It was just fine. They accommodated my schedule. I was happy with what they did. The price they charged was reasonable. They found a couple issues that needed to be addressed. They were professional and on-time for the service. A different provider was going to charge twice what ARS charged us.
Description of Work: They provided a tune-up on two gas furnaces and two electric AC units. These are Trane units. One technician was out for at least three hours.

Prior to selling our house we had ARS inspect and clean our heating system. They found that the heat exchanger was failing and leaking fumes into the house. The technician showed me exactly where the failure was and patiently explained what the situation was and my options. I was worried since this happened on the coldest week of the year, but ARS was able to return the next day with a new furnace and had it installed in less time than they promised. I didn't feel like I was in a position to shop around so I cannot comment on the price. Everyone I dealt with at ARS was helpful and professional. I called back a few months later to get documentation for our buyers and they were helpful again, even though it took a couple calls. Also, although it is not a reflection of ARS, I am only writing this review because Angies List prompted me to EVERY time I logged in for the last year! BOO!

He provided me with a quote for that service running in the Thousands of dollars range. I had another company come out and perform the service for just $80.
Description of Work: He came to check the air conditioning unit and informed me that the fan and motor were very dirty and needed to be cleaned and replaced.

Other than telling me that I should probably replace the coolant before next year, he offered no useful information. What I was left with was an ill-fitting air filter that he put in that I had to replace and a lighter wallet for essentially nothing of use. I cannot recommend this provider. The cursory inspection I could have lived with but the hack job on my air filter was entirely unprofessional.
Description of Work: Service performed a cursory inspection of my central cooling system and condenser, then, without asking permission, he removed my air filter that I just installed 2 weeks ago and replaced it. Only, he didn't have the right size replacement so he DUCT TAPED 2 filters together and jammed it into my system.

tune up/inspection went fine. However I scheduled some other services with that company - specifically to complete the installation of another a/c system in my new addition. All it needed was for the lines to be connected and the system purged and charged. While scheduling the service appointment, I asked if they could fill out the forms to get me a $150 federal rebate and they said yes. The rebate required that the forms be filled out by a licensed installer. I never got the rebate and they were horribly unresponsive when I called for updates. I was promised return phone calls several times and never received a single call-back. Finally I was told that they wouldn't get me the rebate because they didn't sell me the hardware. I won't do business with them again.

So we had our AC unit looked at on 7/26 (nearly two months ago) and we have yet to have a follow appointment. I've spoken with them several times and every time the story is different -- first they've ordered the part and they're waiting for it to come in, then they were waiting on a write up from the technician, then the technician was with another customer, finally they're having trouble ordering the part and asked that I email pictures of the unit with serial information. I did that and still nothing back. I've basically given up and plan to go with another company at this point. It annoys me because they got my quick $99 and then were done with me (despite having a pretty serious issue that could have cost upwards of $1000 according to the technician). In a nutshell, it started out well, but ended poorly due to a severe lack of follow up. Not really shocking since this was a common complaint from others on this company. As a result I've given them F's in Responsiveness and Professionalism.
Description of Work: I purchased a $99 Deal through Angie's List for an AC unit check up. I was able to set up the appointment right away, but they couldn't get to me for a couple of weeks (assuming because of the number of other people who purchased the same coupon). The technician who came out to perform the service was a great and very thorough. He determined the problem and said he would get back to me with an estimate... And that's when things went south. See my comments in the "How'd it go?" section.

My technician, Ryan, was fabulous. They did a great job! They called me and told me they had a cancelation and could get me in earlier than anticipated. He went through everything with me during the inspection. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all my questions. He showed me how to change the filters, as well. He seemed very friendly.

Tech co has the service invoice, my date is an estimate as I do not remember it. For $88 tech was supposed to do tune up and clean up.. Tech came and went outside to do the tune up of 2 ton unit. He came back in and said unit is old and needs capacitor additional cost cost $150.00. Unit worked for few days and slowly stopped cooling. I had another tune up coupon with same company but for my office. Another tech from same company came to my office, went outside and checked 3 ton unit and came in and said he has installed capacitor and to pay him additional cost $250. Did I not hear this before at my home. I told him that I did not authorize this capacitor service. He said he will remove it which he did/ but left mess behind. So be careful, be on the top the tech.
Description of Work: Provider was supposed to tune up and clean outside ac unit . What ge didnot do is a decent job instead he charged additional $159 for capacitor which is useless.NOW

I had called them because A.C. was working but wasn't giving the cold air. They were right on time, very professional fixed the problem. I had to pay more than coupon deal since cold gas was over and they had to fill that.

