I was very Impressed with Three Sons all around. Paul showed up on time to give me an estimate which was straight forward and no guessing involved. Price was very competitive. Once the windows where ordered they showed up on time in the moring and had all the windows installed by 3:30 the same day. The were very clean and responsive to any questions I had. I would recomend them to anyone.

Paul arrived on time for initial consult/estimate (I was late, he was very accommodating). Estimate was provided quickly, and also price was reasonable (24 vinyl replacement windows in 2-family house). His crew installed the windows in 1 day (5 people to do the job). Rob and Peter were the crew leaders, and listened to my concerns and performed work as requested. They went out of their way to help in 1 apartment, which required extensive furniture/plants to do the work. Communications with the ofice (Peggy and Sue) were quickly and courteously responded to. Overall job from estimate to completion was 3 weeks.

We asked Three Sons to come and give an estimate on some roofing work, a roof deck, roof, and siding that needed repair. They were very prompt in setting up an appointment for someone to come out and look at the property, and walked through the work with me. However, after the visit we never heard from them again. We called, but they didn't seem interested in getting back to us, and didn't give a reason. We ended up contacting other providers that were more responsive. edit: They mention below that I wasn't looking for a roof repair, but in fact, we did end up getting the roof replaced. In any case, the lack of a response after the person came out was unprofessional; a simple "Sorry, this job is too small for us" at the time of estimate would have cleared things right up.

We are not a handyman service. We told this customer that it was not in our scope of work. This particular customer was not looking for a roof replacement but just a roof repair. We try to refer any repair only leads to a reputable handy man service in our area but this customer did not tell us that when at the time of appointment scheduling.

The job was difficult because the building is brick and the original windows had been installed in such a way that it was nearly impossible to remove them without damaging the walls, and I was nervous about that. After Paul came out to look at the job and provide an estimate, I held off scheduling the work because I was waiting to see the work of another company on a similar job nearby (that had also provided an estimate on my job). Having seen that work, I knew I wanted to go with Three Sons. I also knew what I wanted to avoid -- damage to the walls when the old windows were removed -- and how I wanted the walls repaired if damage did occur. Paul came out a second time so we could discuss that. He sent me specs so that I could get approval of those from the condo management company. The job was managed by Robert. He and the other workers were on time, professional and pleasant. They cleaned up the mess in the house and in the yard, repaired the existing moisture damage on the walls near the window frames, and left them in paint-ready condition. It turned out better than I expected. Robert also installed a nice wooden threshold in front of the slider door. I'm very happy with the windows and door and the workmanship. I highly recommend Three Sons.
Description of Work: Three Sons replaced three old aluminum windows with arches and a slider door with Harvey vinyl windows and door. I got estimates from eight different installers/companies and Three Sons had the best price. But I chose them because I felt confident that Paul, the owner, would make sure the job was done right. And he did.

I recently purchased a bank owned home that had been neglected for quite a few years. A friend recommended Three Sons Window and Door and I couldn't be happier. From the initial consultation to the final punch list, Three Sons has made my house new again. The guys that worked on my home ( I had a roofing crew, remodel crew, window crew and a paint crew) were all hard working, considerate, and polite. It was a pleasure to have them in my home. Everyday was cleaned up and ready for the next day. I was in constant communication with the project supervisor and the crews. They helped me make great decisions in a timely fashion. I will definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone looking to have work done on their homes.
Description of Work: Three Sons recently completed a major remodel in my new MA home. They replaced the roof, made changes in the floor plan by opening up walls. They remodeled 2 bathrooms and completely remodeled/ updated my kitchen. They even changed my basement laundry room to be in living level of the house. They also replaced the windows and doors and painted all my walls and trim.

