Description of Work: I recently had my front and back door replaced by Three Sons Window & Door. I cannot say enough about my experience. Everything went very smoothly from ordering to install and they look beautiful. They arrived promptly and completed the work quickly and cleaned up after themselves. You would have never known they were there, except for the New Doors!! I will definitely contact them in the future for other work and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs new doors or home improvements!

It is not a one mile radius. We are unable to go to that Jamaica Plain location at this time based on miles (over 15 miles from our office) , parking restrictions in that city plus travel time to get to that location. We do appreciate you calling and are asking around for other contractors who might service that area. We will happily email you this information once we get an answer.

Despite receiving great reviews here, and good references from clients we called, Three Sons drained our time, tested our patience and did a decidedly mediocre job. Our initial impressions were favorable, as Paul (the owner) was pleasant and punctual in providing an estimate last fall. His quote was far cheaper than others from Angie's List A-rated companies, and he was one of few contractors with tall enough ladders to work on a triple-decker that begins well above street level. We had to contact Three Sons at least three times to get a reference list. Once we checked a couple references (all positive), we signed a contract with them over the winter and requested that the two-week job (Paul's time estimate) be completed during the last two weeks of July while our family would be away. Two weeks before this date, I recontacted Three Sons to get things rolling. Paul sent over Steve, a sub-contractor who does their painting. Steve wanted to start the job a week early due to his vacation schedule, which we agreed to. He explained right away that the job would probably take at least four weeks. Another painter, Eddie, showed up to do the bulk of the scraping and painting. Eddie was polite, quiet, and cleaned up thoroughly each day (with the exception of two trash bags that sat around for weeks). However, after a few days, we noticed that Eddie was scraping down the windows, despite our contract stating that they'd be trimmed. It turned out that Steve and Eddie had never seen our contract! I ended up taping a copy at the back door for their reference. Our major issue with the painters is that they did not follow our instructions regarding paint/color choice. Steve had suggested a flat paint to mask the terrible condition of our shingles, and pointed to our neighbors' home as an example. He then purchased a semi-flat paint that instead highlights the many defects in the shingles. When I told him that the paint looked shiny, he told me that it was still drying - but it looks exactly the same today. In addition, Steve did not correctly match the paint on the doors, despite our request to keep all colors the same. As a result, the doors are no longer a deep red but instead a reddish orange. When the downstairs neighbor told Steve that the color did not appear to match the original, he told her that it would look different when dry. It does not. About a week or two into the painting portion of the job, and before sending any of their own workers out to start on the trim, Three Sons asked for our second (of three) payments. We left them three checks (from each of our condo members), but there was a fourth check nearby that was one member's final payment. Three Sons collected and cashed this check as well. When I called Paul to explain their error, he told me that they had taken and cashed the check because they'd expected to finish the job by that time. In fact, the job took at least two more weeks. A week after the time we'd scheduled them to begin, Three Sons began working on the trim. Their workers were noisier (loud radio, shouting, even swearing at times, etc.) and did minimal clean-up each day. By the end of the week, there were empty bottles, sandwich bags, and coffee cups strewn not only in our enclosed back yard (through which I enter the house from my parking spot) but also blowing onto our neighbor's side yard. The final clean-up was also minimal. Workers left sharp pieces of metal all over our front porch, despite having met our infant and toddler; many pieces of plastic and trash in the back yard; and numerous nails and two razor blades in the back yard. I called Paul on several occasions to request painting touch-ups, additional clean-up, etc. He was polite and responsive, but when he sent out unsupervised workers, they rarely completed the job the first time. For example, when we noticed that the painters had left paint spray on virtually every window in the building, it took three separate visits from Three Sons and/or Steve to remove the paint completely (each visit required a call to Paul, scheduling someone to come over, letting them into the house, etc.). Since the trim was put on after the paint job, some painting needed to be done after the trim job to repair damage, paint newly replaced shingles, etc. This took some time because in the meantime Steve had lost the number for the paint color and did not complete the job the first time he came (failing to paint a few shingles in the back). The downtime between painting and trimming, the need to repaint some areas after the trim was put on, and the multiple visits for clean-up, led this job to take five and a half weeks instead of the initially estimated two weeks. In sum, we were disappointed by: the time the job took, the lack of communication between Three Sons and their painting sub-contractors, errors in paint selection, insufficient/hazardous clean-up, and the failure to get the job done right the first time.
Description of Work: Trimmed windows and doors of our triple-decker in metal, replaced a small number of shingles, and painted the exterior. Building maintenance had been neglected for some time and exterior was in very poor condition.

Three Sons Remodeling was contracted to (1) Wrap all doors and window casings with aluminum trim coil (2) Wrap all roof line trim boards with aluminum trim coil (3) Power wash and scrape entire body of house (4) Replace all missing shingles in preparation for paint (5) spot prime entire house and (6) apply two coats of Benjamin Moore exterior latex paint. We performed our wok to the letter of the contract and received payment in full for the work completed. All punch list items were addressed and corrected. When we left the job, the customer seemed to be satisfied as payment in full was received.

