I called Adcock?s Trapping Service on Monday morning to remove a bat that could not get out of my fireplace and to find out how the bat got in. Clint from Adcock?s Trapping Service showed up on Tuesday and removed a bat from my gas fireplace. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly about how to resolve this problem. He found that my steel chimney cap needed to be replaced due to its age and condition; that is how the bat got into my chimney. He installed a new stainless steel chimney cap with cloth screening on top of the flue on the first day. He also screened a small fresh air vent on the chimney. After hearing no additional scratching noises, a technician returned several days later to install a stainless steel hardware cloth on the flue and glued the cap down. The technician also sealed a piece of chimney flashing with roof cement. I am extremely happy with their work and would recommend Adcock?s Trapping Service. I also received an Angie?s List discount. Thank you very much!

They were extremely knowledgable, professional and friendly and spent a fair amount of time with me on the phone knowing that they were not interested in performing the work. I will definitely call them again if I have any other critters that need to be removed from my home in the future.
Description of Work: I was trying to figure out how to humanely remove chipmunks from my yard. Adcocks phoned me back and spent 15 minutes educating me about chipmunks and how to independently trap them (or, as a last resort, how to eliminate them if we chose to go that route).

My wife saw a snake near the front door. I called Adcock to have someone came over. Clint, the service guy, came over very quickly. Unfortunately the snake has moved on to different place. He sprayed some chemical to make it gone out. It didn't seem to work in the beginning. Most companies will charge whether the snake is caught or NOT, which is in my case. Adcocks agreed to use the fee to do whole house inspection instead. So we did this. Anyways, after he finished checking the house and about to write up the detail (recommendations), I saw the snake's head showed up. I called him immediately. Unfortunately it was gone back inside the plywood very quickly he didn't see it. So he sprayed the same chemical again and waited. He finally had to tear up the plywood to get the snake out. Clint knows his stuff and was patient with me. I am very happy with his work. Thanks.
Description of Work: Came over and removed the snake from our property.

An animal fell through my window well cover and died in the well. The stench was horrible. I called Adcock after hours on Tuesday. They juggled their schedule and dispatched a technician Wednesday morning. I did not need to be home since they could gain access from outside. They removed the opossum carcus and cleaned up the window well. I came home to a fresh smelling house.

Update Aug 2, 2013: Two days after I reviewed Adcock's on Angie's List they called back and sent one of their employees out to replace the bag that covers the hole in our home. Changed their overall review from a B to an A. Good job on responding to feedback Adcock's! Initial Review: Initial inspection on a Thursday was done promptly with much advice given on both the trapping process as well as what to expect and a quote for repairing the damage to our gutter to prevent further penetration by animals. Initial trapping services were contracted at that point and a schedule was determined and explained. Initial traps were laid but left open to get the squirrels acclimatized to the cages. One of the employees came out Monday and subsequent days throughout the week to set and reset the traps. Five squirrels were caught and trash bags were taped to the hole near our gutters to detect further infestations prior to fixing the hole. Rain storm the evening of the last traps placed tore off the garbage bags. Last note left on the door was unclear if the service was completed or not. No follow up calls were received, which is why I didn't rate my overall experience an A, as I wasn't sure if they thought they had gotten them all or not.

