S & J Painting & Remodeling

Jerry called evening of July 23 and came July 25 to give us an estimate. He called a few minutes from our house and arrived promptly. He is very professional, thorough, and answered all of our questions. There were several requests - garage attic stair replacement and replacing interior doors - that he was going to ask someone else to look into for us. Jerry emailed an estimate for his work that evening and emailed answers to several questions I asked the following day. We decided to hire another contractor for the job(s), but feel certain S & J would have been a good choice as well. The other contractor has done work for our neighbor. We decided to get his estimate as well. We chose him because we had seen his completed projects at their house, he could handle all of our requests himself, and cost seemed comparable.

Very pleased with the quality and speed of S&J. They did a very good job and were friendly, responsive and professional. I would definitely use them again.

They made things incredibly easy. Didn't need an estimate. They just said they would charge a flat fee of $325 a day. The painter, Marvin, came over when he said he would and although he didn't speak great English, we were able to communicate well (and the guy back in the office translated the instructions initially). Marvin was really nice and very, very good. Everything looks terrific, and the price seemed very reasonable to me. Only problem was that they guy back in the office left a couple of message on my cell phone that I could not understand -- I think he was using a cellphone that didn't have great service. Would suggest that next time they try to call a customer, they should use a landline or make sure when they leave a message, they speak slowly and repeat the message. But that's a small nit. I thought the company was great and will use them next time I want something painted.

Nahum arrived at my house Thursday June 28th at 9:30 A.M. Although he was scheduled to arrive at 9 A.M. he was very apologetic about arriving a little late. I walked the job with Nahum and explained exactly what I was looking for. He let me know they would be spackling and fixing holes before actually painting. I left to go to work after 30 minutes with Nahum. At around 1 P.M. I drove home to check on the job to see where it was. When I arrived, Nahum was out buying more supplies for the job, but Hector was in the house painting my daughters room. Later than evening I left a key with Nahum and Hector so that they could continue the job that Friday. Again, I checked the job in the middle of the day and was happy to see my daughter's room was completed and that they had been working on the rest of the rooms. Nahum and Hector were then able to complete the job that evening. I was very happy to have had the job done in two days when the expected time was 3. The price for the actual job came out closer to $1700 as I supplied the paint. However, since I supplied the paint I was able to pick out exactly what I wanted without having to be pigeon-holed into using one specific brand.

They were great. The quality of the work and pricing was very fair.

They came out twice because they changed it a little bit so he gave us a second estimate for services. I was surprised at how low it was, it was a really good price. The original quote was for painting our living room, two story high stair way and master bedroom and they quoted $750.

I will update the review after we select a vendor to perform the services.

Jerry was very cordial and responsive to the special scheduling needs of the job as it related in part to installation of new gutters. HIs crew was professional and creative at problem solving with regard to accessing parts of the exterior without the need for scaffolding and repairing siding issues as they presented themselves. Once there was a mistake in trim color and the crew graciously redid that area until it was right. My wife and I were very pleased with the work and would recommend S & J without reservation.

Huge job removing all that wallpaper. They did it quickly and efficiently. Workersdid a fine job, reported on time, worked hard and did a very fine paint job.

Jerry Dix was prompt in responding to our Angie's List request. He and his crew were extremely professional. All appointments were confirmed and kept. He directed us to experts to help us find the most durable and architecturally similar materials for the job. We purchased the materials (price included in the total project price). His carpentry crew prepared, constructed, installed and finished the railings. The overall cost was not cheap, but it was lower than estimates from other companies that we think were out of line. The other estimates were for durable railings but none of the railings matched the architectural design of the house. The railings we chose are architecturally pleasing and, because of the workmanship, we expect them to be durable.

He was easy to work with and did great work. Their responsiveness was an A+. The price was very reasonble. I will use them in the future.

Jerry was prompt in giving estimate, rates extremely reasonable and workers started and completed job on time.They did a wonderful job and I would definitely use this company again.

