Interstate agent for Atlas Van Lines. We own and operate all of our own vehicles and use our own employees. We do not use rental trucks or subcontractors.
First, I researched companies on Angies List and chose the top providers. Then I heard that a discount is available through AAA, so I got the two companies referred by AAA. My research told me that I wanted a BINDING quote, since so many of the complaints are that the truck shows up to unload the person's belongings, but that it cost thousands more than the original estimate. (Note: AAA's discount applies to the insurance. Instead of the basic, which pays $0.60 per lb, they give full coverage with no deductible). I also got companies referred by the National Moving Association. I got bids from about 8 companies. Wm Duggan was the next to the lowest bid, it was one of just two that gave binding bids, it had the AAA coverage. When I searched online, I could find NO negative reviews. Two guys arrived as scheduled to pack the house and they did a phenomenal job. They were efficient, polite, and personable. Throughout the day they kept in touch with the office and the office kept in touch with me. The next day the truck arrived. One guy from the day before was there, a different guy, and the driver, Jim. Clearly, the driver call the shots. They did the job carefully and quickly. Now, the horror story I have read in reviews is that once the stuff leaves, they never hear from anyone again, and that frequently their things don't arrive for 3 weeks. Not this time. Jim took my number and gave me his. He told me he expected to be in Atlanta the following weekend but he would let me know, He knew that there were 2 days when I would not be available and that I really wanted my things delivered the following Monday (a week later). Jim called me the following Friday to tell me they were in Atlanta. He called me again over the weekend to confirm the time they would be at my house. When I arrived at the house 45 minutes before they were to arrive, they were already there setting up the truck. Jim had two other guys with him, both polite and hard-working. They taped folded boxes to the carpet throughout the house so they didn't walk on the carpet. They unloaded the truck, putting everything in the rooms I had designated. They set up my bed and uncrated those things that had been crated (tv, etc). To summarize, they did everything PERFECTLY. Brian, the sales rep was helpful and great. Joan in the office was a big help too. The guys packing and unloading worked non-stop. But the driver Jim (whose last name I can't read) was simply phenomenal! He made a stressful event a piece of cake. And from what Jim tells me, that is all due to Billy Duggan, the owner of the company. Thanks, Billy!
Description of Work: They packed up everything in my Warwick, RI house the first day. The second day, they loaded everything on the truck and took off for Atlanta.
