S & W Tile

Can I give a grade higher than A? S & W exceeded our expectations in every way. We had been living for the past 20 years with a tile floor that we hated. It was "in-the-mud", and we'd been told that only jack-hammers could get it out. Wes came over and explained an alternative - and much safer and cheaper - overlay approach using modern materials. I had a very clear idea of the saltillo-style floor I wanted. Being a bit geeky, I mocked it up roughly in Photoshop. Wes and Steve are perfectionists who also listen to their customers. Steve used my mockup, suggested ways the design could be improved for best visual effect, then proceeded to do a perfect installation of a somewhat complex layout. He was kind enough to create the threshold pattern and place the inserts exactly as I requested. All the work was done cleanly, promptly and conscientiously. This was a very pleasant experience for us that turned out even better than we'd hoped. And we were very pleased with the installation cost, which was more than fair for the size and the superior quality of the job. Thank you, Wes and Steve! I called S&W tile because Wes tiled my bathroom floor last year. I knew I would be pleased with the the work. Wes was prompt to respond to my request for a quote and set a date for the work. He and Steve came at the agreed time. I had an unexpected family commitment the next day and Wes agreed to come very early to finish up the grouting. I love my new floor and appreciate the knowledge and service Wes provided. I recommend S&W tile for anyone looking for perfection.

We were very happy with all details of our kitchen backsplash installation. Wes responded quickly to our initial contact. There was a charge for the initial site visit, but Wes brought a lot of knowledge and true consulting to our project, and we felt the charge was worthwhile. The installation itself reflected a great deal of upfront planning on the part of Wes and his colleague Steve. They planned the layout carefully, asking for our input. The workmanship was excellent, and the cleanup thorough. We would definitely recommend them; they are true professionals.

I enjoyed working with Wes right from the start. He was very professional, returned calls quickly -- or, most of the time, answered the phone when I called. He gave me some ideas from our first phone call, then soon was at the house to give an estimate. I am most impressed with his flexibility. We changed the project radically from time to time and he rolled with the process. He had initially given us an estimate for laying large floor tiles down, but at the last minute we changed to small mosaic porcelain tiles. He let me know what the additional price would be for installing these -- while I was at the tile store, deciding whether to buy them. The people at the tile store (a great store, which he recommended) were amazed at the deal he gave me, since this kind of tile normally is quite expensive to install. Steve laid the tiles and did an excellent job -- the mosaic turned out beautifully, though it was quite challenging. The work was done quickly and neatly. From start to finish, this was a great experience. Wes even took care of some other tiling needs we hadn't mentioned while he was on site. I wish we had more rooms to tile.

This project worked so well that we cannot recommend Wes highly enough. He was on time, meticulous in his workmanship, gave clear instructions on what to purchase and where to purchase replacement tiles, grout, caulking, etc. He was on time (a little ahead actually) and he cleaned up afterwards. We are very, very, very happy with the job he did and intend to get him back to help with another job.

I called 8 places on Angie's list to get bids on repairing leak in upstairs bathroom shower stall. I already had plumber confirm that it was not the pipes. Of the several dealers who got back to me they all said that re-grouting and caulking would probably not do the trick and that, alone was $800. The other option was to tear out the floor and put in a new pan and that was about $8,000 dollars. Wes was the only one who proposed completely covering the existing tile with sealer and then re-tiling over that tile. This cost was $2500. Wes said he'd do the recaulking and regrouting but told me that was unlikely to fix the leak. He said he'd also do the more expensive "tear out the whole floor" plan but that was very expensive. I opted for the intermediate plan. I went to Lowe's and bought the tile, grout and caulking material for $450. Wes and associate tiler both worked a good part of the day completing the job. They did beautiful work and explained everything before hand including price. While they were here my wife asked Wes if he'd recaulk the other bathroom that was not leaking but the same age and he did at no charge. I found them very professional and fair. I'll ask them back if I need any work in the future.

A+ experience with Wes, Steve and S&W tile. Wes was immediately responsive and able to accommodate installing our kitchen backsplash in a very short time- as another reviewer mentioned he was able to give a quote after viewing pictures of the area. Steve was prompt, professional and offered very clear explanations and options for choices in design details. The finished backsplash exceeded my expectations. Steve worked in an efficient and considerate manner with floor and counter tarps protecting the rest of the kitchen-which was greatly appreciated. Wes arrived at the completion of the work to ensure satisfaction. I would highly recommend S&W tile!

In a word: terrible. Wes estimated the cost of his work at $1000. When he arrived, I was not at home. He told my wife that it would take 2-4 hours and she questioned why he was charging $1000 for 2-4 hours work (I had been led to believe that it was an all-day event, which was quite expensive, but not completely excessive). Wes's response was to become outraged that she would question his pricing and he became verbally abusive (my wife is 4'10" and has silver hair - though unfortunately for him she also has a Master's in Business Management). Our daughter (who owns her own business) was here at the time and confirmed that Wes behaved completely inappropriately and intimidatingly - to the point that she called her brother (an executive at a local utility) in case Wes's behavior became even more out of line. This man should be banned from Angie's List.

