The guy was amazing! When I told him my washing machine model and the problem, he told me how the washing machine was built and exactly what was causing the problem all without seeing it. He advised me on the next step. It was a wonderful 5 minute call.

I called the company and they stated they could get someone there in a couple of hours. The tech showed up on time, immediately diagnosed the problem and indicated he had the part and what it would cost to replace. I told him to go ahead. He replaced it and it has worked since. It was quite expensive. Next time I would shop around first to get a ballpark of cost, but I guess you pay a premium for the same day service. I believe it was 80-100 bucks for the service call, and then the balance for the part.

They were the best. They were extremely easy to schedule and very flexible. They wanted your cell phone and even if your not home they would call you in forty five minutes. They really made a huge effort to get to me. They cleaned up things really well. The guy was fantastic. He was very personable and knowledgeable. He fixed it right away and was able to get the part. He fixed it in one afternoon. It was probably a little more than what I wanted to pay but I didn t do any comparison shopping. I really can t say if it was out of line or not.

The rep. diagnosed the issue, explained to me that it was either the chopper or the motor, and told me the cost of each. I told him to go ahead and do the repair, and he had it completed in less than an hour. He tested it completely, then even wiped up the floor where he had been working. The rep. was extremely friendly and courteous, and seemed very knowledgeable about what he was doing. As an added bonus, he put on booties he had with him as soon as he walked in the door. I have never had a service call on any appliance go so smoothly from start to finish. I would without question use them again.
Description of Work: I had a dishwasher that was just filling and then stopping.

Ran the self-cleaning cycle on my oven and, at the end of the cycle, the electronic board went blank and the oven was locked and not operational. Called Same Day Service. They sent out a technician the next day as I called in the evening. The serviceman was professional and diagnosed the problem after a thorough inspection. He ordered the parts and scheduled a repair date. They came a day earlier after calling me first and promptly replaced the parts. The oven is working great.
Description of Work: Replaced blown sensor and cooling fan in oven and ran diagnostics to ensure oven and range functions were working correctly.

I EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY MACHINE. I ASKED IF THE TECHNICIAN COULD BE GIVEN MY DIAGNOSIS THAT THE START MODULE SEEMED TO BE BROKEN SO THAT THE PART COULD BE ON THE TRUCK. THEY CARRY OVER 1500 PARTS ON THEIR TRUCKS! AFTER DEALING WITH ANOTHER REPAIR SERVICE,(WHICH WAS A NIGHTMARE) I WAS SO RELIEVED. I HAD BEEN WITHOUT THE WASHER FOR A WEEK, AND IT LOOKED LIKE HELP WAS ON THE WAY!
Description of Work: I CALLED FOR REPAIR ON MY 2 YEAR OLD KENMORE HE WASHER; IT WOULDN'T START EVEN THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO SET MY SELECTIONS. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOLKS WERE EXTREMELY PLEASANT AND HELPFUL. A REPAIR TECHNICIAN WOULD BE OUT THIS AFTERNOON. THE SERVICE MANGER CALLED ME BACK WITH IN 10 MINUTES OF MY CALLING IN WITH SERIAL AND MODEL NUMBER INFO; ASKED ME A FEW QUESTIONS AND THEN HAD ME TAKE THE PHONE TO THE MACHINE SO HE COULD LISTEN. TO MY AMAZEMENT HE WAS ABLE TO WALK ME THROUGH TESTING THE MACHINE AND GOT IT STARTED OVER THE PHONE.

Excellent work except that the first technician read the electric supply wrongly which caused us to get an outside electrician who found nothing wrong, at a charge of $95 for us. Followup by a more senior technician from the company resolved the issue. They were professional enough to offer compensation for the electrician and apologized for the trouble caused by their technician.