The initial encounter with Adcocks went well. They were the third place I called and they had the best availability (i.e., they serviced my area and they were able to come out within a couple of days of my having called -- that mattered a lot to me as I was worried that I had a live baby bird trapped in my wall and I didn't want it to die). The pricing seemed reasonable especially as they made it clear, during my initial call with them, that the $95 I would pay for an inspection would go towards the payment of any work they would need to do if they found animals trapped in my house. The other main company in my area, Trappro, would make me pay the inspection fee *on top of* any work they would do. The two Adcock's employees showed up on the day and during the time they said they would. They immediately found the problem and installed the equipment for the first stage of the process -- the one way trap. The two men who came were very courteous and seemed very knowledgeable. After they installed the trap, they told me they would be back in a week or so to remove the trap and patch up the hole where the birds had gained access to the inside of my house. Unfortunately, the experience with Adcock's deteriorated from that point. A number of things did not go well from there. First, the guy asked me to pay $370 for the work (which would cover both the initial installation of the trap and the subsequent removal and sealing). When I saw how he wrote up the bill, I saw that he was charging me for the $95 inspection and then $275 for the trap and the sealing. I said that I had been told that I wouldn't be paying the $95 inspection fee if the inspection had proved "positive" (as it did) and there was an animal to be removed. He said he didn't know about that policy, but that I would need to pay this now and then follow up on Monday with the office folks. He said the office folks would reimburse me if this was the case. When I did follow up with the office folks (which took several days of calling -- the owner was never available when I called and the other employees said I needed to go through her) -- she said that the guy who'd done the work had incorrectly written up the bill and that I *wasn't* paying the inspection fee, but the $370 was *just* for the actual installation of the trap and the subsequent sealing. That was a significantly higher price for the work than they had initially given me as a ballpark when I had called and it seemed significantly higher than what the other companies I had called would have charged. After continued conversation, the owner said she would "reduce" my price to the $275 because of the mistake in how the bill was written. It then took several weeks of calling to get Adcocks to send back out a team to take down the trap and do the sealing repair. I arranged to work from home the morning they were scheduled to arrive. I had planned to be home because the access to the back of my house (where the bird nest and trap was) is tricky. Access to my back patio is through a metal garage door. I don't actually have a garage, just the door. But it's the only way to access the back area where they would have to do the work. So, because I didn't want to leave my garage door open to the alley all day, I had stayed home to give them access to the back patio area. I was sitting in my kitchen with a light on (which could have easily been visible to someone who approached my front door) when I realized that a man was climbing over my back fence and manually lifting my garage door. They hadn't even knocked on my front door -- they had just gone around the back, hopped the fence, and manually pushed up the garage door. In doing so, they broke the garage door. Although they did do all the work they promised, most of the time they spent at my house involved them fixing the garage door rather than actually doing the work on the trap. In all, I think they did the actual animal work well. The birds disappeared out of my house (sadly, one died as a result of the trap shoot -- it must have been too young/little to fly when it scooted out the shoot) and the repair job they did seemed good. But the questionable process around the fee they charged and the unnecessary breaking of my garage door (admittedly, fixed) left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I might use them again because there are only two companies I know of that service SE DC where I live. But I'd be much more vigilant about pricing and process if I did.
Description of Work: I had heard noises of an animal in my back bedroom wall and ceiling. It turned out it was an infant bird. Birds had built a nest under my roof eaves and had gotten inside the house. Adcock's put in a one-way trap that would allow the birds to leave but not re-enter the nest. They then came back to seal up the hole where the birds had gotten access.

My husband had tried valiantly to trap squirrels that had gotten into our attic, but after trapping three of them, we were still hearing noises in the attic! We searched on Angie's list for a service, and decided to go with Adcock's. they were prompt, professional, and we learned a lot about squirrels from them! They took care of the squirrels, which took several weeks. They checked back with us on a regular basis. When they (and we) were sure that all squirrels were gone, they repaired the damage, including an effective barrier to keep them out.

They were very professional and we were happy with their service. They were very responsive with the weather issues yesterday. They called me first thing in the morning and the arranged the appointment so that they could get the work done before the storm hit the area. They also gave me a discount on the work done. We were so happy that we are going to have them come back to install a new kind of roof panel to prevent birds from nesting in another part of our house.

The trapper arrived and inspected that attic and the roof (where I knew that there was a hole due to the previous owner NEVER cleaning the gutters which caused a tear in the soffit and an opening to the attic. In the attic he discovered that for years (3-5) squirrels had been nesting and using the insulation for material. He set two traps and returned each day to check them and left an update of the trap status. On Day 2 I returned home after the trapper had already check the traps and got a not the nothing was caught?but to my surprise when I went to the have a look at the traps?one had a squirrel?a few hours later I was showing my husband and the other trap had a squirrel!!! The next day the trapper returned and removed the critters and reset the traps. He returned each day for a week to check the trap and leave updates, but no more squirrels. Satisfied that all the critters were captured, he placed a temporary patch on the hole. He returned for a final check on Monday May 6 and left a final update hat the temporary path had chew holes (relatives?!?!? my squirrels were release several miles away...<smile>). I wanted the hole fixed right then and there but also required gutters, siding, and new insulation so I opted to wait so that I could get better pricing with a bundle. I was told that what every contractor I fund to repair the roof need to contact Adcock to ensure that it was repaired to their standards to ensure that the 5-year no re-entry guaranteed would be valid.
Description of Work: My husband told me of noises in the attic before, but I thought that he was being dramatic…but and I began to hearing lots of loud scratching, clawing, and scampering on Thursday, April 25. I tried the radio in the attic to scare the critter off the noises just got worse (in frequency and volume) and I could not get any sleep. I contacted Adcock’s on Sunday, April 28 and a spoke with a “LIVE PERSON”. She toldme that some would could come out that day as an emergency (with fee), but I figured I could wait a day or so (after all, the critter owned the attic) …to my surprise I was able to get service scheduled the next day.

