I am a new home-owner with an old gas furnace (28 years old). Used Angie's List to get ARS to check out and service the furnace prior to winter. ARS contacted me promptly and was easy to deal with on the phone to make an appointment. Service person arrived when promised and was very professional. He inspected the furnace, clearly explained the findings to me, including showing me the photo of the (cracked) heat exchanger and showing me the low-but-detectable level of carbon monoxide emission. Explained that I needed a new furnace-- not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciated the clear explanation. A sales person from ARS later contacted me to discuss options-- they will be putting in a high efficiency gas furnace and a new water heater later this week. I felt comfortable choosing ARS (without getting a second opinion) because of the clear explanation and good service, partly because I don't want to wait when there is carbon monoxide coming out of the furnace, and partly because of the excellent ratings and reviews on Angie's List. The price for the replacements seems reasonable (in line with what I read on Angie's List and on the Web) and the $89 service fee will be credited toward the purchase price. Addendum: Install of hi-efficiency gas furnace and hybrid electric water heater went well.

I "discovered" ARS through an Angie's List coupon and I was very impressed by their service and by Eric. Eric -from Ars- showed up on-time. He is extremely courteous and knowledgeable. I also very much appreciated how considerate he was of the house by wearing shoe-covers. He quickly checked the furnace, tuned it a little to match the manufacturer's specs and that was it. Very honest, courteous and to the point. Eric also spent few additional minutes going over the possibilities for installing Central Air (at my request).

They don't work on gas conversion furnaces. Should have said so in ad.

Did a great job getting my furnance ready for winter. Highly recommend!!

The provider (Eric) was punctual, courteous, professional, and respectful of my home. He serviced both my heating and air conditioning systems and gave recommendations on maintenance. As indicated, he was excellent in every category. Perhaps I misunderstood the promotional relative to cost - which was $89 for each system (I had expected $89 for both.) Irrespective of my misunderstanding, I believe the price was fair. I would recommend ARS (specifically Eric) to others, and will certainly use the service again.

When I spoke to a representative on the phone, I explained that I had oil heat. He thought that they could handle that. The young man who came was very pleasant and polite, but he explained that he was not equipped to do an oil burner. Later that day I received a phone call from ARS explaining that they didn't do oil burners. The company was responsive and polite, the first gentleman on the phone was just mistaken. Not a big problem.

Eric came to tune our heating system but he could not run it due to a missing valve. He recommended to replace the whole system which we ended up doing. The replacement is still not finalized. I will write a separate review for that.

1st Unit needed parts replaced. Company unable to find parts and suggests no alternatives. 2nd Unit was not working properly, and my only options was to replace my furnace

It was fine. It is only the end of the summer so I don’t really know if there will be any problems. They charged me an extra $100 for my second unit. They gave me the same price as the big deal, so they honored the price. They said I could go back into Angie’s List and purchase another coupon or I could pay them directly and I thought it would be easier because all I had to do was give them my credit card. The tech showed up when he was supposed to and he seemed knowledgeable. He might have been about fifteen minutes late but he called to say he had traffic. They were accommodating with my schedule.

It did not go well. The scare tactics this company uses is deporable and some should investigate them. The tech told me over the phone that my downstairs furnace needed to be immediately replaced because of the danger looming of co going into the house because of a damaged exchanger. He even referred to my wife, my kids, and my dog as part of his scripted nonsense. I immediately called a friend who owns and HVAC business who sent out one of his techs to the house who let us know that this companies review of our sytem was completely inaccurrate. Beware of this companies nonsense I think our tech's first name was David. This is the first time I used Angie's list and I am canceling my memebership because of this experience. Just awful.

They offered to do my rebates for me! Taze Picard is the guy to call and Dale with his team did the job flawlessly. Very responsive and reachable group. I like them and would recommend them.

The tech who arrived was ontime and professional. He noted that our 12yr old had the wrong size blower in it and did further investigations that showed that the prev. owners had not been servicing it well. We unfortunately will need to replace the furnace, which is in keeping with other lacks-of-home-caretaking that we have found in this home since we purchased it Oct 2012. He gave us several options on pricing and stated ARS will be available as one of the companies that works with the MassSave program to help home owners replace outdated systems with high efficiency ones. He did not try to push us to buy a furnace, simply pointed out the problems we would be facing.

The technician that came spent more time doing the work than he was supposed to without any extra charge. He was very detailed doing the work. However, he kept asking me my age and he was a bit pushy, which I didn't like.

Did everything as expected and fixed a few flaws that needed changing. Explained everything.

