S & W Tile

It went FANTASTICLY. It was just so easy--Wes gave us the information we needed to pick tile that would work well, gave advice on how not to spend a mint on the tile itself. He was clear about what options add cost to the job. He communicated well by email & phone before the job so everything was set when they arrived. When they were here, they were very clear about what decisions needed to be made, so we didn't feel rushed, but did feel like we were getting exactly what we wanted. And, best of all: they came, they did the job in the time they said, and then they were done, cleaned up well, and were even responsive to questions after we paid them. What can I say? Professional all the way. And now I have a shower that I know is NOT putting water into the structure of my house, NOT doing damage because it's perfectly waterproofed with the Kerdi system, and looks so much better than the old one!j Oh--and as a woman, since you sometimes run into people who don't treat you like you have a brain--absolutely no problems there, that's for sure. Fast, good, professional, clear communications, good product, good price, what more can anyone ask?

The job was fairly straight forward. We had already removed the old tile from the kitchen backsplash and installed new sheetrock. The countertop was not perfectly level and the cabinet height from the countertop varied. S&W Tile provided an estimate based on photos and information provided via email. Price was not the lowest or the highest. We selected them based on Angies reviews. An installation appointment was made quickly. On installation day, S&W Tile laid out the tile we had selected and gave us various options to address detailed issues. Once decisions were made, the 2 men installed and grouted the tile in a half day. It looks fabulous.

It was a big success. The guys are fantastic. Wes was very responsive during the entire process. I communicate a lot via e-mail and he always wrote back to all of my questions. On the first day of the project demo went great, but the niche insert I ordered was not going to fit between the studs. The guys worked with me to find a solution. It was a good partnership. I was able to run to home depot and pick up items that they could work with to build out a niche on the fly. They also kept the house and work space incredibly clean. Every day we came home and all their materials were put away and the bathroom and area around it was clean. This was especially important as we have a toddler who can and will get into everything. I would definitely hire them again. The only thing you need to consider is price. S & W is not cheap. They charge straightforward amounts but they are not the least expensive in town. They insist on using top notch construction products like high end grout, which is not a bad thing, and in the end you get what you pay for. The work they did in our bathroom is nearly perfect and we are overall very happy.

It went very smoothly considering it was a difficult project. The old shower had been built with a lot of tight structure but no waterproofing. Despite the unexpected amount of demolition they needed to do, they still managed to get the job done in a very timely manner. Here's what impressed me: They took pictures at every juncture and pointed out to my husband and I were all the problems had been, as they did the demolition. Then during the rebuilding process they showed how they were correcting those errors, and made sure to point out to us the waterproofing. To help keep our cost at a reasonable level they very creatively were able to salvage our stone bench and make good use of some decorative tile we had left over. I'm so glad it worked out and when we have some tiling needs come up again, they will be first on the list. Thanks, Wes and Steve

I have been doing a lot of renovations on my house and have had to call a lot of different workers to come by and give me quotes on different projects, Wes was the only one that answered my call right away and came out that same day to give me a quote. He was not able to do this because he had nothing going on, but because he has a great partner in Steve and great workers to be able to leave another job and come look at my kitchen floor. I was planning on doing the self leveling and tile myself, but realized it was definitely a job for professionals as the entire kitchen (250 square feet) needed self leveling and a lot of it......there was spots that were over an inch off. Wes talked me through the entire process when giving me the quote that same day and I immediately gave him the job. This is something I normally wouldn't do without getting other quotes/opinions but anyone that takes the time to come out the same day I called and was as thorough as Wes, deserves my business. We worked out a game plan to get the floor done around the other jobs he had going on and Wes followed through on all of it to a T, including coming to my house the Sunday before the self leveling was poured because my wife and I wouldn't be home the next day when it was done. After the self leveling was done the tiles went in quickly and looks amazing. I am beyond pleased with the work they did and will be using them again for my bathroom reno. Three words to describe S and W tile are thorough, accountable, and honest.

Excellent. The highest compliment we can pay is that I wish I had more tile work that needed to be done now or that Wes's and his team did not just specialize in tile! That is how great the expertise and service was. Counsel on selection of materials was great, including them going to the tile store with us to help us understand what kinds of materials would stand the test of time versus though that might be effective so we were able to make the best choice based on what would look great but would also last for the constructs of our particular bathroom.

I can't say enough great things about Wes and S & W Tile! Wes was extremely responsive and communicative from my first reach out. Whenever I had questions about the process, scheduling, purchasing materials, etc., Wes responded in a flash! They arrived promptly, were incredibly efficient, finished in less time then they estimated, even under budget! We had lots of cracking in the grout of the walls in one tub/shower, and a chunk of grout that had chipped away from the floor of another bathroom. My emails and phone calls to S & W Tile were met with prompt replies by Wes. He was very helpful with his explanations of what my options were for the best outcome. Wes did not do the repairs, but the gentleman who came to do the work was equally courteous and helpful. He gave me a through assessment of the condition of the walls, and helped me understand his concerns about some loose tiles. He seemed very competent. Indeed, the work looked first rate when he was finished. The shower walls looked like new again (though they are 50 years old). The other bathroom floor looked great, as well. Both areas were cleaned up very thoroughly, so all I had to do was return the towels and toiletries to the bathroom. Wes followed up with a phone call later the same day to make sure I was satisfied with the work, and to make sure I knew not to use the shower for 24 hours. I highly recommend S & W Tile for grout repair, and will certainly call them if we ever need this type of work again!

