S & W Tile

I had Wes come over to fix some previous grouting was was beginning to be an issue on the tub. Wes was prompt, immaculate, professional and regrouted the areas in need. S&W is a great company and I am just so happy I found them on Angie's List. Wes and Sylvester work as a great team with a true respect for each other and their customers - will have them back again without question.

It was a pleasure to work with him from the initial phone call through the completion of his service. He returned my call promptly, showed up on time, was clean and respectful and did a beautiful job. He worked efficiently and quietly and left the room looking better than it did when he arrived. I recommend S and W Tile with absolute confidence. I would hire him again without question.

He did come in and do a good job on the tile, but he was late and I had to mail in a 200.00 deposit before he came to do any of the work. I think that the price was to high.

From start to finish, Wes provided great service and excellent craftsmanship -- and he is a nice guy. He was responsive; he called me right back and came out at a convenient time to provide a proposal. He charged for the initial visit, but he applied that amount to the overall job. He made suggestions, but did not pressure me and was not condescending, or vague, etc. The price seemed fair for the work. I highly recommend Wes and would use S&W Tile again.

Wes did a great job. He was easy to reach and was able to set up an appointment to take a look at the grout very quickly. He actually came on a saturday morning at 8:30am upon my request and was on time. He was able to tell me why this happened and what my options were to repair this. I did get an estimate from another contractor and Wes' pirce was competitive. He was able to schedule the actual work around my schedule. The work itself was very good. He was also very clean. I have a newborn at home and he was very sensitive to noise and smell of any chemicals used (acetone used to clean the surface before he started the grout). He found more missing grout under the entryway into the shower and regrouted this for free. We opted to not recaulk the wall corners in the shower even though Wes recommended this. Wes actually showed me how to do this myself (as there was no rush to recaulk the wall corners now) and gave me some caulking I could use. The next day after the job was complete, I had a question about the drying time for the grout. Wes was again very easy to reach and answered my questions completely. I will certainly use him again for any tile related work.

Wes arrived at scheduled time and before working, he walked me through all the steps he was going to take. He gave me three options to choose from to resolve my problem, indicated the cost as well as the pros and cons of each option. He immediately began work and during the process would have me see what he had done. Wes is careful, clean and thorough. A good professional worth recommending!

Wes came over to do an estimate and found that our tile was leaking in several places but it was hard to determine where exactly. He came up with a fix that he has done 4 time before with good success that did not require us to completely renovate the bathroom and thus saved us a ton of money by being very honest with us and trustworthy. Wes is the consummate professional and seems to really enjoy serving his customers to the best of his ability. We enjoyed working with Wes on this project and will be sure to recommend him to others and use his services if other problems come up.

Wes was fantastic. He came out to do an estimate on pretty short notice (I happened to take the afternoon off, and he made himself available). He came right when he said he would, and called to give a 15 minute heads up to be sure it was still good timing. Right from the start, you can see the pride - in his work, and in how he wants to behave and be seen professionally. It wasn't an act. Wes is courteous, professional, and does really good work. He's also very fair. I asked about having him do some waterproofing on the grout, and he said it wasn't worth paying him to do it as it's a quick job that I could do easily rather than paying for his time. A lesser man would have taken the pay check and not cared about someone overpaying. The job he did wasn't the kind of thing you can go over and above on, but it is the kind of thing you can do sloppily. He was very neat, cleaned up after himself (vacuumed, etc), and also communicated throughout the job with my wife about things he was finding and how it went, plus he sent me photos from his phone as soon as it was done with an overview of how things went. We have some health issues, so we have to ask contractors to take off their shoes and some other things to be mindful of. Usually, it's a battle of reminding them, or doing extensive cleaning after they leave. I mentioned it to Wes when he came in for the estimate, and he was on it after that - no reminders at all. He even acknowledged that he was doing it to be sure we didn't worry. I'm sure others would be cheaper, but I didn't care to have to pay to have this redone, or live with sloppy work or a contractor we weren't comfortable with. Wes was a good value in that regard. We'd absolutely use him again without hesitation. You should, too.

