Wes and Jessie were extremely professional, punctual, responsive, and respectful of our time and space. They were also very efficient and made sure that we knew what was going on at each step of the process. We really appreciated that Wes explained a number of options at various points and even directed us towards the less expensive options. Overall, the shower looks great. Wes and Jessie are really easy to work with and we'd definitely use them again.

S&W tile did a great job. The best thing I did was to consult with Wes when we decided it was time to renovate and replace the original tub. I had lots of ideas of what I wanted and wasn?t sure if we needed to gut the entire bathroom or just the section with the tub. Wes promptly returned my call and we set up in-house consultation so he could see the shape of the existing bathroom and hear what I was looking to have done. Wes brings lots of experience to consultation. Issues and problems previous customers faced in similar renovations, ideas that need to be considered before starting and the pros and cons of different tiles for wall and floor applications. I even had a first for Wes ? I installed a heated mirror for shaving in the shower. As Wes did the tile work, he was a valuable resource for providing contacts/references for the other work required for the renovation. After consulting with Wes, we decided not to renovate the entire bathroom. We kept the original 1930?s black and white bathroom since it was in great shape and replaced just the tub and its surrounding walls. We had a lengthy discussion on the best way to transition from the old bathroom tile to the new shower. We went with Wes?s recommendation to keep white subway tile in the shower area and using large pieces of tile to frame the outside of the shower area for the transition. What I like about Wes was he won?t tell you what you want to hear, but will tell you the honest facts of what works and doesn?t work for various tiles and materials you are considering. Based on Wes? prior experience, he pointed out some shortfalls and potential problems down the road we could have with the material we were originally considering for the shower floor. Based on his information, we switched to another material and ended up with finding something that was the highlight of the new shower. Since I am handy and wanted to perform the demolition and new framing myself, Wes put me in touch with an excellent plumber who removed the tub and moved the plumbing to a new location suited for a walk-in shower. I was in constant communication with Wes since I was doing a lot of the work myself and he had me on his schedule. S&W tile was on site for four days for their part of the project. Wes and his brother were professional, left the job site spotless at the end of the day and worked closely with me on every stage of the job. He took the time to show me what he was doing and made sure I was completely satisfied with the placement of the niches, tiles and trim as the project moved along. It was a rewarding experience working with S&W Tile and they did a fantastic job ? they more than met our expectations. The best thing I did was to make my first call to S&W Tile. Once again, I can?t recommend enough a consultation with S&W tile before you hire your contractor.
Description of Work: Replaced the original 1930’s built-in tub with a walk in shower. Total project cost was approximately $18,000 which includes the plumber, plumbing fixtures and installation of custom built glass shower door. Work performed by S&W tile was $11,000 and included: installation using the Schluter Kerdi Board System attached to the framing studs and installation of ceiling, wall and floor tiles. Additional tile upgrades I requested (and are reflected in the S&W total cost) include a tiled ceiling in the shower and the addition of three built-in niches, as well as tiling the outside walls of the shower with large ceramic tile sheets to create a frame around the shower.

I had S&W Tile tear out and replace the old drywall & tile in my shower to fix a leak caused by a different company's improper installation technique. The owner, Wes, was extremely professional and upfront about cost & timeline, and did everything exactly as he said he would. I had a tight deadline to get the project done since new tenants would be moving in right after he finished, and he completed the work in the amount of time that he said he would. I would highly recommend Wes if you’re looking to do any kind of tiling projects!

Let me start by stating that to say that finding quality handymen has been a disaster to say the least. I searched Angie's list and sat on S and W Tile for a pit thinking that referrals would be best. Well they weren't. After a hired contractor did a half job on my bathroom I contact Wes. Although my bathroom seemed fined and looked gorgeous by sight, the workmanship, the detail and correct product was not used and what was used incorrectly was actually damaging by brand new shower. Wes returned my call immediately. Confirmed his appointment. Should up on time and best of all was reasonably priced. Not only did he fix the work but he matched the aesthetics of my current bathroom and now you cannot tell that he patched worked the incorrect work. Do not sit on selecting S and W Tile for your tile work like i did. Get it done right, and get it done right the FIRST time. You will save some money. Feel free to ask Wes for my contact information if you would like to ask me any questions. I recommend him without reservations. Otto Back Bay, MA

Contacted this company through their website about a large tile work (around 1000 sf) Wes O'Connor promptly replied that he would need some questions answered including photos, layout, etc. They said in the email: "We will be more than happy to spend the time going over all of your questions and providing you a written estimate on the spot." He also included that they charge $75 per hour for anything outside Waltham. I live 25 minutes from them. I wasted my time in creating a computer generated layout of the area with precise dimensions, answered all the question that a competent tile person could need. I also pointed that I don't pay for a job estimate that it is worth thousands of dollars. I have never received a reply from them.

