spackled prior to painting that weren't. The walls are plaster and wood trim so not the easiest material to paint over. Besides the lack of spackling and being late on the first day, the rest was "A" work. The price was very fair and in the end we are very happy with the result. Paint goes a long way in transforming a room. We will consider using them again for our exterior paint.

Jerry's crew was great. we were not living in the house at the time, so i offered for the workers to stay there. my wife wrote on the sides of the paint cans where in the house they go, as well as made a list. they crew did a wonderful job. when they had questions, they called to make 100% certain they were doing the job correctly. the entire project took 3 days, for 2 guys! great work! when we had the gutter taken off, after the job was completed, and jerry was paid in full, he sent his guy back out to paint under the gutter-at NO EXTRA COST.

I did ask if they could take one of my stair spindles with them to match my stairs.... they took one and I have never heard back from anyone. I did leave a message with Bob with no phone call back.

Jerry's painter Carlos, was extremely detailed, dliligent and overall a really good painter. Jerry was very professional to deal with and wanted to ensure we were 100% satisfied.

Process was smooth. A single painter came and worked 2 days and did an outstanding job. Absolutely no problems. Jerry was great to deal with.

Arranged for painting to take place while I was not there. Job was well done and neat. Water damage in corner was not fixed because he hadn't brought the right products -- didn't know about it. When I arrived everything was done. He responded quickly; was able to do job even sooner than planned when something opened up. Willing to believe me when I said I'd send a check.