Once we got the parking situation squared away, the service went well. We were told that it was not worth fixing. Regarding "parking" being in Cambridge, parking is tight. When the serviceman arrived, I had to tell him he could not park in my neighbor's spot (we don't have a spot), and he said there were no spots right in front of our condo. His next statement was that we should reschedule (we had been waiting 2 hours for him)! I went across the street to the restaurant and asked if they minded if he parked in front of their building while he "called his boss". I came back and told him he could park there (it was about 100 feet from out front door) and he said that he didn't think he could park that far away from where he would be working. This went on for about 5 minutes until he agreed to stay. However, after parking his truck across the street, he spent 5 minutes telling the UPS guy "his story" while I waited. During this part of the experience, it felt like our serviceman would have left if I was anything, but very pleasant. Geesh. On the plus side, he quickly "pronounced" our washer and spent some time telling us what to look for in a new one.

Service technician came on the day scheduled, examined the dishwasher and ordered the parts to repair it. Repair involved new inner door liner, hinges, tank baffle, spray area & pump seal kit. Leak testing was also done. Parts took a couple of weeks to arrive. Installation done once parts had come in. Overall it went well. Unfortunately, I had to replace the unit 8 months later because the door dropped quickly when opened.

I thought I had just a small problem with the spinning mechanism on my dryer, so I was horrified when the technician, Greg, showed up with a $550 estimate ($325 or so for the washer and another $200+ for the dryer which he recommended fixing as well although I had no problems with it) AND told me he had turned my heating off in my dryer because it was not vented properly. He would not fix the washer until the venting issue was addressed and he recommended another company. Poor guy--I was very upset and would not authorize the work. I did a ton of research and finally decided that SDS was not ripping me off. Long story short, I authorized the washing work, and Greg said he could do the venting. I am not sure if I made a mistake not having him fix the dryer (I will write a report if it breaks and say that SDS warned me!), and I am also not sure if I really needed to get the venting done, but I ended up trusting them. The other company wanted $375 for the venting work, and SDS only charged me $250. PLUS they gave me a 10% discount. Overall, Greg was kind and patient, as were the people who answered the phone.

This was the dream experience. Fridge broke at 4pm. They had a service guy there at 8am. The repairman was friendly and professional and worked efficiently. The fridge needed a new defroster and he had the parts with him in the truck. While I made breakfast he told me which fridge to buy next. Out and done within an hour.

My front load washer was making a horrible noise during the spin cycle, so I called SDS based on their Angie's List reports. I called at 10:00 A.M. and the repair man (Kim) called at 11:00 A.M. to say he was close by. He asked me about the problem with the hope of saving a service charge on the washer if the cost was too high to repair. I told him it was OK to just come and look. Sure enough, the repair would cost $600. Then he said since I had paid for the service call ($79) he offered to check any other appliances. I showed him the fridge and dishwasher which had both been acting up. He diagnosed a problem with each and gave me a cost for their repairs. Since I have to buy a new washer today I told him I'd have to wait on these. No problem. There was no pressure. I am really impressed with their quality of service! I must admit that the other reports seemed to include high costs and I actually thought twice about calling, but I'm glad I didn't. Even the estimates for the future repairs seemed reasonable.

This is a fantastic business. They made an appt. to come out the next day, they gave a 2 hour window, they called that night to confirm the time and the tech calls 1/2 hour before he comes. He came right when he said he would, he called his supervisor for information re: the stove kit price and the supervisor texted back within about 1 minute with the quote. Kris cleaned out my burners with a steel brush and explained to me how they can get clogged. He also explained the reason the stove didn't work. The kit had to be ordered so he set up another appt. right away. As I work nearby, he can call me at work 1/2 hour before he comes so I can meet him at the house and don't have to rush home and sit and wait. He was very professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and the fact that they have someone available to call when they don't know the answer is fantastic. Since I was a first time customer I received a 10% discount and put down a 50% deposit. The kit to fix the stove will cost $260 which I felt was reasonable. He told me it would take approximately 45 minutes to install the kit. He also told me that if they work until the job is done, unlike most companies who just disappear when the clock strikes 5 P.M., or worse, don't show up at all. This is an awesomely customer friendly service, the likes of which I haven't seen in many years.
Description of Work: I have a Kenmore stove. Both the stove top and oven were not working. Kris from Same Day came out and checked the burners and the oven. As it turned out, the burners were just clogged and the oven needed a "kit" to ensure that it would stay hot. The kit will be installed in a couple of days.