From the time that Wes came in for the estimate, through to completion of the project, it never veered from the timeline that Wes gave us. At the estimate stage, Wes was extremely detailed in presenting us with options and clearly explaining how the project would progress. S&W also gave us the best price for our tiling project. When the work commenced, Wes was there the whole time. They worked quickly, and efficiently. Everything that they said they would do, they followed through with. The best part about this company is that Wes was always available for us to call. He answered every time my wife called with questions. They were clean as well. Overall, I would highly recommend S&W for any tiling project.

Everything about Wes was punctual and as promised. He kept to his start date, stayed in touch by email about things that needed to be done (go match the grout color, be sure to empty the shower before he arrived, etc. etc.) and worked every day until the job was finished. At one point mid-job we had a choice to make a more expensive repair/redesign, and he explained it carefully, as well as the cost - very complete. He finished on time and on budget. I was extremely comfortable having him and his partner work in the house when I was not around - he paid attention to details like locking up upon departure, leaving everything tidy each night before he came back the next day, etc.

I contacted Wes because he has done work for me in the past and has always been very professional and the work impeccable. I had noticed that a couple of the tiles around the toilet had cracked. I didn't want any further problems with it so I called Wes to come take a look. He came the next day to take a look and give me an estimate. He said it would cost between $400 and $600 depending on how difficult it would be when he started since when removing tiles, more tiles can crack. He also explained that since it was a "repair" and not a "replacement" there was no guarantee of it looking exactly the same as the rest of the floor but he would do his best. At first I thought the price was high since I didn't need to purchase new tile, just the grout, so I contacted another tile person that I knew through a contractor. That person came out 3 days later to give me a quote. That quote was much higher. So I decided to go with Wes. About a week after I first contacted him, he came to my house a little earlier than he said and got right to work. He did his best to break up and remove the tile but continuously ran into problems - mainly caused from poor installation of the sub floor. Finally, after a couple of days, he was able to finish the job and I couldn't tell where the problem was to begin with. And it only cost me $450. Once again, Wes did an outstanding job and I highly recommend him to anyone in need of tile work

I had a problem with water leaking into my basement from my upstairs tub for years. I had another tile person "fix" the problem just before moving in. I had a plumber come, charge me a bundle, change some pipes, and "fix" the problem. Neither of these fixes worked because they didn't address the cause of the problem. Wes, the "W" of S & W, came to my house to look at the bathroom the same day I first called him. He took his time - spending at least an hour with me at no charge, explained everything that he could do, what my options were, what the possible problems could be and what he would do, as well as the potential additional cost, if these problems happened. He gave me a detailed, written estimate before he left. He answered his phone every time I called and never made me feel like I was interrupting something more important, in fact, he encouraged me to call him whenever I felt I needed to. I didn't have to wait hours, days or until never, before hearing back. On the day we scheduled for the work, he, Sylvester (the "S" of S & W) and one other worker arrived exactly on time (just after 7 am), carefully covered floors and carpeting between the bathroom and the front door (which they used to go in and out with debris and later to bring in materials), and worked nonstop until the job was finished. Wes kept me informed as work progressed as to what they had done, what problems had arisen and what would or could be done about them, and we would make a decision together about how to proceed based on his knowledge and my pocketbook. They also found the reason why the previous "fixes" hadn't worked - poor framing that was never corrected, which they fixed before installing new materials. My entire bath surround was demolished down to the studs, but they kept the bathroom door closed and the bathroom window open so virtually no dust and debris made its way out of the bathroom. They cleaned up after each step of the demolition and reconstruction, and vacuumed, dusted, and wiped everything at the end. They did beautiful work. They were professional, but friendly and good-humored. These men actually had fun working together, and clearly had mutual respect among themselves. This made for a partnership of labor that was good for them and for me. While my job was small in the scheme of things, I would highly recommend S & W Tile to anyone who needs any tile work done.

