People from S&J contacted me several times to schedule the work. They arrived early for the appointment and worked a full day to get the work done. Worker was professional and very neat especially considering he was doing drywall repair work.

I hired S&J Painting to paint my daughter's bedroom (including ceiling, trim, closet, door, and walls). I purchased the paint separately. Alex and Duncan between them have over 30 years painting experience, and were very professional. They were also very good at not getting any extra paint on floors, doorknobs, etc. They also cleaned up thoroughly before they left. It was nice to have a contractor show up on time, explain how they were going to perform the job, and do exactly what they said they were going to. I am definitely happy with how the room turned out.

Jerry came out and gave me an estimate on the work we needed done, wallpaper removal and interior painting of our first floor. His quote was in line with some of the other quotes I had, but he seemed to be more accessible by phone and email. The guys that did the work were clean and professional. They made removing the wallpaper look like a breeze (we had tried doing a section ourselves and decided we'd rather pay to have it done). The walls look great, and we couldn't be happier. I will definitely be going to them again in the future.

Showed up on time, were flexible about what areas I wanted painted.

Job went well. It took longer than expected (7 days rather than the estimate of 4-5, with 2-3 painters working each day). That was largely because they did extensive drywall repair, more than I was expecting. The quality of both the drywall repair and the paiinting was excellent and they were very responsive to various special requests. Only complaint would be that they weren't overly careful in putting things back in place and left a bit of a mess at the end. But I would definitely use them again.

Job went as expected. The repairs look good. The work area was cleaned up.

Responsiveness, professionalism, quality of work, attention to detail, pride in craft...all highest ratings.We called and left a message and immediately receive a personal phone call from the company owner to make arrangements for an estimate. This was a new construction paint job and we did not even have ownership of the house at time of estimate...but they worked with us to get an estimate in record time...scheduled and completed the work within the timeframe noted...supplied all the paint...and came in at exactly what they estimated. The house was empty when they painted...which was a great help to them...however they had to navigate winding stairs, very high walls, plant shelves, molding, etc....and there were not missed spots...not splatters on the hardwood floors...clean lines around the molding...very nice!! We collected estimates from a few other companies and S&J was by far the best. One other company couldn't event bother to get us on their estimate schedule. If you are looking for fast, reliable, affordable, high quality service....call S&J. We've already referred others to them and will continue to do so. S&J were very professional in both providing an estimate and getting the job done. Drywall repairs and painting were both done very well. Minor delays due to Hurricane Sandy, but not a problem.

An Angie's List CSR gave me this company's contact information for some remodeling and roof repair work I need done. S & J called back while I was on the phone and stated in their message that they couldn't do the roof work. I know it seems minor, but stating that in the message saved me a lot of time, and I appreciate that very much. I am specifically looking for someone who can do it all, and most companies would have just left a message for me to call them back, so I could hear a lengthy sales pitch followed by the disclaimer that they couldn't do all the work. This very small interaction has resulted in me adding S & J to my list for future work.

I called and received a prompt return call. Jerry came out at the agreed upon time and gave me an estimate. We schedule the work and his crew arrived on time as scheduled. They were courteous and professional. The ceiling job turned out to be more of a carpentry job than a drywall job but the crew easily adjusted and completed the work. They did a good job with the flooring and deck work as well. I will definitely use again.

Working with S&J was a pleasure from start to finish. Owner Jerry Dix promptly returned my contact email and set a time to look at my house and give an estimate. Jerry called me the morning he was coming and told me he'd be 1/2 an hour late. After dealing with many companies where people never even showed up to keep an appointment and did not bother to call, this was promising. Jerry showed up as promised and took an hour talking with me and walking my house. Within 24 hours, he had emailed me an estimate. Due to other jobs, work could not start for about a month, but Jerry kept in touch with me the whole time. Once work began, everything was completed within five days. Quality of workmanship by his crew was extraordinary and their commitment to doing the job right was obvious. For example, on the last day, I got a job from the job supervisor Nestor who told me that they had repointed the concrete front steps but that the colors did not match at all, given the age of the existing concrete. He said he thought it would look much better if the steps were painted the same grey as the porch floor. I agreed and when I saw the finished work, it was obvious he was right. I plan on hiring S&J again to do work on my bathroom and have no hesitation in giving them the highest recommendation.

Overall, the project went very well. Because of the extensive rains we had in the spring, Jerry was delayed in getting the exterior work started. He did not want to take any risk with the poor weather for exterior painting. Jerry kept in touch with me on the scheduling, and I had no problems understanding the delays. Jerry's staff were good workers, competent and friendly. I was especially impressed with "Nestor," Jerry's leader in the exterior painting effort. Each day, the work areas were cleaned up and materials were put away. Jerry stopped by a few times during the course of the project to talk with me, to check on the status of the job, and to insure that I was satisfied. We had a walk-through at the end of the project and only one or two minor touch ups were required. Jerry is easy to work with, and it is obvious that he wants to insure that the customer is happy with the result.

He is easy to get a hold of and to schedule. He emails an estimate, then he lets me know when he is done the job, and then emails me the final bill.