The technician came when he said he would and called me 30 minutes before arriving so I did not have to stay at home waiting for him. He was very courteous. He fully analyzed the fridge rather than looking for a quick fix. He told me my options and helped me weigh the value of fixing the fridge. Initially, he told me it would take a couple days to get the part, but he was able to special order it, so we had the part the next morning. He helped me figure out how to store things in the freezer so that all of our food did not go bad. When he returned with the part, he quickly fixed the refrigerator. I also told him about our dishwasher door, which he was able to quickly diagnose and fix.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator stopped working. We had been having problems with the freezer for a long time. We even had another repair company look at it a while ago. But then the refrigerator completely stopped working. The repair technician looked at the refrigerator and promptly identified the problem. He had to order the part, which he was able to get on a rush basis. He returned in the morning of the next day and replaced the part. So far, both the fridge and freezer are working well. Our dishwasher also made a terrible sound when opening the door. The technician immediately diagnosed the problem. He replaced the ball and roller system and it sounds great!

Went very well overall. I should also add mention of a good deed performed by the company for me. Being not-very-efficient, overwhelmed by simple tasks, and messy, I couldn't find the blasted contract when the icemaker broke for the second time. This meant that I had no record of which company I'd used (yeah, yeah, I know--if I'd submitted a report I'd have had a record right here), and no way to show that I'd had a contract if I did remember the company's name. (My one criticism of this outfit is the generic name. Judging by myself, you might want to get a name and logo that the dimmest homeowner can remember). So I re-searched Angie's List, picked this one as the most probable; and just called and asked them. They were polite, helpful, and found my contract in an instant, which took a lot of the headache out of this for me. For people who've had good experiences this courtesy might seem too minor to mention, but I've had more than one service company which wouldn't have even considered looking it up; let alone had the information on file. I remember, among others, an exterminating company in Brooklyn NY which refused to acknowledge that I had bought their maintenance contract even when I produced the physical contract itself and the cancelled check. Making them fulfill their obligation took a year of phone calls, letters, and threats of legal action; and when they finally gave in the work was done so badly and sullenly I wished I'd just let it go. Sorry, got a touch of PTSD.. Sadly, Virginia, once upon a time there was no Angie's List anywhere in the world & consumers had no recourse....and we walked barefoot 10 miles to school every morning....I don't really hate all you nice young people who barely remember the bad old days, I'm just a little bitter..
Description of Work: This summer the icemaker on our big expensive 4-5 yr. old fridge went blooey; tried the wait&see-with-a-Fonzie-followup method that worked so well on the 1992 fridge at our old house; finally admitted it just wasn't happening; pored over A's list; chose this company. They were not cheap. I've blocked the amt., but basically the service call cum repair price is set just enough below the service-contract price that you're strongly encouraged to spring for the whole magilla, so I did. Six or seven weeks later the damn thing acted up again and I got to congratulate myself on the wisdom of my choice. The repairman came back right away; fiddled with it; and when it started misbehaving 2 days later returned with and installled a new icemaker. It was all remarkably non-stressful. I should add that the dispatch people were courteous and helpful, and had a grip on where the company's people were, which is all too seldom the case. Also, on the first appointment the repairman threw in a new rubber seal on the refrigerator side, a new water filter, and--important on this model--the strong hands to install the blasted filter. He was a nice guy and good at his job.