We hired S&W Tile to install our kitchen back splash for our kitchen remodel. After reviewing different providers on Angie's List, we contacted S&W for an estimate based on the strength of the reviews. From the first contact, Wes was very responsive, thorough and courteous in his messages. I sent him photos of the kitchen as well as of the tile we had selected, and he quickly provided an estimate. As we thought the quote was very fair, we booked the installation date soon thereafter. A day or two before the installation, Wes contacted me to inform me that he had a family funeral that might impact the job. I was a little worried that the installation would have to be rescheduled, but that was not the case. We had a conversation to sketch out a plan in case the job could not be finished in a day, and he and Jessie arrived bright and early the next morning to get started. I very much appreciated Wes's effort to proactively communicate in this situation. The job went very well thanks to Wes and Jessie's hard work and flexibility. We realized soon after they got started that a fair number of tiles were irregular and darker than the rest, and in addition, it was unclear whether there would be a sufficient number of tiles to finish the job. Wes and Jessie worked creatively to salvage any tiles possible, and also were very open to me hovering nearby to see how the tile job was progressing. Both gentlemen did their best to make sure that I was happy, even changing tiles that already had been placed to different tiles if I requested. This was a labor intensive job due to the tile we had selected, but Wes and Jessie could not have been more pleasant to work with. After the tiles were placed, Jessie did a careful clean up job in my kitchen, and Wes returned that evening to seal and grout the tile. Although we had originally planned for Wes to return the next morning, Wes offered to return the same night so that the funeral he was attending the next morning would not delay completion of our project. We have found quite a few excellent contractors on Angie's List, but this level of customer service was extraordinary. The finished back splash looks wonderful. The price we paid was exactly in the range Wes had quoted, and the job was finished as scheduled. I would definitely hire them again for another tile job and would recommend them to others.

Wes O'Connor was a pleasure to talk to. I sent him pics of my bathroom shower thru email and he got back to me with the next few hours. I explained what type of work I needed and he was upfront and honest in telling me that this was a small job and not worth my money to pay their fees to have done. He gave me a name of someone else that would be able to help me out and answered a few other questions that I needed help with.. I would definately keep this company in mind for future jobs. Thanks Wes!!

Wes was great to work with and really cared about the job even though it was very small in terms of square footage. I had no idea what I was doing and he walked me through the whole process so I understood exactly what he was doing to ensure I'd be happy with the outcome. At one point he even got on the phone with my dad (who has experience in re-modeling) to make sure I was making the right decisions. We ran into small problems all along the way that made me want to give up, but his confidence and problem-solving kept me going and now I am extremely happy with the results! Not to mention I live on the top floor of a fourth floor walk-up and his team was more than happy to help carry up the tile because it was way too heavy for me to do on my own! I would recommend his team to anyone and everyone, and it was a pleasure working with him!

Things always go well with Wes and his team. No surprises, quality work. And the price he quotes you is what you pay. He's a great guy with a great company (who does awesome work). In fact, we were looking for a plasterer as part of the repairs to the house. Even Wes' suggestion for the plasterer was top notch.

Despite yet more snow on the ground and traffic, Wes arrived right on time and even helped to shovel my driveway! He prepped carefully, worked with great efficiency and skill, and left my kitchen cleaner than when he found it! The backsplash looks great. I have never done a remodel before, and I so appreciated his patience with my questions, professionalism and straightforward communication. Very satisfied!
Description of Work: I was in the middle of a kitchen remodel when the person who was going to put in the backsplash left town unexpectedly. I contacted Wes in the hopes that he might do the work within the tight window I had previously planned so that we could move forward on schedule. He responded right away, discussed the work on the phone, answered all my questions and came to the house to examine the walls. His estimate was very fair, and he described what he would do thoroughly and carefully. He took the extra time to help me measure the area and advised me on both what materials to order and where to get them.

