We brought the color. They painted. They were respectful and hard working. Owner popped over after about two hours because he was on another project. Wife came home and was pleased.

The estimate appointment went well, and Jerry emailed the contract in 2 days. The price was midway between 2 other bids. We ended up putting off the work for 6 months, but Jerry still honored the bid. There was an additional fee for trim that needed to be replaced to fit the windows better after the drywall was installed- I gave the worker some money, and he returned with the trim and a receipt for the materials. Jerry was able to get a crew out within a week. The first day they arrived about 30 minutes late, but the next 2 days they were on time. The workers were pleasant and efficient. They were eager for any input or concerns. They prepped and covered all our belongings before work, and cleaned up each evening. Jerry called to check on how I thought it was going each day. The work was completed on time and was excellent! I am already planning to hire them again for my next project!

Steve and Jerry Dix, S&J's co-owner, had excellent communication and were responsive to the fact that we needed to start the job ASAP. (Mold could be seen growing under the linoleum and I was convinced that our 60lb dog was going to fall through the floor since we didn't know how extensive the damage was.) The initial estimate for the subfloor issue was significantly higher since repair seemed like it would involve jacking up the floor and then fixing resulting ceiling cracks, but the problem turned out to be much more isolated than anticipated. (Whew!) Steve reduced the amount accordingly, to the point where I spent just slightly over half of what I initially expected to pay. Steve and the two men who worked with him were punctual, efficient, and trustworthy. We had an excellent experience and fully intend to use S&J again when we install hardwood and renovate our kitchen.

All work (including the initial estimate) was started promptly on the day/time quoted and Jerry followed up after each step (carpentry, painting) to ensure that the work done was what we were expecting. Workers always cleaned up by the end of each day and left the area orderly. Jerry at S&J was very responsive to a few issues that arose and had people out next day to fix, no hassles at all. I was very happy with their responsiveness and professionalism, would definitely use again.

The owner Jerry Dix came out and did the estimate with me, was observant of a few details I had missed, and sent me a written estimate within a week. I needed the work done within a month, and he agreed to this, and made a couple of minor contract changes that I had requested. He kept in touch regularly, introduced me to his foreman on the first workday, and kept on checking whether I was satisfied. His company did a great job, and good cleanup at the end.

Nice guys, good communication, but price was far from the best price I got...I wish many more contructors would understand-real estate bubble is gone and economy is bad-it's time to be smarter with prices... No good price-no business....:)

They were very flexible working around the dates we needed. The paint job went smoothly and they did everything they said they'd do--multiple coats, daily clean-up, making sure we were happy with the final product, etc.

S&J responded to my email inquiry for an estimate in a timely manner. Since it was exterior painting, they came by and did the estimate while I was at work. When I agreed to the job, he was unable to schedule me right away, and then when he did schedule me, no one showed up. However, they did come two weeks later, and did a very nice job.

Was not impressed. Like the previous evaluations and was looking forward to having them quote.

My experience with them wasn?t so terrific. The paint job was okay, but there were a lot of other things that wasn?t perfect and there were some things that I did not like with the way they responded. The owner came out and talked to me and said that they were busy and backed up and then 3 weeks went by and I asked him if we were going to do this or not. He said I can fix you in and we had to work around our vacation and he said we will try to get this done before you go away. It did not happen till after we got back and it was bumped up again. My husband and I are professors and in the month of August we go back into our holes and start preparing our classes and the summer is over for us. He was here then and that was a real nuisance because we had to confine the dog, get our work done and all the stuff that we were quite prepared to do in June, and I wasn?t real happy with it. They sent one guy out and he was here for 5 days and it was somewhat a difficult job because we have an old house and the stair wall has really high ceiling and you go. The price was very good and the guy that came was very sweet, nice and painstaking. He kept saying that his forte is repairing plaster and he did and repaired the cracks and it was great. I got around after him at the end of the day and vacuumed or swept up plaster that he sanded and the first day he did that I could have sworn he had painted over some of the plaster that was on the baseboards. The two things that were disconcerting was even though he had easy access to the basement and had 2 flights of stairs where he could come down and wash his brushes out in the basement. I asked him to do that instead of using the upstairs bathroom sink and he did not, he kept using it and must have forgotten and I wasn?t real happy with that. The other thing was when my husband and I paint, we take the radiators off and paint behind them, but he did everything behind the radiator, except a strip of wood which was about 10 inches long and that really bugs me. They called me and wanted to know if I was going to rate them and I told them about this and they offered to send someone out to paint behind the radiators. I did not want to deal with them anymore and they weren?t bad people and the paint job looked fine. I would use them again, but I was not happy just because they sort of forgot about us and sandwiched us in. They sent this sweet bumbling guy that did not quite know what he was up to and that bothered me. He did a splendid job of fixing a lot of hairline cracks and it looked beautiful. We spent about $1,000 on that work and that was probably worth it because the hallway was difficult. There were a lot of doors, door frames, high ceiling and they had to do the ceiling again.

The whole experience went well, better than I expected. They were professional, prompt and tried their best to do a good job. I'd selected high quality paint in several colors. I had a deadline which they met. I was very happy.