I am really pleased that Wes was the last person that came to quote on the job because it was an interesting experience indeed, which I will summarize in detail and complete truth. We hold nothing against him as he didn't do the job, so there is nothing for us to be upset about in any way. I enjoy AngiesList, use it religiously, and value the input I give, and others as well. First, Wes's communication and promptness in responding is superlative. He was very upfront that he charges $75 to come and look at a job...the first I've seen on AngiesList to charge for a quote. For the $75 he promises to spend time, and go over the job in great detail, followed by a quote. Wes arrived early, as a matter fact, and I took him upstairs to see the job. As these reports are completely subjective, I can only state all of the red flags that I saw along the way, particularly given the 2 prior quotes I had received (he asked me if he was the first to quote, but I must admit shamefully that I wasn't forthcoming with the truth in that regard). The chap who did the blueboard put the durarock down for me, and Wes commenced to tell me how much of a problem that was going to be for him, and that, right off the bat, he wouldn't warranty his work. He looked in the shower area, and made note of some issues (which the others had, by the way), and told me that this was untenable, and probably needed to be ripped out, and completely redone (the others had given alternative solutions as well). He asked me, "was your contractor licensed?" In fact, his whole demeanor throughout was somewhat condescending towards, not only the people who had done a superlative job on our house, but also other tile installers (which is a big red flag for me). We then looked at the other bathroom, and he continued to outline problem, after problem, after problem, ranging from uneven floors, the improper installations, etc. When his colleague would come up with a positive solution, he would more or less contradict the idea. It became amusing after awhile, actually. Similar to a dog and pony show that wasn't working in harmony. Anyhow, he spent quite a long time, but it was depressing from purely a contractor giving a quote kind of way. Anyhow, when all was said and done, he was unable to give me a definite quote as promised. He mentioned his rate alone is $800/day (the company that did the job charged $630/day for the entire 3 man team) He NEVER provided anything in writing as he promised on the phone for the $75, but said, best case scenario $8500, worst case $13000. He then mentioned he is the BEST and his work is impeccable. He also mentioned I might be able to find someone who could do it for $2000 who was desperate for work. I gave him $75 cash, and off he went, never to be heard from again. For all the time he spent, and the $75, he ended up by telling me not to hire him. How does the story end? Well, we hired another person - highly rated contractor on AngiesList who just finished the job BEAUTIFULLY job for...........$6450 including all materials. That includes the two bathrooms - AND A LARGE ENTRANCE AND FRONT HALLWAY!!!!! as well. That was for 14 days of full work with 2 or 3 guys. Moral of the story...Wes likely does a good job, too, but always shop around and call Wes last to see how his price is comparatively.

We felt that we did not really get value for our money. We spent $400 for under 2 hours of work and minimal materials. It did not involve real expertise and did not make much of a difference in the appearance of our shower. Despite the minimal amout of work involved relative to price, anything that may result in additional 5 minutes of work to complete the job was presented as a possible "upcharge." UPDATE - I am glad I did not listen to Wes! My 6-year old shower looks like new again thanks to a $7 tub of premixed grout from Home Depot and 1 1/2 hours of work. You are right, Wes - we should have never hired you! Glad we did not take your advice that nothing could be done and that we should never buy premixed grout!!! BTW, you need to use more than nasty and untrue responses to criticism to build a business - good work and value still matters.

Wes and his crew were great-- Wes was helpful in the planning-- from determining what needed to be done and possible ways of saving on cost to choosing tile for the best effect. We had the floor of the master bath retiled (to cover over the tennis court green) and the brick living room fireplace refaced with tile. The fireplace was more of a big deal as the hearth had to be demolished and leveled over so that the onyx tile would be flush with the floor.The work has just been completed and looks lovely.mast

Wes and Sylvester are professional, knowledgeable, and skilled. They came when they said they would, did a great job, and were easy to work with. I highly recommend them and will hire them again in the future if I have tile work that needs to be done.

S&W Tile is a great company - we were extremely satisfied with the entire experience. Wes came to the house 2 days after we called him, and spent a great deal of time with us, providing a detailed estimate. We wanted to install a tile backsplash, and also asked him for help with a problem with some existing seams on our granite backsplash which had separated. Wes explained that his partner Sylvester could help with the seams, and he included that in our estimate. He also gave us great advice on how to save some cost, which was by purchasing our own tile and grout. Wes is very personable and knowledgeable, and gave us his full attention. The backsplash was installed two weeks later, and again it was an excellent experience. Wes and Sylvester were prompt, meticulous, attentive, and they cleaned up everything when they were finished. The final product is beautiful, and the repair of the seams was just outstanding. They performed the work at a very fair price, and we highly recommend S&W tile - another great find for us on Angie's list.