I contacted S&W tile by email about our backsplash, sent them photos and measurements and they gave a quote over email and we set up a date. Several times, I had questions about materials, etc. and Wes was very responsible by both phone and email. We had to reschedule once because our tile (which we purchased from a tile store) was delayed, but they were great about that. On the scheduled day, Wes and Steve arrived on time at 7am ready to work. We discussed the layout, they made some suggestions and we came up with a plan. Then they set to work. They worked hard, but asked when they had a question. There were a couple of tiles we wound up not liking (they're marble) and they swapped them out for better ones, which we really appreciated. When they were done, the job looked great! They are real craftsmen, and the quality of their work was outstanding. The tiles were installed and aligned well, they were flat and level, and they did a nice job at the edges, electrical outlets, etc. I was really impressed, and they finished by around 2:30 that day. The two drawbacks were price (they were higher than some others) and schedule -- they were booking several months out. But those were both small prices to pay for their skill. There are lots of people out there who say they do tile, and a lot of bad tile jobs. It was worth it to hire people who were skilled (and had the right materials and tools) to do a quality job -- especially in a place like a backsplash that's so noticeable. I would definitely hire them again if we have another tile job

Wes was extremely responsive from start to finish-communicated from start to finish. Extremely punctual, showed up early over the weekend to work us in so that we did not have to wait a terribly long time to complete the project. Yes, it was expensive, but you get what you pay for. Wes and Steve are masters of their craft. If they can install the tile we specified, they can install anything and make it look beautiful. My kitchen looks fabulous thanks to S&W Tile.

The shower looks beautiful but we do think they probably overpriced us a little bit. They did a fine job, it looks great, they cleaned up and the they were on time.

The install process went very well and we are very happy with the results. We sent email through Angie's list on 7/21. Wes responded to the email the same day. We schedule consultation on 7/24 with the understanding that if we did not buy the services that we would need to pay $75 per hour for the visit. We reviewed the areas that we wanted to tile during the meeting. Wes provided suggestion on the amount of material we would need to finish the work and suggestions on the grout that would be needed. The first opening to perform service was 9/3 and 9/4 with a quote of 1800 for the work. Plus the materials needed for the work (tile and grout). We paid a deposit of 600 to confirm the dates of 9/3 and 9/4. The recommendation was to purchase two boxes of 12x12 mosaic tile for the kitchen (40 sheets) and three boxes of the subway title (300 tiles) for the project. The cost of the product was $199.60 for the mosaic from Home Depot, $237 for the subway tile from Lowes, $26.22 for the bathroom tile trim, and $45 for the grout. Total material cost $507.82 On the day of the job, two guys came to perform the work (Wes and Steve). They were on time at 7:15 am. The job was scheduled for two days one person. The goal with both of them showing up on day one was to have them finish all the work in one day instead of over two. I purchased the wrong trim for the bathroom tile, so I had to make a quick trip to re-buy the 300 subway tile and 30 trim tiles since Lowes does not carry the Ice White Trim tile instock and no time for a special order to replace the 30 trim tiles. I switched to the instock classic white and trim. Total cost of the secondary tile purchase $195.71. My trip to the store delayed the start of the bathroom project by an hour which was not an issue as the guys finished the work by 2:30 pm. I?m very happy with the work they did. It looks great, they were fast, and easier than we expected. Since they finished the job early, they offered a discount from the initial $1800 price if I paid in cash. The cash discount reduced the total S&W price from 1800 to 1600. As far as material used, the kitchen required 25 12x12 mosaic out of the 40 sheets and bathroom required 150 out of the 300 subway tiles. I kept the receipts, so I have a trip to make to home depot and lowes this weekend to refund the money on the extra tile and refund on the special order tile that was not used because of the trim issue. Our out of pocket expenses for the whole project were $2303.53. I?m expecting a credit back from home depot and Lowes of $368.01 for a total cost of ownership of $1935.52

I recently bought a townhouse in Newton. The house had a nice size marble stand alone shower that needed grout and tile repair on the shower floor. I called Wes and sent him some photos of the floor. He suggested waterproofing over the existing floor and retile over that. I did not completely understand the process but Wes came over and showed me what he was going to do step by step. This is what I appreciated most about Wes and S&W is that everything was explained to me. Also, during the project Wes showed me what he was doing which I appreciated too. Once completed the shower floor looks great! Wes also put fresh bead of caulking on the sides so the whole shower felt and looked brand new. In addition to looking great I felt secure knowing the floor and shower was completely water proof. I recommend S&W without any hesitation and I am going to call them when I re do the guest and half bath in the next few months.

