We contacted Unicorp for an estimate to replace our windows and gutters, based on their excellent ranking on Angie's List. Mary Ellen arrived to discuss the project. She gave us good advice about the type of windows we needed, and also told us exactly what services they would provide. Unicorp's estimate was in line with what we had received from oanohter company, so we decided to go with them.Once we signed the contract, everything moved very quickly. The gutters were installed within a couple of weeks, and some minor issues with them were fixed as soon as the weather was favorable. The windows were scheduled for a few weeks later. The installation crew was amazing. They worked non stop in freezing weather, and had all the windows in by the end of the day. They returned the next working day to complete the outside trim. The entire process took about five weeks. Throughout, the communication was excellent, and they always showed up on schedule. Mary Ellen was a pleasure to work with: absolutely no sales pressure or upselling. The windows are amazing, and our home looks so much better and feels much warmer.
Description of Work: Unicorp replaced our old single pane windows with double pane vinyl windows. They also replaced the metal window frames and wood frames, and replaced the gutters.

It was terrific. Nice preparation of estimate, negotiated price down slightly in competition with other estimates, had a strong competient crew who worked long hours and steadily to do the siding, very helpful in selecting color and shutter contrasting color, periodic supervision from company management. Then the windows team came in and did precise measurements, worked out details for a couple of odd windows, good communication with the windows supervisor, and got the job done expeditously. Good cleanup. The door guy came next and everything went quickly and effectively. Quite pleased with the outcome of all 3 parts. These guys aren't cheap, but they're not crazy expensive either. In any event, they're worth it!

This project began with just my bay window needed to be replace due to broken seal. As I had various company come to provide an estimate they realized that the windows on each side of the bay window were not operating smoothly. I went called the top five rated companies in Angie List. I found UNICORP presentation and quality of their windows to be the most impressive. They product stood out among the rest. They also had the best rating at the time on Angie's List. Brian the owner came out to do the presentation. We discussed and compared the quality of my current windows at the time that were about 15 years old. UNICORP windows are much more superior then what I had and what I had seen by other vendors that I obtained estimates from. Mr.

It was such a pleasure doing business with Unicorp. Brian and his team have been very patient, responsive, professional, and considerate from the beginning to the end. Brian has been very helpful to help me select my door style and one new cut-through window in the bathroom. I really appreciate it. Both the entry door and new windows have great quality and Brian's team made the whole installation process very pleasant. I definitely recommend Unicorp to my friends and families!!

I was very pleased with Unicorp's service. I needed 19 new windows in my house, and I was not looking forward to the process as I had once been given a GIANT estimate by a company that was going door-to-door. For this project, I got three estimates, including one from Unicorp, which came highly recommended from two people. I really liked Unicorp's professionalism and personal service. Owner Brian came to my house to give me an estimate. He was so nice to deal with and did not try to upsell me on products I did not need. Their estimate for quality products was also by far the best of three. Brian said it would be about six weeks to make the windows. Right on schedule, the windows arrived six weeks later. Amazingly, the installer crew (also very nice to deal with) were done in one day. I was very impressed. Nothing was out of place - the blinds, curtains were exactly as Ieft them when they were done. I love my new vinyl windows. They look great. I will definitely call Unicorp again.

Based on our previous experience with replacing windows, we decided to use Unicorp to replace two of our outside doors. Just as they did the previous time, they showed up when they said they would and they did the work they said they would. I watched the entire job and took numerous pictures of the process. They were very patient with those questions I did have while they performed their work. They were careful not to track dirt through the house and did a good job of cleaning up prior to leaving. They did an excellent job sealing around the doors. This was the same installation method used for the replacement windows we mentioned at the beginning. It is worth noting that we recently had an energy audit that included an infiltration (blower door) test of the house. The inspector was impressed with the quality of the seals around the windows. We were extremely pleased with the professional sales and service staff of Unicorp during the purchase and installation of the doors. We had them install 2 exterior entry ProVia doors and one storm door. The exterior doors were equipped with double pane windows and enclosed blinds. The enclosed blinds are a very handy feature. All three doors feel solid and substantial. They operate smoothly and have tight seals. The enclosed blinds are attached to the inside surface of the door with 14 screws (3 at the bottom and top of the window and 4 on each side of the window) through the trim around the window. Because the door is white and the trim has a round shape where the screws hold the trim to the door each dowel is slightly visible. When we mentioned this to Unicorp, they had the ProVia door representative come to our house to perform some additional touchup work. The dowels do look much better, you may want to consider getting the wood tone door if you plan to get the ProVia door with the enclosed blinds. During the recent cold snaps, the doors have been excellent at keeping out the cold.