S & W Tile does outstanding work - from start to finish. From my initial contact with Wes, right through completion of my backsplash today, I was so impressed. Wes gives you his undivided attention. After he came to see the kitchen, Wes met me at the store taking time to explain all my choices. He even took tiles and designed a backsplash border on the floor for my visual and explained how I can save 50% by changing the supplier store. I am so happy I found S & W on Angie's list The personal attention and integrity of both Wes and Sylvester is certainly noteworthy. They were punctual, professional, workeddiligently and were immaculate - everthing was completely cleaned when finished. It is wonderful to know that there is still a company who truly cares about their clients and have a true passion on doing a job correctly at a VERY fair price. I highly recommend S & W - you will be making the right choice. I will definitely use them again ~ very happy with the backsplash~!

The final job looks GREAT. An especially wonderful job with tricky inside and outside corners on the v-cap tile coupled with an antique house where nothing is level or square. Professional job all around - will use S & W Tile again.

Great experience with Wes! He is extremely knowledgeable, professional, very personable and I am happy with the end result. I spoke to Wes last week and scheduled for 12/28. He showed up on time, answered all of my questions and explained how he would proceed and gave me great feedback on upkeep and maintenance of the marble in my bathrooms. I was so impressed with the overall experience that I'll be having Wes put in the backsplash in my kitchen in the next few weeks. 2 Thumbs up and I highly recommend him to others! I'm glad I found S&W Tile on Angie's list.

I called "S&W Tile" after reading their excellent reviews on Angie's list. Wes answered the phone himself and came to my house the following day to look at what was needed to be done. We had a problem with water leaking into the kitchen from the bathroom on the second floor. Wes returned the following day with a plumber to rule out plumbing issues. The plumber felt the plumbing was in good shape and was not the cause of our problem. BTW, the plumber spent over an hour at our house and did not charge for his services. Wes felt the the tile work had been done installed incorrectly. We had these bathrooms tiled a little over a year ago. I was unable to reach the man who did the original work. Wes felt that they used unsanded grout where sanded grout should have been used. You could see cracking in the grout lines. So he scaped out the old grout and replaced it with sanded grout. He also installed new tile in areas that were previously unfinished in these bathrooms. Wes was very punctual in showing up on time and finished the work in the time frame that he had quoted. He was very professional, organized and thorough. He vacuumed and cleaned up the work area before he left. I would definitely used Wes again and would also recommend him. Although Wes could not quarantee that this has totally fixed our problem, we felt he had a very thorough approach and solution. Right now things seem to working without problems. Thanks, Wes!!!

Wes performed the replacement of several tiles, paying attention to the details of great workmanship, and color matching the grout, for each bathroom. He also caulked several areas in both bathrooms. During the job, he kept me informed of all that he had found, and notified me immediately when a broken tile was identified as the probable cause of our water leak problems. The position of the broken tile could have created additional problems, since it was right under the installed glass wall for the shower stall, but Wes suggested a great (aesthetic, functional and economical) solution. We are very grateful that, thanks to Wes, we no longer have a leak in the shower stall! Wes also made great suggestions, and was happy to offer advice for other potential tile projects. While working, Wes was very thoughtful and considerate of our house (e.g. offering to take his boots off), and he left all very clean. He arrived on time, performed the work in a very professional manner, and I would recommend his company highly and unequivocally. I will definitely call S and W Tile for our next tile project.

Wes incorportated some handmade accent tiles in the kitchen backsplash. His design was very creative and well thought-out. He had to cut some of the tiles to make everything look right and it is beautiful. Wes also suggested the pattern for the foyer flooring. Both projects turned out so well. He is very polite, cleans up after himself, and is very easy to work with. I would definitely recommend him to others.
