After signing up for the Angie's List Big Deal gas furnace tune-up/inspection offered by ARS,they arrived promptly and professionally. They did a thorough inspection and fully explained everything they were looking at in simple terms that a new/non-handy homeowner (myself) could understand. During the course of the inspection, they noticed a cracked heat exchanger. The technician allowed me to see where it was cracked and explained that it was a safety issue because carbon monoxide could potentially be leaked into the home when using the furnace. The technician went through my two options (buy a new furnace system or replace the heat exchanger on the existing system) and discussed the pros and cons of each option taking into account the age of the existing system. I particularly appreciated that they did not try to pressure me into the more expensive option. We decided to replace the heat exchanger. The tech was able to provide an on-the-spot quote and then ordered the necessary parts. Another technician, who was equally pleasant/professional came later that week (on a Saturday!!!) to install. Heat has been working great since and I will definitely use ARS in the future. Total cost: $99 for initial inspection; $1450 for heat exchanger less 5% Angie's List coupon so it was approximately $1375.
Description of Work: Hired for a gas furnace tune-up and inspection. During the inspection, ARS identified a safety issue with a cracked heat exchanger and was hired to come back a second time to replace.

The service was good. He came out and there wasn’t any problem. It was just kind of an inspection. He did what he needed to be done and did not try to up-charge me or anything, and he was very professional. He was on time.

Ryan Love was the technician that ARS sent out. He arrived within the scheduled window and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He quickly found the problem and fixed it (insulation fell into the blower motor causing the unit to overheat and shut off), but still did a full inspection of the unit to make sure there were no other safety issues. He pointed out a hairline crack on the heat exchanger (which I would have never noticed, but it was there), and explained what this meant, but did not push me into any costly repairs. Excellent service and great price. I found my new go-to heating company. Just for the sake of comparison, I called two other places, but neither one was as responsive as ARS.

They were fantastic. I had scheduled the inspection and they came within two days. He looked at the boiler that we have and started to do tune-up work, but then he told us that he couldn't actually perform the tune up and advised that we replace the boiler due to age (it's 50 years old) and because it is inefficient. This boiler also had a bad control box.

After purchasing the Angie's List big deal within hours I was contacted by ARS to set up an appointment. I was quite surprised because I assumed I would need to contact the to schedule the appointment. A few minutes later I had an appointment for the following week. The technician arrived right within the time and quickly set to work to complete the service. Jim was very personable, professional and helpful. He made some good recommendations about repair and maintenance work that would need to be completed in the future.

I recently bought a house and had ARS come out to perform a tune up. The technician was great and really helped me gain an understanding about the heating system, which is something I had no previous experience with. Unfortunately I had many issues with my system and ended up getting a brand new system and a chimney liner. Before scheduling the appointment I talked to Dave, the original technician, several times about the new system I was considering. He was very responsive to emails and helped answer all of the questions I had for him regarding my options moving forward. While a new heating system wasn’t something I had expected to need he really did a great job answering all of my questions and putting my mind at ease. One I selected a new heating system the installation guys were equally as amazing. They were right on time and stayed late to make sure everything was working properly before they left. They even swept the floor to ensure they left all of the areas as clean as when they got there. Overall I had a great experience with this company from start to finish and would recommend them to anyone. Thank you!

ARS arrived as scheduled and performed the work efficiently. The new furnace was damaged so they found us another promptly. ARS kept us updated and informed about the work. They were professional and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to call them for help with our furnace in the future. We are very pleased with the whole experience.

They were very responsive and nice to speak with. Recommendation was to install a large propane tank and subsequent gas furnace. Compared to alternatives, this is a very costly and inefficient system. ARS seems to have good and knowledgeable staff but simply seem to be representatives of Lennox HVAC systems which limits their ability to give the best solution for some folks, including me.

