S & J Painting & Remodeling

Jerry came out very quickly to give an estimate, and he gave us a cheaper price for MORE work than an estimate we received from another company. Jose and Carlos were incredibly efficient and the quality of their work was excellent. They were amazingly unobtrusive, especially given that almost the entire inside of our house was being painted. Everything was left neat and clean and there were no paint drips or splatters anywhere. I'd definitely use S&J again!

They informed me that they did not handle my area.

They sent one painter Nayeem? He prepped,primed and painted over a 4 day period (it was orginally estiamted to take 3 day and they did not charge for the extra day). He was there each day on his own with no issues. The price included the paint - Benjamin Moore. The hall/stairwell outcome was great and they left no paint spots etc. very clean.

They were very responsive--I had requested an estimate online and when the owner came he thought it would be better if he got his plumber to come since it was mostly plumbing and tiling work. He came right away and was willing to do just what we asked, since my husband was doing part of the bathroom remodel himself. He admitted that he was not a master plumber but seemed to have a lot of experience. We decided to put the project on hold, however, so did not use them.

They were professional. I felt that their pricing was okay, but I decided to go with a different company.

Was contracted by Jerry and schedule a day for estimate to be performed. To my knowledge no estimate was done becuase I haven't received any further communication - even after sending he another email to find out what happened.

It is unbelievable what they did. They do great work. My ceiling looks brand new and he went above and beyond what we asked for at the time. After repaining the whole in the ceiling, he painted the whole ceiling instead of just painting the new section of the ceiling. Every time I walk into the room I am amazed. One guy did it all by himself in one day. And their owner Jerry is fantastic as well!

THEY WERE FANTASTIC. They truly did a great job. And the timing to complete was tight, as the window to complete work was very short between closing and my move in date. His team was prompt, professional and really made my home look brand new with the quality of the wall/ceiling work, and the crispness of the edging.

The owner, Jerry Dix, is responsive to he customers and has a crew of good painters. In particular, Nahum is outstanding and I would request him when hiring S and J Painting. They are all a plesure to work with and strongly recommend them.

S &J painted and repaired cracked plaster. Completed th work in a couple of days. Paint colors were close but the paint was not the paint I choose from sample swatched from Home Depot paint. S&J used their own supplier.

We moved to Maryland on a military relocation and needed a reliable contractor to paint the short sale we were going to purchase. We interviewed 3 contractors and selected S&J. They were able to start the day after settlement and performed what would be considered a moderate rehab in less than 5 days. At first, we only had painting on the list but then we added: electrical, replacement of 2 toilets, removal of a knee wall, foyer light install, replacement of all interior doors and closet doors with contemporary doors, change all doorknobs and hinges from brass to oil rubbed bronze, hang curtain rods, remove gutter guards, and clean gutters. The crew was always professional and did an awesome job. Our home was built in 1979, but thanks to S&J it doesn't feel 33 yrs old. We will use them for future jobs on our home and have also shared their contact information with our friends and neighbors.

Jerry was by far the most repsonsive to my many calls and requests for estimates. I received an estimate quickly, it was exactly what I asked for (no "needed extras" that I didn't want), and was reasonably priced. His team was professional, curteous, efficient, and highly skilled. I can't tell where the old wall stops and the new wall begins. They did a great job matching paint and making my basement look ilke new. They also cleaned upafter themselves well each day. The job took a little longer than estimated, but I was not charged for the additional time. They worked around my schedule and within my budget. I would definitely turn to S&J Painting for my next project.

The ceiling looks fantastic, there's absolutely no evidence of the repair. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the team. The first thing they did when they began the job was to place drop cloths from my front door all the way to the dining room. Jerry will be the first person we call for our next repair!

The painting project cost was based on labor and material for block coat, skim coats, sand, prime, caulk, and paint for two rooms, one bathroom, and stairway/foyer. The carpentry work was based on three days of labor plus material. S&J offers a reasonable bid, though it was not the lowest bid. We actually had to terminate contract with another painter after painting one area. Jerry Dix, Jose Orellano, and Jose Elias Romero are pros, and they worked with us.