Bob was early for the estimate and he showed up on the first scheduled appointment. He was extremely professional. In addition to performing the carpentry work and the exterior work, he was the project manager. He gave us a no-pressure estimate and was able to start the work within our timeframe. We purchased all the paint and sealer to ensure the proper color was chosen. We used the company's contractor account at the paint store to get the best possible value. The work was completed in a timely manner. We were very worried whether the interior painting would include all the various odds and ends of the job like fixing cracks. It did, and we were very relieved and happy. We were also worried about a small amount of carpentry work that we wanted performed on the fence that we forgot to remind Bob to include in the estimate. Bob performed the work under the original estimate, and it looks excellent. There were a list of touch-ups, and Bob came back on multiple occasions to fix everything. The final amount was still due throughout the touch-up process, but Bob always changed the subject to our satisfaction whenever we brought up the subject of money. After we paid the balance, a closet door fell because it was not re-hung properly by the painters. Bob came by to fix it and again changed the subject to our satisfaction when we mentioned the possible need to pay him extra for this odd job. The price could have been lower, but that is always the case. We chose him because he was the most professional, and we were not disappointed.

Jerry Dix and the crew on our job (Elias and Jose) were my first Angie's list experience. Jerry provided a written estimate within a day of coming out to the house; his estimate was just a bit lower that the other three bids we solicited. From start to finish, Jerry was professional and responsive to add-ons I kept making as the work progressed. Although having so much painting going on is major-league disruption in your life, Elias and Jose couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful to have around. I actually missed them when the job was completed - they all are exceedingly polite and efficient and want the customer to be satisfied with their work. They always let me know what time they would arrive and were on the job without interruption from start to finish. I second all the positive comments about Jerry's work and have no negatives. He's so thoughtful and cooperative, that when I had to stop all the work after they had been here just one day because of an illness in the family, he wished us well and plugged us back into his schedule very quickly when we were able to continue the work in a few weeks' time. Our stopping the job like that had to cause a disruption in his scheduling of jobs and his crew, but he never said a word about it other than to hope everything went alright with us. Went pretty well. They were a few days late starting because of the previous client who delayed things significantly. But we didn't know that ahead of time, so we were all prepared three days before they actually started the work. Once they (Alex and Dustin - both highly recommended) started, they got to work efficiently, and got the job done. Good workers, friendly, professional, etc. They knew what they were doing and got it done. Unfortunately, the estimate was low and what was quoted as a 4 day job ended being a 6 day job. Our house has more than the typical amount of corners, and the estimator clearly underestimated the job. Painters can be rather disruptive in your life, but they did a very good job of cleaning up each day, making things quite livable. Near the end of the job, we had a discussion with the office staff on the price. They noted the 6 day job vice the 4 day job quoted, and we agreed to spit the difference, and add $500 to the original price. They would have taken the original quote and eaten the difference, but in fairness, we felt that the compromise was the right thing to do. The original quote was significantly below the competition, so I could either chalk it up to 1) a low-ball, but the final price was still quite below the competition, or 2) sloppy estimation. Either way, we still ended with the best end price by several hundred dollars, and... the quality of their job was great. Very satisfied. Oh BTW, they used high-end Benjamin Moore paint - good stuff.

S&J Painting and Remodeling did a great job painting the exterior of my home. I will hire them again!

Everything went very well. The paint job wrapped up sooner than expected and the quality of the work, both painting and patching, was superb. The project manager, Jonathan, went above and beyond in cleaning up some trouble spots around window frames and such. I only have two negative remarks about the job: 1) There was an eleventh-hour delay on the starting date. Apparently the project manager for my job returned from out of town a day later than expected. This was inconvenient as I had gone through considerable lengths to align my work schedule with the originally agreed upon date. This is why I gave a "B" to Punctuality above. 2) We left some newly purchased floor registers in place and most of them ended up getting ruined. The painters had obviously moved them at some point in the process, but not before they'd become stained and scratched. I can cut them some slack over this; we pulled the floors up in our entire house prior to the job (we're replacing them throughout the house shortly) and therefore told Jerry that his team didn't need to bother with drop cloths or any other such precautions. And the registers were relatively cheap, so I've chalked it up as a lesson learned the hard way and moved on. Neither of these issues would sway me from hiring Jerry and his team for a job in the future.

They didn’t get the job. It was okay but it wasn’t terrific. There were some complications and I was hoping he would come out and see the full extent of the job. He was unwilling to do that.

Overall they did a good job. I would say excellent but there were a few things that were not at that level. It looks great overall. The shortcomings are that they came 30-45 minutes late most days and overall it took 2 1/2 days longer than estimated. Because their name includes the word "decorating" I thought ( and understood) that they could advise me and purchase new stairway railings. However, at halfway through the job they told me I would have to go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get them. I don't have a truck and cannot carry a full-staircase railing in my car. To this day, I still don't have railings and will have to make special arrangements at some point to do this. Another concern is that the built in shelf units on both side of the fireplace have cabinets beneath them. They stood on those cabinets to paint the shelf enclosure above them and cracked the top of the cabinet and didn't mention it or fix it. I had purchased new hardware for the cabinets and left it for them to install and they didn't. I thought this was part of the re-decorating. They did install the new drapery rod I had purchased and did a good job on that. They also did a good job of installing the new glass shelving next to the fireplace. The paint job itself was very good. The "decorating" part was a little less so.

They did a fabulous job. We were pleased with their work and it looks great.

Jerry called back and set up an appointment to do the estimate the same day I called. Very flexible on the scheduling. His workers are very focused on the work from beginning to end. They don't screw around and work until the job is done. A few minor touch up issues, but white paint on white primer isn't the easiest to work work with and catch every detail. I can easily take care of these with the paint they left for touch-up purposes.