Adcocks trapping services went smoothly. They came daily, left status reports and kept us informed of their progress. Awesome service!! Called them on recommendation for a Roofing company and Angie?s List because of Raccoons in the attic and the resulting hole in the roof and needed to get rid of the uninvited house guests. Every experience with them was great, from the initial call to the office, through every visit, to the end. They came out quickly and identified the issue as Raccoons and discuss the plan for capture and removal. The tech said that they were getting in via a hole they created in the roof and a new attic fan that was installed by the previous owner. He recommended a guard to keep them out. Over the next week or so, they came out every day to check the traps. Ended up catching our house guests and once they were satisfied they had them all, the tech sealed up the hole in the roof and installed the fan guard. The techs were professional, explained everything they did, and kept us informed. I cannot say how satisfied I am with my experience and would strong recommend them to anyone.

I had a problem with birds nesting in one of my kitchen vents, also thought they were nesting on one of the exhaust pipes on the roof. I called Adcock's on Tuesday and I was able to set up an appointment with them to come on Friday. The only hiccup in their service, was that they came in the morning at around 10am and I was expecting them between noon and 4pm. However, Dean, the gentleman that came to do the work, told me that he would start doing the work and that he'd wait for me. By the time I got to my house, he had already cleaned out the kitchen vent and installed all of the bird guards. He also had inspected the roof to see if birds were nesting up there, but luckily they were not. The one nest that he found, turns out that birds have been nesting for a long time and pulled out a trash bag full of nesting material. Luckily the nest had been already abandoned, so there were no actual birds. Dean also looked up in my attic, to check for bats. There were none (luckily) but he explained that bat droppings were falling from the next townhouse (which is infested by bats) through a gap between the fire walls. He also said that a random bat could potentially get into my attic, but the infestation is in the house next door. He gave me some tips on what to do to bat proof my house. Overall it was a great experience, they were very professional and got the job done. I would definitely hire them again, although I hope I don't have to.
Description of Work: Inspected all the vents in my townhouse, removed nesting material from one of the vents. Installed bird guards in all the vents and also installed a metal screen in a vent where a bird guard could not be installed. Also, inspected the roof for possible bat entry points and also checked inside my attic for possible bat infestation.

Adcock did a good job diagnosing the problem. We happened to have raccoons climbing up our drain pipes, onto the roof, and into the attic through a hole in the attic fan. They replaced the attic fan (for $425, with metal around the fan instead of plastic). They never trapped any raccoons. The raccoons apparently left on their own. They were very professional, but charged us for visits when they had promised that the $375 charge would be a one time charge to get rid of the problem. We called about this and they removed the charge. So, they seemed competent, but did not actually trap anything for us.

Description of Work: They inspected for possible animal in the attic of the house. The initial inspection fee was $95. They didn't find any evidence of an animal in the house, and inspected the roof for points of entry. They found several places where animal could potentially get in the house, and gave me an estimate for securing those entry points. I had them come back and do the work. I called for skunk removal because our dog came in with a terrible odor on two different days, as if she'd be "skunked". Adcock's looked at the premises (holes under pool hut) and suggested that a raccoon was more likely, given that we got the smell out of our dog in 2 washings (and maybe the dog got into a decomposing animal rather than being "skunked"). They caught a raccoon the 2nd day and took it away. They were totally professional and checked the traps every day as they said they would. Their customer service was superb.

Very good experience except for the fact that when it snowed they just did not show up or call. I understand that they do not want to work on snowy roofs, but letting us know that they are cancelling and when they are going to reschedule would be nice. We had to call post-snow, to reschedule the work. That was why I gave them a B on professionalism instead of an A.
Description of Work: We had one squirrel get in to our house, which we dealt with promptly, so we scheduled our appointment, gave ourselves the weekend to catch it (we were successful) and then had Adcock's come and inspect to determine how he got in. They found chew marks on a suspected entry point and then taped it to make sure that he did not come back. When they returned, there were no additional tape marks, so we did get the one culprit (released 3 miles away). We paid them to put in the enhanced screening so that we hopefully will not have to deal with again.