Paul and his crew are the most professional team of contractors I've ever had the pleasure to work with. They were very patient with us as we changed our minds a couple of times related to the color and detail finishes on windows and doors as well as finishing touches on the four large gable areas of the house. Three Sons crew members treated our home and property as if it were the own even going so far as to suggest ideas to improve the overall look and finished look of the completed job. After all work was completed the guys cleaned up the entire job site including racking and sweeping to ensure no nail or such was left behind. Outstanding work and truly professional. The job was started on time and was finished earlier than expected. The best of quality in workmanship and materials and highly professional employees, the best around.

Three Sons Window and Door came by to give me an estimate on roofing and siding, after calling and leaving a message they returned my call within 2 days. We were able to schedule a date for them to come by and see the house. They arrived on time however they didn't really ask any questions about what we wanted, he took one walk around the house and then left. We had specific questions about products, timeline, etc but they seemed more concerned with just taking a look around, not that they shouldn't but a little more professionalism and listening to the customer would go a long way. We received a written estimate a few days later with a competitive price compared to the others, and also received a couple follow up emails. We ultimately chose to go with another company because of their professionalism, friendliness and responsiveness.

I first called Three Sons after having issues getting estimates from other companies. Paul came out early in the morning to estimate two large windows. He gave me a fair price for the two windows and labor. Unfortunately, since the windows were not a standard size, and since I ordered them right around Thanksgiving, the windows took longer than anticipated to come back from the manufacturer. I had to call Three Sons several times to get updates on the windows and I would have appreciated a more proactive approach from them. After the windows were manufactured, we setup an appointment for a week later and they came and installed the windows. The two guys were very professional, cleaned up after their work, and finished the job within about 4 hours.

It's been a little over a year since Three Sons did this work. I've put off writing this review because initially I had mixed feelings about how I would rate the work. However, now that I've lived with the result some for a while and have had a few follow-up interactions with them, I wanted to share my thoughts. With some exceptions noted below, I was generally happy with the quality of the work so I'll start with the positives. We had Joe's siding crew and I thought they did a great job overall. Joe and his crew were meticulous about the details and took the time to do things right. Anyone can throw up siding, but the quality of their work really stands out when you inspect the window and door trim, custom aluminum work on rake boards, soffit and gutter treatments, etc. Plus, under the surface they installed both Tyvek house wrap and rigid foam board. Most other companies we spoke to did just one or the other, but I like the peace-of-mind of having two layers of protection. The finished product really looks great. The crew was professional, accommodating of my special requests, and did a good job cleaning up. I was also happy with the roofing crew. They did good work, and really hustled to finish the job in one day. A few minor issues we had with the roof were addressed quickly. One of their ladders dented a gutter and they had it replaced with a new seamless gutter, and there was a minor leak at the plumbing vent pipe that they sealed up right away. They did a good job cleaning up overall. For a few months after I kept finding nails in the lawn and driveway, but I know they spend a lot of time going back and forth with the magnet and you can't get them all. With that said, the job wasn't perfect and there were a few specific items that I was unhappy with. Items (1) and (2) in particular were what prompted me to finally write this review. 1) We paid to have fascias/gutters flashed properly to prevent moisture from rotting the fascia boards. They did this for all sides of the house, except the front. Unfortunately, with the gutters in place you can't really tell from the ground, so I didn't discover this until a few weeks later when I was cleaning gutters. It took 5 or 6 emails, more than I feel was appropriate, but I finally got Three Sons to come out the following summer to complete this work. However, when I cleaned the gutters a few months later, I discovered that there was still one section that they did not complete. It's a small section, but I paid for it so I feel it should be done. If the fascia boards rot, it's just going to cost me more money down the road. I've contacted Three Sons several times about this but they have not been responsive, so I've decided to give up. 2) Our house (built in '78) did not have soffit vents originally. The vinyl siding job included installation of vented vinyl panels over the existing soffits. Since the existing soffits were not vented, they were supposed to cut vent openings prior to installing the vinyl panels. However, you can't really inspect this after the panels are installed. I recently had some attic insulation work done and the installers were able to check for soffit vents from the inside. Most of the soffits had inadequate venting (single vent hole every 4-5 rafter bays), and at least one section of soffit had no venting at all. I don't know yet if this is a problem, but I wish it had been done properly. If I find that I'm getting ice dams I might have to pay to have this corrected in the future. 3) We had two new skylights installed when they replaced the roof. The skylights look great, but I don't think they paid enough attention to the structural requirements. I'm not a structural engineer, but the skylight header was simply toe-nailed to the adjacent rafters, and I can't imagine that technique is appropriate for a load-bearing header. I ended up installing double joist hangars to strengthen the joints, which the building inspector told me was the way it's usually done. I wish Three Sone had done it this way from the beginning. It would have cost $10 in materials and taken no additional time. 4) Through the entire process, even prior to the work, responsiveness from the office had been terrible. They were quick to respond to my initial inquiry, and when Paul came out to meet us in person he was very patient and informative. However, we had a number of follow up questions after the initial visit (can we do the window trim this way instead?... can we use a thicker foam board? how much would skylights cost?), and in every case it was painfully difficult to get a response from the office. I'd have to email or call 4 or 5 times in some case. At one point it got so bad that I considered asking for my deposit back, but winter was approaching and I didn't have time to start with a new company. I actually didn't know the price of some of the "options" we selected until after the work was done, so there were a few surprises when we got the invoice that final day. Needles to say, I can't say I'm surprised that they're not responding to me now. It's a shame, because their installers do quality work. Customer service should be easy for them. I'm not sure why they find it so difficult.
Description of Work: Installed new vinyl siding on most of house (including removal of existing clapboards), replaced roof shingles on 1/2 of roof, installed two new skylights (exterior work only, no interior carpentry or finish work).

