Found Nestor via the Big Deal. He was a bit hard to get hold of, but it was worth the trouble. Estimate was quick, work was done within a week of estimate. Happy with the work, happy with the price, Nestor is exceptionally friendly and easy going. Will definitely use again.

The final product is beautiful. Nestor is a seasoned professional and very easy to work with. He is a perfectionist and that was appreciated. His crew did good work, but we would have liked to have seen a better cleanup of the stone and concrete-related material that remained on the ground under bushes near the stoop. This was a minor factor, which will not interfere with hiring Go Contractors Group again in the future, but something they will want to consider as they expand their business. We highly recommend them for masonry jobs and hope to retain them in the future for additional work.

I highly recommend G.O. Contractors. I found everyone involved in the company to be trustworthy, reliable, and thorough. Their work product was excellent and priced well below the competition. We have a courtyard in Dupont that has been a garden then modified into a playhouse for our children, 25 years ago. Finally wanting to have a concrete pad poured in order to clad it with stone down the line, we attempted to acquire bids from 4 firms. One firm said the job was too small for them and the other 2 firms had bids well above what G.O. bid on the job. The job involved an area that was 22'x20' and had existing concrete that looked like Roman ruins, a patch of soil that was 6'x20', a century of English Ivy that we did not want to lose, and an existing fence that was to be removed. Four tons of existing concrete were removed and the soil level was brought down to level with the removed concrete area. Great care was taken in saving the English Ivy, including making forms to isolate the roots from the new concrete. A trough drain pipe was to be installed coming off of an existing drain that had been plugged for 40 years. G.O. Contractors dug a trench that was 7' deep, 8' long, 4 ' wide to access the trap that was stuffed with decades of trash that an auger could not penetrate. Our wishes of having our plumber handle the problem were respected by Mr. Gomez and his crew took care of the excavation. The excavated material had to be moved several times, so that we could have our precious garage parking back. The crew was very understanding about the premium on parking and didn't hesitate to move the excavated soil until the drain could be opened and the trench filled. All was done carefully and with our convenience in mind. To add to the problem of getting the drain working, it was Spring and the contractor had to work around Mother Nature's rain schedule. Although our job was considered small, the problem of working in the city in an enclosed area highlighted the quality of work that was done. All of the work had to be done by hand including wheel barreling in all of the stones and concrete through our garage. All of the work was done meticulously and followed the contract exactly. Clean-up work was started immediately upon completion of the installation. Despite working under less than perfect conditions, the whole crew was amiable at all times. As a result of this highly satisfactory experience, we now plan to use G.O. Contractors to do any more masonry work we may have.

This was a very negative experience. Nestor seemed like such a nice guy, and claimed to have something like 20 years of experience. But he ruined my back patio with a rookie-level mistake. I wasn't even planning to have my patio regrouted, but he suggested it, pointing out places where cracks were forming and water could get in. So I agreed. Only half of the patio had cracks, so he only regrouted half of it. His workman who put the grout in was not very neat, and grout was all over the stones on either side of each crack. It was the end of the day, and I pointed out to Nestor that there was grout all over half the patio and it needed to be washed off before it hardened. But he assured me no, that they would just "take it off with acid" the next day. That seemed strange to me, but I figured, hey, he's the professional. Apparently not. The next day the grout had hardened completely. The acid did not take off any of the grout, nor did power washing. The acid also turned the new grout a white, ashy color, while the grout on the untouched half of the patio is standard brown concrete. I spent several months chasing after Nestor to try to get him to fix his mistake, but he just blew me off, over and over (he later tried blaming the workman who actually did the grouting work for the mistake, but Nestor was standing there, supervising the work the entire time). I finally got some estimates from other stonemasons to fix the damage, and all came in at above $4,000 - apparently, the only way to fix the mess is to redo that half of the patio entirely. According to these other professionals, acid is only capable of taking off a very thin "haze", not huge chunks of concrete. Also, if Nestor had used regular Portland cement, the grout would have been easy enough to chip off with a chisel, but he must have used this cheap grout sold by Home Depot that contains synthetic polymers, which is not only impossible to remove but also turns ashy white when acid is applied. So now my beautiful patio looks like crap, with messy chunks and streaks of ashy white grout all over half of it, and it will cost more than $4,000 to fix it. Nestor is nowhere to be found. All because of a "repair" I wasn't looking to make in the first place. Nestor was trying to do his first Big Deal for Angie's List at the time the work was being done. I didn't want to give a review until the work was all done, but someone from Angie's List actually called me and asked me to do an early review, so Nestor would have enough reviews to do the Big Deal. So I gave a positive review, saying his work wasn't of the highest quality, but he was nice and very cheap. Now that he's "done" with the work, I have to say that, cheap as he was, he was no bargain. I kick myself every time I look out in my backyard.

Nestor, the owner/supervisor was very accomodating. He was willing to review and try to follow specs provided by a structural engineer (which some other contractors were not) even though it was probably more trouble. He was also responsive to most requests or suggestions as the job went along. He and his workers did their best to contain the huge amount of dust created by grinding out old mortar and they were mostly successful, despite some windy days.

They arrived on time and completed the job timely as well. They provided a good servcie and maintained a clean area during the project. I'm pleased with them and the end result.