ARS was wonderful, and I would definitely hire them again. Dave showed up right on time, and was very pleasant the whole time. He brought me downstairs after the work was completed to explain what he had done, and give me some pointers. He went above and beyond and also did a few extra little things for me that were safety concerns. These were things he totally didn't have to do as they were not included in the price. Very knowledgeable guy, I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

ARS was very responsive and scheduled the service fairly quick. The service person was ahead of the schedule and called to check whether it's okay to come earlier. The service went well.

Both technicians arrived on time and were very straightforward about what would be done. The work was completed on time and the area was cleaned up. They showed me what they had done, how to start up and run the system and how to replace the air filter. They also suggested that I register the unit online at the manufacturer's website.

ARS was very quick to respond and helpful in setting up an appt. The service window is pretty long (8a to noon) and due to traffic in the area the service guy didn't get here until closer to the end of the service window. He was very thorough and took a lot of time explaining the unit to us since this is our first time with a steam boiler. When going through everything he seemed to know what he was talking about and definitely took the time to talk with us and check to make sure things were working properly (he was here for about an hour). The only concern is that since ARS was here, we have had to call a plumber and he was surprised that ARS told us that "water hammering" is expected with these units. According to the plumber - water hammering is a sign that cold water is collecting in the pipes - so we may have called a plumber sooner to address this issue but didn't think it was a big deal. While this is nothing ARS was responsible for as part of the Big Deal we purchased it would have been helpful information.

Showed up on time, replaced a switch that didn't need replacing, and informed me that the furnace had a cracked heat exchanger and couldn't be used any more. Now, the furnace was 24 years old and I knew it was near the end of the useful life, but I got the vibe that the point of the coupon was to find customers to buy new furnaces, not actually service the old ones. I did get an estimate. We went over to the other house and he looked at the duct that needed to be moved, and gave an estimate. The furnace replacement estimate was $1000 higher than the second estimate I received, and the duct move estimate was also the highest of three, so that was the end of my relationship with ARS.

I am really glad I bought this Angie's list Big Deal. They came out on time, serviced the furnace for a good hour. After that I was called down to take a look at the problems with my furnace. He clerarly showed me what was wrong, told me the life he expects is left in the furnace and made a phone call for a rough ballpark price for what it would cost to have it replaced. He had no hidden prices, was very personable and did not try to sell me a new furnace on the spot. I was very pleased with this service and happy I used it.

I purchased this as a "Big Deal." I received a response very quickly, and made the appointment for 7-9 a.m. Unfortunately, on the day of the appointment, I called at 8:55 a.m., b/c the guy hadn't arrived. The woman on the phone said that he was stuck in traffic and would be there by 9:30 a.m. I specifically made the appt. early so that I wouldn't be late to work, so I was fairly annoyed. When the guy got to my house (between 9:15 and 9:30), he went right to work. He seemed to know what he was doing, and was very efficient. He adjusted the temperature setting, but didn't need to do anything else. He made sure that everything was working correctly. He was extremely polite and pleasant, and we had a nice chat while he was checking the furnace. He was professional in every way except showing up late to work. I might use this company again, but the appointment time issue is a problem. The guy told me that he was driving from New Bedford. Apparently, he didn't leave his house before 7 a.m. -- so there was no way he would be on time. He said that this was always a problem when he was assigned early appointments. That tells me that the company should assign someone else for early appointments, or that this guy needs to leave his house much earlier. After all -- when I have to be at work at 9 o'clock, I can't just leave my house at 9 a.m.! I obviously need to leave early enough to make it to work by 9 a.m. This guy needs to do the same.

I purchased a Deal on Angies List for ARS to perform a tune-up on my furnace. It was the first preventitive maintenace that I have had done on the unit as we purchased our home 11 months ago. The value is exceptional. Mark arrived 5 minutes early with all appropriate equipment to perform the job. He spend an hour going over the unit with me, explaining each check that he performed. He answered all of my questions and was knowledgable and polite.

We purchased a big deal for the service, and they were good. They delivered what they said they were going to deliver, and they were good. There was some delay, because they were running in their busy season. I didn't pay anything extra other than the price of the big deal. The pricing was great because it was a big deal.

Eric A. showed up between the hours described and was very freindly and corteous, even wore covers for his feet to prevent any dirt from outside into the home! Work was preformed very quick and painless. very happy with the work and will be calling again for my next service!

He was thorough, explained many things about our system and issues in our house in plain English. I feel I have a better understanding of what is going on. Very nice, punctual and helpful. Importantly, he did not call the previous HVAC companies idiots nor did he try to insist I replace most of the system (which seems to be unfortunately what often happens). I will definitely call them in the spring for the AC.