There were a few problems with this transaction. The main issue was the work itself, while apparently competent, seems rushed. Some of the original frames were rotted and were replaced, but the fit was poor, and I could see substantial daylight through some of the buck and frame pieces. Had the frames been caulked around the edges, I would not have noticed this, but the work was called completed with no caulking. This seems like a very basic part of the process, such that I wonder how it could be overlooked. Also, some the cuts of the wood (pressure treated lumber) were knotty and generally the edges were not lining up well. I called and had Paul look at it, to his credit he met with me and he said it would be taken care of. The contractor returned and caulked the inside decently, but didn't touch the outside. So at this point I can't help but feel ripped off, though it is my fault for not thoroughly checking out the work before paying the balance. The only thing I can do now is give them a bad review here and not recommend their business. Also, the communication was not good, where the contractor showed up to do the work unannounced a few weeks after I signed off on the terms. The tax incentive for the energy efficient windows was played up, such that I feel like the windows were overpriced, but I was not told how it works (despite asking,) and I ended up throwing away the labels that are needed for the tax refund. For the price I paid I feel like I should have gotten good work with one visit and no hassle. I was clear with them that I don't think I got what I paid for, even after complaining, but they are apparently not responding to me anymore. (Let's see if they respond to this.)

Description of Work: I called Three Sons for an estimate for remodeling work on a home that I was buying with a 203K mortgage. We had an excellent experience and recommend 3 Sons without reservation. We would definitely use them for any future work. They started the project when they said they would, they had large crews that made the work move along quickly and smoothly and they did an outstanding job of cleaning up the yard at the end. I can?t say enough about the quality and workmanship the three brothers (sons) and their crew brought to the project. There were a number of changes along the way ? as there always are ? and these were taken in stride and at a fair cost. In addition, when they damaged the membrane roof which was not part of the project, they replaced it for free which was above and beyond in my view. After the project was finished, they promptly came back to fix a couple of small things that were over looked. For example, In the fall the Gas Company showed up and wanted to rip off part of the siding to put in a new pipe. I called Robert and he came out within an hour and properly removed the boards so the pipe could be installed without damage. He came back a week later and reinstalled it like new. Great follow up service and at no cost.
Description of Work: They completely reskinned the outside of our house: Siding, roof, gutters and a small addition to the garage. Our objective was to make the house as maintaince free as possible. The house had a lot of detail and they were able to reproduce it in high quality “plastic” Certinteed Products. This included dental molding, reproducing an elaborate front door frame and other detail around the house. It looks incredible. People walking by stopped in and were amazed at how good it looked and that it was not wood.