It went very well. He returned my call almost immediately, and was very helpful in getting me to understand the important variables concerning the project, and in laying out different options along with their pros and cons. He even told me how to do some of the job myself which saved money and meant that he would be losing business. He explained specifically what to buy, where to find it, and how to do the work myself. This was before we even agreed that he's being doing any work on our house. We ended up hiring him and the job was done quickly, very neatly, and with professionalism. His demeanor is personal yet professional. Great hire.

I called S & W Tile on a Saturday afternoon to discuss retiling my bathroom. Wes O'Connor returned my call immediately even though he was at the funeral of a family member. He was very professional and provided me with information to help me make decisions about the work I was considering. He was knowledgable and upfront about prices. Although it may make sense for me to do some patch up work in the short term, which Wes' company would not be doing, he offered to answer any questions I have in the future. I'm confident that when I'm ready to undertake a full renovation, Wes will do a great job.

We have been putting off doing the two bathroom renovations because you know it's going to cost a lot and it's hard to find good craftsman to the work. I think we really got lucky when we contacted Wes. His work ethic and approach to his business was exactly what we where looking for. He spends as much time as you need when you talk with him. He always returned my calls. We had a little schedule change so that the contractors could get their things prepared and Wes was able to make that work. The quality of work that Wes and Steve did tiling our new showers and bath floors is superb. It feels like we are at a high end hotel. Our next big project is the kitchen and will certainly be contacting Wes again.

Wes provided one of the best service experiences I've ever had. From our initial contact, he was extremely responsive. He was able to schedule a time to come out and assess the work very quickly. He found a way to work around our schedule (something that is admittedly difficult to do as our young twins have rather strict sleeping schedules) and schedule a date when all of the work could be completed without impacting the rest of the family. On the day of the work, he arrived exactly on time and completed all of the work on schedule while providing clear explanations of what he was doing. He was great about answering questions and provided a lesson how to maintain our tile (which we'd had done as part of a recent renovation project). If we ever need tile work done again, I'll be calling Wes.

Wes did an outstanding job. His work completely transformed the atmosphere of our kitchen and he was extraordinarily easy to work with. He quoted a reasonable price for the job and stuck to the original quote even when material choices drove up the cost. We highly recommend Wes and S&W Tile.

Overall an excellent experience with Wes O'Connor, owner of S&W Tile. In first contact he asked I send him pictures of my existing tile work and the area where he would be adding on to it. This seemed to be an excellent and efficient way to scope out a job beforehand. Once he determined the probable cost of the job, he asked for a small deposit in advance of his work. He arrived on schedule, made small repairs to my wall, did an excellent job matching up new tile with old, and repaired the wear and tear that had become evident on the old tile. I am very pleased with the quality of his craftsmanship and attitude, and would definitely call him again for any tile work. My only concern is that he had slightly overbought the amount of grout needed for the job and at the end I was left with a 8# unopened container of $50 material that I cannot use or return. In fairness, he had warned me in advance that this might occur. In addition, he is trying to help me find a way to have this grout returned for credit or refund, though nothing has happened thus far. That being said, Wes was very easy to work with, did an excellent job, and this issue has no bearing at all on my overall satisfaction with his work. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs expert tile work.

We approached S&W because we were having little luck elsewhere getting our leaking shower floor/frame replaced and the reviews were so positive. Wes certainly lived up to all the hype! While we were hoping to only have to replace the frame and shower floor, we ended up going with Wes' recommendation to install an entirely new shower. While it did cost more to do what we did, the more was not significant when you consider we have a entirely new shower that is properly installed. Overall Wes did a fantastic, top quality job in replacing our shower and putting in a new one. He was extremely focused on customer satisfaction and went out of his way to get our job done as quickly as he could despite delays with material shipments that were not his fault at all. I would certainly recommend S&W to anyone else and would use S&W again should the need arise.

Professional service was provided. Above and beyond. Tiled area of kitchen back splash not required in plans as a good will gesture. Also did additional tiling around tub. These gestures will remain in the back of our minds when we consider any future work for our house or recommend contractors to our friends. Work done once and done well. Great guys

I rarely write reviews, but Wes did such a great job, from start to finish, that I felt inclined to do so in this case. I tried, unsuccessfully, to hire someone to tile my kitchen floor for nearly three weeks before coming across S & W Tile on Angie?s List. After reading all of the glowing reviews, I decided to give Wes a call. He answered my call immediately (which no one does these days) and came to my house within two days to take a look at the floor and to provide an estimate. He was professional and courteous, and immediately upon meeting him, I knew that as long as his prices were reasonable, I would hire him on the spot. He was knowledgeable about what needed to be done, and advised me on the type of tile and grout I should purchase for the project. Unlike many ?professionals? who tend to allow the customer to dictate the entire project, and to manage aspects that they really shouldn?t, he took the time to talk with me about the work I wanted to hire him to do, and my vision for the final product, and then provided his thoughts on how this could best be accomplished, given his expertise. It was just the right amount of input. Over the next week or so, while I prepared the floor to have the tile installed, I must have contacted him about ten times. Each time, he called me, or emailed me, within an hour. He responded to each of my questions, without fail, and not once made me feel like I was bothering him, or asking for more than I was entitled. I think it?s clear that Wes really enjoys what he does, and wants his work to be a reflection of him, and his abilities. There?s not too many craftsman left in our day and age. He?s one of them. He takes great pride in his work. I really respect that and for me, he was the perfect person to hire for the job. It almost goes without saying, but the floor looks great. I?ve showed it to a number of my friends, many of which are DIYers, and each one of the said the same thing ? he did a fantastic job. I?m a perfectionist myself, and I expect a lot. Lucky for me, Wes is also a perfectionist. I didn?t have ANY problems with the work he did. I didn?t have to request that he change anything, fix anything, or give me a discount for failing to meet his end of the agreement. He was in and out, and the job was done. It was about as close to perfect as someone can get. Given the quality of the final product, I feel that it was worth EVERY PENNY of what I spent. I would not hesitate to hire him again for any tile project that I have.