We had our whole house redone by Unicorp. They did the roof, windows, siding a gutters. They did everything they said they would. The crews were always on time, throroughly professional and the craftsmanship was first rate. Shin and the siding crew are true artists, and their attention to detail is incredible. They don't miss a thing. Zbignew and his window crew were also terrific. Zbignew expects only the highest quality work and will accept nothing less. These people work on your house as if they are working on their own . We particularly want to thank Mary Ellen McDonald. She was with us through every step of the process. Mary Ellen above everthing else will be totally honest and open with you and that is what we loved most about her. I think honesty and openess is the quality that consumers are most concerned about, and that's what you will get. What also impressed us about Mary Ellen was her knowledge about every aspect of the project including the materials, latest technological advances in the construction industry, and all our cost options. We knew that she always had our best interests in mind and our satisfaction with the job Unicorp did was her utmost goal. Mary Ellen would come up with very clever and ingenous solutions to problems that we would not have thought of which literally saved us thousands of dollars. We told Mary Ellen what our budget was and she made sure that we didn't go over it. She was more concerned about watching the bottom line than I was! Wherever there is an opportunity to save money she will find it. She will not try to sell you anything more that you need, that I promise you. I would even let her watch my dog which I don't just entrust to anybody! Thanks to Unicorp out house is aesthetically beautiful and its structure dramatically improved. We are always getting compliments from passers by on how good our house looks. Thanks UNICORP. We would recommend you without hesitation. Richard Sprecher and Susan Marks

This was an excellent job; and we were informed daily of the status by JR, project supervisor, and the project manager Megan. First we worked with Mary Ellen MacDonald, the company's Vice President, to select appropriate shingles and coordinate colors that enhanced the brick work and selected siding. We selected architectural singles that carry a lifetime warranty, so we would not be replacing the roof prematurely as with the last roof. David and his crew did an excellent job of replacing all rotted wood; then they installed a special rubber matting to help prevent ice damming and damage to the interior of our home. The ridge line and shingles were the final step. And these guys did a great cleanup at work's completion. Cho and his crew were responsible for the fiber cement siding that replaced the faulty vinyl siding. This made a huge improvement to the look of our home. With the dormers and trim boards in place, Cho and crew capped all windows and did the soffit and fascia. Again, everything was expertly capped and caulked. In the past, we received promises of "quality of work" from other contractors; however the craftsmanship of Unicorp's exceeded expectations. Thanks to all the crews and their clean up at end of job; and to the care they exhibited for the property's landscaping. Thanks to Megan for her many phone calls; and to JR who alleviated concerns. And, at last, it was wonderful to work with a WOMAN (Mary Ellen MacDonald) who knew her stuff! We intend to use Unicorp for future projects.

This is the second house I have had Unicorp windows installed in and I have been delighted with both jobs. The sales agent was very good and not off-puttingly pushy. There were no hidden "set-up"fees (a very well-known national vendor charges over $600 per job as an incentive to get you to do everything in one project). The workers were prompt and very efficient. They cleaned up perfectly and were very unobtrusive to have around. This was one of the easiest and most pleasant home improvement projects I have ever undertaken. The job supervisor treated his crew with kindness and civility and his work was perfect. It was a much more pleasant and less costly job than I had been steeling myself for. I would highly recommend this vendor and I will use them for other projects.