Jerry was prompt and responsive. The team was a good team. The painting was well done for most of the house. They did a good job with carpentry work that was necessary prior to painting. We found a few things that were not done as well as the other parts but these were quickly fixed while the workers were still here. Our only criticism is that occasionally the only person who spoke English well had to leave for another job and it was almost impossible to communicate with the remaining crew. Overall, a very good job and it feels great to be in a house that is freshly painted and carpentered.

I spent $700 on their services. I will use their services again in the future.

The experience was everything you could hope for from start to finish. Jerry was highly responsive when I first engaged them and very accommodating to my schedule in meeting to review the work. He supplied an estimate very promptly that was among the lowest I received. I was impressed by his professionalism and the quote and decided to go ahead and use them. The work was not only completed on time, but actually was done earlier than estimated. I am a stickler for details and was absolutely delighted by the attention to detail and quality of their work. I've used them on several jobs since and expect to continue our association for many years to come. I've also referred them to friends who have had similarly positive experiences, so I am confident in recommending them to the Angie's list community.

Jerry Dix visited our house and provided a clear estimate to repair some water damage. He was able to schedule repairs within a few days, and Jose and Martin did an excellent job of replacing drywall on the ceiling and repainting. They worked through lunch and were able to complete the job within the day. I would certainly recommend this contractor.

Overall It went very well. I had bought the cabinets and floor expecting to do much of the work myself, so after six months of no progress, I contacted S&J about demo and installation. They were very responsive and worked with me throughout the project with my difficult schedule. I am away for long periods of time and only home short periods. They were able to work me in and from the start two Fridays before Thanksgiving with demolition, they had a workable kitchen for my Thanksgiving guests arriving the following Friday. They came back to finish up the works during another small window when i was home. I took a lot of the responsibility myself, taking all the the debris for disposal and helping with some things. S&J did all promised and even a little more than i expected them to do. They really provide personal service, are a small firm and work with you, give and take on getting things done. They were perfect for someone like me. I did not ask them to do anything unreasonable, and they were very responsive on little things. I have some finishing work to do that was not in their work scope, but a number of times I had to remind their workers that it wasn't their job. As an example, they did paint the new ceiling, when i expected to do it myself. I think they had planned to do more disposal, so I saved them some time and trouble on that. They mostly were interested in me being satisfied and I am. They are perfectly competent in a more full scope job than I asked. I do recommend them and likely will have them come back to help with a framing/window installation job next year. It is not exactly what they advertise, but they certainly are competent and have demonstrated that they can work with my difficult schedule and odd work scope. They genuinely care about satisfied customers. Their communications are excellent. I gave them a "B" on price, because no one is perfect and I gave them A's elsewhere. I think the price was fair, not the cheapest, but very fair. I was satisfied enough that I didn't get a second price. The other Angie's List party that I contacted did not even return my call/email.

Jerry responded to our inquiry immediately. He visited our home and provided a verbal quote while he was there and followed up with an e-mailed quote later that evening. He was very knowledgeable and helpful regarding the types of paint that would be best for the job. Nahum and Jose arrived about a week later and did a fabulous job! They worked from the minute they arrived until they left each day. We had several nail pops and they repaired them prior to painting. Nahum and Jose were polite, excellent painters, and extremely neat. They covered everything with plastic (i.e., railings, drapery rods, furniture) and moved the heavy furniture. Jerry, Nahum, and Jose were terrific and we would definitely hire them again and recommend them.

Jose did a fabulous job. He patched everything I'd noticed and a whole bunch of stuff I hadn't. The cracks are gone, the dings are gone, and it's impossible to tell where the old paint ends and the new paint starts. Due to all the patching and sanding, I would have expected to have had dust and mess everywhere, but he did a great job of keeping it all under control and neat. Definitely someone I'd hire again without a second thought.

I am very happy with the work and very impressed with the company, the owner Jerry and the people who did the work. They were very professional and very accommodating. The job was not fully defined before it started since the waterproofers scope changed as they did their work. This meant S&J had to be flexible and they were. They even came back and fixed a small area after I decided I wanted to change it after they thought the job was complete. I highly recommend this company and I would hire them again in a second.

S&J came in and systematically made all the repairs in a very professional fashion. They called me when necessary for clarifications and the end result is excellent.

They did a very good job. the new stair railing was finished very well and with a quality suitable for the care with which it was installed. Painting was done well, with care, and very neatly.

They were very prompt, and courteous. I will defiantly keep them in mind for the future.