On the first visit, the technician said the oven needed a new sensor, and the range needed a new spark module. The company charges a flat rate for labor, and the parts cost was reasonable. The parts had to be ordered. A second technician returned two days later with the parts, and discovered that the new parts, while necessary, did not fix the problems. We needed more parts to get the stove working. Those parts also had to be ordered. Though we did not have to pay for the third visit because of the flat fee for labor, we had to pay for the parts. All in all, it seems as though we have replaced all the parts in the stove that are likely to fail, and we spent a total of around $400. That's more than we thought after the first visit, but less than a new stove would be.
Description of Work: Our Kenmore gas stove had two problems -- the electronic ignition wasn't working on the range, and the oven locked itself shut and went into an error mode when we turned on self-cleaning. The company repaired both problems, and the stove works just fine.

Exactly as expected: punctual arrival. Pleasant repairman (Chuck) who knew his stuff, diagnosed the problem, had the right part, installed it, and protected us against future problems with the drain. My only concern was that I had no way of knowing if we got abused on the price. When you're committed to a $79 fee for them to visit, it makes it hard to say "no thanks, I'm going to shop this repair." I still am thinking of checking on how much others would charge for the same service and, if SDS is more than 10-15% higher, I'll call them on it.
Description of Work: Our washer stopped working. I called them and they confirmed the would make it to our house......the SAME DAY. They named the company well.

I would say that it is unfortunate that they have the name Same Day Service because they did not come the same day. When we did arrange a time for them to come they were very good. I just think it's a little bit of false advertising.

Technician arrived shortly after calling. [The only negative of the experience is that when I made the appointment yesterday, they didn't know when to expect a call. By midday today, however, they did narrow it down when I called.] He explained what he would do inspect, and then report what he had found. He was clear that the most likely source of the problem was probably due to excess soap, but suggested replacing the things that would likely result in a service call down the road. I didn't know what the call itself would cost, but it seemed like a reasonable step to avoid another service call in the next year or two, and with luck, it will get us through to the end of the dishwasher's life. While the machine ran after his service, he cleaned the floor around the base of the machine and carefully wiped everything down when he was finished. Very nice touch to a very thorough job. He also gave us some general advice about how to deal with soap problems.
Description of Work: We called because of intermittent leaking. We wound up replacing the gasket and soap dispenser, but on an 8-year-old dishwasher, that seemed parallel to an oil, filters, belts and hoses change in a car with 100K miles. The principal problem however, probably was a result of over-sudsing due to using too much soap. It turns out that we probably only need about 1/3 the amount of soap we had been using: 1/3 of the dispenser rather than full, unless dishes are really grimy.

Our fridge wasn't cold, so I turned up the "cold" knob. Several hours later, it still wasn't cold. I panicked, thinking do I wait and see what happens? The freezer works, why not the fridge? What do I do? Then I remembered ANGIE'S LIST!! I called a few of the people and one could come the next day. Then I called Same Day Service. This was about 4pm. They said "No problem" and that they'd have someone there by 6:00. I still had to run out to pick up my son at camp. "No problem" they said. We'll have the person who's coming call you and tell you they're on their way. And when they get there, they'll wait up to 30 minutes for you. Are you kidding me?? I thought. This is too good to be true. But sure enough, they called after I was already home, they came by, quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem, cleaned my freezer and kitchen floor to be cleaner than it was before, and left about 30 minutes after they arrived. And it only cost around $220.00. At that point, with the idea of everything in my fridge going bad and worried about some huge problem, I would have paid more than that if they had asked for it! Plus, I got a discount for having seen them on Angie's List. When I mentioned it to the repair person, he said, 'Oh great, I'll apply the discount right now." Way to go, Same Day Service! And THANK YOU, Angie's List, for saving me once again!
Description of Work: Our fridge wasn't staying cold, though the freezer was working fine. Turns out the mechanism which senses the humidity in the appliance wasn't working, so it didn't turn on the defrost mechanism in the freezer area. And once those coils in the back froze over, the cold air wasn't able to get from the freezer to the fridge compartment (it's a bottom freezer/top fridge). The person defrosted the freezer, replaced that mechanism, cleaned it all up, and we were back in business in no time!