Unicorp came highly recommended and we are extremely pleased with our windows and their service. Very personable, careful, and polite window technicians. They replaced over 30 windows and were so quick that we were not inconvenienced at all. I highly recommend this company for replacement windows!
Description of Work: Unicorp replaced our 1960s home's ineffecient old and mostly broken windows with single pane, easy to clean, thermal paned windows. They were in and out in a few days with no inconvenience to us at all. My three dogs were not overwraught as Mr. W, who replaced the windows, was very animal friendly.

Everything from the sales demonstration, to measurements, to removal of old windows, to installation of new windows was outstanding! The price was right considering the nature of what had to be done for the removal of the old metal windows. The installation went so well we didn't need to use extra molding because no noticeable damage was done during removal of the metal windows, which was nothing short of a miracle. The installation crew were really experts, who took the time to do the job right and it paid off in the way the windows look and the way they have performed during recent heavy storms. We picked a model that really looks like wood from just a few feet away, so they blend in great with our existing older home. The house is not only much warmer, but also very quiet. We live near 66 and can no longer hear any noise. We had sales demonstrations from 6 other contractors and are very happy we went with Unicorp. I can't say enough about this company. They really are customer first!!

We are a bit puzzled as to why this homeowner is shocked by our price. This appointment was for a bay window that another company had installed a while back. The window was installed improperly and we recommended that they could save money by repairing the window at a minimal cost vs. ordering an entirely new bay window unit. We are sorry that the price that we quoted was more than what the member wanted to pay, however we do not know why this would justify on overall F rating.

Unicorp did our windows and a deck 3 years ago and all of our siding and gutters last year. First windows: we got super windows - a GREAT value. Three years later I am still very pleased with the quality, not to mention the house is SO MUCH MORE livable. No drafts. Heating/cooling bills show the difference too. I dread thinking of what they would be with the prices now if we had not had the windows done. Deck: awesome - it was a great choice to have it done. Siding: before I noticed our siding (it looked awful) now I never do - which to me is a great thing! And I am so glad I won't have to think about it ever... Gutters: we opted for the gutters with the cover thingies and they work GREAT - even after all the big storms this year they function great. We are in a townhome so I can compare easily and our neighbors will have water pouring off their roofs and ours not a drop. SERVICE: This is where Unicorp really set themselves apart. From the first contact, to the advice, to the followup - they were wonderful. I also appreciated working with a salesperson that when I said "give me a quote" (for the siding) understood and didn't bug me until we had saved the money. (I told him when to check back with us)

After initial inquiry Dave come out to provide an estimate. We had a couple of other estimates and although Unicorp wasn't the cheapest it was within $1000 of the lowest and we felt best about Unicorp's product. Measurements were taken several days later and then as soon as the windows came in the installation was scheduled . The installers were great and worked straight through until the last light of day. They ended up having to rebuild the frame of the bay window which took longer than expected but got it done and at no extra charge. I liked the fact that Dave came out and checked on the progress during the install. Most importantly I asked to have the windows installed prior to Thanksgiving if at all possible and they came through on that promise. We noticed the difference in warmth in the house almost immediately - great decision to have this done.