It didn't go well. I was given a window of when they would show up. It was 95 degrees in the condo and waiting wasn't fun. When they didn't show up close to the end of the window I called and the said he would be here near the end of the window but they changed the window to later hours. I asked if they could give me a call when he was on his way and they said no problem. They called me when he was on his way and he showed up without a problem. Besides the communication problem this wasn't a big deal. The tech checked the compressor on the roof and said it was dead. I asked what cause the problem and he said that it was a bad unit. I asked what kind of unit and he said he never heard of it. it was some kind of contractor grade unit. He recommended replacing it with a Lenox unit. I said OK and asked how much it would be. He said he was kinda new and that I'd have to call the office and talked to sales but he thought it would be about $6500 including the crane and police unit that would be needed to lift the unit in place. I did a little research. My unit is a Ducane. Which is owned by Lenox. between the tech not knowing that and him telling me he was relatively new I wanted to know more before committing. I called the office to ask some questions. Things like, what cause the unit to fail. If I replaced the unit would this just happen again? What's the cost break down. I called 4 times and was told they had to get a hold of the tech and they would call me back. They never did. Finally after about a week and half I called and asked to speak with someone right then because I wasn't receiving calls back. I was put on hold and a rep came on the phone. I said I wanted to ask some questions. Including what the cost break down was. I new the unit was probably in the $1200 range so I wanted to know the rest. I was told that they don't do things that way. the tech said it was $6500 so it was going to be $6500. The guy actually got pretty aggressive and rude with me. I had had enough. I wasn't going to give them the business if they couldn't be bothered to call me back or answer some questions. I called another service. They came right over, said the compressor wouldn't start. They replaced 2 parts and it started right up. Including the service call it cost me $350. I know have nice cold air.
Description of Work: My air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. ARS had previously come over to do a maintenance check so I called them. I paid $100 dollars for them to com out and take a look at the problem. I was told my compressor on the roof was dead and I needed a new one it would be $6500.

I showed him the oil leak faucet from my furnace and a second leak appeared after he left - I was told I needed a lot of replacements cant remember off hand and was quoted $1200 for one part to be replaced - I declined

Air Conditioning had stopped working and we had no idea why. David gave an accurate and honest diagnosis of the problem which was a clogged drain. He repaired it with no problem. He presented as very knowledgeable about ACs and Boiler systems.

I called angieslist to find out how to get a refund of my $99 tune up and angieslist asked for more information . this is the information, how do i get the refund?

All-in-all, the ARS service guys did a very professional job, especially considering how old our A/C unit is. That said, their sales and appointment-setting people seem a little scattered. I followed the Angie's List instructions for setting up an appointment, but got an answering machine and left a message. The next day, someone called, but was responding only to my online purchase of the Angie's List special and clearly knew nothing about my voicemail message. Voicemail exchanges continued another couple of days before i finally spoke to someone who was nice and helpful. That part needs work, but the repairs themselves were done very well and were very reasonably priced.
Description of Work: ARS was called to do a "tune-up" on our central air conditioner. Before they got here, however, we discovered that the condenser or compressor outside was no longer kicking in and would most likely need some kind of repair. Their man came, discovered that the fan was basically rusted in place, barely moving, which would overload the circuit and it would shut off. He said he would have to order the part because our air conditioner is 27 years old and they simply don't keep parts for a unit that old in stock, which made sense. It took 2 weeks for the part to come in, but as soon as ARS was notified that the part was on its way, they called me to schedule installation, so it actually took less than the original 2 week estimate. A different guy came out the second time, but he knew at least as much as the first guy and had the new fan installed and working great in no time. He was also very thorough, checking all the electrical inputs to make sure everything was properly connected and carrying the proper amount of watts, amps, or whatever it needed to avoid overloading or underperforming. He then did the tune-up that I had called about originally, showed me everything he had done, and was on his way.

Much to my surprise it went excellent. As a rule I don't have good luck with contractors. My third time using ARS Bridgewater, once for AC, twice for plumbing. It has been a positive experience.