The fall of '08 I requested 3 estimates for the work I wanted to have done. Rob from Three Sons came out to do one of the estimates. Because of the price, having seen work done by Three Sons around my city, and the way Rob represented himself and the company, I chose Three Sons Remodeling to do the work. Rob continued to be my contact. It took awhile for the windows to come in, so work was not begun until after the first of the year. The brunt of the work was done and completed in the cold winter weather. I was amazed at how well the men were able to work and get as much done in a day as they did in the freezing cold. They seemed to be a "well-oiled" machine. I always looked forward to coming home at the end of the day to see what had been done and usually wasn't disappointed. I found it easy to communicate with at least one person who was on the job any given day. Clean-up was pretty good, but I did need to do some of my own. Although there were some issues that resulted when the old siding was removed, Three Sons took full responsibility and repaired/paid to repair anything that had been damaged or broken. Sometimes it took awhile, but Rob was easy to communicate with about the different things and they eventually got done to my satisfaction. A few months after the job was completed, I noticed a couple of things that hadn't been noticed before and Rob pleasantly took care of them. At the "end of the day", I was more than satisfied with the final result.
Description of Work: 23 old windows were removed, replcement windows installed; old vinyl siding removed, new vinyl siding installed; patio door installed where there previously was none; some new panelling, window trim and trim put up: in bathroom a double hung window was taken out, a smaller awning window installed and new wallboard put up

Paul came out to give us an estimate promptly, and subsequent communication with Rob by phone/e-mail received a quick reply. Sal and the crew arrived on time all three days and got right to work, very professional. When they began to do the garage roof, we noticed that they were laying new shingle over the old, which we didn't want. Rob was not on site, but was available by phone, and got the crew to stop work. After clarifying that we wanted the old shingle removed first, the guys got the job completed the next day. We were impressed with their response to this incident. Rob also had Sal come by later to replace the drip edge on the garage.

Overall it went very well. They were very responsive, returning calls and estimates promptly. This is a family owned business and Paul is extremely pleasant to deal with and had good ideas about the house. They were on-time, quick, and clean. He removed some snow from our roof (we were having ice dam issues) at no cost before we told him we had decided to use them. Siding replacement (changed style, had to match color) was excellent. Roofing crew could probably use a little more supervision-came home one day when they had finished the section of the roof where we had had leaks--I asked them how it went and they asked ME where the leak was! I think they're a little pricey--but you get what you pay for--the service and professionalism were excellent.

My very old house was ready for siding. I solicited quotes from 3 different contractors. I selected Three Sons based on price, reputation and their willingness to listen to my desired outcome and to make recommendations to make that outcome a reality. The work began on the date promised. Clean-up, on a daily basis was excellent. The workers were working by 7 AM every morning. They were friendly, professional and focused on the job at hand. When I had questions or needed information, I had no trouble reaching someone to get an answer. Every day I would come home from work, amazed at what had been accomplished during the day. Neighbors stopped me on the street to compliment me on the progress and final product. The workers, materials, workmanship and follow up were top notch. This company went above and beyond to work with me (and my budget) to provide me with a final product I am thrilled with!
Description of Work: My two-family house needed siding, in addition to the demolition of the upstairs front porch and upstairs back porch. The downstairs front porch then required rebuilding.

As always everything went great. They started the jobs when they promised & completed them very quickly. All workmanship & quality is excellent. They completed extra siding work on a roof project because they where not happy with the way the exciting siding was attached to the structure. They replaced this old siding with new siding at no additional charge. I am very happy with Three Sons Remodeling. I use them exclusively because I know they will come through in all aspects of any of the work I need.
Description of Work: Three Sons has completed several roof & siding projects for many of my properties and the condominium association that I sit on the board of Trusties. Three Sons is professional, trustworthy, price competitive & the quality is great. Three Sons is the only company I use for Roofing, Siding Porches, Deck & more.

When I called to get an estimate, they were very prompt about sending someone around. He was very nice and very professional. The estimate was sent quickly. Once I accepted the estimate and paid the 50% deposit, things got harder. It took me several calls to get an installation date scheduled. I was finally scheduled for early November when the weather was still quite nice and temperatures were in the 60s. They didn't show up on the scheduled date, and as an excuse incorrectly told my husband (who had taken the day off) that I had not confirmed the date. We rescheduled for a couple of weeks later, and I waited and waited, then when I called to find out where they were, I was told they were hung up on a job and couldn't make it. I told them they had one more chance before I was going to ask for my money back. I was finally scheduled again for mid-December, and by now the temperatures were in the 40s. The workers showed up this time, and hung some plastic to try to keep the heat in the house while I took the kids to the warmest room and hung curtains to keep the cold in the living room. It still got very cold with the open wall. Despite the scheduling problems, I would consider using them again because the work they performed was very good and the workers were very careful and very professional. When they were done, from the outside of the house the new windows looked like they had always been there, right down to matching the exact shade of aluminum siding for the new section of wall. I did have to hire a separate painter to paint the interior wall, but Three Sons was upfront about that from the beginning. Later, in the summer, I had some problems with one of the windows not closing all the way. I had to call Three Sons several times before I got a field service call scheduled with the manufacturer (Harvey). The owner apologized, and said he'd been having problems running the office since he'd been ill.
Description of Work: Four very old side-by-side non-opening windows were removed, the exterior wall was built up to meet existing code for height from the floor, four new casement windows were installed to make a picture window, and siding was done on the outside to match the rest of the house.