It went very well. I emailed Jerry on Saturday evening and he responded on Sunday and we worked out a time for him to come out to check out what we wanted done the following week. We had an agreed estimate within a week and asked for the work to be done prior to Thanksgiving since we had guests coming into town. They had a several week backlog. He scheduled us for the week of 7 November and we provided our desired paint colors over email. Jose and Alex showed up on the morning of the day they were expected to start, I walked him through the plan. After that I gave Jose a key and they could let themselves in. The paint was high quality. They did very good work; two coats of paint on all the walls. They cleaned everything up every day. A couple days before they were due to complete, I emailed Jerry asking him if they could help us with staining the front stairs, which are a series of small decks. We were worried about losing good enough weather in which to apply the stain since the temperatures were due to start going below 50 degrees and rain was in the forecast. He re-tasked Alex to do the staining outdoors and Jose continued painting inside. Then they completed the interior painting. I pointed out a ding in the wall to Jose one morning and he spackled the ding and proceeded to repaint the entire section of the wall. They were very professional and the work was very competent. They completed the entire work of the ten rooms in a week, including one day of deck staining. Good material, solid labor, reasonable price, timely completion, go for it. They're good.

I was pleased with the work done. I solicited several estimates before giving the job to S&J. The estimator was prompt and provided his estimate in short order. He listened to my needs and developed a plan that met my requirements. He did not try to upsell me on uber-fancy paints. This was a lot of work by total square footage, including vaulted ceilings up to 20', but it was basic painting, patching, and smoothing -- not exactly the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The estimate I received was markedly less than what I got from other highly reviewed companies, so I went with S&J. The crew that performed the work were quick, punctual, and efficient. On an estimate of up to 5 days work, they were finished in 3. The quality of their work was fine -- a few paint drips here and there that were barely noticeable and easily scraped off after the fact. Before leaving the foreman, Jonathan, did a complete walkthrough of the area and corrected any issues I pointed out, of which there were very few. I feel I received great value, good quality work, and was minimally displaced from my home due to S&J's efficiency.

The toilet repair was very professionally done. The workers made sure everything was correct before leaving. The painting was also well done. The workers arrived on time, moved quickly, and did a very nice job.

Very well, they came on time, finished on time and cleaned up everything.

Mr. Dix gave an initial verbal estimate after asking good, detailed questions about what we wanted done. He then sent a written estimate by e-mail, which was the same as that quoted verbally.

They did what they said they were going to do. They cleaned up after themselves. I was pleased with everything that they did.

They were good. They were easy to work with. They were professional and showed up no time.

Wonderful. Jerry came; gave us an estimate on the spot. Started within a few days. All work completed as identified by my husband and I. Each day the workers cleaned up and left our home as neat as possible with so much going on. Painters were polite and dealt with our two dogs and two cats that were all to willing to offer their help. Jerry responded to our emails and calls whenever we had questions. it is coincidental that I went on Angie's list today and a request to leave feedback came up; I was going on the list to find his phone number...it's now May 2012 and I have more painting that needs to be done. I am calling Jerry!

He came out personally. I thought he was very honest & fair. I just ended up having painting done several months later by a different company. He offered a fair price as well. Frankly I probably should've called him!

Job was adequate. So far it seems to be holding up well enough, some of the interior painting was a little sloppy. The price was the best of the 3 estimates I got. The people who did the actual painting did some extra work at a very reasonable price. Since there is only a yes or no option for whether you would use the company again, I clicked yes, but the real answer is maybe. I would do a more research before I used them for interior painting.

The service was good. They were very friendly. The things that they could do, they were able to do it quite promptly. They were also very strict about their timeline. Theywere very clear about that.

I new it would only take two days even though Jerry thought it might take longer. Sure enough, it took three days! The painters worked non-stop, did a great job, cleaned up after themselves and were super nice, and Jerry made sure they could come back on that third day which was so fortunate. Jerry knows what he is talking about, so listen to him! They even changed out a lighting fixture!
