I interviewed several companies and I thought the owner of Great American was very knowledgeable and committed to giving personal attention to my job. Over the course of the work I found that to be true. We had one rather large bush die quickly but they came back and fixed it. We also noticed that the sod had a lot of weeds. They were confused by that as well, whether it was our soil or an issue with their supplier, but they re-did the whole thing at no charge. We were very pleased.

This was a big project, spanning about 2 months of work (8/25 was the completion date). Craig, the landscape architect, provided a plan that went well beyond our own ideas for beauty and utility. I did not think that some of the features were even possible. He was very flexible in terms of design and planting, and anticipated our needs in advance. He also understood our budget constraint and worked to keep cost down. Craig came by very frequently to make sure that the work was fitting the plan, and to make sure the plan was fitting the need. R and R of the retaining wall required heavy equipment and a big crew. The stone work, done by Serra Stone, is beautiful, the work of construction experts who have an exceptional talent for producing what is a work of art. Most of the work was done during 90+ degree days, but the crews came promptly around 6:30 to 7 am and put in very long days. The plantings and new sidewalk/porch stone work were done by Great American crew, again real experts with a great eye for what the project would look like and how it would be used. Adam, who was in charge of the overall construction, was extremely thoughtful and made key suggestions that improved the final product. Everyone was professional, friendly, and hard working. The demolition crew even carried some of the timbers over to my neighbor's house for a project he plans to do. We originally were going to stop with the retaining wall, stream bed, and hill planting (these 3 items were the major part of the expense), but within a few weeks it was obvious that we should do the rest of the work to obtain a consistent look and level of quality, and to go through the unavoidable pain of construction once, not twice. We could not be happier with the way it all turned out and would highly recommend Great American Landscapes for any landscaping project, particularly any project involving a substantial construction challenge.

Owner Kevin O'Neill met with us mid April 2010 to go over our requirements aand discuss possibilities. We received GAL's Landscape Proposal on April 29. We changed the Cryptomeira Evergreens from Yoshino to Radicans a newer type more suited to our needs. Job was rescheduled once due to weather. Actual work was accomplished June 7 and 8 2010. Excellent work crew. On-time and stayed late for final clean-up. Were able to make an adjustment to sodding the swale at my request with the concurrence of GAL's owmer and the on-site crew-chief. This was the second of two contracts performed by GAL. A FIRST CLASS JOB BY A FIRST CLASS COMPANY!

We worked with Matt Shoemaker at Great American Landscapes who developed several different designs for us. He provided us with great designs and a lot of pictures to help us visualize how the project would look and suggested replacement plants when a piece of his design didn't fit with our vision. We were ready to write a check and begin work, but Matt fell out of touch and did not return phone messages we left. It was unfortunate, because we would have enjoyed working with him. We eventually stopped trying to reach him and the planting season ended without any further contact.

The project went extremely smoothly from the time the president of the company came to talk to me about what I wanted, through completion of the project. They explained in detail the scope of and the order of the work. They came when they said they would, worked every day in the extreme heat, and kept the project on budget and on time. There was always a project forman on-site to oversee the project, answer questions, and describe to me what that day's work entailed. They did a wonderful job and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again or to recommend them to others. I am still delighted with my patio, retaining wall, and land-scaping.

After speaking with Kevin, the owner, about what I wanted to do, he came out promptly and after a thorough study of the landscape, with my wishes in mind, described how he could solve the problem. He was able to give me a rough estimate and a firm quote after about a day. He kept me informed of his crew’s schedule and we coordinated a time for the work to begin. Work began promptly and on time, with a courteous and professional crew on site for several days. Despite being a big project, they cleaned up at the end of each day. A miscommunication came up during the last stage of work, whereby work was not done to my exact specification. When I pointed that out, Kevin immediately acknowledged responsibility and had a crew back out the next day to make things right. A minor problem was encountered when a trailer that carried landscaping machines and equipment inadvertently strayed from my long curvy driveway and tore up some grass. Again, as soon as I mentioned this to Kevin, he had a crew out to take care of it. Throughout the process, it was a pleasure to deal with this company. Every person I dealt with was courteous, and seemed grateful for my business. They even followed up after all work was done to make sure I was happy with the job.

Wow! What a difference. It looks great. They started sooner than I expected, and finished as quickly as cement drying would allow. And they topped it off with a little TLC to the front flower bed in the area that they updated, so when they left, it looked just right.

Kevin came out within a few days. He walked the property with me and took notes about what I thought I wanted, then emailed me within a day with a full plan and estimate. The plan incorporated our wish list, and a few extras he thought would look good, and he was right. They were able to start the following week, and completed the job in two days. Kevin called me every day to make sure we liked what we saw when we got home - the first day the plants were in holes in the ground, but still in the planters so we could move them if we wanted them elsewhere. And at the end, he left detailed watering instructions. Everything looks great!

Everything looks brand now! They were really good! It took them 2 days to do this project, and they were very professional. It was exactly what I wanted! Craig followed up with me shortly after to make sure I was satisfied- That startled me! I was very impressed that they did that!