Overall, the job went smoothly from start to finish. All 24 windows were installed in one day!! The next two days were spent trimming the windows out, mounting my shutters and touching up the paint. Superb!
Description of Work: All I can say is that I am sorry that there is not a higher rating than 'A" that I can give this company! Unicorp Home Energy Services was professional, reliable, patient and gave us top of the line quality and installation. My husband and I are "do it yourselfers" for two reasons: financial necessity and because we are perfectionists. We were in desperate need of new windows and realized that we wanted real professionals to install them. So we ran straight to Angie's List and devoured the strongly positive comments and "A" ratings that were left by the customers that actually had work done by Unicorp. We are so pleased to add ourselves to this long list of extremely satisfied customers. David Rohrer is the antithesis of the notorious pushy salesman and he let the windows sell themselves. The windows are truly beautiful and so well made!! David was very patient as we organized our finances and time frame. Our home was built in 1890 and it was extremely important to us that the new windows marry the historic architecture. David not only "Got It" but he sent his Window Supervisor, Mr Materka, to personally measure and install our windows, Mr. Materka, besides being charming, is more of a perfectionist than I am and I did not think that was possible! He and his team, Jose and Adolpho, were absolute pleasures to have in my home for the duration of the job. They were organized and worked efficiently. I was amazed at how caringly they treated my home and they all worked well past sunset to make sure that everything was done to their high standards. Mr. Materka and his team did a stunning job with the windows, trimming them out in the most optimal way to showcase the architecture. Our home was beautiful when they were done and as I thanked each of them on the last day, I told them that I personally was richer for having them in my life those 4 days! Bravo Unicorp!!

I don't normally leave negative reviews and I usually try to have a lot of patience with folks in the service industry- been there, done that, and everyone has off days. Most folks really are trying their best. That said, my experience with Unicorp was some of the worst customer service I've had in years. I will not be working with them and I cannot recommend them. I made an appointment for a quote for replacing the windows in my house. The phone conversation when making the appointment had been rushed, and I received no confirmation of the appointment. I was told I would get a confirmation call an hour before the sales person was to arrive. On the day of the appointment, I took a half day at work so I could get home well before the appointment and clean up my house, removing all my window treatments in order to make any necessary inspections or measurements easier. Then I sat down to wait by the front door. I received no call. No sales person showed. I waited for 45 minutes past the time. Feeling foolish, I figured I must have written down the wrong date. So I put the curtains and blinds back up. A week later I did it again. Same thing. Except this time I called to ask what had happened. They claimed they'd lost my phone number. They also claimed they had been to my house the previous date and hadn't had anyone come to the door. When I said I had been within ten feet of the door for nearly an hour surrounding the appointment, they claimed they had left a note. No note was left on my door. The exchange felt very dishonest to me. (11/28/2012: please see update below) So, I wasted my time and effort on a company that cannot keep appointments or adequate records, and which will not meet basic standards for customer service. I will find someone else to work with. UPDATE 11/28/2012: After several phone calls from the company, they've confirmed that their staff person went to the wrong house on the day of the appointment. I'm changing the grade from F to C for this reason and removing other aspects of this review, as I believe this is likely an accurate account. It is possible that this was an outlier event, given their general history, but I'm not interested in further interactions, and the review otherwise stands.

WOW....first we would like to start by saying we do understand why this member is upset. We have reached out to her in the hope we have the opportunity to make things up to her for any inconvenience. That being said, the following are the events surrounding this situation. Simply put, when this member phoned our office to set up an appointment for a window estimate our receptionist did not get a phone number (which was unlisted) so we were unable to confirm the appointment the evening before as we normally would. On the day of the appointment we arrived at what we thought was the address given. We waited 45 minutes for the homeowner to get home. When no one showed we left a package with brochures and literature at the front door. Unfortunately the street that this member lives on has a slight angle to it and becomes a different street, not marked as such. Making matters more confusing is it just so happens that the exact same house number as the one given is duplicated just 20+ houses away, which was the house our representative went to and waited at. In an attempt to compensate for the initial error of not obtaining a phone number, we believed by sending out our representative (even though confirmation of the appointment was not possible) we were doing the appropriate and next best thing. At Unicorp we pride ourselves on customer satisfaction and encourage anyone reading this, to read any and all of our Angie's List reviews as evidence of this commitment. Finally, if you are considering calling us for an estimate, please know there is never a need to move furniture, take down window treatments or anything else in order to give you an accurate and complete estimate. Thank you for taking the time to read this response and we look forward to continuing the great work we have been known for since 1987 Sincerely, Brian Weil President / Founder