The serviceman arrived on time and was very polite. He inspected the furnace and when I asked if he could turn on the humidifier, he agreed, however, he stated the humidifier needed a good cleaning and decalcification. I asked if he could perform that service, since it is an essential part of my winter HVAC system, and he stated he could not since ARS did not service drum humidifiers. He offered to replace the humidifier with a Lennox model, the only type ARS sold and serviced. I asked what the price would be (though my humidifier and HVAC system were only 10 years old) and he stated it would be $1,100.00. When I showed my surprise he made a derogatory ethnic slur. When he could tell I was stunned by what he had just said, he said he was sorry and that the ethnic slur was just a common "Southern" expression and he had recently relocated to Massachusetts from Tennessee. I told him that using expressions like that was not tolerated in MA. He then stated that I may have a crack in the heat exchanger, but since his camera was in the shop to be fixed, he would have to send out an expert who had tools that worked. I had asked him to change my furnace filter, since I had one in the basement, and he did so. After he left, he reminded me that his supervisor would call to make an appointment to return in 6 days to check the heat exchanger, to be sure nothing was wrong, because a crack could cause a carbon monoxide leak and result in death. Three days later, I tried to turn on the heat and nothing happened. It was a Sunday and the emergency technician was contacted. I stated that a technician had bee out two days before and he stated that the tech probably had turned off the furnace using the basement switch and had not turned it back on. If I could just run downstairs and turn it on, everything would be fine. I told him that one reason I have someone do this service is because I am in a wheelchair and unable to go to the basement. He suggested I contact a neighbor since he was 75 miles away. Within the hour I contacted a neighbor who was home and they turned on the switch which enable the thermostat to function. they also brought up the dirty furnace filter which had been left propped up next to the furnace. The following Tuesday, a Mr. Hubbard, the tech's supervisor arrived to check the furnace with a functioning camera. I had invited a neighbor over to observe him while he was in the basement. After lengthy explanations, Mr, Hubbard's stated that his conclusion was that there was no crack in the heat exchanger but I should have them check it every six months, lest a carbon monoxide leak develops. He again apologized for the tech's inappropriate remark but reassured me that he probably meant no harm, because he was also from the South and that kind of language was acceptable. I stated that I had lived in Maryland fort 40 years and never had any technician use an ethnic slur. I did not appreciate Mr. Hubbard's attempt at justifying that type of behavior. The customer service representative called me multiple times to apologize and try to find a resolution. I accepted the apologies.

ARS installed furnace in 2008. For most years, I have annual tune-ups of the furnace. At times, this was included as part of the maintenance service contract, maintained with ARS. However, for last few years, I've been using the Angie's list deal, or direct deal from ARS. The technician, Mark, performed the service. Mark is polite and efficient. And performed this thorough cleaning maintenance of the furnace. I would use ARS services again

We utilized an Angie's List deal for a complete furnace check. The tech was very thorough and professional. He replaced a worn part at a reasonable cost and removed hard to reach filters for replacement. I called his supervisor to compliment him.

I thought the price was fair. but what do I know I never replaced a roof top AC unit and an heat pump in the closet and cut and access hole. I think his estimate was around 22,000. But I had to get a carpentor to close the wall where he cuts the access hole. and someone to paint the wall. Extras. I thought foe that kind of money I should at least get another price, I did. He looked at it and agreed I should replace the heat pump but he didnt see a problem with the AC on roof, it was only 7 yr old. We told him what the other company said, and he asked if he could work up aprice for the complete sytem, we said yes. He came back, with same system for 18,000. Also the important part. They do the complete job. Finish off the access panel, no other people to hire. Needless to say we went with the orther company. I was also alittle put out the the first company called me to say they couldn't clean and service the unit yet they didn't offer to give me back the cleaning fee I paid. They don't charge for estimates, and they almost got the job

Company came out today to do a system diagnostic and found a couple of problems. I had asked if we could apply the $99.00 big deal value to the diagnostic. They said no, because we have an oil burning system and their coupon was for a gas system. They charged my credit card $135.00 for the diagnostic trip. So all I want is the $99.00 we paid for the original big deal credited to my card. Thank You, so much.