I showed him the work to be done and I got an estimate from Jerry, he gave me a day rate and a quick date for the work. I later called Jerry and asked if we should use composite (recommended by another contractor) instead of wood for the trim replacement and Jerry said yes but it might look a little different. It was fine. I told him I would get the composite and painted it (it was too cold to paint outside) and I didn't want the wrong color all winter. The workman called at about 8:30am when he was due and said his truck broke down so he was unable to come. I spoke with Jerry later and he assured me that the workman(Elias) would be there the next day or two. By the end of the day I asked when the workman would arrive and Jerry told me that the workman would be there between 8 and 9 the next day. The next day at 7:30 the workman arrived and he asked if his friend could work with him. It was fine with me. He reviewed the work to be done and he had to get the equipment he needed and it would take five min. About an hour later he returned and replaced the trim, caulked and touched up the paint. He with his friend assisting, did an excellent job. He completed the other jobs. When he replaced the garbage disposal I had bought and I started the dishwasher to make sure it all worked, he said it was not necessary. After he left I found the dishwasher would not drain. Luckily I had a plumber coming late that afternoon to find a leak and he fixed the disposal problem. The knock out plug had not been removed. All other work was done well. I think they excel at carpentry and painting. Everyone was willing and pleasant.

Low price, 2 man crew (sometimes 1), steady work, clean and neat, started after my neighbor's and finished before, would definitely use again.

I saw the great reviews on Angie's List for S&J so I called to obtain an estimate. Jerry responded right away and we scheduled a mutually convenient date for them to start. Jerry, Nestor and Roberto came when they said they would. I gave them the money to obtain the parts from the local Home Depot and they brought back the receipts. Nestor and Roberto worked hard and did a phenomenal job. I thought the job was done very well, and with the 10% Angie's List discount, you can't beat the price!

In the end they did a pretty good job, but there was a mix up because they originally painted the outside of our house with interior paint. They had to paint it all over again. My husband found the cans of paint they had been using under the back porch. It was such a big mistake to make. They didn't cover our windows when they painted the second time. They left some empty cans of paint under the back porch, but otherwise the cleanup was okay.

Estimate was given promptly. The price was the lowest of three estimates. However, the contractor would not take the Angies List coupon, because he said he had already given me his best price. I thought this was misleading to put in a coupon and then say I couldn't use it. The painting was done by an employee of the company. He was very nice, but forgetful. Twice he arrived without the proper materials and then left for extended periods to get them. However, the owner knew I had a deadline, so one of the days, he sent a whole crew so that the project would stay on time. I was not satisfied with the results of the ceiling, where the painter was supposed to cover an old leak water spot. however, when I told him, he sent the painter back the next day to fix it. I thought the painters were very neat and did a nice job.

They interaction was great. I have no complaints. I haven't decided who to use yet.

We started out with a couple of areas needing work, but after talking to Jerry about how they work, and the costs, we were comfortable adding more work. The wallpaper was not easy to remove; some wall repair was needed, and then they used an oil based primer. Carlos was the employee who worked here, and he was very careful, did some extra touches, and worked hard. We had them do the prep work in the kitchen and sunroom, then waited several weeks while countertops were installed. They then came back to finish the painting. Their flexibility, quality of work, and price were all very good.

They responded to my request very quickly, which is almost a miracle in this day and age. I was very disappointed with the amount of callbacks that I spent my time calling. He had somebody out here to do the estimate very quickly. He emailed it to me and I didn't have to remind him. The estimate was very clear in terms of the description of the job, what materials he was going to use and the price. It was a very good well-written estimate. He told me upfront that it would take a while for him to free up a contractor. I was fine with that. He said it would take a couple of weeks and it did take that time. My husband was very pleased with the way they did it. He said they used the right kind of materials and did it correctly. The only bad thing about the experience was there was a coupon for ten percent off and we downloaded it. When we tried to use that coupon he said that we couldn't use it. I think he underbid the job. He had priced things on wood materials but we wanted composite. They did a very good job and we were satisfied with the price, but their labor per hour was a little pricey. I kept their invoice, which says a lot.

They were very professional, mannerly, on time, they did what they said they would do and they did an excellent job. They did a very neat job and took good care of my furniture. I couldn't have asked for better people.

A very professional job from start to finish. In addition to the excellent prep work and painting, the painter clearly explained each step in the process, covered all furniture and floors, cleaned up each night, worked quickly and quietly, and once the job was done, cleaned up thoroughly. We were thoroughly happy with the work.

S&J is a great group of people. Jerry does the paint and Steve does the contractor work. Both are wonderful individuals who I would not hesitate to use again for any job I have in the future. S&J excells in their painting work, but their construction work isn't far behind. The only reason that I wouldn't recommend S&J is that they soon will become too busy to respond to my future jobs :) Seriously, S&J is a great find. They are absolutely one of the 'best bang for the buck' businesses around.

I would not hesitate to call them for an estimate and hire them for painting jobs. I was a bit disappointed when I asked for the coupon discount after we had accepted the estimate and Jerry said he had already given us his best price as we were repeat customers. But in all fairness, he made some adjustments and we are happy.

Both the owner (Jerry) and the painter who performed the work (Nahum) responded to my phone calls and questions timely and courteously. Nahum kept me well informed of the work that would be done each day. I was at home much of the time and he was very good about working around me and respectful of my space. He readily helped me move some items I had not gotten to before he arrived, and he removed all blinds for me. For everything, his attitude was 'don't worry I'll take care of it' and he did. The paint job looks great. The main level is an open floor plan and several sharply contrasting colors were used. All lines where the color changes are very straight. There were several problems that needed extra attention; a couple of examples: (1) Prior to painting, I had some railings replaced with 1/2 walls which resulted in two new walls coming into the existing wall, all in the same plane. This work was done at two separate times, and there was unevenness where the walls came together. This was in a small space without much room to fan out any repair work. Nahum smoothed this out and it now looks like all walls were installed as one; (2) A builder installed bay window seat was made from wood with fairly sever imperfections. I was going to have it replaced. However with aggressive sanding (and probably other work too), it looks like new. Overall, the work was high quality for a great price. I will use them again.