S&W Tile did a fabulous job with the tile in our kitchen and bathroom - I could not recommend them more highly! From the start, Wes was extremely responsive to all of our questions and concerns. After we picked out the tile that we wanted, he met with us to measure the rooms and offered suggestions on what would work best in each location. Wes explained that we could save some costs by removing the old tile ourselves and walked us through the process of doing that. He also provided a detailed list of the materials that we needed for each room, so that it would be easy for us to get them. A couple of days before he came to do the tile, Wes also e-mailed to make sure that we had all the materials and to see if we had any questions. On the first day of installation, Wes and the other worker, Aaron, were right on time at 6:45 am. They helped us move the refrigerator and the stove out of the kitchen, even searching the house with us to figure out where to turn off the water to our icemaker. By the end of the day, Wes and Aaron had completed laying the cement board and the tiles in both the kitchen and the bathroom. At one point, Wes called to let me know that we were short of tiles for the kitchen. It turned out that the additional boxes of tiles were slightly larger, so Wes cut each tile down by 1/8 of an inch to make sure that they lined up perfectly. He also polished the edge of the tile so that it would not feel any different - the attention to detail was incredible! Wes also recut some of the tiles multiple times to make sure that they looked perfect in the floor. Finally, before leaving, Wes and Aaron helped put up cardboard at the entrances to the kitchen and bathroom to make sure that our dog would not get in the rooms. On the second day, Wes and Aaron came back to grout the tiles and to install the backsplash in our kitchen. While Wes was finishing the backsplash, Aaron cleaned all of the areas where they had been working. He even cleaned the sliding glass windows on the porch where they had been cutting tile to make sure that they were spotless. I think Wes and Aaron left our house cleaner than they found it! Wes thought the job might take three days, but he was able to complete it in two days by working almost twelve hour days on each of the days. The quote that he gave us for the work exactly matched what he charged us at the end. My husband and I were extremely impressed by the quality of the tile work and could not be happier with our new kitchen tile and backsplash, as well as, our new bathroom tile. The attention to detail, punctuality, and clear communication that is provided by Wes and S&W Tile is excellent. I would use them again for any tile work and would highly recommend them!

Wes was very responsive. He arrived as promised to assess my problem and returned as scheduled to do the work. I am very pleased with the quality of his work and thought his pricing was reasonable for the repair. I would recommend him highly and would not hesitate to call him again for any future tile work.

Wes O'conner was very responsive at first. He responded our call immediately, came by for an estimate, and the work was completed within a week. The problem with S&W is that everything has to be done on their terms, not the custormer's. After agreeing to the scope of the work (which was larger than his phone estimate) we gave him a deposit. However, when the special glass accent tiles did not arrive on time due to an error by the manufacturer, Wes then said he would have to complete the job immediately without the accent tiles, otherwise we would lose our deposit. I was dumbfounded. I never experience this kind of threat by any worker in my life. I was ready to eat the deposit then and there, rather than have this man in my house, but my wife talked me down. So we decided have him continue the job without any option for the color tiles. Wes arrives to install all the tiles in one day. He is supremely confident in his work. The problem was he did not consult me for solving deign detail problems in framing the tile around a window in the bathroom. Yes this is more complicated than a normal wall, but Wes decided he would just work very fast and avoid the complication of bringing me into the process. Even though I was in the house the entire day, Wes kept saying, "don't look now at the bathroom tile until later". Foolishly I trusted him to bring me in to the design of the framing of the tiles around the window without realizing he wouldn't leave any room for revision. By the time I saw the tile job, he was already packing up. Job done. Yes, the tile looked great, the wall was flat. But then I noticed he never completely enclosed the window with tile and the details of the tile design were not to my liking. I realized once again that he did not have the customer first in mind. Rather than have a second confrontation I just wanted to get him out of my home. I eventually finished the tile job around the window myself and have decided to live with the fact that, although the tile job looks technically very good, I will never forget that it could have been better had Wes really cared about my satisfaction with the project.

He was very thorough and professional.

He was very responsive, punctual and neat. The job came out fantastic. We had marble trim that was not easy to work with, but he did a great job mitering it around the room. Everything was lined up great with the laser level. He had good suggestions on what grout color to use and how to lay things out.