I had a very small job of roof repair. I tried to arrange a visit, and on two occasions thought I had an agreement on a date. however, they did not show up the first time, and i don't know if they showed up the second time because they will not return my calls (three), including an offer to pay them if they indeed had done the repair. (i have not gone up to the roof on my own to inspect.) they may be quite good if they decide the job is a good one for them, but on this small job, it is apparent they did not care. it is unfortunate because they came highly recommended by a contractor who I trust.

Upon receiving the Angie's List report, I reviewed our scheduled appointments and indeed found that the Member's appointment had been missed. I immediately called the Member, apologized for missing the appointment and wasting his time as he waited for us. I asked if his roofing needs had been taken care of in the week since the missed appointment - they had not - and then asked if he would give us a second chance to make the appointment. Although his roofing needs had not been satisfied, he was agitated about the missed appointment and declined our offer to re-schedule. I told him we would discuss what had happened in-house and take measures to improve our communication to ensure this didn't happen again. Peggy Arend - Three Sons Remodeling, Inc.

Paul seemed very nice when we spoke with him, and promised an estimate in 3 business days. Apparently they had some trouble with their phone lines and internet access which delayed the estimate; Peggy's response to my initial review tells what happened on their end. Once they were aware of the problem they were very quick to respond and provide the estimate. Certainly it would have been preferable if this had happened right away; however, given the initial mixup, they followed up promptly and satisfactorily. I will be considering them to complete the job.

Upon receipt of this report, I checked our files for members correspondence and located our proposal which had indeed been faxed to her. Paul had visited her on July 31, 2010 and a proposal was faxed to her August 6, 2010. I spoke with member this morning, 10/4/2010 and we discussed her report; the several phone calls she had placed to our office - all during the time we were relocating our office (unfortunately, our phones were down for 4 days and we were without e-mail for almost 2 weeks - thanks to Verizon). She also indicated that the fax that I had sent it to was "correct at the time, but is no longer valid" and asked that I send the proposal to her this morning via e-mail. Prior to writing this response, the proposal was e-mailed to her. Regards, Peggy Arend - Three Sons Remodeling

I am so happy I used Three Sons Remodeling! Not only was Three Sons the least expensive (of three estimates), but they were responsive and professional. Before I signed a contract, Paul came out several times to walk me through the process and answer all my questions. This was the biggest/most expensive home improvement job I've done--Paul's knowledge and experience reassured me that this was the right company for the job. Despite the bitter cold, ice, and snow, Joe and his crew worked diligently for several weeks. They were courteous and cleaned-up daily. I loved coming home each day and seeing the progress. My house looks brand new!
Description of Work: Installed CertainTeed "Perfection" vinyl siding over wood shingled two-family house. Installed five new windows (three of which were new construction).
The job went extremely well. During the past 4-5 years we have hired Three Sons Remodeling to remodel several of our 2 and 4 family homes, all in Waltham. My dad and I are perfectionists and we have enjoyed working with the entire crew. If there is a problem they take care of it right away. What impressed us about Three Sons Remodeling was how neat they are on the job. When I drive by a job now that they are working on, I don't even need to see the trucks, I know it's them by how the work on the house is being done. We plan on having Three Sons remodel another 2 family home in Waltham sometime in October 2010. In total this will be the 7th 2/4 family they have remodeled for us. We love working with them and most important Paul always returns calls quickly. If anyone needs any further information, feel free to contact me.
Description of Work: We have a 2 family home that was stripped and resided. Front & back porches decking & railings were replaced. New gutters installed. At the same time we have a 2 family next door and we had Three Sons install replacement windows on the first floor apartment.
