Beware of these folks. They are cheats!! I am posting this post so that others can learn from my experience. I had to move from upstate New York to Atlanta. I checked with movers like United Van Lines who quoted me very high (about $3000/- for my items. Their person came to my apartment, looked at the items and quoted the price). On researching through internet, I found movers named “All in the Family”. When I called them, I was transferred to Majestic Movers. I am not sure but probably it is the same company operating with different names. Majestic Movers are rated A- on bbb.org and so I decided to choose them but note that they are not accredited (something I learnt later). I called majestic Movers (spoke with person called Greg. Will withhold the last name) and they quoted me a price of $2200 which was quite low compared to the other prices I had got so far. I gave these folks an exact inventory of my items (boxes, sofas, mattresses etc. including the exact dimensions) so that there is no confusion and was assured on the price. Greg was very nice and prompt in follow-up and gave assurances on the cost and the range of dates for pickup and drop off. He was so good in following up on all my questions that I was feeling good about my move. Unfortunately this is the best part of this moving company. Everything else going forward is a turn off. On the day of pickup, I received a call from the pick-up person that he is coming to pick up in 2 hours and I be ready. Luckily I was well aware of the range of date for pick up and so was mostly packed. I did some frantic packing for the last minute stuff and somehow got ready. I called Majestic Movers and tried to talk to Greg but their customer service told me that Greg is sales and once the sale is done I cannot talk to him and should talk to the customer service (this is option 2 when you dial their number) and the pickup crew. I was a bit surprised but was okay…I told them about how I was surprised about the pickup time and did not get enough advance notice but the customer service was also surprised that the crew was showing up. Apparently there is gap of communication between the pickup crew and Majestic Movers. Note that (I realized this at the end of my ordeal) that the pickup crew and drop off crew are all contracted by Majestic movers and you are at the mercy of the crew. Once the sale is done my Majestic Movers, you are on your own. Anyways the crew showed up and started loading the stuff in my truck. The crew had a leader who did all the talking. Midway through the loading process, the crew leader told me that my stuff exceeds the total volume that I brought and I need to pay $1200/- extra if I need to take the remainder of my stuff. I had the option to choose what goes in the truck and either pay up more or figure out how I will move it separately. I was quoted $2200/- earlier based on the number of items I had and the exact dimensions I had provided. I was prepared to go a couple of hundred dollars more but this was almost 50% increase on what I was told earlier. I called the Majestic Movers customer service and they were like I need to talk to pick up crew. They cannot do anything about it. I tried talking to the sales agent Greg who had quoted me the earlier price and the customer service would not let me talk to Greg. At this time the customer service knows that I am being frantic about reaching Greg since he was the person assuring me all the time about my move and its price and every time I call the operator stalls me (Note that you are required to provide your phone number or order number and so they know who you are when you call). This went on for couple of hours and I finally gave up. I decided to trash the remaining items and stick to the $2200/- price since that was my budget. Further negotiations followed on how I had to pay $300 more since the crew did not bring their 18 wheeler which I resisted. I signed the paperwork and eventually the movers left with whatever got loaded in my truck. I moved to Atlanta and was hoping that I get the stuff within the agreed upon date range. I was to get a call couple of days earlier to confirm the times but just like the pickup experience, I never got a call. When I called customer service (this is option #3 when you call their number), first off all it take a lot of waiting time to get through and secondly I was told that there was a delay and they were unsure how long it will be. I practically called every day but received the same response. They had no dates. Basically these folks are very rude. When I tried to escalate to manager on numerous occasions, the person on the phone would say that she is the manager. I tried to talk to Greg but was stalled each time. Basically you cannot talk to the sales agent who sold you the move once the pickup crew contacts you. After that you are at the mercy of the pickup crew and drop off crew. Soon enough after a 2 week delay from the drop off date, I get a call from the drop off crew. Now the drop off crew comes in a 18 wheeler. They could not get into my apartment complex in Atlanta. When I had spoken with Majestic movers at the time of getting the price quote, the sales guy, Greg looked on google maps and told me that I do not need to move my stuff from the 18 wheeler to the small truck to get into my apartment complex. Note that this is an extra $300/-. Soon the drop off crew leader started negotiating on the price. We wanted $400 more because I had stairs to my apartment complex (something which was told earlier and was included in my price….the drop off crew told me that I was charged for stairs at my NY apartment. I had no stairs there and I needed to get it corrected form customer service who was unavailable and deaf to whatever I tell them). After a lot of negotiation (the Majestic Movers customer service is useless and hands off in all this), the drop off crew leader and I came to an extra price of $200. You need to pay the drop off crew first and only then they start moving your stuff. This was a huge leap of faith given my experience but I was so tired by now. Fortunately this crew was good about keeping their word. I did get all my stuff some of which was broken and I had to file claims. Fortunately the stuff that was broke was not super expensive and at this stage I was just relieved to not be talking to Majestic Movers. I am still waiting to hear back from claims and do not have high expectations. I will never go with Majestic Movers again. These folks are a bunch of frauds.