While 'window shopping' earlier in the fall, I fell in love with a mosaic tile for my back splash that was composed of ceramic, marble, glass and stainless steel. I purchased the tile thinking that I would install it myself but weeks went by and I procrastinated, in part because I was afraid of cutting materials of different hardness on one sheet. When November came around, I realized I wanted the back splash installed before Thanksgiving and that I needed to hire it out. As S & W had done work for me before, I reached out to Wes for schedule and price. He was able to fit me in before the holiday which was perfect. Steve arrived right on time at 7 a.m., we discussed design options and then he went straight to work. He took steps to protect my flooring, counter-top and sink as he worked and was sweet and understanding of my dog who was eager to help :) Wes worked quickly and the workmanship was super. As before, I was pleased with the custom touches such as a line of vertical tiles to finish off the edges and with the professionalism. S&W tile remains my first choice for tile work!

It went great but it's been months between the actual work and the review. Please don't let that throw you off! We had our first child and communication (and being tired) sort of caused us to lose track of this. The price is a guess, as it's been that long. We had the bathroom completely retiled a few years before via another contractor but we were finally replacing the tub and needed to retile the missing pieces right above that. S & W came in and identified a larger problem for us, which was that the backing used by the previous contractor was wrong for a shower/tub. They tore it all down and made it right. It ended up being more expensive than we originally thought - a few tiles versus a whole wall - but we were glad it was taken care of. Again, sorry that this is so late. It was on our end, not due to anything on S & W's end. They're good guys to work with!

I had a flood in my basement in December 2014 due to heavy rainfall. After pulling up the rug in the basement, we discovered asbestos tile under it. Originally to save money, I wanted to tile over the asbestos but after consulting with Wes from S & W and other vendors, it was clear that this wasn't going to be an option since the asbestos tile was in rough shape and would likely cause any tile installed on top of it to shift or move (before installation I had a professional asbestos abatement company remove the tile). Wes came to my home and did an initial consult for a fee which was deducted from the final cost. He spent a good hour or so explaining all our options and what would be best for our situation. Our floor in the basement is not level by any means and Wes recommended that we flash portions of the floor before installation This process allows the tile the to lay down flatter on the surface. We arranged a date for installation and Wes and Steve arrived promptly for the job. It took about two days for installation which is what Wes estimated. We encountered a problem when the tile was initially installed. In order to save money, we bought the tile ourselves from Home Depot. We didn't need anything fancy since it was the basement. We bought fourteen boxes of tile. It turned out that half the boxes had a different lot number which meant that they were made in a different facility. Different lot numbers can mean different dimensions and that was what we had. If I remember correctly, one lot number was off by 1/16 of an inch. That may not seem like a lot but 1/16 difference adds up pretty quickly when you are laying many of them down in a row. Wes immediately notified me and gave me options. After consulting with him, the best time and cost effective option was to move forward and lay the tiles from the center out where the difference in dimension could be minimized. In actuality, you can barely tell that the tiles are two different sizes unless you're looking for it. Lesson learned: make sure all your boxes of tile are from the same lot number. I also want to mention that Wes went out of his way to look for matching lot numbers at other Home Depots. He didn't have to do that. The floor was also finished within the estimated time frame which was important to me. Overall the floor is beautiful and is the foundation of my boyfriend's man cave.

Wes and Steve were great. Showed up right at 7am every day and finished all work within 3.5 days. Made sure to clean up at the end of every day. We had grey grout with white subway tiles which can make imperfections in layout stand out. The finished work and overall quality were great. I have noted the price was a bit higher but I would have to say well worth the quality and hassle free work.

Wes was very prompt and professional in his follow up to my inquiry. He spoke with us over the phone to give an estimate and then came by to provide a more thorough quote and inspection of the job. He was courteous and showed up right when he said he would. He gave us a complete quote and walked us through the whole process. The job took two days and went right according to plan. Both Wes and Steve were very professional and did an excellent job. We were very pleased. On a more personal note, we were home with a sick toddler when they were there and they were so cautious about making too much noise and being sweet with the little guy. Def above and beyond the call. We would use them again and recommend them highly.

I sent Wes a picture of our job and we discussed the work over the phone and then in person. We agreed on a price and a date and both of those were met. Wes did a nice job of talking to us about possible levels of difficulty relating to our job. Fortunately, the best case scenario did happen with this job! Everything went smoothly. Wes also gave us some guidance about a tile corner shower shelf that had come off. Words to describe S & W: efficient, professional, knowledgeable, caring, communicative, and timely. Thank you Steve and Wes!