From the start, Unicorp was a great to work with to complete a substantial, multifaceted project. Brian Weil was excellent to work with during the sales phase. Although I interviewed a number of contractors, he was the most professional and the least "sales-y". Although not the cheapest bid, I decided to go with Unicorp because I had more faith that they could execute the job successfully vs. some of the others which were more focused on closing a sale. Although it took a long time to complete (Sept 2011 - February 2012), I worked with Megan who kept me up-to-date with the progress at all times. Most of the delays were due to the typical production delays of the windows and doors which was out of their control. She always had a very pleasant personality and made me feel very comfortable with working with her. She was always proactive, readily available and very responsive to any voice mails. There were a few minor scope glitches which Unicorp made right without additional charges. In terms of product, I like the windows and doors (as recommended by Unicorp) and have enjoyed a much lower energy bill - an incredible 50% reduction in my gas/electric bills. I would use Unicorp again in the future as they exceeded my expectations.

When we decided to get our windows replaced, we agreed upon getting three estimates. The first two estimates were from two window companies (one recommended from a friend, the other advertised through the mail) and the third was from Unicorp, which I had found out about through Angie's List. I selected Unicorp from Angie's list based upon its rating, and also based upon the number of customer reviews it had. Representatives from all three companies came to present in the same week. All three had comparable pricing and similar warranties, and their products all seemed pretty good. However, the first two salesmen's approaches consisted of them giving us on-the-spot quotes, claiming that the lower prices they offered would only be good for that particular day. Of course, this was meant to pressure us to purchase right away. We had been through this approach before, when we had another home improvement project done, and we had purchased the same day, on impulse. We had some mixed feelings about this, and decided we were going to be more prepared, and get at least three estimates for when we would replace our windows. However, one of the salesmen we dealt with was getting rather pushy, saying that if we really believed in his product (and I am paraphrasing), there should really be no question about purchasing from them. We mentioned that we wanted a couple days to think about it, but he kept at it, and also made phone calls to his manager, trying to get lower pricing for us. He kept insisting that we had to purchase that exact same day in order to get this special rate. It got rather awkward. I understand that from a salesman's point of view, they're trying to, well, make a sale, and they don't want to come out all the way to somebody's house for nothing. But from a customer's point of view, it just makes sense that prior to making an extremely large purchase, we wanted to take time to discuss the situation, and compare what we had heard and seen. When the salesmen left, he seemed rather annoyed and frustrated with us. When Brian, the president of Unicorp, came to tell us about his products, he skipped some of his presentation, since we told him that we had already sat through two of them. He took measurements, made some suggestions, and showed us what he had to offer. Based upon what we were interested in, he gave us some quotes. When we told him we wanted to think about it, he said sure, but to let him know within 2 weeks. That was a pleasant and welcome surprise to us, and certainly more than reasonable. Another thing that I appreciated about Brian's presentation, was when he stated (and I am paraphrasing) that no matter what window company we decided to go with, just to make sure we would chose a window with these ABC characteristics (I forget what characteristics exactly), and that there were several good window companies out there to choose from. This was a particularly refreshing and professional attitude, especially in comparison to the previous salesman we had seen, who actually had made some disparaging comments about a competitor window company. Anyway, we agreed to order from Unicorp. It took two nonconsecutive days for the windows to get installed, since there was rain, and some scheduling restraints. We had 16 windows replaced, including two large picture windows. We really liked the final product, it really transformed our home, since the windows we had replaced were original, and had dark metal frames. They're very attractive, and eliminated the drafts we had, especially in our den. I do not remember the names of the gentlemen who came to measure and install the windows, but they were pleasant, and very professional. On occasion, they were late in arrival, but were good at communicating when there were going to be late, or had to reschedule. There was one window where the lower portion had missing grids, and when I e-mailed Brian about this, it was replaced immediately. On the whole, the window replacement took about a month, probably less, from when we first ordered them, to installation. We had done this in late summer, early fall, perhaps when the peak season was near end. As I mentioned above, we also got our doors (also original) replaced this past summer. It took a little longer for our doors to come in after ordering, since we ordered in early summer, during peak season. The actual installation took less than 1 day, and we were also very pleased with the final product, and the work that was done, and, like the windows, the new doors really transformed our home, and eliminated drafts and heat loss. Overall, I would (and have) recommend Unicorp to others, and would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We had our windows replaced late summer of last year. We also had our front and back doors replaced last summer