S&W did a fantastic job tiling uneven walls and floor. Wes is incredibly professional and spent a lot of time consulting and educating us on the process. He made several trips to the site and answered every email promptly. His recommendations were spot on and in the end it turned out better than we imagined.

Wes is the perfect person you want to work with when having any tile installation done. He is responsive, honest, and takes the time to go over everything you need to know and do before arriving. Not only that, but he goes over all potential scenarios with you so that nothing takes you by surprise. When it was finally time for him to go to work, I was completely comfortable with the process. S&W may or may not be a little bit more expensive than other tile installers but you will never have to worry about him ripping you off or ignoring you. That, to me, proved to be invaluable. Before even getting to the work he did, I was already impressed by him as a person in the way he conducted business. The work he and his partner did was the cherry on the top. They worked efficiently and produced a pristine product. They completed the work in 1.5 days, laying down 80 square feet of 3x6 wall tile (with water-proofing behind it) and 50 square feet of 3x3 hexagon tile. They had the demolition crew and plumber ready and organized to complete the work in a timely manner. Living in a brownstone in the south end, the floors are a bit crooked and the angles of the room not exactly 90 degrees. Wes showed pictures of how he dealt with those issues and made sure that they were properly addressed. All in all, I was very pleased and would absolutely hire and recommend S&W tile again.

I hired S&W when our tub walls, which was only constructed seven years ago, began to fail. It was obvious that the original contractors did not use any waterproofing at that time. Wes and Steve came and demolished the tub walls and found significant water damage, which they were adept at dealing with. They reconstructed the drywall, dealt with a tricky window in the tub area, and laid down a waterproof barrier before laying down new tile. Also, the work required some plumbing work which Wes was able to coordinate with Ryan Plumbing in a seamless fashion. Throughout the construction process, they were respectful of our home and diligently cleaned up their mess completely at the end of each day. The whole process only took under three days. Overall I found the pricing to be reasonable, and about what I expected for the whole job that they performed. If I ever need tile work again in the future, I will definitely hire them again.

Both Steve and Wes were great. They were professional, always on time and a pleasure to be around. I felt very comfortable both being in the house with them and leaving them alone at my house. The work was stellar and the price point was well within other quotes. We are looking forward to using them again for our next project.

It's been more than 6 months since Wes came and installed a subway tile backsplash in my kitchen. So often I am admiring his work, and finally I'm sitting down to write the review. He very much deserves a review ... deserved it way back. Wes's work is excellent and I recommend him wholeheartedly. I am a new homeowner without ANY experience with having tiling done, and every step of the way Wes was supportive and transparent. There was a fair bit of coordination that needed to happen -- with a plasterer as well as an electrician. He helped me connect with both contractors and made the schedule work. He and his team were fast, professional, polite. And above all, I want to praise the work done. The backsplash was installed perfectly ... my kitchen looks gorgeous! Thank you, Wes!

They are not cheap but I believe they are fair for the high quality you are getting. They are thorough, and no headaches afterwards.

I need to install bathroom tiles and asked for an estimate. However, they will charge $75 for an in-home estimate which will be put back or waived if I choose them to perform the work. This was first time that I was asked to pay for the in-home estimates for the tile installation.

I had a very positive experience with Wes and Steve. Wes was the initial point of contact. He was very responsive to all my questions and very thorough in his explanation of the services that would be provided. Steve actually did the work. He did a very good job and did not leave any mess when he was done. They are not cheap but the quality of their work is commensurate with their prices. These guys are both very professional and I would have no reservation recommending them to anyone.

My experience with S&W was positive throughout the entire process. They (Wes) responded immediately to my Angie's list post and scheduled a meeting at the property within a few days. Wes was very informative and professional during the initial visit. He explained their approach and the advantages of the Schulter system. He also gave me a firm quote while he was there. He explained exactly what was needed to prep the space and the materials that i needed to procure. He documented all of it in a simple quote. I gave him a deposit while he was there and he booked a date for the work less than a month from our meeting. While I was doing the prep, I had a few questions and Wes responded immediately to all of my questions. They came through and started work on the date that was committed. The room was in an old building with a lot of issues. I did my best as a DIY to prep the space, but it wasn't perfect. The floor and walls were not perfectly level and square which creates a lot of challenges for the tile. Wes and Steve (his tiler) spent a lot of time looking at how they could produce a quality result with such a challenging room. Ultimately, they gave me the opportunity to decide whether to hold off and try to improve the prep or go with a best effort on their part with possible sub optimal results. I decide to let them do their best and they did not disappoint. Steve worked his magic to produce an absolute masterpiece in my bathroom. He not only overcame some of the challenges with the room structure, he produced a beautiful result. I would recommend these guys for two reasons: (1) Wes is a responsive and respectful businessman with the only goal of satisfying his customers and, (2) Steve is an artist who is driven to ensure a quality result. As they demonstrated on my project, that are committed to a quality result and were willing to lose time to give me the opportunity to improve the room prep.

Wes answered my email right away, while on vacation no less, and was able to provide an accurate quote based on a few pictures and a brief discussion. He completed the job less than a week later and it looks fantastic. He was on time, professional, courteous and overall just a nice guy. Wes does meticulous work.