Our interaction started several weeks before the job date. Wes and I communicated quickly and efficiently via email, discussing the scope of work, the tile we were interested in using, and the range of costs. He explained that the client provides all of the materials, including tile, grout, caulking, and sealer, and gave specific recommendations of what products to buy. Even when there was a change in design, he explained why there may be increased costs, and worked together with us to find a good design. The job was performed flawlessly. Wes and Steve arrived at 7 as they said they would. After discussing some final details, the job was done in just 4 hours, right in the 4 to 8 hour window they said it would take. The price was very reasonable, and they left things cleaner than they found them.

Considering the underlying issues that were found during demolition, everything went remarkably well! First, as noted elsewhere, Wes does charge $75 for a rough estimate. However, it was well worth it. Not only did he show up exactly on-time for the estimate, he spent a good hour or so going through many of the details with me. He told me upfront that there were likely more significant issues going on behind the wall -- and, boy, was he correct. At the time, he recommended that we replace the entire shower, estimated at around $10,000 plus tile. Several months later, I decided to formally enlist S&W Tile's services. Wes again visited us conveniently on a Saturday to walk through the job in even more detail. We spent almost two hours planning out the job and refining logistics. He suggested I plan ahead and buy new seals for all the plumbing fixtures and shower doors, which turned out to be a very good idea given their lead time. He then gave me a firm date of when he would start (approximately four weeks later) and estimated that the job would take four-to-five days. At this point we made a down payment of $3,000. Sure enough, a week and a half before the job was to begin, Wes contacted me to let me know that he had a cancellation and could start the job a week early, if it was convenient to us. We agreed, and Wes arrived on time the following Monday morning to begin. With his prior guidance, we had the area thoroughly prepped for his work. On Monday afternoon, Wes called to give me a status update and sent me videos of some of the demolition progressed. As alluded to earlier, he found significant problems. Within five years of the initial installation, the structure of the shower seat had completely rotted away. Furthermore, the copper drain pan that we had installed (which we thought was a good idea) had been installed incorrectly, preventing water from draining. When Wes got to the pan, he found about four inches of stagnant standing water in the pan. The level of rot found and some added difficulty in saving the existing granite bench resulted in a relatively small change order of $1500. As the week pressed on, things went a little smoother. On Day Two, we had to purchase some additional tile, but Wes was kind enough to pick it up for us. We also had to coordinate debris removal separately, which S&W Tile did not provide but assisted with. Throughout the week of their work, I came home to a very clean and organized job site. Tools were neatly put away, drop clothes were removed, and all the areas were swept clean. Very high marks for cleanliness! All in all, we are quite happy with the process, the workmanship, and the results.
Description of Work: S&W Tile demolished and replaced a shower that we had installed back in 2009 that was installed incorrectly. They replaced rotten framing, installed a Schluter shower system with Kerdi board, marble tile flooring, and subway tile surround.

Wes and his team completed gutted the shower down to the studs, added waterproofing and re-tiled the shower and part of an adjoining wall. The job was complicated as we have subway tile halfway up the remaining three walls in the bathroom, and they had to calculate the best way to integrate the new tile for the shower into the existing wall tile which didn't need to be replaced. Wes was upfront about potential complications on the job (such as not knowing what they'd find behind the leaking tiles until the demo was underway), but everything went very smoothly. His team was exceptionally professional and hard-working, and thoroughly cleaned up the work area at the end of each day. Given how well the project went, we're kicking ourselves for having put it off for so many years!

Wes provided a very complete quote, with upper and lower bounds depending on what the demo revealed behind the shower tile. We made sure we knew what we needed to order in the way of materials. One thing that really makes S &W stand out is that they accept only 1/3 of the estimate up front and the rest upon completion. They are also precise in terms of when they will be on the job - they show up when they say they will and leave when the day's work is done (in these tiling cases, often when something must "set", as in a liquid waterproofing membrane). The result is splendid work completed in two days. We were left with instructions in the care of the tile and advised to wait two days before using the shower. Our bathroom looks much better than before, and the kitchen is transformed. Their care and expertise was demonstrated in how they minimized flaws in how the kitchen counter was cut (a gap at the edge was filled in a way that makes it much harder to detect than before). They made sure to remove debris in a manner such that some fussy neighbors were left with no grounds for complaint.
Description of Work: Wes, Stephen and Nano installed a backsplash and replaced the tile in a bath/shower. Wes also helped coordinate the related work of a plumber.

It went incredibly well. Wes O'Connor was available 24/7 during the planning and execution of the project. His helper, Steve was also terrific. The work they did was perfect, they took pride in doing an exceptional job with the highest standards possible. I would not hesitate to use them again.