Our estimate was scheduled for 6pm but Mary Ellen actually came at 4:30 so that she would have light to inspect the exterior of the house. She called me immediately to say that she was at our property and did not feel that we needed new windows. I was pleasantly surprised by this refreshing honesty. She did say that the windows needed to be properly resealed (and pointed out to me that the contractor who did the work last year had used cheap caulk and done a poor job in her opinion). She also provided a recommendation for a window repair company to fix the balances and some other issues, and made suggestions for what could be causing the problems - leaks through the window lintels/angle irons requiring a brick mason's work to fix. She made it clear that she is not an expert in these areas but I appreciated her honesty and the information because it will help us get to the right fix for our problem and help us when talking to other contractors. If her company did window repair we would use them, but alas they don't. Mary Ellen was kind, knowledgable and honest and was a pleasure to talk with.
Description of Work: I called Unicorp to provide an estimate for new windows because we suspected that they were the cause of interior damage to our walls after Hurricane Sandy.

Overall, the appointment went well! Mary Ellen has a fantastic personality and her warmth is genuine. As a prior customer, she has a knack for making the customer feel comfortable. She kept her presentation short and to the point. I personally hate two plus hour window appointments. She provided me with an estimate on-site along which included the Angie's list discounts. Mary Ellen also provided a complimentary lead test which I thought was a nice added touch. Although the pricing wasn't as competitive, I would highly recommend this company when it comes to customer service and responsiveness.
Description of Work: We contacted Unicorp to get an estimate on replacing 5-6 windows. Our appointment was set-up within 2 days of our call which was impressive! We received at least two follow-up calls prior to our appointment.

Installation was very good and clean and it took about a day and half. Very satisfied with the quality of windows and the installation. Went with casement windows and they really do look more modern and lets in more light and less obstructed view. This year noticed some oxidation on some of the hardware of the window such as the screws. Called up Unicorp and they had someone come out and inspect the situation two days later. They returned the following week to replace all the affected hardware with non-corrodable type. Happy that it was taken care of so quickly and without any drama.
Description of Work: Replaced 14 double hung windows with double pane casement windows.

I contacted Unicorp after reading the positive reviews here. Mary Ellen got back to me promptly and communicated with both my wife and I over the phone and email. She came out to our house and showed me the window/door samples and explained the process clearly. She then answered various follow-up questions promptly and accurately. Larry then came out to take measurements and discuss things further. He was extremely thorough, and he talked with me in detail about how they would do the work. Our windows were pretty standard, if crooked. Our doors downstairs were a bit more complex because we wanted to preserve the original woodwork, and the doors were a custom size. Again, Larry took the time to walk me through things and make sure he understood exactly what we were looking for, which included lead precautions because our house is old. The installers, Jaime and Jose, came out yesterday and finished today, so I can't speak to the long-term quality of the windows and doors (I'm writing this review now before I forget!). Everything certainly feels solid and well-built. The windows slide up and down with two fingers. The doors are square and tight. For example, we installed a storm/screen door on one of the doors, and the interior door resists closing just a bit because the seal of both doors is so tight that air can't escape the space between them when closing. No more drafts! The locks and latches are smooth and fit just right. And both the windows and doors look fantastic. The installers really seem to have done careful, precise work. Everything is level and neat, and they removed and reinstalled our woodwork perfectly. They also cleaned up everything -- no dust or debris left over. Overall, we could not be happier with the work Unicorp performed.
Description of Work: Unicorp replaced three windows for us upstairs and two custom doors/transoms downstairs, with one screen door. Lead precautions taken.
